  1. Waheguroo Jee Kaa Khalsa Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh! Dear Sangat, Apologies for the delay. Bebe Nanaki Ren Sabhaiee 2010 is now being broadcasted at a different link: BEBE NANAKI REN SABHAIEE 2010 Waheguroo Jee Kaa Khalsa Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!
  2. wjkk wjkf jee For me, "to die" is to leave the part of what is "me". The part of me is the "I" part, which is my ego. Without ego, then the "I" part of me doesn't exist - then there is just God ... hence, being one with God/Shabad. Being in this state, then devotional worship can take place... wjkk wjkf jee
  3. hmmm, cam on ppl... help ma mate out... there must be someone who needs a place to stay... !!!!!!
  4. wjkk wjkf jee If i get students, then collectively, we don't have to pay council tax. If I rent out to a professional, then I wouldn't be able to bring them in to a tenancy agreement because if I did, then they by law must pay council tax which will add a lot to the rent. I plan to advertise at the Gurdwaray in Glasgow - hopefully get some singhs that are vegetarian at least! It would be an ideal situation to have amrit dhari's but at the end of the day, you're right - it's my dads flat - we can certainly lay down the rules. I have found a Hindu vegetarian so that could work. It would definitely be better to have a professional - they would most likely be light drinkers, more respectful and probably at work most the time but as i mentioned before, they would then force a council tax on the flat which is a lot for where the flat is. Ardaas/Kirpa is the only way forward - I'm not worried about the situation - Guru has his plans for me! thanks for your replies...please pass this on so people know about it! wjkk wjkf jee
  5. wjkk wjkf jee time is running out... Is there anyone interested in this offer? Do you know of anyone who may be interested? Is there anywhere else I could advertise for Amritdhari Singhs? Help out a brother eh !! wjkk wjkf jee
  6. wjkk wjkf jee chose a couple of lines of Bani, and do Simran on those two lines, for example haa haa prubh raakh laehu O God, please save me! hum thae kishoo n hoe maerae suaamee kar kirupaa apunaa naam dhaehu By myself, I cannot do anything, O my Lord and Master; by Your Grace, please bless me with Your Name. ||1||Pause|| There is no intermediate stage for this where as a beginner, you visualise pictures. Everyone's mind wonders - it's kaljug!! Its with efforts and Kirpa from the Big Boss when things will start to change, and your love for doing Simran will increase like no ones business. faahae kaattae mittae guvun fathih bhee man jeeth The noose of Death is cut, and one's wanderings cease; victory is obtained, when one conquers his own mind. This whole life is about conquering the mind/ego .. all kirpa!! gurooo!!! wjkk wjkf jee
  7. wjkk wjkf jee Goodness me I thought you were at your GCSE's or something!! My deepest apologies - I should be taking advice from you!!! Naam Abhyaas is another term for Simran. Sitting down in absolute silence and stillness, block all thoughts out and meditate on the word Waheguru - wonderful inlightener! There are lots of ways of doing this. You could contemplate on one line of Gurbani, for example, vin thudh hor j mungunaa sir dhukhaa kai dhukh To ask for any other than You, Lord, is the most miserable of miseries. dhaehi naam sunthokheeaa outhurai mun kee bhukh Please bless me with Your Name, and make me content; may the hunger of my mind be satisfied. and then whilst thinking about those two lines, do Simran. Simran can be done in different ways - singing/speaking/inner speech/breathing through saas giras. What ever is comfortable for you! - All about the love for the One Lord in the end! It helps to turn all the lights off - it'll stop you from being distracted! what do you think? wjkk wjkf jee
  8. wjkk wjkf jee That's an absolutely brilliant post - thanks very much for the advice even though it was someone else looking for it! It's definitely about refining notes down to keywords so when you think of them, it'll open up this "map" to the whole topic! thanks!!! gurrroooo!!!! naam abhiyaas is the answer to everything! wjkk wjkf jee!
