  1. WaheguruJiKaKhasla WaheguruJiKiFateh Can anyone in the vacinity of Hounslow, Southall (UK) or any of the surrounding area's advise if they are aware of any Santhia Classes or meeting of collective minds to discuss Sikhi on a regular basis. If not is anyone aware of any Gursikhs in & around these areas who would be interested in dedicating some of their time to possibly setting up such a class? as well as any Brothers & Sisters who would like to attend such a Class? Any information or assistance would be much appreciated. Also if these sorts of Get togethers are not currently being held at your local Gurdwara Sahib, then it may be a good idea to approach your local Gurdwara committee member to enquire how you can set one up! 2. WaheguruJiKaKhalsa WaheguruJiKiFateh Brother Akirtghan, I read the previous posts etc. and understood the significance of giving money but I think Brother DW's post gave a nice summary of my thinking on this issue. Keep Blue Sky'ing. :TH: WaheguruJiKaKhalsa WaheguruJiKiFateh
  3. WaheguruJiKaKhalsa WaheguruJiKiFateh My Brother, thank you for sharing this information with us. Do you have any direct links with or know of any way for the Sangat on this forum to interact with these Brothers & Sisters and possibly assist with Financial & Physical Seva? I have a great concern about issue like this that affect the Panth in this day & age and would love to hear what idea's (if any) you have had so far in tackling them. Many thanks. 4. WaheguruJiKaKhalsa WaheguruJiKiFateh "if you want to discuss such topics, then it is best you talk about it on some other website." - You must be the Self appointed Forum Gestapo  So I guess you didn't understand where we were coming from or the merit of the information presented. If I your Brother or any other member of this forum can be of any assistance in helping you understand please do not hesitate to ask. WaheguruJiKaKhalsa WaheguruJiKiFateh
  5. Umm why are you posting this article on this website? This article has nothing to do with Sikhi. WaheguruJiKaKhalsa WaheguruJiKiFateh My Brother, thats a bit of a closed minded approach to life, isn't it. Sikhi is a way of Life so I think any news to do with the goings on in the world and that can benefit Sikhs to understand whats going on around them does have a place on this forum. I hope you understand where I am coming from and can appreciate the merit of this information. WaheguruJiKaKhalsa WaheguruJiKiFateh
  6. WaheguruJiKaKhalsa WaheguruJiKiFateh Brother what type if Form is this? where does it hail from? I look forward to your reply. WaheguruJiKaKhalsa WaheguruJiKiFateh

  8. WaheguruJiKaKhalsa WaheguruJiKiFateh My Brother thank you for sharing this exceptional video with us. I was just looking up Mark Juergensmeyer on my old friend Google and came across the following book. I think the video may be a promotion piece or maybe the launch read for it?? Terror in the Mind of God: The Global Rise of Religious Violence By Mark Juergensmeyer "Completely revised and updated, this new edition of Terror in the Mind of God incorporates the events of September 11, 2001 into Mark Juergensmeyer's landmark study of religious terrorism. Juergensmeyer explores the 1993 World Trade Center explosion, Hamas suicide bombings, the Tokyo subway nerve gas attack, and the killing of abortion clinic doctors in the United States. His personal interviews with 1993 World Trade Center bomber Mahmud Abouhalima, Christian Right activist Mike Bray, Hamas leaders Sheik Yassin and Abdul Azis Rantisi, and Sikh political leader Simranjit Singh Mann, among others, take us into the mindset of those who perpetrate and support violence in the name of religion. 10. Bhai Sahib Proactive Jee, Please elaborate a little more, because this guy and his views are new to me. Are you saying that he was originally a Shanatan or Sikh, who has now changed his stance on Sikhi and Guru Khalsa Panth? Many thanks SSK
  11. sori http://www.sikhawareness.com/sikhawareness...opic.php?t=9345 WaheguruJiKaKhalsa WaheguruJiKiFateh My Sister thanks for keeping the Sangat aware of this issue. Sangat Jeeo Please read the complete thread at the above link in detail and familiarise yourself with the points made around the main issues as it looks like another Group has raised its head laying claim to being the true Path of the Guru Khalsa Panth. 12. WaheguruJiKaKhalsa WaheguruJiKiFateh Can anyone advise if the following book is available as a re-press and if so where I can get a copy. Hum Hindu Nahin by Bhai Kahan Singh Nabha Many thanks & I llok forward to your reply WaheguruJiKaKhalsa WaheguruJiKiFateh
  13. WaheguruJiKaKhalsa WaheguruJiKiFateh I Have Bumped this post because I feel that it a joke that it has only had 185 views with 4 comments where as a topic titled Hi5 can get 1759 views with 45 comments (Maybe, I should have titled it Singhs declare a revolution with a set of Chop Sticks ). :umm: :D      :| Come on Khalsa Ji, wake up and smell the Cha. This topic highlights some of the reasons why the Panth is in the State that it is. WaheguruJiKaKhalsa WaheguruJiKiFateh
