  1. Jee i'm also an OCD sufferer. Inbox me your skype/msn if you like and we chat about it if you wish. I've had numerous types of therapy so I guess I could share some of my first hand experiences. Guroofateh!
  2. I think that is quite the overstatement of the year. France and Russia springs to my mind. Vaaheguroo Jee Kaa Khaalsaa Vaaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!
  3. Paajee one of my uni friends who is amrithdhaari will be on campus next year. I'll contact him and get back to you asap regarding accommodation. Guroofateh!
  4. Me and my dear paajee "Hau Apraadhi" were both born and live in Birmingham, so we can call it a bit rough :tongue2: I also go to Aston University but unfortunately I am going on placement this year and i'm not amrithdhaari Vaaheguroo Jee Kaa Khaalsaa Vaaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!

  6. Could not agree more bro Well Said! :happy2: Guroofateh
  7. Vaaheguroo Jee Kaa Khaalsaa Vaaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh! Cyber Sangat Jee, One of my many passions in life outside of Sikhi is that of science. I am a highly enthusiastic biologist and care passionately about life, the world around us and the people within it. One of my greatest interests is that of evolution, something that is not only scientific fact but also something very beautiful - the idea of continually developing perfection from imperfection, going from simple beginnings to complexity. As part of my passion for this I would like your views on evolution sangat jee, as well as being able to answer any questions or misconceptions that you may have. I have also included a poll to see how many of you believe it and how many of you don't. I look forward to reading your viewpoints. Take Care and God Bless, Vaaheguroo Jee Kaa Khaalsaa Vaaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!
  8. He doesn't paajee. Sri Guru Nanak Dev Jee told us straight that he is 'Nirvair'. If God punished, that would make him vindictive and petty.
  9. If no one remembers 1984 in 15 years time, then we only have ourselves to blame. It is up to us to continue to keep the flame of justice burning and for us to install this in our future generations. Tryanny is timeless. Why do you think we still remember Hitler, Stalin, Ivan the Terrible and the Roman Emperors Nero and Caligula? This greatest atrocity speaks to more than just Sikhs. When I was first told about the events of 1984, even at the tender age of 12 years old, it spoke to me not as a "wannabe sikh convert"... but as a human being Not for one minute am I saying I have the answer on how we are to get justice. What I do know however, is that we shouldn't "wait" for an inspiring leader to rally the call of Sikhs nor do I believe we should remain fully peaceful or wage full out war on the Government. Guroofateh.

    Kissing

Vaaheguroo Jee Kaa Khaalsaa Vaaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh! :waheguru: I understand the intention of your post jee but I personally believe questions like this can make Sikhi and God appear rule-ridden with lots of things you can do and can't do. I don't think Sikhi or life as an amrithdhaari is like that. Sure there are things that are black and white such as the cutting of hair and consumption of intoxicants, but I believe kissing someone such as a family member or spouse is perfectly fine. I don't see why it would be against Sikhi or indeed Vaaheguroo? God is above and beyond all of this. In my opinion, its fine jee as long as it is a close family member, partner or spouse. Please forgive me if I have offended anyone. This wasn't my intention. Vaaheguroo Jee Kaa Khaalsaa Vaaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!
  11. Vaaheguroo Jee Kaa Khaalsaa Vaaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh! :waheguru: How about living on campus jee, like the New Build or Lakeside or maybe live off campus at Heights or Mass House? Take Care, 'GoraSikh' Vaaheguroo Jee Kaa Khaalsaa Vaaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!
  12. Vaaheguroo doesn't punish jee, he is 'Nirvair' (Without Hate) :waheguru:
  13. Vaaheguroo Jee Kaa Khaalsaa Vaaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh! :)

