  1. The only guy with a shred of integrity in Panjabi politics resigns........Waheguru..
  2. Hello Folks, For those who are interested: ON THE RADIO TOMMOROW! The track "Fire Within" has been entered in a competition on BBC's Asian Network. It is going against 3 other demos and the winner will the track that is voted for the most by listeners. The show is called "Jump Off" and hosted by Mentor (of Mentor Kollective) and is on Saturdays between 5.00pm and 8.00pm. You can hear the show online from the BBC website. The track will also be given a spin on a show called "Mic Check" hosted by the Foreign Beggers, it will be played in a feature called PROPS! This is on Saturdays too (BBC Asian Network) between 10pm to Midnight. The track "Fire Within" was created by Iron Mongers with view of issues that the artists felt effect the Sikh community in the U.K. based on their own experiences. These include the conversions of girls, single parent families and domestic abuse. These issues need to be confronted and addressed. But the track is still a very positive one that promotes Sikh unity and pride across our diverse community. It will be released at a later date and given away free or at virtually no cost (to cover price of getting CDs printed), so this isn't a money making thing. Please support, if you feel so inclined. 3. Sangat Ji, I feel like a fool, I rushed from work with only vague directions to get the venue yesterday meeting my cousin outside Russel Square Station. To be honest I was just flabbergasted that a someone who was a Sikh man converted. I just wanted to see this guy and look into his eyes and see what type of man this was. After struggling through the rush hour and getting there late I wondered around foolishly with my vague instructions and gave up after about 45 minutes to an hour of searching. But I'm so glad that the people that did turn up did. Thanks for the information. Raj Karega Khalsa
  4. You have to have some sarbloh kattars, those punch dagger things. They are SO cool.....
  5. Panjab University in Patiala published an English to Panjabi as well as a Panjabi to English dictionary. I think you can get them from Sikh Missionary Society in Southall. I haven't been to Southall in years but you can ring them on 020 8574 1902 if they are still about. Hope this helps.
  6. I was talking to some older lot about this and they just said let the <banned word filter activated> be. They said we were better off with weak minded people like that out of the panth. Should we do anything?
  7. Will ask those guys to post the lyrics on the site. Will let you know when that happens. Anyone from the U.K. have any feedback on the track?
  8. hahahahahahaha. niiice. and no problem "dalsingh" lol. I just love the concept of the track. "With this fistful of cholay from your langar I'm going to take on the world"
  9. Whatever, people can exclude as much as they want. It just goes back to haumai. None of us are perfect and some of us are further in our Sikhi than others, but if that results in arrogance/pride on their part then they are in a losing battle against their spiritual aspirations. If people want more commitment to Sikhism then they should be bringing in people with warmth and compassion otherwise we will have even more disgruntled idiots around...i.e. the Aman Dhaliwal guy in the U.K. and that goth twit who tried to shoot up a school with his machine gun in Canada...whatever his name was...
  10. Can we not turn this into a Canadian versus U.K. Sikh catfight please. We need to be supporting each other. Use your brains.
  11. Hi folks, I'm looking for a lovely piece of dhadhi by Gurbuksh Albela. I don't the name of the piece but it starts with "Ehs moti cholayaan dee" (trans) With this fistful of cholay. Can anyone let me know what the proper name of the piece is and where I can it in mp3 format. I've tried searching the net with no success. Much appreciated Dal
  12. I don't think they are saying that monay should stick together but rather the whole panth. Monay, keshdhari and amritdhari.