  9. wjkk wjkf jee I've always been a sony fan until a few months ago when i bought a 360 - such an amazing console man!! live is absolutely insane! 360 is better than ps3...maybe in a few months, the ps3 will overtake as it usually does but for just now, price, games, ..360 is the better console!!! yeah the connection is straight in to your modem/router...you'll need a minimum of 512k broadband to run live nicely! I've got 2MB and i have to switch off my downloads on torrent or whatever so it works nicely - if eveything's off it's amazing connection - even with 512, i've played on 512 at someones house with all other pcs off and it works briliantly ... on 2mb, my dad can surf and stuff and i can be playing and it'll be fine :s any of you singhs wanna game of halo3 or something, or just a general chat, add me...my gamertag is orangetothemax gurroooo!!! wjkk wjkf
  10. wjkk wjkf jee There is only one friend you should have - a true friend...and that's the big boss - GOD!! Indeed, we all need our mateys so have those friends who will push you to do only good things...jap naam, do sewa, do sangat, do paath, and so on...the rest are useless let's start a love chain and be loving to everyone until the whole world becomes loving :s yay :D :D gurrroooo!!!! wjkk wjkf jee
  11. wjkk wjkf jee! I started University last September (1st yr). I am in my first set of exams. In school, I always used to never study during the term, then cram in exam leave and I got away with some pretty good results. I didn't obviously intend to do this at uni because I was like, crickey this is gonna be hard - and I told myself, okay new start, need to work hard, put in 2hours a night so i don't make the same mistakes. But obviously, I didn't study at all during the term, and it really has stabbed me in the back - really cant get away with it at uni!!! The best way to study without stress is to pace it. Study half an hour a day during term - make goods notes, make sure you understand everything the day you learn it. When you learn something in class, you take it in. If you don't look over it again, in 24 hours of listening to that lesson, you will remember 10% of it. This is fact by the way - not me rambling. On the other hand, if you go home, then read your notes for the day, that percentage of remembering will go up to 40% for 7 days. If you then look over it a third time, maybe at the weekend, write notes up, then it will shoot up to 60% and that's it - it'll stick!! If you don't do that - then you remember 10% of something for one day, then completely forget it! So the real answer is to look at things three times. Then you'll know you actually understand it. When it comes to exam time, all you have to do is just make sure you remember it. For my exams, I was studying really hard, but didn't get anywhere because I kept getting stuck on learning things because I didn't understand them! If you don't understand something you can not commit it to memory! If, you don't have that discipline, like me, and mess about during term and are stuck at exam leave with no revision, then the best way is this. Draw up a timetable of your exam leave. Use excel if you want - i have a brilliant template which i use all the time, so i can give that to you if you want - i just change the dates and exam times when i make a new timetable. So you have this timetable - you timetable in your exam dates and the things you have to do! - sleeping, waking up, amrit vela, Gurdwara, lunch, tea, leisure..and so on. Then in those slots left, you have to split up those times to all your subjects. You have to ask yourself, if i study in all these slots, will i get everything done? If the answer is no, then you have to sacrifice something - perhaps not watching Simpsons at 6 or something! If the answer is yes, then brilliant - make sure you stick to it! I can only really study properly for 40minutes before I lose my concentration. So I study for 40minutes, then have a break for 20. This brings it up to one hour. If you do this for three hours, from 9am to 12am, you will have done 2 hours studying and then you can have lunch..you could have lunch for an hour, then work from 1 - 4...then take a break until maybe half 7, then work till nine, go to sleep at 10 or something! If you haven't done as much as you thought you would have, then work more, if you've done more than you expected, then move on to other stuff which may take longer - or take a break! If you're not able to concentrate - don't sit there and get stressed - do something else like the other singh said - do paath - chaupee is short and beautiful - simply asking for kirpa - do that maybe 5 times and you'll feel lighter!! you won't wanna play ps3 after that ha! the 40min/20 thing doesn't really work at un - i just have to work three hours straight - and my mind is getting used to it. The more you push yourself, your brain will change to concentrate for longer! If you can concentrate longer then work an hour then take 20min break! hope that helps dude, I have more tips! - these aren't my tips by the way - I went on a course called, "learning how to learn"! It was fantastic... good luck dude!! wjkk wjkf.. ps. you can see it's helped me lots - i'm sitting here procrastinating on sikhsangat haha!! in the end it's all about discipline all kirpa
  12. wjkk wjkf jee thank you darmy! I appreicate your support - i wish you would and come live with me ... :s On a more important note, August may seem far away but in the whole property business, i'm afraid to say that August is not far down the line at all. Tenancy agreements need to be sorted, I obviously need to meet the Singh along with family, and my dad has to mainly sort this out. He/they have to prepare to move up to Scotland. There are A LOT of things which need to be organised between now and August so the sooner the better matey. So if any of you have a thought of interest and think that maybe, "Awww i'll give the dude an email in a few months", I'd appreciate that email now because time is of the essence! If no one replies, then I will have to get goray tenants maybe at the start of summer! booo hooo Save the Small Scottish Sikh!!! hehehe WaaaaheeeGurrrrooooo!!! God Bless everyone!! wjkk wjkf jee
