  1. Vaaheguroo Jee Ka Khalsaa Vaaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh! I think filmy tunes are more of an issue for people who actually listen or used to listen to songs and watch bollywood movies. Then if someone does a shabad on those tunes those people might remember the film or song associated with the tune. I myself never listen to these songs or watch those films so it doesn't affect me. I recently attended a Gurmat Sangeet Workshop by Bhai Kultar Singh ji and one thing he talked about was how the tune of a shabad shouldn't be distracting from the actual Gurbanee. Thats the issue with a lot of these tunes. The Shabad should always be above the sangeet. Thinking positively, I've recently noticed an increase in keertanis singing in raags at akhand kirtan smagams. Perhaps its because they're tired of people who think akj singhs don't know raags. Its also great to see more youth taking interest in tanti saaj. I'm also trying to learn raags and I can say it feels great when you sing a shabad in the actual raag it was composed in. =)
  2. Vaaheguroo Jee Kaa Khalsaa Vaaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh! Daas was watching this video ( ) regarding RSS propaganda. The singh lecturing knows his stuff very well, and while talking he mentioned this saakhi. I was really inspired hearing about Sikhs of the past, and then ashamed of what we have become today, so I decided to type it out and share with the sangat. When Hari Singh Nalua had taken over a certain place (couldn't make it out), the pathans of the area fled to hide in the caves of the mountains, out of fear. A 19 year old Pathan girl, named Bano, who was hiding in a little cave, asked someone, " Who are these people who have taken over our place?" The person answered, "These are the Sikhs, who believe in Guru Nanak." She said, "I want to see who their general is." He told her, " Ok, but you can't see him. I'll tell you his name, we call him 'Haria'. But you shouldn't see him, he is a man from a different people, you don't how he will treat you, or how he will behave toward you." She said, " No, I definately want to see the General of the Sikhs." This 19 year old daughter of the pathans, freed herself and ran to the place where Hari Singh Nalua had his control set up. She went inside, where the General of the Sikhs was sitting, doing Nitnem. When Hari Singh Nalua finished Nitnem, he opened his eyes and saw the pathan girl standing in front of him. He asked her, " Beta, for what reason have you come here?" She said, "I'll tell you why later, but first I want to know who you are.." He replied, "We are the Sikhs, who believe in Guru Nanak." Then she asked, "If you are the Sikhs, who believe in Guru Nanak, then why have you taken over our house?" He replied, " Beta, we didn't take over anyones house, rather we are protecting our own house." History is witness to this fact, that this area (shown in the video) is the gateway through which all attacks on India have been made. The wall couldn't protect it, but when Hari Singh Nalua raised the Nishan Sahib at that place, there has never been an attack on Hindustan through that route since. The girl then said to him, " O General of the Sikhs! I wish that the son born out of my womb is like you." Hari Singh Nalua replied, " Beta, pray to God about the son you want. However he is, let him be good, of good character." She said again, " O General of the Sikhs! You don't understand. I want your son to be born out of my womb." Bhai Sahib then said, " O daughter of Pathans! get out of my sight!" On her way out, as she neared the doorway, the daughter of pathans looked back, with tears in her eyes, saying " I heard that no one ever leaves Guru Nanaks house empty handed, but today a daughter of the pathans is leaving form the General of the Sikhs with nothing." At that time, Hari Singh Nalua called her, and said, "Listen to me, beta. " He took a shawl from close by and put it over her, and with his hand on her shoulder, said, " Didn't you want the son born from your womb to be a General like Hari Singh Nalua? Well from today onwards, Hari Singh Nalua is your son." History is witness to this, that Hari Singh Nalua lived the rest of his life calling that 19 year old girl Mata ji. This was the high character of Sikhs. Piaar Naal Akho, Satnaaaam Sri Vaahegurooo!
  3. Vaheguroo Jee Kaa Khalsaa Vaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh! I think the Q&A is a good idea. I mean it could have questions commonly asked of sikhs, and then ways to answer them. i.e. "Why do you keep your hair?" This could provide information on basic beliefs of sikhi and how to explain it to others in brief. You can PM me and I'd be glad to help with that. May Guru Jee bless you success in this seva!
  4. Vaaheguroo Jee Kaa Khalsaaa Vaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh! Ha! I'm not even going to try...
