  1. It is very good you will pursue paaht at your university...it will bring some goodness in that place especially with Sikhs like yourself there!!!
  2. On the issue of Ardaas....we should do Ardaas in the presence of Guru Sahib jee/ Guru Granth Sahib jee.... But it can also be done anywhere else too because Vaheguru jee is everywhere... If you have Guru Granth Sahib jee at your home then there is a order in the ardaas... Otherwise Ardaas should be done at least once a day..we should ask for forgiveness for any mistakes we make when reading banee due to human error when reciting and because the Gurbanee is broken into words from Lareedar Saroop...also we should thank Guru Sahib jee for everything...and whatever we wish to add on..when ardaas is done it should be the one from Gutkaa... Remember that when we want to pursue some business in life, we should always ask Guru Sahib jee in ardaas...like mention that this is what i wish to do etc...This is mentioned in Gurbanee...if i find the banee, i will mention it here in the future, sorry. Ardaas is important because it reminds us of our commitment to Guru Sahib jee due to all the sacrifices mentioned and about Guru jee etc. We might have been born in Kalyug...BUT we have been given all the Shaster to protect ourselves...this protection and self-benefits are only gained through Reht(i.e. through Amrit), including Naam and Banee.
  3. I agree about the fact we that we much get up out of pyaar for Guru Sahib/ Vaheguru jee... BUT do not forget that it is our duty as a Sikh to rise at Amrit Velaa and meditate on Naam and read banee....

  5. Veer jee it is okay to have monai friends but like everything else. there is a limit...its what you do with them that counts. If you hang out with them outside skool time then its not beneficial for what you should be doing in your spare time depending on what you do with them.
  6. I think over-sleeping is like being dead to the world...what can we do whilst sleeping! We are not doing anything worthwhile that will help our jeevan/atmaa when we die or soul departs from earth. Kabeer, sootaa keeyaa karai
  7. Chamkila jee, never be sorry for asking something about Sikhi...it is great you are seeking for a more Gurmat maraag/ path. U asked how long paht takes...if you are a beginner, its possible that it will take about under and hour to do the panj banees in the morning. I am not sure of how others pursue their amrit velaa..but after ishnaan, i do naam simran for a certain length of time and then read my panj banees. Hanjee you are rite that punjabee will help you very much! It is good that you are listening to the banees...but it would be a very good idea for you to readthe paaht at the same time...in Gurbanee it mentions how we should speak with our tongue, and hear banee.... Ideally you should be reading the paaht as much as possible when required. Please do keep asking questions if we have left anything out. It is SO great to hear that you shall be thinking of pursueing life this way
  8. Sorry veer jee, i dont have that pic...sounds silly but i can only capture it from a movie done of the smagam. Why does everyone want the pic...and is Paramjit Singh the one who sung, Meree Jindereyai Meree Jindereyai etc?? The one with glasses?? I think Bhai Sukhwinder Singh - if you are referring to Sukha Singh, i think he is from Southall.
  9. Bhainjee, i deeply advise that you cut ALL connection with this Muslim...Jagjit veer jee is right...they twist things...trust me, ive been through the debates and in they end they only end up doing baistee of Guru Sahib...i was lucky that the person gave up on me and was shocked at my energy of staying firmly on ground and instead getting stronger in Sikhi. This is thanx to Vaheguru ji. What I am trying to say, is that just practise Sikhi to its fullest...and somehow Guru jee removes your dushts from your path. Bhainjee, seriously, do not waste time with him/her...these are their tactics..they start by saying that i only want to tell you something but it turns into a debate coz they start attacking at you and mess up your mind. They use this tactic when they know they cannot make you their wife (lol). I hope you consider blocking him/her otherwise everyday you will feel like @
  10. Author: Kulbir Singh Date: 11-20-03 13:54 Singhs say that amritvela starts around 2am and ends around 6am. Daas, Kulbir Singh
  11. Time would be approx! after 1am upto 6am. The Minimum amount of Naam Simran we must do each day as per banee is 2 and Half hours.