  14. WaheguruJiKaKhalsa WaheguruJiKiFateh My Brothers & Sisters, Divide & Rule is an age old system created & used by certain groups in society to undermine the developments of another. Wiki defines Divide & Rule as follows: "In politics and sociology, divide and rule (also known as divide and conquer) is a combination political, military and economic strategy of gaining and maintaining power by breaking up larger concentrations of power into chunks that individually have less power than the one implementing the strategy. In reality, it often refers to a strategy where small power groups are prevented from linking up and becoming more powerful, since it is difficult to break up existing power structures". The reason for this post is to make a humble request to all the Guru Piyari Sangat on this forum, to not fall into the trap of constantly Slandering other people within the Panth just because they believe in a different way of doing things. This mind set is not Gurmat and ultimately keeps you spiritually away from Guru Ji. If you think about this carefully, the ones who want to destroy Sikhi will have achieved their Goal without any direct attack if you continue in this negative manner. N.B. I’m not in any way suggesting that you should stop making a stand against attacks on Sikhi (from internal forces) all I am saying is to consider how you conduct yourself in making this stand & if it is within the guidelines set by Guru Sahib. One of the uniquely Beautiful things about Sikhi is that we believe & advocate "Nanak naam chardi kala ther bahnae sarbaht da bhala" (Blessings for All, even non Sikhs). With this in mind, anytime you are posting a topic, comment or reply think about the reason you are doing it very carefully and please consider the collective sangats (Sikh & Non-Sikhs) feelings in the content of that message. I have recently noticed that certain individuals are continuingly posting derogatory comments just to get a reaction out of others (Divide & Rule!) & then sit back rubbing their hands at the Thamasha they have created (They know who they are). I fully believe that it is your right as a Sikh to question these certain individuals, their motives & also why they are conducting in these games, but think that the way in which you conveying that message would have more impact if it was done in a decent manner which does not compromise you & your Gursikhi. Contemplate this example, a Muslim gentleman, with full facial Beard (Mr X) is approached by a police officer and questioned about an incident on a near by street. Mr X has nothing to do with this incident so takes the questioning as very offensive & as a direct insult. He feels that the only reason the officer has approached him is because he’s Muslim & starts to take an aggressive tone with the officer to correct his ignorance. However the Police officer feels that he is well within his right to question the gentleman, so hence a stand off pursues. Mr X is arrested & taken to the local police station, where he is met by a solicitor. In the interview room the Solicitor begins to advised the police officer (in that Calm & Collected, way that Solicitors do) as to why Mr X, took offence to the questioning and how he should possibly approach similar situations in future. Mr X is released without charge and advised to in future convey his message in a decent manner. Moral of the story, think before you act as once you have done it, you cannot take it back! Just me thinking out loud……… WaheguruJiKaKhalsa WaheguruJiKiFateh
  15. WaheguruJiKaKhalsa WaheguruJiKiFateh Spot on answer. SS 1884 - Dont look at those pictures as your Guru, as your Guru is waiting for you at your local Gurdwara. However be mindful of the fact that allot of these pictures, calenders etc usually have some Gurbani writen on them, so dispose of them in a decent manner with respect for the Bani alone. Pictures = Idols WaheguruJiKaKhalsa WaheguruJiKiFateh Ps. Amrit is a Journey, not a destination.
  16. WaheguruJiKaKhalsa WaheguruJiKiFateh "Can anyone please explain what EKTA actually means? is it a Sikhi term?" I posted this question in another section of this forum and did not get much more detail than it means Unity. I suppose I should have asked for a more indepth answer :umm: Can anyone shed any light on where this term comes from & possibly provide some lines from Bani where it is used. Many thanks WaheguruJiKaKhalsa WaheguruJiKiFateh
  17. WaheguruJiKaKhalsa WaheguruJiKiFateh Can anyone please explain what EKTA actually means? is it a Sikhi term? Many thanks WaheguruJiKaKhalsa WaheguruJiKiFateh
  18. u being serious or is that a sarcastic comment? I don't know :umm: . Depends how you interpret it . RDB, RSS both start with an R, I see a good reason to bash RSS and its allies. Wow, Yeah I know this game... me next, right here goes! BJP & BNP they both start in B, end in P plus they both have a stiffy for the Swastika. How did I do, is that how we're gonna play this game?