  13. wjkk wjkf jee I think the first post was talking about a physical disease. I would say the second one is worse - it's denial isn't it. However, talking in a metaphorical way, the whole world is in a terrible disease! The thing with physical disease is that anyone can see the changes in the person - their energy running low, perhaps physically restrained to do things and so on. The disease that I am talking about that we all have is very difficult to be aware of. The very few aware of it do very little about it!!! Only those who do something about this "invisible disease" are truly blessed and saved in the end. Now, if the writer of the opening post is saying that someone with a physical disease is finding it hard to accept it, what does that say about this disease that I am talking about! Maya (everything which surrounds us), Panj Chor, nindha, and so on all surround us and it's intoxicating, hurtful to the eyes and soul, and most importantly blinds us from the actual reality! The first post and what is being shared in this post shows how difficult this "mission" to meet the One Lord is!! Fortunately for us (Khalsa Panth), there is a very very simple solution to this: hir hir nwmu AauKDu muiK dyvY kwtY jm kI PMDw ]1] rhwau ] har har naam aoukhudh mukh dhaevai kaattai jum kee fundhaa He places the medicine of the Naam into my mouth, and cuts away the noose of Death. ||1||Pause|| Knowing the medicine, we all still ignore it and carry on living this disease! Absolutely shocking isn't it!! Crickey! I wasn't suggesting other religions don't have a solution - it's quite clear that in Gursikhi, we have a SIMPLE, refined answer with no ritualistic stuff. Indeed, if any other person who belongs to a different faith lovingly follows it, then there is no doubt in my mind that they shall be saved to - because it says is in Dhan Dhan Siri Guru Granth Sahib Jee !! I do Ardaas that all of us see sense and make the effort to meet the Lord. Only with his Kirpa from our efforts will things start to happen. ALL KIRPA!!! I do this Ardaas for all of us!!! Wahegurooo!!!! quDu bwJu ipAwry kyv rhw ] thudh baajh piaarae kaev rehaa Without You, O Beloved, how could I even live? sw vifAweI dyih ijqu nwim qyry lwig rhW ] saa vaddiaaee dhaehi jith naam thaerae laag rehaa Bless me with such greatness, that I may remain attached to Your Name. God Bless everyone! Wahegurooooo!!!! ps. could someone tell me how to paste the Gurmukhi font in to a post because it didn't come out in this one wjkk wjkf jee
  14. Waheguroo Jee Kaa Khalsa, Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh Jee !! I think the topic name says it all really! I'm a Scottish born Amrit dhari Singh living in Glasgow studying Aeronautical Engineering at Glasgow University. My dad has a flat here which I am living in just now by myself but have rooms free. I could easily rent to any male studying at Glasgow University but I want to keep my flat a meat free zone. I want my rehat to main intact! If I had non-Sikh tenants, then I'd have to be respectful to how loud I play my keertan, tabla, paath and so on! Of course, it may come to that and I will come to an agreement and respect my tenants needs. When it comes to food, I could have my own shelf on the fridge, my own cupboards and not let them use any of my pots/pans/plates/cutlery. I just thought I should share that for anyone else who's having the same issues! If there are any Singhs out there that might want to study at Glasgow University, Strathclyde University or Caledonian University, my flat is fantastic distance from all of them, especially Glasgow University. I am just about to finish my 1st year in June so I have 4 years left which you could live in the flat, even longer if you wanted. A room would be around £300 + bills per month. I'd be hoping for the tenants to move in on the 1st August - or the tenancy agreement to start then anyway! As a student there is no council tax to pay!! yipee!! so the bills would only include broadband/phone/gas/electricity/factoring. I'd like to add that there are NO tuition fees to pay in Scotland so maybe that's something to think about!! Even if you're from England, they are free if you come to study in Scotland. Finally, I'm not sure when UCAS applications are meant to be in and if they had to be in a while ago, then obviously the Singhs looking at this topic might not be able to rent even if they wanted to! If there still is time to change UCAS, in general, Glasgow University is in the top 100 in the world! It's one of the top in UK for engineering and has a great atmosphere so very much worth looking at. The other Universities, Strathclyde especially are very good as well (reputation wise). Additionally, you guys could always go for clearing later in the summer if UCAS had to be in and you're interested in moving up! I keep talking about "coming up to Scotland" because the majority of you guys on Sikh Sangat are in England!! I didn't know where to post this topic - so hopefully it isn't moved in to a random folder where I don't know! If it is let me know!! Any of you who are interested - please feel free to email me on preet996@hotmail.com May Guru bless us all with Naam, Sangat & Sewa! Preetcharan Singh WAAAHGURROOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Waheguroo Jee Kaa Khalsa, Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh Jee !!
  15. wjkk wjkf sounds fantastic can't make it unfortunately sorry veer ji! wjkk wjkf
  16. goodness me!! i didn't know there were soo many aviation fanatics here!! I have a place at Glasgow University for Aeronautical Engineering. But that's my back up because I actually want to do air traffic control !! any Singhs/Kaurs in the same field?
  17. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh!! I think you're spot on - it isn't acceptable ..."OMG" is used so much now aswell...even non-believers use it!! but here's what we have to ask ourselves...Does it matter? Shouldn't we attend to what we really need to get a grip of - Love, Acceptance, Compassion + Hukam for our guru. If we're japping naam, then there's no time to say, "OMG" or ,"swear on waheguru" and so on.. if we as individuals stop using this language, it might perhaps rub off on others Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh !! *kaam krodh lobh jhooth nindhaa ein thae aap shuddaavuhu*
