One Lump Or Two?

Freshly made sticky Gudh (toffee like sugar) had fallen on the road. Two flies came along lured by the sweet fragrance. One fly sat on top of the lump whilst the other sat on the side. They both began licking away and enjoying the sweet taste. They both saw a vehicle approaching. The fly on the side swiftly flew away fearing for it's life. The second fly wanted to fly away but became stuck in the warm Gudh as it solidified. The tyre of the vehicle rolled over the Gudh and ended the life of the fly.

When we sit on top of the Gudh of comforts such as relationships , work ,relatives etc. we are ultimately crushed the tyre of pain , sorrow , heartache , tensions etc.

The wise flies of this world sit on the side of the Gudh of comforts whilst focusing primarily on Gurbani/Naam Simran. When the tyre of heartache approaches they swiftly fly away in the knowledge that we are only here on this earth for a very short time. Our spouse , children , relatives , friends , and family are all like the passengers we meet at airports , train stations etc. We know that we/they will depart at our/their station and as such we do not become too attached.

ਫਰੀਦਾ ਸਕਰ ਖੰਡੁ ਨਿਵਾਤ ਗੁੜੁ ਮਾਖਿਓ‍ੁ ਮਾਂਝਾ ਦੁਧੁ ॥

fareedhaa sakar khandd nivaath gurr maakhio maanjhaa dhudhh ||

Fareed: sugar cane, candy, sugar, molasses, honey and buffalo's milk

ਸਭੇ ਵਸਤੂ ਮਿਠੀਆਂ ਰਬ ਨ ਪੁਜਨਿ ਤੁਧੁ ॥੨੭॥

sabhae vasathoo mitheeaaan rab n pujan thudhh ||27||

- all these things are sweet, but they are not equal to You. ||27||
