The events of 5th December 2009 have once again sent shock waves amongst Sikhs across the globe; Once again, it is evident that Sikhs are regarded as second-class citizens in India. Being shot at and trampled upon by Punjab police and the thugs of the Indian state. Sikhs have once again been brutally beaten and murdered for protesting against those inciting religious hatred and insulting the core of our Sikh beliefs. This cold-blooded murder of the innocent Sikhs has bought back memories of 1978 and 1984. Khalsa Aid is deeply disappointed and saddened that the Punjab government headed by a 'Sikh' has played a part in allowing the Ashutosh followers to hold a program in the heart of Punjab knowing that this will be offensive to the Sikhs.

Saturday 12th December 2009 6-10pm

As a humanitarian aid agency, Khalsa Aid has always endeavoured to help those in need, in disaster-hit areas or those that have been left devastated by conflict. Now we will also be focusing on supporting our brethren in Punjab and the families of those Shaheeds who have been robbed of their lives because they dared to stand up for our rights. We must not make the same mistakes as 1984 and leave the families of these Shaheed Sikhs to suffer in poverty.

We urge all Sikhs regardless of their 'jathabandi' to unite at this time and work together to support those that are in need. We are in a position to help and must not let our differences stand in the way of providing support where it is most needed to our brothers, sisters and our future in Punjab; the young children. The tactics that are being used to divide and destroy our identity are well documented. Khalsa Aid and Ramgharia Gurdawara Slough are facilitating an evening of reflection and an opportunity for all to unite and share our thoughts and explore how we as Sikhs can unite and support all initiatives that are currently underway by all 'Jathbandis' so that we can work effectively as a united force against the multi-factorial attacks on Sikhi and our beloved Panjab.