  5. Vaaheguroo Jee Kaa Khalsaa Waheguru Jee Kee Fateh! Umm.. is it implying that Sikh Rulers had concubines?!
  6. Vaaheguroo Jee Kaa Khalsaa Vaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh! Hmm.. sounds like an interesting idea.. I don't know but you can try contacting Vismaad.. http://www.vismaad.com/ I know there are some singhs who work there, they are the ones who made the SSahibzadey and Banda Singh Bahadur animated films.
  7. Vaaheguroo Jee Kaa Khalsaa Vaaheguroo Jee Kee Fatehh! There's some pretty interesting stuff there.. I look forward to seeing more!
  8. Vaaheguroo Jee Kaa Khalsaa Vaaheguroo Jee Kee Fatehh! Wow! Thats a lot of content. Great Job, keep it up! Everyone should be happy to make this payment
  9. Hahahahaha.. you guys.. :T: Aww that was my line! You took it! Oh well, I'll say it again.. DHAN DHAN GUROO ARJUN DEV JI MAHARAJ!! sadh jeevan arajun amol aajonee sa(n)bho || O Guru Arjun, You are Eternal, Invaluable, Unborn, Self-existent, bhay bha(n)jan par dhukh nivaar apaar ana(n)bho || the Destroyer of fear, the Dispeller of pain, Infinite and Fearless. ageh gehan bhram bhraa(n)th dhehan seethal sukh dhaatho || You have grasped the Ungraspable, and burnt away doubt and skepticism. You bestow cooling and soothing peace. aasa(n)bho oudhaviao purakh pooran bidhhaatho || The Self-existent, Perfect Primal Lord God Creator has taken birth. naanak aadh a(n)gadh amar sathigur sabadh samaaeiao || First, Guru Nanak, then Guru Angad and Guru Amar Daas, the True Guru, have been absorbed into the Word of the Shabad. dhhan dhha(n)n guroo raamadhaas gur jin paaras paras milaaeiao ||5|| Blessed, blessed is Guru Raam Daas, the Philosopher's Stone, who transformed Guru Arjun unto Himself. ||5||
  10. Vaaheguroo Jee Kaa Khalsaa Vaaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh! Hardeep Singh Jee and the rest of the users have all brought up valid points. Now that Singhs are standing together, ready to move forward, this momentum needs to be used positively. Instead of numerous innocent people getting pointlessly killed, there needs to be an organized movement. All that we need is 2 Singhs to go in and finish the job. Hopefully they are trying to do something like that. Daas believes that the biggest fallback at this time, is the lack of a leader. A leader for people to follow! Akal Takht is pretty much filled with Badal's men, so no one from there is going to do it. Someone strong needs to stand up, and organize the masses, give them a direction so that something can be accomplished, instead of wild skirmishes everywhere. The leader could implement stuff like this. The problem is, us sitting here discussing strategies on an online forum isn't going to get us anywhere... So, daas has a humble benti to everyone, as G.I JATT jee said, Everyone do Chaopai Sahib Paath. We might as well do the least we can, from where we are. Do ardaas for chardikalaa of the panth. I think we should make a rule, that every person must complete a paath of chaopai sahib before posting a reply. We'll just have to trust eachother..
  11. Vaaheguroo Kee Kaa Khalsaa Vaaheguroo Jee Kee Fatehh! Namstang Jee, I hope you're not talking about anyone in this thread? I don't believe any of the posts here reflected the attitude you're talking about. I agree some people act in an incorrect manner, which is not the right way for sikhs. But I don't think anyone here is saying "blood for blood" or wanting to be police.. I didn't see any hot headed quotes, any hate, or anything. Maybe you should post that where its more relevant. People are just saying the movie was cool. You know a lot of people enjoy action videos. The comparison that the thread starter made is perfectly fine. It makes sense, and its just talking about history. Guru Sahib Jee did fight battles, even if they were for self defense. Bhai Bachittar Singh Jee did this heroic act to save others. Yes, Sikhs and Spartans are far apart, and they don't have many ideals in common. I concur with you there. Hopefully the hotheaded sikh youth online will realize their misunderstandings. The Glory of Shaheedi should still be recognized though. Our beloved Shaheeds did a lot for the panth, and their kurbanee should be recognized. I haven't seen the movie yet, so I don't know if it portrays our values in the same way. Just some thoughts.. No offense to anybody.. Vaaheguroo Kee Kaa Khalsaa Vaaheguroo Jee Kee Fatehh!