  14. Vaaheguroo Jee Kaa Khaalsaa Vaaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh :waheguru: The very word "Religion" itself when broken down simply means to "realise origin". Since the beginning of mankind who looked up at the heavens and the world around them in awe at its grandeur, homosapiens have tried to explain how everything within the universe came into existence. As a product of this, thousands upon thousands of religions and philosophies have been formed over millenia to try and provide an explanation. Whether it is a tiny faith specific to a community in the most remote places of the world who believe in ancestral worship, Gods of the Sea and Fertility to the more established mainstream faiths of Hinduism, Paganism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam and Sikhi. No matter what you call God, whether you refer to him as Zeus, Thor, Raam, Allah, Yahweh or Vaaheguroo, or whether you pray five times a day, just once, whether you read the Bible, the Torah or the Vedas, whether you visit the church or the temple, as long as your soul has that love for Vaaheguroo, that is key! As my brothers and sisters have previously posted, Dhan Guru Nanak Dev Jee came to this earth to put right what those previously had done wrong. He alcame to rid the world of meaningless ritus that are central to other faiths, such as fasting, circumcision along with visiting sacred shrines that hinder; more than aid spirituality. He removed the horrid caste system and the need for mere labels. "Let mercy be your mosque, faith your prayer-mat, and honest living your Koran. Make modesty your circumcision, and good conduct your fast. In this way, you shall be a true Muslim. Let good conduct be your Kaabaa, Truth your spiritual guide, and the karma of good deeds your prayer and chant. Let your rosary be that which is pleasing to His Will. O Nanak, God shall preserve your honor."-Ang 141 "There are five prayers and five times of day for prayer; the five have five names. Let the first be truthfulness, the second honest living, and the third charity in the Name of God. Let the fourth be good will to all, and the fifth the praise of the Lord. Repeat the prayer of good deeds, and then, you may call yourself a Muslim."-Ang 141 "It is difficult to be called a Muslim; if one is truly a Muslim, then he may be called one. First, let him savor the religion of the Prophet as sweet; then, let his pride of his possessions be scraped away. Becoming a true Muslim, a disciple of the faith of Mohammed, let him put aside the delusion of death and life. As he submits to God's Will, and surrenders to the Creator, he is rid of selfishness and conceit. And when, O Nanak, he is merciful to all beings, only then shall he be called a Muslim"-Ang 141 "The Hindu worships at the temple, the Muslim at the mosque. Naam Dayv serves that Lord, who is not limited to either the temple or the mosque."-Ang 875 "Says Nanak, the Guru has rid me of doubt. The Muslim God Allah and the Hindu God Paarbrahm are one and the same."-Ang 897 "The God of the Hindus lives in the southern lands, and the God of the Muslims lives in the west. So search in your heart - look deep into your heart of hearts; this is the home and the place where God lives. The Brahmins observe twenty-four fasts during the year, and the Muslims fast during the month of Ramadaan. The Muslims set aside eleven months, and claim that the treasure is only in the one month. What is the use of bathing at Orissa? Why do the Muslims bow their heads in the mosque? If someone has deception in his heart, what good is it for him to utter prayers? And what good is it for him to go on pilgrimage to Mecca?"-Ang 1349 You see, there is no right or wrong religion, or one true faith. Just as Vaaheguroos creation is so diverse, so are the ways in which to love him. Sri Guru Nanak Dev Jee along with the other Gurus provided us with a beautiful understanding and a "technology" that allows us to strip away all the extra jargon, soleley allowing us to love and serve Vaaheguroo and his entire creation. I hope my points make sense Saadh Sangat Jee. Sorry if I have offended anyone or have said something incorrect - this was my intention. I am a manmukh who is still taking my first steps on this beautiful path. Take Care, God Bless. Vaaheguroo Jee Kaa Khaalsaa Vaaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!
  15. In the words of a dear paajee, "No one teaches you how to love your parents, so why do you need someone to tell you how to love God?" Try a variety of different stances on how to jap naam jee, whether thats closing your eyes or opening them. Whether its sitting or standing. Saying "Vaaheguroo" or "Ik Onkaar, Sat Naam" etc. There is no "right" or "wrong" way jee. See which works best for you! Vaaheguroo Jee Kaa Khaalsaa Vaaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!
  16. Vaaheguroo Jee Kaa Khaalsaa Vaaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh! No disrespect cyber sangat jee, but I don't understand or believe that Dharam Raaj or Jamdooths can get it wrong. Seriously, they get confused between names? Please forgive me if I have upset or offended anyone. Guroofateh!
  17. Vaaheguroo Jee Kaa Khaalsaa Vaaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh! Beautifully explained here by Guruka Singh Paajee. Akaal!