  19. WaheguruJiKaKhalsa WaheguruJiKiFateh My Brother, I thank you for posting this video link and opening peoples eyes to the Barbaric actions which are carried out on a daily basis by human beings for the lust of Blood, Flesh & Money. May Waheguru forgive the Souls of those who carry out these acts and make them see their foolish ways for what they really are. To those who speak & act on behalf of those who can not, May Waheguru bless all your endevours and keep you in Chardi Kala. Keep up the Good seva. WaheguruJiKaKhalsa WaheguruJiKiFateh
  20. WaheguruJiKaKhalsa WaheguruJiKiFateh Bhai Sahib, Thank you, I appreciate your comments. The reason I asked the said question is because, as a youth I like many other's was guilty of blind worshipping / followed Sikhi by the example of my family. However as I and my understanding of Sikhi and other world religions has developed over the years, I have found certain aspects previously taken as "Gospel" (Excuse the Pun) to contradict my findings. When I have questioned the "Ritualistic" actions being performed and requested answers to questions like: 1. How do you know that these pictures you "Do your ardas to, or that fill your heart with Joy" are actually of any of the Gurus. 2. If you need something to visualise on when doing Simran or Ardas etc. Then why do you not focus on Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Ek OngKar or ever The Khanda? 3. If the Pictures are Sikh Art and designed as a representation of our History, then Why do you drape these images with Garlands / Haar's and light Thoof's etc. No one was able to provide me with a definitive answer (in line with Sikhi) to justify their actions. I am in no position to Judge anyone, so please forgive me if it seems like I am but if these things do not get said then forums like this are pointless. Anyway, looking at some of the other posts it seems that there are a number of differing perspectives / understanding of what idol worship is. WikiPedia defines Idol Worship as: "Idol worship is the worship of an inanimate object purported to have supernatural properties, and even to have a distinct personality. Although this is considered to be Idolatry by Christians, Muslims and Jews, it not considered so in several other religions." So from the above, it seems like some of us are actually engaging in Idol Worship. Thought! - Just because some "Baba, Sant or Jatha Pandi" tell's you that something is Right, does it make it Right? Or just because you have carried out the same action for years, does that make those actions correct? I know that our intention's go along way for our actions but at the point we find out our previous actions we're incorrect, what do we do? Does our Ego kick in and not let us admit that we we're wrong? - Just a thought! Does anyone have any Gurbani relative to this thread please? WaheguruJiKaKhalsa WaheguruJiKiFateh
  21. WaheguruJiKaKhalsa WaheguruJiKiFateh I would like to ask the Sangat if you: 1. Keep any Pictures of "The Guru's" in your house etc? 2. If you consider pictures of "The Guru's" to be a form of Idol worship? Thanks & I look forward to your comments. WaheguruJiKaKhalsa WaheguruJiKiFateh
  22. "About the Author" Dr Abraham. T. Kovoor was free thinker, rationalist and psychiatrist, from Kerala, South India who later spent his life in Sri Lanka. He was the president of the Rationalist Association of Sri Lanka where he and Dr Carlo Fonseka held regular meetings at Thurston College, Colombo. He came to the conclusion that there was absolutely no objective truth behind such claims and beliefs in all types of alleged psychic, para-psychological and spiritual phenomena based on his intensive scientific researches for over half a century. He was one of the first and the only scientist among psychical researchers in the world at that time to be awarded a doctorate for his research by the Minnesota Institute of Philosophy of U.S. for his thesis on psychic and para-psychic phenomena. I was told by a teacher in Sri Lanka how Dr Kovoor used to distribute the so-called "Holy Ash" in the same manner some self-appointed Hindu gurus do. "Sathya Sai Baba" one of those Gurus from Karnataka, India , whose performance of "Holy Ash" distribution among his followers was considered to be very miraculous. His assertion was that all those who claim to possess psychic, para-psychic and spiritual powers were either hoaxers or mentally deranged persons suffering from cryptesthesia. He said, " nobody has and nobody ever had supernatural powers. They exist only in the pages of scriptures and sensation-mongering newspapers. " Dr. Kovoor's main aim was to enlighten people and teach them to go by reason and scientific verification. He was born at Tiruvalla in Kerala, (South India) on 10th April, 1898 in a Christian family. His father was Rev. Kovoor Eipe Thomma Katthanar, the Vicar General of the Mar Thomma Syrian Church of Malabar. He completed his basic education at the Syrian Christian Seminary in Kerala and and received his higher education along with younger brother Dr Behanan Kovoor (who was at Yale University and United Nations), at the Bengabasi College, Calcutta, where he specialised in Botany and Zoology. He was the only scientist in Asia took part in an expedition to the Indian Ocean along with other scientists at the invitation by the " Ernst Haeckel Ecology Center" of U.S.A Dr Kovoor was very much attached to the rational teaching of Buddha because Buddha was a great social and religious reformer of India, rebelled against Hindu dogmatism and taught a more rational and tolerant philosophy than any others. He disregarded his Christian faith and tradition as he couldn't accept the Bible as the word of an omniscient god. As he gradually matured he became a free thinker and adopted rationalism as his philosophy. He passed away on September 18, 1978 in Colombo, Sri Lanka at the age 80