  12. Vaaheguroo Jee Kaa Khalsaa Vaaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh! Although daas believes there is nothing wrong with doing paath from the computer, there is definately a difference. I think when you have access to parkashman saroop of Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee Maharaaj, you should do sehaaj paath from there. Perhaps one should only resort to doing it online when you are at work, or you choose to read bani in spare time. But when doing sehaj paath, try your best to do it from physical saroop. There are many potential issues with using the internet. People can get easily distracted whilst on the computer, and start doing other things. You would also need to think about washing hands, not wearing shoes/socks, and so on, although the keyboard and mouse aren't exactly clean, and your not actually touching the angs. You don't want to be sitting on a chair either, so then you would have to sit on the floor with a laptop.. but then the laptop is also on the floor, and you're reading gurbani from it. So would you put a rumala under it? Haha.. If you're sure you won't get distracted and positive that you can stay focused on the paath and ignore other stuff, and find a way get around the above mentioned issues, go right ahead. Its up to you if you feel satisfied with doing paath online. Daas would advise that you try to use actual parkash of Guru Jee when you can, and only resort to the internet when need be. I'm not saying theres anything wrong with it, but maybe its not the best for sehaj/anand paath. But if one is sitting at the computer anyways, what better than to read bani, and get darshan of your Guru as much as possible. But Daas doesn't know anything, just think about what I said, and make your own decision. Vaaheguroo Jee Kaa Khalsaa Vaaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!
  13. Vaaheguroo Jee Kaa Khalsaa Vaaheguroo Jee Kee Fatehh! Or you can choose to look at yourself and try to do the more important things first, like amritvela, seva, and simran, before quarreling over controversial issues. Now if you're already at this avastha, you probably know whats right and whats not. Fourth Mehla: gur sathigur kaa jo sikh akhaaeae s bhalakae out(h) har naam dhhiaavai || One who calls himself a Sikh of the Guru, the True Guru, shall rise in the early morning hours and meditate on the Lord's Name. oudham karae bhalakae parabhaathee eisanaan karae a(n)mrith sar naavai || Upon arising early in the morning, he is to bathe, and cleanse himself in the pool of nectar. oupadhaes guroo har har jap jaapai sabh kilavikh paap dhokh lehi jaavai || Following the Instructions of the Guru, he is to chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. All sins, misdeeds and negativity shall be erased. fir charrai dhivas gurabaanee gaavai behadhiaa out(h)adhiaa har naam dhhiaavai || Then, at the rising of the sun, he is to sing Gurbani; whether sitting down or standing up, he is to meditate on the Lord's Name. jo saas giraas dhhiaaeae maeraa har har so gurasikh guroo man bhaavai || One who meditates on my Lord, Har, Har, with every breath and every morsel of food - that GurSikh becomes pleasing to the Guru's Mind. jis no dhaeiaal hovai maeraa suaamee this gurasikh guroo oupadhaes sunaavai || That person, unto whom my Lord and Master is kind and compassionate - upon that GurSikh, the Guru's Teachings are bestowed. jan naanak dhhoorr ma(n)gai this gurasikh kee jo aap japai avareh naam japaavai ||2|| Servant Nanak begs for the dust of the feet of that GurSikh, who himself chants the Naam, and inspires others to chant it. ||2|| Althought we might be right, I don't think its up to us to decide who is malech khalsa, we should instead try to become True Khalsa ourselves. Forgive me for any mistakes I made. Vaaheguroo Jee Kaa Khalsaa Vaaheguroo Jee Kee Fatehh!
  14. It's not necessarily a little kid, they didn't state that. Some people enjoy a lot of keertan! I'm not saying full fledged International, but a local one. My sister had one on her 16th birthday.. it's just a suggestion, since we are discussing the Sikhi related aspects. Nothing wrong with taking them out to a theme park or arcade as well, or even a movie. We usually have home-made cake as well.
  15. Hanji, Sukhamni Sahib and Ardaas is great! It would also be good to have a Keertan Program, perhaps even a Rensbaee!
