  1. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! You can send a direct e-mail to them from this web link. It's as easy as that!!!
  2. Nice one Sher Punjabi! Although the MP might be busy with the local election today, I still think it's a good idea to fill him in. Speaking to the Sheffield Gurdwara Sahib is good idea. They need to take ownership of the issue as it's local to them. Maybe the good punjabi speakers can call them up on 0114 242 0108. Fateh!
  3. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! I am sure the Campaign are doing what they can to resolve the situation but the Sangats input into this is the ultimate decison maker. I have just checked the website, the Magna Arena can be hired for large corporate events, christmas parties etc. There is a 150 seater restaurant and bar on site. The complex is based in Rottherham in South Yorkshire, I think the nearest Gurdwara Sahib is in Scunthorpe? Check their webiste out http://www.visitmagna.co.uk/index.html Their e-mail address is events@magnatrust.co.uk Spoke to a lady who has confirmed that they have been made aware that the "Sikh HOLY SCRIPTUREs" are being brought to their premises where alcohol, meat and tabacco are served and that it is offensive to Sikhs. She is passing on comments to the management but at this stage can't comment on anything. Looks like we need to start calling up. 01709 723118. The more people who call the more they will realise how offended Sikhs are. Didn't get the lady's name. Anyone got a name in Management we can ask for directly?
  4. They didn't happen to be the wives and sisters of the Organisers did they? No if truth be told it was their sons who happen to be eunuchs. They wheel them out every year to collect vadiya. Even more Cheeky!! Hope someone is communicating this feedback back to the Prabhandicks!!
  5. So the Sikhi just stayed in the tent then? Did these young dancers enter the "Sikh Tent"??
  6. They didn't happen to be the wives and sisters of the Organisers did they? Cheeky Cheeky! Careful or you'll have the kabadi boys in their chuddies after you!
  7. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! Contact KATHERINE - BANQUETING MANAGER Thistle Hotel London on 020 7423 8853. She seems like a reasonable lady, she's aware of the issue but says she can't do anything as they have a contractual agreement with Kanchans. Please keep the pressure up!! 8. Kandola, the criticism of your homer icon is bang on. And beyond that is totally relevant to this very thread. Here is a repost of my response to your query at the time. I invite any one of your 36 cheerleaders to address the post below. I have repeatedly complement the work of sevadhars on this site. However, I am baffled that this site would permit the Simpson caricature of guruji's sikh. ------------------------- Context If a known racist drew the same thing it would be offensive. Or if it was a drawing that was done as part of a script in a bollywood movie, we would be protesting. On the other hand, if we are amongst a group of close friends in private and one of them does it who is a khalsa who has a far-fetched sense of humor who we know has fought valiantly for the utmost respect for dastar and dhari, we may be a bit more forgiving. Now Kandola, you are bold enough to ask, so here is my opinion. I do not claim sikhi. I fall short of beautiful sikhs who follow rehat,… HOWEVER taking into account that 1. it is not uncommon to mock a visible minority for their appearance; 2. the creator is someone says he is mona and in that state self-servingly argues on other threads that sikhi roop is less important “than the inside”, -- in essence saying you are more important than sikhi itself (kandola this is about respecting sikhi, you specifically are not the concern of this comment, besides you are likely more of a sikh than I)---- 3. this forum is accessible by virtually the entire world who do not know you or have a clue about why you have this --- 4. humor is not culturally universal and regardless a large part of sikh culture would not see humor in putting a dastar and dhari on a joker----- 5. certain offensive concepts are so well understood that they have been boiled down to single words such as “defile” and “deface” because of at least these reasons the avatar is offensive. It seems that you are open to learning. Your humility right at the outset is impressive. I may have at some point noticed that it was homer and at that point maybe even commented on it on the forum, however over time I glossed over this till someone asked again more recently. I find far too many sikhs try to assure that they are not labeled as fanatics and fail to stand up for sikhi. To the ones who find it funny, ----discipline, reflection, self-respect. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! What's the point of the Homer Simpson character with a fake dastar and dara allegedlly portraying a Sikh. I don't understand what it's meant to represent. They say a picture says a thousand words (or something like that) so it is everyones responsibility to ensure they realise what their avatars/pictures are actually portraying. Homer Simpson's not much of a human role model, he's considered to be a fool really. Maybe he's character most of us associate with Sikhs, I don't know. But really what's the point of saying this Piddu character's an issue when we ourselves mock our own image. Why not portray a positive image of Sikhs with pictures of saheeds and mahapurshs as a pose to cartoon characters with dastaars doodled on their heads!!