  12. Pyario jee, we need to be SO serious and Strict about Amrit Velaa, that if we miss an Amrit Velaa, we should consider ourselves to not be a Sikh. That is the only way to motivate ourselves. It DOESNT matter HOW MANY alarm clocks you arrange in your bedroom just to wake up at amrit velaa...if thats what you have to do, then do it! Do whatever it takes. That is how important amrit velaa is!! And Amrit Velaa isnt just for those who have taken Amrit...it should be practised by those who wish to take Amrit later in life. What can one benefit by sleeping through amrit velaa??? Okay, we all know its a difficult task to get up...but if you truly want to fulfill your jeevan/ life...thens about time we start doing something about it. Other things that will help you spiritually and eventually help to rise at amrit velaa.... 1] read all banees required everyday (5 in the morning, 1 in the evening 1 before sleeping at night). 2] Meditate on Naam throughout the day... 24/7 with every breath. (Do as much as remembered) 3] Attend the Gurudwara often and do Kirtan amongst the Sangat 4] Attend Naam Simran programs at your Gurudwara Sahib 6] Do sevaa at Gurudwara Sahib When Guru jee see's you making all these commitments, you will be sure to recieve greater guidance, for everything happens with Guru ji's Kirpaa. --------------------- Let him, who calls himself a Sikh of the True Guru, Rise Early and meditate on God Let him exert himself in the morning and bathe in the tank of Nectar Let him repeat G ods Name under the Gurus Instruction Thus shall his sins and errors be arased Let him at sunrise sing the Gurus hymns Sitting or standing, he should meditate on Gods Name The disciple, who at every breath, meditates on God, will please the Guru's heart. He alone takes the Gurus insruction who is by the Lords mercy so guided. The slave Nanak seeks the dust of the feet of him, Who himself repeats Gods Name, and leads others to do so. Guru Raam Daas jee http://www.sikhitothemax.com/page.asp?ShabadID=1152 -------------------- kabeer soothaa kiaa karehi bait(h)aa rahu ar jaag || Kabeer, what are you doing sleeping? Wake up, and sit up. jaa kae sa(n)g thae beeshhuraa thaa hee kae sa(n)g laag ||129|| Attach yourself to the One, from whom you have been separated. ||129|| Bhagat Kabeer Ji http://www.sikhitothemax.com/page.asp?ShabadID=5097
  13. Han jee i agree, you are right about Kirtan Sohilaa being our protection throughout the night until we rise for Amrit velaa time. I do not believe the protection continues if we are still sleeping when we are meant to be awake at Amrit Velaa.
  14. hanjee thats baistee, and i see this sort of thing like bhangra on 'Sikhi' events and it makes me Had this sort of thing happen at a university...had to get it stopped, but they had put on a show of dancers for the vaisakhi occasion by then I was SO @
  15. Veer jee, never say never...don't worry you will be convinced one day.
  16. WOW Veer jee that was absolutely awesome, you are lucky to have experienced the incident even if you did not visually see the gupt fauj at the time... I do believe there is a gupt fauj too..how chardee kaalaa and beautiful!! Bhai Rama Singh jee also said that there are Shaheeds guarding around the Nishaan Sahib and they do chaur dee sevaa of Guru Granth Sahib jee when no one else is. vaheguru vaheguru vaheguru vaheguru...*infinity!
  17. Hehe thanx veer jee, its been a long time hearing a comment like that at forums!!
  18. Instead of arguing about something so ridiculous, lets read some short stories of Sant Jarnail Singh Bhinderwale!... By the way, Bhai Jarnail Singh jee always cared very much of the community he lived in. Veer jee was right to state about the sangat we 'should' keep with because it always influence our lives even if we think it cannot change us. Guru ji says so, so no one argue with veer jee on that. Secondly, we must remember that the only reason why we have been able to walk the path of Khalsa/ GurSikh or be born in a Sikh family is because of GurSikhs that have influenced and done sevaa for us in the past!!! So don't forget that when you meet someone, always treat them with respect as if they were your very own brother or sister and do sevaa for them if possible. You may benefit their life and have an effect of giving them the kirpaa through Guru ji of being born in a Sikh family. There is great importance and value of this Sikh life. If we don't do what we are supposed to in this life correctly, who knows, vaheguru jee may put us back into the Churasee Lakh joon, 8.4 Million incarnations and then one day we maybe again be given the chance of a human life> BUT this time the conditions maybe much worse! We may end being born in a poor family, or no home, or non-SIkh parents.... So please do not take this life for granted. When we even take ONE day for granted, i.e. waste it, e.g. by not committing to reht, the clock can never be turned back and we may aswell assume that we are another day closer to death and the more the punishment. Its a different thing if we are unaware of our duties. One day, as it mentions in Gurbanee, we only repent when we are older, our body will grow weaker and we will not be in the state of youthfulness... We need to breath Naam 24/7! Rise at every Amrit Velaa - DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO MAKE YOU GET UP!!!! Stick to REHT as MUCH as possible....the strictness will increase in stages, the more naam you do the more guidance Guru jee bestows upon us. PLEASE DO NOT WASTE EVEN ONE DAY - its very precious. I remember what MKhalsa said once, what needs food the most, our body or Soul!!! Only our soul departs...and we shall be judged upon our actions. ONLY that GurSikh who obeys reht, shall not be judged - his records are ripped and he/she is welcomed in SaachKhand!! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!!! heres the link!
  19. I totally agree, otherwise the atmosphere would have been even more chardee kaalaa coz it makes it easier for people to join in, otherwise they are more reluctant.
  20. was u on the stage veer jee..u dont hav to answer.. i know it was awesome, i already want to go another one!
  21. I know, same here, i was thinking, that means i get drunk everyday! haha joke, luckly i dont have the one mentioned there...but this is really bad stuff...that means so many other drinks are risky too. Imagine if they start doing something to water too one day!!
  22. Please let us know if someone has more pics of the Nov2003 smagam
