  1. Vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh Veer/Bhain Doctor_Mani jee, You said that we even colour our food. This has no relation to whether we can wear contacts or not because food is not our soul that we are trying to spiritually make pure! But Gurbanee does say about not to over indulge in food, Tohraa Kanaa, Tohraa Sonaa...we must eat little and sleep little. Secondly, then you went on to say, that we wear different colour clothes. Again that does not have direct significance, BUT Guru jee says that we must dress simple! NOW, then you went on to say that Vaheguru ji doesnt have time to punish people who wear coloured contact lenses. This is actually our dillusion! Let me explain. If I were to over induldge in food, i would excessively become fat and i would constantly crave for food and more food, when really my true craving and addiction should be NAAM. If I were to over indulge in buying colourful clothes, i would be totally missing the point of living my human life. Why would i want so many colourful clothes, to attract wrong attension?? In the end, i may become a shoppaholic and instead think about clothes and not NAAM. Slowly by over-indulging in food, clothes etc my mind will become more distant from Naam, or should i say Vaheguru jee! Guru ji didnt leave behind Dhan Guru Granth Sahib ji for no reason. There must be something SO powerful about Gurbanee...Naam is our KEY to reach SaachKhand..... We can now also say that wearing Contact Lenses does not have direct effect on our spirituality! BUT it does...by wearing different contacts, over-indulging in clothes etc, i will become SELF-absorbed....Gurbanee says that we are to free ourselves from maya, duality, wordly attachments, ONLY after we begin to untie these bonds, then we can move towards Vaheguru ji. So in the end we hinder our spirituality. AND hence therefore, we punish ourselves! Vaheguru ji does not need to make the punishment. What we sow is what we reap, (Guru Nanak Dev ji) Gurbanee also says that Vaheguru ji is the enjoyer of all pleasures. In the end, Vaheguru ji enjoys, but the funny thing is that it is us who have to suffer for it. But even that is medicine to our soul! Dukh Daroo, Sukh Roag Paiyaa!! Therefore Marf Karnaa, but according to Gurmat, wearing coloured contacts is absolutely pointless. Its point serves no purpose for a Gurmat jeevan!
  2. About changing the colour of the eye, it is not a necessity and more like make-up. So it should not really be considered okay. Even attachment to jewellery is wrong too. Wearing rings etc. People say that they arent attached to their rings, but then why is it that they can't get themselves to remove 'em! Slowly we will get into 'moh' (wordly attachment) with bigger things without realising it! Like bhainjee said, natural is the best. Thats an honest and clean look.
  3. Don't miss out GurSikh pyaaraio! More Info. at your fingertips!
  4. If we agree to that quote, then they were sucessful in breaking us down. In the past alot of things were done by those british in order to weaken Sikhi! And that quote is a minor part of their bigger activities.
  5. NO.. ONLY Chardee Kalaa Singhs and Singhnis rock!!!! like...
  6. Thats one awesome Avatar Bhenjee Simran Kaur ji!!!
  7. vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh I urge the sangat here to consider the implications of not following Sikhi the full way, i.e. as in Gurmat.... You may find this very interesting --- our Soul Please read the post by Kulbir Singh too. The core reality is that our job, friends, family, partying, clubbing, girfriend, boyfriend (the last four are NOT gurmat ways!) is all NOTHING in the end.... Sikhi is everything and there is nothing outside it, even the worlds everyday life! WE must consider practising true Sikhi as a matter of life or death!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please do not believe that you will start following sikhi later on in life, or that you will start wearing a dastar next month.......DO EVERYTHING, AS MUCH AS YOU can right NOW! Our every breath is a new beginning!!! Our every breath should be spent on Naam....this is the only way to erase our bad karma of our past lives and then to be able to collect the real wealth for our current and future destination!!!! imagine this scenario 'I may not be alive after the next amrit velaa'.... even repeating Naam just once saves us! What if we were sleeping that amrit velaa and died in our sleep at 7am. We didnt even give ourselves a chance! Guru ji was/is so powerful!!!!!!!!! They could have left us with anything amazing!!! BUT they left is with this book, which are to have full belief in as our living Guru Sahib ji....SO imagine how powerf ul GurBanee must be!!! WE MUST FOLLOW GURU JI's FOOTSTEPS, otherwise we must be travelling the wrong direction.