  9. What this all about? He signs his names as this: Chaudhry Rajinder Nijjhar, M.Sc. Younger Brother of Jesus, the first anointed Christ and of Nanak, the second anointed Christ(Satguru), Retired Senior Lecturer in Metallurgy. A Jat of the United Panjab  .
  10. http://www.likhari.org/xmas2.htm According to this website link above he's from Reading. I wonder what the local Gurdwaras think of him? Never seen him on stage in that area. http://www.calebproject.org/userfiles/SikhPG.pdf Also read the above flyer produced by a Christian Missionary...
  11. http://www.tapoban.org/phorum/read.php?f=1&i=80501&t=80501 Author: Panthic News Date: 04-26-06 14:15 http://www.calebproject.org/userfiles/SikhPG.pdf Christian Missionaries are doing their fundamentalist Parchaar in Panjab. Sikhs are ignorant of Gurmat, have little connection with the Shabd Guru, economic crisis for Sikh farmers, growing drug problems, alcoholism, domestic violence and rife female infanticide.... these problems have led Sikhs VULNERABLE to anyone and everyone who offers them (false) HOPE and (supposed) LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL, whether it be the fake Sant dressed in white, the Christian missionary with a deceptive smile or Peer/ Babas who offer quick solutions in black-magic, praying to idols and wearing threads etc. Related articles on this issue: * Sikh and Destroy * News: Conversion of Sikhs into Christianity in Punjab * Lions, Princesses and Gurus: Reaching Your Sikh Neighbour Notice to UK Singhs: There is Panjabi Sikh man who is a Christian convert. He is Sikh guise (i.e. he wears a Dastaar and is in Sikhi Saroop), however is a Christian missionary who targets Panjabi Sikhs livin in UK to convert through twisting Gurmat to justify Jesus as Satguru and saying that Guru Nanak was the "Avtar" of the "True Guru" who apparently to this Pakhandi was Jesus. This man operates in hospitals and other public institutions to spread his poison coated in sugar, and also spreads his RIDICULOUS Parchaar on the Internet. In the 80s him and his other Panjabi convert friends offered Sikh parents FREE baby-sitting services. People didn't realise that these Christian missionaries in Sikh dress were attempting to brainwash Sikh kids with ideas such as "Jesus is the True Guru". Eventually people found out and removed their children from these people's child care. You can read more about him and his "CHRISTIAN-SIKH" views on the link below: http://www.likhari.org/xmas2.htm ***LET'S DISCUSS*** Khalsa Jee, let's discuss POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS and how we as (i) INDIVIDUALS, (ii) as a LOCAL SANGAT, and (iii) as a PANTH we can tackle this issue. Guru Rakha.
  12. Is the teacher a Namdhari? If so, then you might as well accept the fact that he will only believe in his guru. Simple solution, don't learn off him if it's affecting your Sikhi. There are GurSikh teachers out there. Advise others of the situation and let them make their own decision. If they still want to learnt a Gurmant activity from this person then they are just lame.
  13. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! Is this Granthi from Guru Nanak Cultural & Recreational Centre, Preston? Please can the original poster confim this? Fateh!