  20. Vaaheguroo Jee Kaa Khaalsaa Vaaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh. Saadh sangat jee, after a number of recent events and thoughts i have been having, i thought to myself it would be a wise idea to declutter my mind, and spill out onto paper my emotions, thoughts and feelings. In doing so, i devised a poem of the experiences we have all had, whether we are born into sikhi and raised as a sikh, or born as a westerner, such as myself, who too has had to do that searching, and was blessed by Maharaaj with such a beautiful path. Id like to share this with you... The Search© Oh lord of the universe; for my mouth is parched, my eyes teary and my limbs are so heavy. By your glance of grace I beg you, please release my soul and body from such a state; and free my consciousness from this cage of bone. Dear lord, my soul yearns for your naam. For I am a mere raindrop from the cloud-ridden heavens, and a mere ray of light from the ball of fire. Please as a son to his father, take me unto your shelter For I am lost, wandering in all four directions I am still looking for it, whilst some have been searching their entire lives For where can you be found dear father? In the peaks and heavens of the Himalayas Or the depths of the world ocean? For are you found under the canopies of the world’s great rainforests Or are you hiding in the shadows of my deepest thoughts? There are those that fill the void with the world’s riches of mayaa; And there are those that live in seclusion, still searching, still calling There are those that bow and pray in the shadows of great halls Those that deny you, and those that utter divine scripture and texts But tell me dear father? Where is the place, and the time I can find you? ~ Do I scream, do I chant, do I pray or do I sing? Do I bow to idols, prophets, brothers or kings? Do I follow the words of Jesus Christ, Mohammed, Abraham or Raam? Krishnaa, Shivaa, Moses, or simply worship the naam? Do I visit the church, the temple, the synagogue or the mosque? Do I pray to you in the morning, midday or at dusk? For are you in the winds that howl and whisper in my ear? Or can your voice be heard in the birds that flutter, that chirp and sing so queer? 8.4 million times I have taken incarnations, Had countless, friends, countless families and countless relations But all is temporary, for we are all your creation Maharaaj for I have been an actor upon your world-stage; and uttered many lines Played and danced with mayaa, oh so-so many times For now this life you have blessed me with your grace For I have finally after eons; clasped my tired eyes upon your radiant face Maharaaj, Allah, Yahweh and God, I no longer feel lost, begotten or down trod For you have been there all along, in my deepest of hearts For when I gave up my ego, clever tricks and stop trying to be smart Oh father I beg you let me clasp the hem of your robe Walk hand-in-hand with me to the end of the road, To the building with the great gold sparkling dome Through the gates to the place, the place I call home. By, Gora Singh©
  21. Hello BusinessLady, I hope you are well. I just wanted to say that I am not of Punjabi or Indian origin, but infact white british. Although like all Sikhs who have many questions regarding Sikhism; if you have any questions about sikhi from a perspective from somone who wasn't born into a sikh family than feel free to contact me. Keep posting on here however, there are many spiritually high individuals who are more knowledgable than I can ever hope to be. Take Care SikherOfTheNaam
  22. Vaaheguroo Jee Kaa Khaalsaa Vaaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh I'm an avid reader of my phenjee's blog (Amrit Kaur Khalsa) who writes many brilliant poems, blogs and articles etc. about Sikhi which are not only full of pyaar, knowledge and wisdom; but are also very inspiritational! I thought (if i may - and here's hoping she doesn't mind) share with you a recent post she published on what it is to be a 'Sikh' and helps to remind me of the reasoning and consequences of my actions and actually how far I have to progress on this beautiful spritiual path I have been blessed to not only know of but also step on. I personally found it to be a huge wake up call! 'How many more times... How many more times will you fake your belief. Hide behind your appearance. Pretend you are an angel. Perfect in your bana, rehit, in your discipline and desire. Straight backed, white-chola straight-jacket, smile upon the face. How many times will you enjoy the heavy shifting weight of your turban while you sway your head and talk about things you don't even know. How many times will you play humble, your ego hidden under cloths of flower-talk. How many times will you bow your head in sangat, wondering who's watching and who's there in the dark hall. How many times are you going to parade before everyone, like some kind of enlightened saint, or some kind of thirsty, or some kind of gursikh "to the T". Who are you? Rather - Who do you think you are?? How many more times are you going to repeat the same old actions, rituals and regulations. Do this, don't do that. How many times you gonna say "waheguru waheguru" like a zombie-drone without it meaning anything to you, expecting to get enlightenment? How many times are you going to repeat your nitnem paath, and feel "ahhh nice" guilt-free, done it for the day. Not a single word ever staying between those deaf ears. How many times you gonna slander the non-believers, the manmukhs and the monay, and the different denominations and faiths. Do you gain any sick pleasure from all that babble? What are you doing?! How many more times are you going to eat at yourself - alive? Trying to be something you are not. Trying to make a good impression, you compress yourself into an image and projection - to please others - to free yourself from the shame of worldliness? To puff up your chest, ego ample wide? So you know the jargon. You know the history. You know all the dance steps. You got the name. The appearance. The projection. The looks. You walk the walk, and talk the talk. Found your way around the ropes - puppet strings. How nice - Impressive. God bless you. What is all this?! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sikhism, or any other religion - is not something you can "put on" and wear like some costume and voila. It's not something you do 2 hours a day and you're done. It's not something once a week at the place-of-worship. It's not even in the recitation of some language you don't understand. It's not about self-mortification and self-denial, and fake humility. Nor is it about "I'm good, he's bad", or even the notion of the dualistic idea of good and bad. It's not in reading, or learning or crushing yourself and playing it out. It's about being True and honest. Being Human. And becoming the embodiment of love. Love to everything, love to everyone - regardless. Love to all Words, Love to all styles of dress, and languages, and cultures and religions. Love to all paths. Love to all - because you really connect - because you recognize in the most basic-primal human sense that they are you and you are them. Now - THAT - makes you humble, that makes you human, and that makes you divine. Regardless what you wear, what you say, what you do. Without being honest about who you are, and without true Unconditional Love for All (including yourself), you are just another one swirling around in the ocean of Maya - playing a role on the world stage. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ So... How many more times are you going to fake it? How much longer are you going to do it, aren't you already fed up of the game? I know I am.' Take Care Vaaheguroo Jee Kaa Khaalsaa Vaaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!
  23. I hope that movie isnt promoting to cut your hair??????????????????? in order to "compromise"????????? Its funny how he cut his hair and then fell into the kaam jal???????? This movie trailer has its suspicions with me  Hey Pritam jee, hope your good. Although the film does cover the topic of a man torn between his identity and career (and thus making "compromises") it actually doesn't end that way. Its about finding your identity and re-evaluating your beliefs. The Director 'Sarab S Neelam' is an amrithdhaari btw. Take Care. Vaaheguroo Jee Kaa Khaalsaa Vaaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!
