Nov. 24, 1675 - When True Love Saved A Religion‏

In 1675, the Kashmiri Brahmins went to the holy place of Amarnath in Kashmir. India was facing the tyranny of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb who was bent on establishing only one religion, Islam, all over India. They begged and prayed to Lord Shiva to save them in this hour of trouble. It is said that Lord Shiva appeared to one of the Brahmins in his dream and asked them to go to Anandpur Sahib in Punjab, where the ninth Master of the Sikhs, Guru Tegh Bahadur Jee was residing on the holy throne of Guru Nanak Dev Jee. The Kashmiri Brahmins reached there and begged Gurujee for help. As history has it, Guru Tegh Bahadur Jee sacrificed His life to save the Hindu religion, a religion totally different to His own, a religion which followed certain practices His religion didn't even agree with. Yet His sacrifice was complete and unparallel. It was out of love and only love that Gurujee made the supreme sacrifice. He gave away His life to save Hinduism from the clutches of tyranny. He didn't ask a single Hindu to embrace Sikhism as a token of gratitude. Not a single thing was demanded in return, rather three of His own beloved Sikhs drank the ambrosia of martyrdom even before Him.

Bhai Mati Das was sawn into two, Bhai Sati Das was burnt alive, and Bhai Dyala was roasted alive in boiling water. None of them expected anything in return, whether it was in their lifetime or after their death. They didn't ask for, or expect anything for their families once they were gone. Out of pure unconditional love for their Guru, they happily gave up their lives, and suffered the worst possible tortures with a smile.

Guru Gobind Singh Jee, who was the tenth and last living Master of the Sikhs, was the son of Guru Tegh Bahadur Jee. Such was the pure and true love of Guru Tegh Bahadur Jee and Guru Gobind Singh Jee!

It all happened on this day, Nov. 24, in the year 1675, when Guru Tegh Bahadur Jee, for His love for humanity, for His love for freedom of practicing religion for Hindus, sacrificed His life.

This poem is for few of those Hindus who have completely forgotten the unparallel sacrifice of Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib. It is unfortunate that some even reject this valuable historic event and propose false claims that Gurujee was a Hindu Himself.

For you He left His family, His son, His wife

For you He didn't hesitate to sacrifice His life

For you He courted arrest, and suffered all tortures

To fill your life with the roses of happiness, and joy filled orchards

For you He saw His Sikhs sawn and boiled

The hands of the Mughals with blood were soiled

For you He refused all pleasures and comforts

And accepted the pains that can shake all hearts

For you He rejected proposals of wealth

So that your generations could thrive in health

For you He sacrificed His body and His head

So that you could live fearlessly and earn your bread

Have you forgotten all He has done

His people you made the object of fun

Have you forgotten the legacy of His martyrdom

that to the oppression of His people you act deaf and dumb?

Have you forgotten His sacrifice, oh so complete!

That today His message for you has become totally obsolete!

Have you forgotten that He is your saviour

Or the Mughals would do to you what else but devour

Forget not the One who saved you

Protected your honor and carried you through

Forget not the One who took all the pains

Death for Himself, for you all the gains

Forget not the One who had His head severed

Today His people are mocked by you, instead of being revered

Wake up my dear, before its too late

Your silence and indifference is ruining your own fate

Wake up my dear, or you will pay a cost

Hatred will fume and all love will be lost

Wake up my dear, and recognize this fact

What He did for you was an ultimate act!

Wake up my dear, wake up and bow down

Bow down to the Master of Sikhs, the Sikhs whom you labeled a clown

Wake up my dear, and say after me

Say with your heart and you will be free

Dhann Guru Teg Bahadur, tu Hind di chaddar

Tu hi sadda sacha patshah tu hi sadda rehbar

WE MUST GO NOW TO DEHLI TO PUT THE OPRESSED OUT OF THEIR GRIEFWE WILL SHOW THEM ONCE AGIN AS GURU ARJUN DEV JI DID BEFORE

THAT NOONE CAN MOVE THOSE WHO LAY AT THE SHELTER OF GOD'S DOOR

AND SO GURU JI WENT TO DEHLI IN A CALM PEACEFUL STATE

HE WALKED TOWARDS HIS GLORIOUS FATE

DEATH WAS DRAWING NEAR BUT GURU JI WAS TO WRAPPED UP IN GOD TO NOTICE

LIFE AND DEATH WERE ONE TO HIM HE ROSE ABOVE THE WORLD LIKE A GLORIOUS LOTUS

ALL OF CHANDNI CHAUK SHOOK TO SEE SUCH IMMORTAL MITE

EVEN THE MOST LEARNED OF SCHOLARS WERE PERPLEXED AT THE SITE

NOWHERE ELSE IN HISTORY HAS IT EVER BEEN KNOWN

TO SACRIFICE YOUR SELF FOR A RELIGION THAT WASN'T YOU OWN

WHEN TYPE OF SOUL DOES IT TAKE TO SACRIFICE THEMSELVES FOR UNIVERSAL WELFARE

WELL WE SENT THE HOLIEST ONE THE GURU ; WHEN INJUSTICE STRIKES HE WILL ALWAYS BE THERE

Little Do They Know, The Sakhis of Truth,

Instead of Praising the Guru Great, They Remain Mute,

The Mugals Came, With Evil and Hatred, To Kill, Rape and Loot,

Stood Up The Greatest Guru Tegh Bahadur, Under Whose Shelter All Find Love.

