Past Life Karms

Hi

I wont say i am new to sikhi ,say i have been doing path etc for last 2-3 years.I learned punjabi on my own . So when i started doing path of various banis , they were bit alien to me as i could read punjabi but since it was not the language in which i thought or communicated.

I mean to say that since like i didnot grow up speaking punjabi, just the fact i can read punjabi doesnt make me have great vocab as result i have yet to fully complete some of the banis. Reason is that i need to know the meaning of each line .

Simply speaking my knowledge of gurbani is limited.

I want to know is it possible that situation in your present life life karam of your previous life.I remember watching sant maskeen ji's daily program. He once said ( i dont remember exact words but mine are more or less similar) something about sanskar. Concept was ( for example) if i in last life i happend to be a man who was very found of sex and liqour but say some how i started getting involved towards gurbani. My values start changing but not totally and i die. I am born again in this current life. Maskeen Ji said i would continue my spiritual journey from the same point i.e. of a person who was on the path towards evolving yet had some wrong habits say of sex and drinking.

So as per Maskeen ji in this life based on my past sanskar and karam . In this life i would be a person who is already spiritually awake yet has fondness for sex and drinking. What i do in this life will affect my future. So in this life if i am able to over come my fondness for sex but not drinking than in next life i would be born as a person who will be spiritually awake but have a weakness for drinking.

Is this right?

Reason i am asking everyone is because first of all i have not read all banis and SGGS( even if i have i am not yet capable of understanding the real meaning).

Secondly it is my belief whatever question we as humans have , all answers lie in SGGS and it is for us to search and understand.

Thirdly i think SGGS is one of the greatest source of knowledge and has been written inh such a way that we as humans donot need help of any other human being to find answers our problems. I dont mean we donot need sadh sangat, yes we need but SGGS is written a way that if some how we donot have sadh sangat yet our spiritual needs are answered. Sadh Sangat as stated in SGGS is as result one’s good bhag or destiny. I have noticed generally that when sangat comes in contact of highly spiritual person they tend appreciate that person a lot. It is good but they tend over do it so much that they are always appreciating that person, Sant ji great , Baba ji is great . They tend to forget that Babaji or Sant ji no matter how great is there for us to appreciate SGGS and not other way round.

Simply point is that SGGS is the key and sadh sangat is way to appreciate it, know more about it but in end all your answers are in SGGS.

Sorry if I have said something that has hurt anyone.

Maskeen jee also said that your karams stick to your soul as sanskaars, and then after one is dead, the soul searches for the womb of a mother who has similar sanskaars. He did say that you can tackle this sanskaar problem with naam simran and Gurbani paath. It is true that sanskaars don't leave you easily, but what isn't possible by naam simran and Gurbani? So have faith and keep going :TH:

    • Definitely the Guru Sahibs would be a heavier Scriptures to handle. Dasam Granth is more towards Bir Rass, Guru Gobind Singh showed his Greatness (of course, they would never say this) by separating his own Baania.  And the BIGGEST test of all?? Do we try and read Dasam Granth, Understand n show respect like we do to SGGS? Or... Do we QUESTION it? Guru Gobind Singh Ji is testing us.
    • My wife will be going for an MRI scan next week but her Kara won’t physically come off.  Is there any way the mri scan can be done with the Kara still on?  The alternative is we will have to try to saw it off before the scan.
    • was researching this and came back to this thread. Also found an older thread:
    • Net pay after taxes. If you don't agree, think about this: If you were a trader and started off in China with silk that cost 100 rupees and came to India, and you had to pay total 800 rupees taxes at every small kingdom along the way, and then sold your goods for 1000 rupees, you'd have 100 rupees left, right? If your daswandh is on the gross, that's 100 rupees, meaning you have nothing left. Obviously, you owe only 10% of 100, not 10% of 1000. No, it's 10% before bills and other expenses. These expenses are not your expenses to earn money. They are consumption. If you are a business owner, you take out all expenses, including rent, shop electricity, cost of goods sold, advertising, and government taxes. Whatever is left is your profit and you owe 10% of that.  If you are an employee, you are also entitled to deduct the cost of earning money. That would be government taxes. Everything else is consumption.
    • No, bro, it's simply not true that no one talks about Simran. Where did you hear that? Swingdon? The entire Sikh world talks about doing Simran, whether it's Maskeen ji, Giani Pinderpal Singh, Giani Kulwant Singh Jawaddi, or Sants. So what are you talking about? Agreed. Agreed. Well, if every bani were exactly the same, then why would Guru ji even write anything after writing Japji Sahib? We should all enjoy all the banis. No, Gurbani tells you to do Simran, but it's not just "the manual". Gurbani itself also has cleansing powers. I'm not saying not to do Simran. Do it. But Gurbani is not merely "the manual". Reading and singing Gurbani is spiritually helpful: ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਭਾਖਿਆ ॥  ਗਾਵਹੁ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਪੜਹੁ ਨਿਤ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੈ ਤੂ ਰਾਖਿਆ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ The Lord's Bani and the words are the best utterances. Ever sing hear and recite them, O brother and the Perfect Guru shall save thee. Pause. p611 Here Guru ji shows the importance of both Bani and Naam: ਆਇਓ ਸੁਨਨ ਪੜਨ ਕਉ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਲਗਹਿ ਅਨ ਲਾਲਚਿ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਰਾਣੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ The mortal has come to hear and utter Bani. Forgetting the Name thou attached thyself to other desires. Vain is thy life, O mortal. Pause. p1219 Are there any house manuals that say to read and sing the house manual?
