  1. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! There is a diwan on 9th/10th July @ Gravesend. Does anyone know which Gurdwara? Also there will be an Amrit Sanchar this weekend in Gravesend after or before one of the diwans. If anyone has any further details, please can you post it on the forum. Thanks GurFateh!
  2. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! Khalsa Ji, No Granthi was assaulted on Saturday. The Granthi in the passenger seat of a Van handed Guru Ji's Saroop over to us. Guru Ji's saroop was not taken into the hall. This was witnessed by hundreds of wedding guests and Thames Valley Police. We were escorted by the Police to Ramgharia Sikh Gurudwara Sahib with Guru Ji's saroop. There were no arrests and no violent behaviour from any side, The Campaign will release an official statement later today. The Press have printed a number of lies (as usual). GurFateh!
  3. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! A group of 50 Naujawaan from all over London walked into a Committee meeting over 1 month ago to confront the committee about the misuse of Guru Arjan Dev Ji's name, the term Shaheedi, Alcohol consumption, meat, rowdy behaviour, litter and dance groups. Following this meeting the local Naujawaan collected over 200 signatures from local sangat within Goodmayes Singh Sabha in just 2 evenings. On Shaheedi purab (16 June 05) a group of local naujawaan again walked into a committee meeting @ Goodmayes Singh Sabha to confront the Lehmbar Lehal , Sansara Dhailwal, Gurdial Hundal and others about all the beadbi committed by turning a blind eye to the alcohol/smoking and allowing the belly dancers in the name of Guru Arjan Dev Ji's Shaheedi. They had no explanation for the events of the tournament except for passing the buck on to a "sports committee" who are supposedly seperate from the Gurdwara committee, although the "sports committee"are made up of mainly Gurdwara committee members. The committee then proceeded to say that they were not present at the tournament, which is a lie as they were sitting on satge with all the VIP guests. They then said that they did not drink any alcohol which is a lie as Nirmal Gill was drunk at the end of the tournament. The Naujawaan walked out demanding a full resignation of the 21 members of this committee who sat on stage at the tournament whilst all the beadbi took place and lied to the sangat about imposing a full alcohol ban. GurFateh!!!
  4. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! Do you mean Baba Balvinder Singh Nanaksar Kuraliwale. He did kirtan last night at Gurdwara Karamsar Ilford. His Jatha are back down in East London from 25 June to 1 July @ Gurdwara Dasmesh Darbar, Roseberry Avenue, Manor Park, London. I think he will be in various Gurdwaras this week in Kent. GurFateh!

  6. Is this the gurudwara with the party hall?? 103484[/snapback] That's the one. I hope someone informs Babaji about this issue. If he's as blunt as everyone claims then I hope he kicks some <admin-profanity filter activated> in Leeds as the Leeds Sangat really need to get their act together!
  7. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! The phone calls really helped put pressure on the Gurdwara committee. Thanks to everyone that took time out to call up the individual committee members. The Gurdwara committee received calls from outside countries such US, Canada, Singapore and India. Thanks to all the sangat who signed the petition, this also added to the pressure on the committee. At the end of the day we may have not completely received the desired outcome, but the fact that they have implemented some changes after 25 years shows the collective power the Sangat have over the committee. Keep up the pressure!!!! E-mail sikhalerts@yahoo.co.uk with any issues surrounding beadbi in Guru Ghars or visit www.gurugranthsahibji.com. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!
  8. Chapel Town Gurdwara also has a "SIKH" hall next door which allows Sharab/Bhangra & Meat for Punjabi parties. Ramgharia Gurdwara passed the mathaa on Sunday and will now also allow the same as the above. We really need a high profile Sikh to do some serious parchar about these manmat practices in Guru Ghars. We need someone who is blatant. Although I have not met Baba Ranjit Singh, I have heard some of his kathas and his reputation and believe he will speak out against these anti Sikh practices. At this point in time we really need a staunch parcharik to come down to the UK.
  9. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! Take advantage of Babaji's presence. We should approach him regarding the meat/sharab issue in the Gurdwara associated halls. At the end of the day Baba Ranjit Singh is a high profile GurSikh and the Sangat are prepared to listen to him. We tried Vedanti who was a waste of time. I reckon we should get together and speak to Babaji about the UK Gurdwara committee issues.
  10. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! When I took amrit the Punj Pyaray made us finish the amrit afterwards. They said that choola had been made into a "rasam" and should not exist. Amrit was taken by the abhlakis only. There was a man who had come for pesh because he said he was a kurehti yet he hadn't taken amrit, he said he had had choola when he was young. The jathadar of the Punj pyray then said that choola has become a rasam that is being misinturpreted. There is only amrit within the Amrit Sanchar.
  11. This is a standard reply. I just recieved the exact same feedback from BBFC! How can we step it up further? The film comes out tomorrow and I bet most of the audience will be Punjabis. If we went outside a cinema to protest and shouted Jaikaray we would just look like we are promoting the film.
  12. The South Asian world things that people like Sunny Deol are proud Sikhs. Bollywood is once again responsible for the this portrayal to the world. That e-mails a fob off. Reply back saying how a muslim would feel if the title of a film was "Alah Ho Akhbar" or "Mohamed". They would freak.
