There was once a little girl. She had no name, she wasn’t important enough for that. She was alright to look at, not startlingly anything really. Plain. But inside she wasn’t alright. She lived a deep, dark secret that no-one else knew about. Until now. Sometimes she felt like other people. She played and laughed and sang and the deep, darkness in her was contained. But then at other times she sang and laughed and played but it was an act. A cruel act. For when she went away, went home, went on her own the demons came and ate her up. Outwardly there was no sign other than two bright lines on her arm. She looked like a normal person, she spoke like a normal person, she e…

If 'Silence' was about Sikhi what would you do?
by Guest FilmWatcher- 3 replies

I've just watched a film called 'Silence' directed by Martin Scorsese. It's set in sixteenth century Japan when Christianity was outlawed and people were killed if they were found to have converted. There is a scene in the film where several Japanese converts have denied their faith but are still being horrifically tortured. The Portuguese priest can stop the torture ( and their likely death) if he denounces Jesus Christ. If he gives up his faith he cannot return to it as the Japanese will force him to sign statements and desecrate icons each year to prove he is no longer Christian. If he wants to keep his faith he is forced to watch and hear his congregation suffer…

Accidentally removed hair, I didn't know it was hair on my fore head as I thought it was blacks heads, but when I took it out I realised it was hair. Would I have to go for peshi or should I just do ardass? I wouldn't have poped the hair if had known it was hair.

Sangat ji I used to trim hairs before but came to canada 3 yrs back and with sangat if si gh friends, i stopped trimming hairs, nd started reading gurbani also. Some singh friends told to be a amritdhari but i said i will first remember all 5 banis nd will increase my nitnem to 2.5 hrs a day minimum, nd when i will go back then i will become an amritdhari. So they told me to practice rehat first, as some singh friends alao used to practice. So i dis an ardass to guru sahib and started wearing all kakaars including kirpan, it was now about almost two years. I do 5 bania nitnem everyday without missing a single day, sometime two nitnems or three. When i m nit on job, …

waheguru jio I'm female who has taken amrit recently and feel very fortunate to have done so. Before I was amritdhari, I used to remove some facial hair and was always complemented for my clear/glowing skin. In no means do I want to remove any hair, but instead want to know how I can look after my face without removing hair but make sure my face is still glowing that any hair on my face is neat for example, how to i look after unplucked eyebrow hair .. I've stopped bleaching my upperlip after a few months of amrit and that has changed my face a little too. My main motive is to look presentable as a mid aged sikh woman without drifting away from my si…

Our dharam is being attacked by buddist and atheist chamars. Use below is talking crap which is disheartning and pathetic. We need to do something about this use. I do't know what to do. Maybe Sarpanch and others know what to do in this situation. http://www.youtube.com/user/GOBINDSINGHGANDO

Taking food to share at langar
by Guest School Teacher- 4 replies

Having taken my class of children to visit a local gurdwara and wishing myself to learn more about your faith, I would like to attend on a Sunday at the lovely gurdwara we visited. My question: would it be acceptable for me to contribute my own cake/dish to be shared at langar? This would be home-cooked (and with many home-grown ingredients). It would be prepared out of the respect and thanks I have for the wonderful sikh community which welcomed us so freely and lovingly, while providing such a rich educational experience to us all; adults and children alike; when we visited the gurdwara. Many thanks for reading this message and hopefully giving me guidance!

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa. Waheguru Ji Ke Fateh. I am interested in learning about all the Singhs and the events that occurred from 1978 13 Singh's becoming Shaheed to the end of the Khakru Era. Anyone know where I can get this info with a lot of details? Also I heard there is a book out there as well that has pictures of all the Singh that became Shaheed during this time period with their biography on it. I've searched everywhere online but have not been able to find anything. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thank you
