Well, the main reason is that you shouldn't be walking above Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji maharaj, SGGSJ deserves the utmost respect and the highest seat of authority. You never see SGGSJ's parkash in the langar hall, always on the upper floor. SGGSJ should be the main focus of the house itself, because when SGGSJ's parkash is in your home, that is Gurughar. Therefore Guruji shouldn't be in the basement hidden someplace, and you go to your Guru to pray or when you need to, but should have an open parkash, where you see your Guru everyday and pay your obesience<-- i think that's the right word! Also I heard from a sakhi that when you have SGGSJ's parkash in your home, you have 15-20 Singhz guarding your house. No bad thing can even come near your house, and that house is alwayz in bliss!!! WAHEGUROOOOOOOO!!! I hope I get Guru's bakshash to lay their feet in my future home as well!!! Bhul chuk maaf karnee ji!! vwihgurU jI kw Kwlsw! vwihgurU jI kI &iqh!!

You shouldn't keep SGGSJ downstairs PERIOD!!! Give up your room upstairs, but never put Guru ji in the bottom room, its major major PAAP!! :D

At my house we got pothis of SGGS with arth and sakhi, I beleive that's the best way to learn from your Guru, and also giving it the same respect. This raises another question, should you keep the pothis in a closet (is it ok?) or have the pothis on a daybed/high seat of some sort, obviously clean sheets, and decorated because its still Gurbani. You got it MKhalsa ji!! The sakhi is true, and also Guru Arjan dev ji cleaning the sangat's joray is true as well, so how can you say its not necessary?? I understand you shouldn't go around touching people's feet, but you should have the humbleness to touch a sant's feet, or a gurmukh's feet, whenever I meet my Singhs I go for their feet, and since they are sooo humble they stop me and come for mine! lol, funny how that works!! :D :nihungsmile:

You shouldn't touch anyone's feet just because they are older than you, one may be older than you, but if they got no knowledge of Sikhi, or love the almighty they are worthless, "Without the Lord's Name, life is worthless. Through doubt, the people are being destroyed." SGGS "They do not understand the essence of reality, and they gather their worthless bundles of straw. ||2||" SGGS They say with age comes wisdom, but if that person didn't recite gurbani, did sewa, or simran, they have wasted their precious jeevan, show them respect by giving them love, talking nice to them, but don't touch their feet!!!!!!!