  13. Ring up the Ramgharia Gurdwara Slough directly. The president's name is Sohan Singh (I think). Just ask them direct and see what they say. Nothing surprises me nowadays. Everyone seems to be selling GuruJi.
  14. Are we now in an embarressing situation because the AT has given it the go ahead? Have you got confirmation about this?
  15. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! FAXYOURMP.com is a good way of getting your MPs attention. All you need to input is your postcode. Also what is the stance of the Sikh political parties, like The Sikh Federation, on this issue. Do they see it as an issue? If anyone is an active member of the Fed please can they give us some feedback so we know if it is worth discussing with them. Also we need to get the Gurdwaras behind this. Some letters of complaints from the Gurdwaras addressed to either the MPs, BBFC and film distributors would add impact.
  16. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! Well done to the Naujawaan who came from out of town. The Chaupai Sahib Paath was amazing, the 5 loud Jaikara were amazing, all the 50 Chardi Kala Singhs (& 2 Singhnees) were amazing. Let's keep working together. GurFateh!
  17. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! We already got the Vasakhi/Diwali dinner and dances organised by Gurdwaras. "Guru Nanak's All Night Party" is just around the corner. In todays Gurdwaras Manmat becomes the norm. I probably sound like an old broken record saying the same stuff again and again, but it is really time for radical change. Tommorrow my kids will ask whether our generation did anything to stop all the beadbi be it in the Gurdwaras or outside. What's scary is the beadbi will seem so normal in the future it won't even have any shock value. When I hear/read stories about the Nanakana Sahib Massacre, Jaito Morcha, 1978 Saheeds and the 1984 saheeds I feel so passionate. If it were not for the Singhs and Singhnees who stood up for the right thing we wouldn't be sitting in our Gurdwaras today. Some people probably think that the whole issue of this whole tournamanent is a waste of time. Corrupt Gurdwara committees just do what they want to do anyway, but that's because we let them. I was one of the local Singhs that went to discuss the issue with the Pardaan Lehmber Lehal & other committee members. When we put are issue forward one of the committee members said that "drinking is a common practice in Sikh culture and we [the Gurdwara committee] are open about our drinking, we have nothing to hide". Now that was the biggest slap I have ever felt on my face. How can a person who is representing Guruji say that to someone who is following Guruji's rehat. How can I, someone who has supposedly given his head to Guruji, allow this represantation of my Guruji. This should not be happening, we know it's wrong yet we let it happen. If we are struggling to find Sikh principles being practiced in our Gurdwaras by our so called leaders then it's really up to us to sort the problem out. Guys we really need to grow up and start thinking about running our Gurdwaras!!
  18. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! The network idea is good. It may also help if you are able to meet at your local Gurdwara do your 5 banis for 4 am. A trick that I sometimes use is to drink 2/3 glasses of water before I go to sleep. I can gaurantee you will need to get up an go to the loo during the night and if you are up @ 3 am or 4 am then you will feel guilty about going back to sleep so you end up getting ready for nit-nem. Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't
  19. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! It's what trendy in Sikh committees today. These same boys were pro-khalistani/anti-congressi back in the days when you got brownie points for that. Today the exact same committee are pro-congressi/ant-khalistani. This is the same committee that put up pictures of Sant Jarnail Singh and the 84 shaheeds when it was required. This is the same committee that have now taken down the pictures of Sant Jarnail Singh and the 84 Shaheeds as it's no longer necessary for them.
  20. Unfortunatly all we do nowadays is sit and watch. That's why all these anti Sikh activities start taking place in our Gurdwaras and people just accept it as the norm. I wonder if other religions have such crazy politics in their establishments. Sometimes it feels like we are the worst for it.
  21. Air India is one of them, they will have a stall and banners around the event. Another Stakeholder is the local "Labour" Councils, they are after brownie points with the elections around the corner. One of the Radio stations are also sponsering the event (not sure if it's Punjab Radio or Desi Radio) The organisers are the Sports Committee of Siri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara London East. The committee has become a "Gentlemen's" club where an exclusive group of Punjabi businessmen seem to have an interest in the Gurdwara committee. Members of the committee have a number of local business such as Off-Licence/Convenience Stores, Banqueting Halls and the usual Property interests. The Gurdwara has very close links with the Indian Embassy and on Vasakhi day a few weeks ago the Indian Ambassador and his wife were invited to the Gurdwara and presented with a Siropa. They were served "Langar" in a "nicely" presented separate room on a large dinning table away from the Pangat.
  22. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! This is disgusting. About 15 years ago I went to this event and I clearly remember parshaday (rotis from Langar) brought from the Gurdwara and pieces of kebab being put into them by some next mona who had bought a BBQ with him. 15 years on this event still takes place. And what is worse is that we seem to let it take place by boycotting the event and ignoring the issue. Boycotting's a waste of time. We need some solid Sangat action on this. The local papers have written about this event and it's embarrassing. The sangat is Guruji's roop and we have a voice. We put the committees into the Gurdwara and we can take them down. This particular committee is very open about their drinking, it's embarrasing. And worse still we don't do anything about but accept is as a modern day norm in Sikh Gurdwaras. What was the point about standing outside the Rep theatre in Brum, if all the Behzti is going on in our Guru Ghars. The Sports Committee meeting on 8 May is a platform to voice our outrage. If anyone lives local, I would suggest you make every effort to be their for GuruJi. It's t
