Some people love to have a clean Windows Desktop. But what botheres them is not being able to get rid of the Recycle Bin icon on the Deskop. In this tutorial, I am going to show you how to get rid off it!

I know of two methods to remove recycle bin from the desktop.

FIRST METHOD: REGISTRY EDITING.

First you need to start up the registry editor.

To do this, you can either click on:

Start > Run

Which brings up the Run Dialog box, or you could simply use the shortcut keys on your keyboard:

Now we should have our Run Dialog Box open:

Type in:

regedit

as shown in the picture above.

Navigate to by collapsing the directory list, I.E pressing the "+" before the folder name:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Destkop\NameSpace\

You should have something like this below:

Right-click on :

and click:

Delete

.

You should have something like this now:

And that's it! You can close the Registry now and the icon should have been removed. If not, a simple restart or log-off should solve it.

SECOND METHOD: Click click click!

First you need to start up the registry editor.

To do this, you can either click on:

Start > Run

Which brings up the Run Dialog box, or you could simply use the shortcut keys on your keyboard:

Now we should have our Run Dialog Box open:

Type in:

gpedit.msc

as shown in the picture above.

You should be presented with a GUI.

Collapse "User Configuration" by clicking the "+" then click on "Desktop". Do not collapse "Desktop"

You should see something similar to this:

Double-Click on "Remove Recycle Bin icon from Desktop"

A new window should pop-up as shown below:

Click on "Enabled" and then click on "Apply > OK or OK directly"

You can now delete the Recycle Bin icon from your desktop by highlighting it and pressing the "Delete" button on your keyboard.

Et Voila! Recycle Bin is no longer in your way! ^.^

Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa!

Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!

oooorrrrr you COULD just:

In winXP: right click desktop, and click properties, go to the Desktop tab, and deselect the Recycle Bin Icon from there

IN winVista: right click desktop, click "personalize"... on the left there is a link for "change desktop icons" and select/deselect whatever you want

hahah

In winXP: right click desktop, and click properties, go to the Desktop tab, and deselect the Recycle Bin Icon from there

This is not avaible in Windows XP. Only for:

  • My Computer
  • My Documents
  • My Network Places
  • Internet Explorer

The above can be removed from the desktop by:

Right-clicking on your desktop > Properties option > Desktop Tab > Customize Desktop button.

There is no ability to remove the Recycle Bin icon from the way you have mentioned.

IN winVista: right click desktop, click "personalize"... on the left there is a link for "change desktop icons" and select/deselect whatever you want

Vista, it's even easier. Just Right-click your Recycle Bin icon and click on delete.

Works like a charm.