  14. Good way of looking at it... We still have many experiences of life to go through!!
  15. WHAT ABOUT ALL THE ADVERTISING ON ALL THE STALLS ETC so its alright for the singhs to wear all these t shirts with ak47s in the shape of half a khanda worn by singhs is that about khalsa?? 161142[/snapback] Veerji, Same goes for the advertising. I can't comment on the t-shirts as I didn't see them, but I do know that more thought needs to go into what is being put on t-shirts and what message is being portrayed. Certainly does not sound very responsible to produce something as described above!!
  16. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! Tell her that if she cuts the kesh of your son then to walk out of the Ardas whenever you ask for "kes daan". Might be harsh, but it's hypocrisy to stand in the Ardas when we are begging for gifts from the Akal Purakh like kesh and then destroying the gifts we begged for. Veerji, it's going to be tough. But I think you need to remain stern about your Sikhi. Bhai Taru's scalp was removed in order for his kesh to remain. Countless people have given kurbani for our kesh. You need to keep emphasising your desire for your son to have a Gursikh upbringing. Maybe speak to your family or your wife's family. ncrease your banis in the morining, ask Guru Ji for help in maintaining the respect for kesh. Fateh!!!!
  17. I wonder if these Bhangra fans would have danced in 1699 in Anandpur Sahib whilst the rest of the Sangat sat and listened to Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj's Bachans! While Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj was preparing Amrit, reciting JapJi Sahib Bani followed by Jap Sahib, Tav Parsaad Swayie Sahib, Benti Chaupi Sahib and Anand Sahib do you really think there were Bhangra dancers present, Dhols Banging, ladies doing Gidha?! Guru Maharaj is still present today, still speaking to us, just as Guru Ji did in 1699, yet today we'd rather dance to 10 mona playing the dhol!
  18. Bhai Nand Lal Singh would have taken Amrit. He was affectionatly called Lal Ji by Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj. In history we have recorded many names incorrectly: Mata Sundari Ji --> Mata Jeeto --> Mata Ajit Kaur Ji Bhai Jeta Ji --> Bhai Jeevan Singh Ji Bhai Nand Lal Ji --> Bhai Nand Lal Singh Ji Baba Ram Kuar Ji --> Baba Gurbakhsh Singh Ji Mado Das --> Baba Banda Singh Bahadur --> Baba Gurbakhsh Singh Ji Mai Bhago --> Mata Bhaag Kaur Ji Mata Gujari --> Mata Gujar Kaur Ji Kavi Sainapat --> Bhai Saina Singh Ji Source Tapoban.org And there are countless other examples. Let nobody have any doubt khande-ke-pahul was and is necessary for all sikhs.
  19. So true, Ekta is the only way forward. The power to change what goes on in our Gurdwara Committees lies in our hands. It's time for the YOUTH to put the differences aside, enter the Gurdwara Committee politics arena and start making changes. This is a prime opportunity to start. The least we can do in East London is become members of the Gurdwara voting list and have some influence within what happens. If we keep quiet than these modern day masands will just keep selling our Sikhi. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!
  20. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! Will you guarantee No naamdhari group or any other anti panthic group will be allowed on stage? Don't mean to have a dig, but when Bhai Sukha Singh came to Gurdwara Karamsar in Ilford there was a jatha of naamdharis on stage too.
  21. Man.... when did we loose the plot? When did Guru Gobind Singh Maharaj tell his Sikhs to pray first then dance the bhangra later on in the day? How come it's so important to cater for the Bhangra fans? Is our Guru Maharaj a mere entertainer then? So the numbers attending the Nagar Kirtan go down if there is no Bhangra....Good!......In 1699 Guru Ji asked for 5 heads, not 1000. If he really wanted 1000 heads should he have done a Bhangra Gig!!!
  22. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! What are you lot digging into the BOSS guys for? Not everyone posses the professional skills of the Sikh Federation UK – Britain’s first political Sikh party. In my view BOSS have done more for Sikhi in todays youth than the Sikh Feds, SIE or any political party has and probably will manage to do. I am sure in time you will get the sought after report you are so keen to scrutinise. GurFateh!! !
