Tracking Gurudwara Sahibs around the World

With each passing year the world becomes smaller and smaller as you can find Sikh in almost all corners of the world. You can find them but it is so hard to connect with them. We are so busy with our personal lives and work lives, that we could be living next door to great sikh sangat and we don't even know it. In most cases we meet Sikhs in Gurudwara Sahibs and that is where we do meet Sikh sangat and Guru Granth Sahib Ji. This project that SikhSangat is about to undertake is to connect the Sangat to the Gurudwara Sahibs around the world. There lists of Gurudwara Sahibs online but with this project we hope to take things one step further. We are creating a more detailed list of the Gurudwara Sahibs around the world which will include amount of Chardi Kala Sikhs, special programs and any reports of anti-sikh activities.

For parents and for people just getting into Sikhi, it is very important to be around chardi kala Sikhs, so they can grow as Sikhs. Through this list we will try to address how much of the sangat that attend the Gurudwara Sahib regularly are Amritdhari Sikhs. The reason for doing this is not to point out weak spots in our community or to say one person is better than another. But to give everyone a equal opportunity to be able to move to an area where they can teach their children about Khalsa and Sikhs and be able to point out real life examples. Another positive about being around chardi kala Sikhs it is easier to hold Sikhi related programs.

As demand grows Gurudwara Sahibs around the world are holding special Sikhi related programs to fulfill the needs of the Sangat. These programs range from Sikhi camps to Punjabi classes to classes specially for learning how to read and pronounce gurbani to medical clinics. This section of the individual reports on the Gurudwara sahib will focus on all the positive programs that are regularly held at the Gurudwara Sahib. It will make the sangat aware and possible encourage them to get involved. Getting involved with these activities not only keeps you in good sangat, it helps you grow as a Sikh. A positive activity at a Gurudwara Sahib helps bring people to Sikhi but what about the negative?

Guru Hargobind Ji introduced Sikhs to the concept of Miri and Piri, so that we can deal with any problems that should come up. This section will focus on any issues the sangat reports and have been confirmed with the Gurudwara Committee or have been reported by multiple Sikhs or backed by evidence. In reports of disrespect of Guru Granth Sahib Ji, meat served as langar, attached party halls serving alcohol or other serious problems will be listed. The hope is to insure sangat has a chance to know what is going on around the world and can choose to support the Gurudwara Committee, avoid it or raise their voice. Sikh Sangat will be armed with knowledge of what is going on in their communities. Sikhs never have been and hopefully never will be afraid of dealing with issues within their own communities. Sikhism is a brotherhood/sisterhood of people that follow the same religion and love each other like their own kin.

This detailed list will help Sikhs around the world become closer and grow as a community, as a family. So we encourage all Sikhs to email us at fromthese5tothose5@hotmail.com to add your Gurudwara Sahib to our list. Without the support of our Sikh family around the world this project will not be possible, so please do email. Once we have a few to Gurudwara Sahibs to begin the list, the section of Sikhsangat will be launched.

    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji, I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken. To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled. They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop. I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking. This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length. Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