  13. Don't forget to get a bundle of quality books on Sikhism whilst you are there. Around the Golden Temple is a market, go to the bookstores i.e. Singh Bros. and stock up your library. It is very cheap compared to here! Just make space in your suitcase for them though! lol
  14. SIKH SANGAT NEWS ITEM LINK Looks like a lack of seriousness expressed by the Sikhs too! Judging by the forum response to this incident, not only has this hate crime gone un-noticed by the wider community but the Sikh community do not seem to fussed about this particular hate crime. Why? I'm not surprised by this. The last time the Scottish police had something similar it turned out that the young boy who was alleged to have been attacked in some park had cut his own hair off because he didn't want it. It wasted a lot of police time, so I'm not shocked that the police are cool about this now. How embarrassing is that especially since Sikhs were protesting about it apparently...then the truth came out "this may sound offensive: but scot's wear skirts nothin worse than that is ther now" Wake up......Panjabis wear them too....big long ones that are brightly coloured!....watch a bhangra video from back home and see for yourself.....at least the Scottish ones are a decent colour and not bright yellow, or lime green...or pink....like the ones our lot wear.....hhhmmm
  15. A few guys from South Bank uni are planning to turn up. Here is some advice. Go there in numbers. Go peacefully. Ask questions. It's highly likely that the Aman guy is probably very confused from his dysfunctional upbringing and hence was an easy convert. Ask questions about Islam i.e. in relation to the overwhelming evidence in support of dinosaurs, whether good female Muslims will have 72 gubroo virgin body builders attending to their sexual needs whilst drinking goblets of wine. Ultimately the best idea would be to bring the boy back to his roots. I know in my time we used to scoff that although some dumb girls can be easily converted they wouldn't be able to convert a Sikh man. Maybe this is why they are pushing this one. Question the converts knowledge of Sikhism, Sikh history. He may say that Sikhs are hypocritical and blah blah blah. As much truth as there is in that tell him that Muslims haven't exactly made a good reputation for themselves. So him compassion and understanding not condemnation. This is why we are in this position in the first place. Their are lessons for us to learn here too, at least thats how I feel. Get the Sikh/Panjabi gubroos together and attend. Let them know we are still alive and kicking. But don't get violent unless someone else strikes first! This will just give western media an excuse to push the "these foreigners are all animals" agenda/propaganda. Some members of my family should attend. Organise yourselves and restain yourselves like at the Trafalgar Square protest. Fateh
  16. Come on folks, give us some more feedback on the track. I think stuff like this is important given the kind of idiots that I'm reading about going around universities and dissing their own kind after getting brainwashed by extremists! Do you think there should be more stuff like this or not and why?
  17. If you want to do remixes it helps if you know some instruments before hand. Ok, you can use software like Reason or Cubase but it takes time (years), practise and lots of perseverance to learn how to use these really well. Try learning with someone who is also interested. It would probably be a hell of a lot easier if you got the vocals done fresh yourself rather than tampering around with existing tunes to separate the vocals from the music (very difficult bordering on impossible). I would start by just learning a few instruments really well first.
  18. Look I am seriously disgusted with this too but one thing I saw on Alpha Panjabi channel really struck me as true. When asked about this, one girl said that she believed that when women in the Panjab themselves valued daughters as much as sons, the men would automatically follow suit. This especially includes mother in laws.
  19. Ok, lets not get carried away..........hmmm.............lol
  20. I'm no expert but apparently nihungs have been taking the stuff for centuries, so its not just a modern phenomena at least according to some contemporary European accounts. Anyway my point was not to judge Rastas like you seemed to be doing. It is their own subheachar and they are entitled to it. It doesn't harm Sikhs. Personally I've always been struck by some of the similarities between Sikhs and Rastas. A Jamaiccan friend once told me that a proper rasta was supposed to be vegetarian and live in the hills and grow his own food (aital). Plus the weed shouldn't be abused but used in small amounts to help to meditate in some spiritual way. Plus lets face it, reggae is just cool...especially some of that conscious dub stuff......
  21. Before anyone starts pointing their fingers at Rastas remember that our own Nihungs are notorious for taking weed "milkshakes" (sukha parsaad), sometimes even starting the day on the stuff.
  22. The "Fire Within" track just beat 7 other non signed artists tracks on www.uflx.com (Internet based radio station).
  23. Naujawan: I haven't heard them live but remember that when tunes are made vocalists often layer parts. This means that they sing the chorus (for example) a number of times (3 times for example) and these 3 vocals are placed on the track overlapping each other. This gives the tune a certain effect which obviously cannot be replicated live. I have heard that they are quite good live from someone else though. I think they willl put contact details on the site soon if they haven't already. Machete: I don't think they are glorifying being monay but just making a point about exclusion within the panth. Having spoken to them I know they have the most respect for upstanding brave bana wearing Sikhs. I think the tune has a number of messages i.e. exclusion, lack of unity weakening Sikhs, importance of family but also they touch on the very contentious issue of Sikh children who are raised in broken homes. Thisis something that is not uncommon but hardly acknowledged by the community. Sadly most of us have witnessed the effects of alcohol abuse on some Sikh families and I think a bit of the tune was directed at those who have endured such situations.
  24. I heard the Institute of Sikh Studies (IOSS) in Chandigarh recently published an English translation based on the Bhai Vir Singh edited edition. Can anyone in Punjab confirm this?
