  1. Your translation does not seem to tally with - icMqw qw kI kIjIAY jo AnhonI hoie ] chi(n)thaa thaa kee keejeeai jo anehonee hoe || People become anxious, when something unexpected happens. iehu mwrgu sMswr ko nwnk iQru nhI koie ]51] eihu maarag sa(n)saar ko naanak thhir nehee koe ||51|| This is the way of the world, O Nanak; nothing is stable or permanent. ||51|| To understand the "worry" subject, I recommend reading this article http://www.gurbani.org/articles/webart159.htm "Worry"
  2. I concur that there should only be one or the other and not both. By having both options is basically creating inequality. Exceptions for the handicap and the elderly.
  3. Your very statement is already creating division - pure manmat. There is NO such thing as a jatt or ramgharia or dalits Gurdwara. There is only ONE Gurdwara for ALL.
  4. :o Video has been removed by user!. Has anyone got the mp3 for this shabad by Bhai Gurpreet Singh?
  5. http://www.bbc.co.uk/religion/religions/sikhism/ Could sangat please review the information displayed on this site and post their feedback here. For me "Holy Days" stood out immediately. According to Gurbani, All Days are Auspicious and no one day is holier then another.
  6. This section is about gurbani vichaar NOT fighting with me.!!! My punjabi is NOT THAT GOOD and that does not mean that its NON existing. So stop being a pl*nker and reply in a way that might help other learners of Gur Sikhee. And NO its not a literal translation as this is nowhere found in that pangktee ie "the sacred place where the Ganges, Jamuna and Saraswaati Rivers converge".
  7. Thanks for the reply. This means that "the sacred place where the Ganges, Jamuna and Saraswaati Rivers converge, " statement is not needed and is also misleading. I have emailed sikhitothemax and have yet to receive a feedback from them.
  8. Do not be proud of your caste, you ignorant fool! So much sin and corruption comes from this pride. ||1||Rahaaou|| (sggs 1128). In the dwelling of the womb, there is no ancestry or caste. All emanate from God's Seed (of His Joti Svaroopa) ||1|| Tell me, O Pandit: since when have you been a Brahmin? Don't waste your life by continually claiming to be a Brahmin. ||1||Pause|| If you are indeed a Brahmin, born of a Brahmin mother, then why didn't you come by some other way? ||2|| How is it that you are a Brahmin, and I am of a low caste? Is it that I have blood (in my veins), and you have milk (in your veins)? ||3|| Says Kabeer, one who contemplates God, is said to be a Brahmin among us. ||4||7|| (sggs 324) MADNESS OF BELIEF IN CASTE: JAAT-PAAT http://www.gurbani.org/articles/webart30.htm Therefore I will not be participating in the parade this year.
  9. I found this interesting site http://www.scienceinsikhism.org/ . I dont feel that 8.4 billion is used as an exact number in gurbani. The older traditions had put this exact number in their beliefs that is all. In Gurbani, I feel, its any number (not a fixed number) . If you refer to the older traditions, they had also put an exact number in their reincarnation theory. This is also not so in Gurbani.
  10. Todays hukamnam is from ang 687 This pangtee does not seem to be correctly translated in my opinion. As my gurmukhi/punjabi is not that brilliant, could someone break it down and translate it please. pir sa(n)g bhaavai sehaj naavai baenee th sa(n)gam sath sathae || The soul-bride who loves to be with her Husband Lord bathes at the Triveni, the sacred place where the Ganges, Jamuna and Saraswaati Rivers converge, the Truest of the True.
  11. According to Gurbani, we give what we can afford/spare and only after doing truthful work. There is no a finite % attached to what we give. And this dasvand can be anything, not only money.
  12. I love this shabad by bhai Gurpreet Singh jee http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltsqjq1pzVM guroo guroo gur kar man mor || Chant Guru, Guru, Guru, O my mind. http://www.sikhitothemax.com/page.asp?ShabadID=3234
  13. I watching it now (repeat) on discovery knowledge channel. Excellant!

Some people go and metha thek this first or after metah thek SGGSJ.!!!! This is a email srt@sikhs.org.sg from the link above that can be used to INFORM this moorakhs of what they are encouraging at this Gurdwara. 15. From Woolwich Gurdwara Newsletter for the month of phalgun. http://woolwichgurdwara.co.uk/monthlybulletin.aspx PORTRAIT OF A SIKH A true Sikh is a disciple of his Guru With crown of turban on his head, With sober face and shining eyes, He is always calm and never red, Among billions of men he stands aloof, To homeless people, he provides roof. He is an image of harmony and peace, A hater of vice, evil and war, A protector of the weak and needy, His fame has spread near and far, Terror of the tyrants, a support of the meek, In his noble praise, we find no words to speak. Against injustice he raises his voice, For honour he is prepared to die, Truth and courage are his weapons, For selfish gain, he would not lie, He is an enviable image of grace, He upholds the dignity of his race. He is a soldier, he is a saint, Pure and spotless is his life, He frightens none, and fears from none, He is a lover of struggle and strife, For meditation, he reserves his breath, He is immune to life and death. He is a defender of his Faith, He cares a fig for worldly wealth, He is an achiever par excellence, A model of indefineable health, He treats alike his friends and foes, He stands like a rock in weal and woes. If all the Sikhs emulate his role, And evince their readiness for sacrifice, They would restore their past glory, When they cultivate virtue and shun vice, Sikhism would then scale new height, Darkness would vanish to pave way for Light. (By Principal S.S. Prince)
  16. What do you really think the REAL meaning of the word "sach khand" is.? Do you think its where a bunch of kirpans etc are placed with a picture of Guru jee in a special enclosure??? We use the word 'sach khand' willy nilly without actually understanding the true meaning of the word!! yes a pity but on the other hand he would have unknowingly promoted yatras (pilgrimages) as a nessecity which its not in sikhi. yeah i was taken aback with the use of the word 'assasinated' too.
