Guru has taught us that we should be living a normal life, fulfill our biological functions as well as our spiritual functions, without having our biological functions controlling us (like ok to reproduce, and not act like some of those yogis who shut themselves out from the world). Since s. e.x is a biological function that is often controlling, it might be that by forcing ourselves into monogomy (ie: marriage with a single person), we might be able to more easily control the power that this has over us. All that bonding <admin-profanity filter activated> really pisses me off too, cause they sit there and gloat about being passed out for hours, like seriously executing their liver and wiping out whats left of their brain cells is somehow a badge of honor. Education campaigns won't work that much. I think the biggest problem in our community is that we don't provide support for those who stray off the right path (like the management committes really care), and for the first place, they don't even bother to try to teach the youth the meaning of what they are not supposed to do! They don't know why it is a big deal in sikhi to remain pure and clean! However, with regard to the ritual comment earlier, I think it is wise to point out that Anand Karaj isn't a ritual. Its like going infront of our true guru, with the backing of the sangat, and asking Guruji and God to bless the couple, for happiness, and most importantly, to never forget God throughout their life. Although I agree that anand karaj is something that is sacred to proper amritdhari sikhs, it doesn't really have any other purpose than to provide a blessing on the couple to live happily. Personally, I think that anand karaj is thus open to everyone... people before guru gobind singh were married in this fashion in front of the adi granth, so it is not for poora sikhs only. However one thing does bother me. Since it is so obvious that the Guru means so little to those who think that they are bright enough to shave their beard right after the ceremony, why do it?