Guru Tegh Bahadur is The Epitome of Peace,

Though He Embodied The Bir Ras, During Dharam Yudh, He Unleashed,

Bahadur With the Tegh, And the Jyot of Truth Within,

The Greatest Guru of All, The Creator Always With Him!

Came the Kasmiris, and They Asked for Help,

In Front of Guru Tegh Bahadur, In Humility, They Knelt,

From Guru Tegh Bahadur, No Enmity Whatsoever, They Felt,

Guru Tegh Bahadur, Took Care of Even Those, Whom Did Not Adhere to Sikh Dharma.

All Humanity is One, and I will Sacrifice For You,

Though My Sikhs Will Never, Follow the Ways of The Mullahs nor Hindu,

Distinct, The Sikh, Will Be, Forever and Ever,

Sacrificing Their Bodies, For Them, No Big Endeavor,

For Within The True Sikh, Will Shine The Creator Himself.

Oh The Dear Relatives, Friends and Sometimes Foe,

They Mock the Sikhs, But Their Greatness They Do Not Know,

They Should Forever, Forever Be Humbled by Tegh Bahadur Guru,

Though He Never Followed the Way of the Hindu, He Sacrificed Himself, for The Hindu Too.

If it Wasn't for The Great Guru Tegh Bahadur,

Oh Dear Lovely Friends, Sharma and Kumar Ji,

Today All in Hindustan would Be Circumsized, and Their Women Veiled,

Salaam They Would be Saying, To the Direction of Mecca, They would be Praying.

Dare Not, Not Now, Not Ever,

Mock the Sikh, In Whose Heart Lives The Love of the True Creator,

For the Khalsa are Real, Mighty and Strong,

It is This Saintly Warrior Breed, Who Will Rise, Even For Them,

If By Tyrants, Even To Them, Done Wrong!!!

Kirpa Ram, Became Kirpa Singh!

A Great Lesson For Them Perhaps, In This, Is Within!!!!!

In Their Hearts, They Should Praise Guru Tegh Bahadur With Love,

If It was Not for HIM! Today, The Mullahs, Kazis, to Them and Their Women,

Would Still Shove!

ਤਿਲਕ ਜੰਵੂ ਰਾਖਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤਾ ਕਾ ॥ ਕੀਨੋ ਬਡੋ ਕਲੂ ਮਹਿ ਸਾਕਾ ॥

Tilak janjhoo raakhaa Prabh taa kaa|| Koono bado kaloo maih saakaa|

|He protected the forehead mark and sacred thread (of the Hindus)

which marked a great event in the Iron age.  

ਸਾਧਨ ਹੇਤਿ ਇਤੀ ਜਿਨਿ ਕਰੀ ॥ ਸੀਸੁ ਦੀਆ ਪਰ ਸੀ ਨ ਉਚਰੀ ॥੧੩॥

Saadhan het(i) itoo jin(i) daroo|| Soos(u) dooaa par soo na ucdaroo||13||

For the sake of saints, he laid down his head without even a sign.13

   ਧਰਮ ਹੇਤਿ ਸਾਕਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਆ ॥ ਸੀਸੁ ਦੀਆ ਪਰ ਸਿਰਰੁ ਨ ਦੀਆ ॥

Dharam het(i) saakaa jin kooaa|| Soos(u) dooaa par sirar(u) na dooaa||

For the sake of Dharma, he sacrificed himself. He laid down his head

but not his creed.

   ਨਾਟਕ ਚੇਟਕ ਕੀਏ ਕੁਕਾਜਾ ॥ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਲੋਗਨ ਕਹ ਆਵਤ ਲਾਜਾ ॥੧੪॥

Naatak chetak kooe kukaajaa|| Prabh logad kah aavat laajaa||14||

The saints of the Lord abhor the performance of miracles and malpractices. 14.

   ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥ Dohraa||DOHRAPage

  ਠੀਕਰਿ ਫੋਰਿ ਦਿਲੀਸਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀਯਾ ਪਯਾਨ ॥

thookar(i) phor(i) Diloos(i) sir(i) Prabh pur kooyaa payaan||

Breaking the potsherd of his body head of the king of Delhi (Aurangzeb),

He left for the abode of the Lord.

   ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਸੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਆ ਕਰੀ ਨ ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਆਨ ॥੧੫॥

Teg Bahaadur soo kriaa daroo na koon-hoon aan||15||

None could perform such a feat as that of Tegh Bahadur.15.

   ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਕੇ ਚਲਤ ਭਯੋ ਜਗਤ ਕੋ ਸੋਕ ॥

Teg Bahaadur ke chalet bhayo jagad ko sok||

The whole world bemoaned the departure of Tegh Bahadur.

  ਹੈ ਹੈ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਜਗ ਭਯੋ ਜੈ ਜੈ ਜੈ ਸੁਰ ਲੋਕ ॥੧੬॥

Hai hai hai sabh jag bhayo jai jai jai sur lok||16||

Whit the world Iamented, the gods hailed his arrival in heavens.16.