  17. Just watched it on iplayer. Nice person. But a shame that he said the belief in karma /reincarnation is the same as in hinduism as it is not. Since Sikhs do not worship pictures or items/idols, its also a shame that there was an area where kirpans and pic of guru jee was set up as a shrine.!!
  18. That fool in the video is a christian who is trying to fool Sikhs by wearing a turban and a uncut facial hair.
  19. Who is Sant Baba Jeet Singh Ji and what has he got to do with the Gurdwara?
  20. I think those who listening to and live Gurmat should be known as 'GurSikhs' not "Sikhs" and we should all call this path 'GurSikhee' not "Sikhism". Gur sikhee gur sikh sun andar siaanaa baahar bholaa Listening to the teachings of the Guru, the Sikh becomes wise internally though apparently he looks a simpleton (Vaar Bhai Gurdaas Jee, 4). And if a person uses the word "Sikh" it will mean that he/she is just starting the GurSikhee path (ie inquirying into and understanding 'Dharam Khand').
  21. I like reading vichar on gurbani.org and below is from that site "Though the author was born in a Sikh family (parents: Tarlochan Singh and Karam Kaur) in Punjab (Doaba region), India, but judging himself, he certainly knows very little about the Sikhi. Therefore, it would be a travesty of truth him calling himself a Sikh or Khalsa (pronounced as Khaalsaa). Because, according to the Gurbani, to be a True Sikh or Khalsa is not a question of heredity, family of birth, ancestry, religion, race, region, social status, caste, creed, education, titles or any peculiar external appearance of a person; it is a question Of Self-realization (Realization of one's Real Nature as "Joti-Svaroopa")! In other words, these words "Sikh" and "Khalsa" do not represent one's physical state. But, to the contrary, they indicate a Higher Spiritual State for us to experience within us. In this context, consider the following verses: So guru so sikh hai bhaaee jin joti jot milaaee: He alone is the Guru and he alone is the Sikh who has become one with the Divine Light (sggs 602). Pooran jot jagai ghat main tab Khaalas taahi Nakhaalas jaano: One becomes Khaalsaa (pure within) only when he realizes his Complete Self within; otherwise know him to be an impure one (Guru Gobind Singh Jee). Aatam ras ji jaanahee so hai khaalas dev: He who has realized the Self within is alone the godly Khaalsaa - Pure Being (Guru Gobind Singh Jee). Kahu Kabeer jan bhaye Khaalse prem bhagti jih jaanee: Says Kabeer: Those persons become Khaalsaa (pure within) who have realized the Prema Bhagti within - Loving Devotion, Divine Name, Self, etc. (sggs 655). Jap tap satt santokh pikhi darsan gur sikhah: Gazing upon the Blessed Vision of Divine Darshan (Self-realization), the Gursikh is blessed with chanting and deep meditation, truth and contentment (sggs 1395)." This pangktee also comes to mind : Sikhee sikhiaa gur veechaari Sikhi is learning by Contemplating the GurShabad (SGGSJ 465). And GurShabad can only be found in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee.
  22. Because they are so LOUD. !!! Why are they SHOUTING in a small darbar hall with LOUD speakers on at the same time!! Ok maybe BAN SPEAKERS when Dhadi singers are on. Many times I have to put tissues in my ear just to listen to keertan in peace.
  23. If I was a Pardhan for a day I would 1. Inform everyone that the darbar sahib IS NOT a Concert or Bhangra Hall and therefore not have the speakers so LOUD. Children and babies have a danger with their hearing. Sangat that has not gone DEAF as yet are not able to concentrate on Gurbani shabd in peace with such LOUD speakers. 2. Announce throughout the day, the merits of listening and singing along to shabd keertan AND NOT TOO gossip and have unessacary chiter chater. 3. Provide small cushions to sangat so they are able to sit longer. 4. BAN Thadi singers.
  24. You wont get this from the muslims would you? quote from timesonline " Israel had dropped leaflets on Gaza Saturday warning of the offensive. “The IDF (Israeli Defense Forces) is not working against the people of Gaza but against Hamas and the terrorists only,” the leaflets, in Arabic, explained. “Stay safe by following our orders.”" Has the Jewish community carried out any suicide bombing? Never. Have the muslims? Plenty. Muslims has already shot down 2 young Jewish teenagers in europe. Now they have threatened the lives of all Jewish children living any where in the world.