  8. you said it - for the indian student organisation !!.... Anything outside hindu world is not acceptable to them. Indian means hindu...so publishing something about Sikhs is not within their indian rules...another one of their ways to make sure we are supressed .... I like the shaster idea better! What veer ji should do, is distribute that to the Gurudwara Sahib to inspire youth into Sikhi! That way, he will do his sevaa of SIkhi parchaar....and the efforts will not go to waste.
  9. hanjee with Guru ji's kirpaa, hopefully your wife shall also follow Guru jee's footsteps... Jau Thoe Prem Kilarn Kaa Chaoe If you wish to play the game of love with me Sir Thar Thalee Galee Mairee Aaoe Place your head upon your palm and walk my way Eith Marag Paer Thareejai Place your feet upon this path Sir Deejai Karn Na Keejai Give your head and pay no attention to public opinion. (Guru Nanak Dev ji)
  10. sikh-heritage stuff may seem to be associated with the nangs... the sikh art heritage exhibitions! i.e. upkha definately is.
  11. about my previous post -it was actually recommended to me by sum1. ps. the requirement is that we must do at least 2 & half hours of naam jap at amrit vela!
  12. thanx for bringing that to my attention.. how cud i miss that!
  13. moorakh/me thinks... This is definately an imp topic. Missing amrit vela for reasons is certainly equivalent to :umm: @ I think that the best time to read the panj banee's at amrit vela is straight after ishnaan, before doing naam jap/swaas gras as we are fresh and alert... Keeping straight back/posture is a great tip aswell as showering with at least near enough cold water - this is actually a rehtnama too. Also good idea to put on as many alarms as you need, 'AWAY' from your bed. Most definately do your ardaas asking for kirpaa so that we may rise at amrit velaa, and do another ardaas at amrit velaa to thank Guru jee for waking us up. Just when we think its easy, it suddenly becomes hard -- must happen bcoz Guru Sahib wants us to focus on our faults and improve them....and another important way to be able to get the kirpaa is to do sangat of GurSikhs. So attend Gurudwara Sahib/ransbaees, kirtan progs as much as possible, and every weekend if possible! Definately try to sleep early, if study allows you to....other exuses such as TV, Internet for fun are just not good enough. No matter the situation of amrit velaa..> during the day/night, make sure you recite naam with every breath as soon as you remember. Wearing a malaa, is a very useful reminder! But just be sure to use it as a reminder. Like veer MKhalsa ji mentioned, no matter how many amrit velas missed or messed, do NOT give up...---continue to have faith/bharosaa in Guru Sahib and al l will come together when Vaheguru ji wishes. But remember that missing amrit velaa is one of the most likely happenings, we must motivate our minds that we MUST wake up. If it means doing the most stupidist thing with your alarm clock - like putting it at your bedroom door, then just do it! Vaheguru ji is seeing HOW hard we try - how much we love... jin prem keeyoe, tin hee prab paa-yoe He who loves, shall find him. vaheguru vaheguru vaheguru vaheguru ps. try and listen to kirtan as much as possible. by the way - dont eat snacks or junk near to bedtime! Totally agree with MKhalsa veer ji on the sick issue.
  14. Is that called awesome? Is that what son of Guru Gobind Singh ji would say to a singhnee who is supposed to be chardee kalaa but her bust is on display as if she is only some kind of symbol! Would you males like it if there was a pic of a topless Singh with 6-pac muscles and wearing a Chardee kala dastar! No, i think that disrespects Guru ji's bana for us. When doin pics, we should respect what Guru ji has given us and display that with the most respect. GurSikhs are the most beautiful, but they are pure --- i.e. not tarts or himbo's. Lets potray them correctly. Sorry but that pic made me grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.......... (
  15. We must remember that Naam is the only great power that will help us if we want to do anything and that includes shaheedi, has we are empty without the virtues blessed by Vaheguru ji. Taking Amrit is a must in order to even be recognised as a Sikh. Otherwise Vaheguru ji cannot help us fully to complete our life purpose if we are not following Vaheguru ji's command. We need to be ready everyday for any twist in our life, whether it be shaheedi, death etc....as Vaheguru ji does things in an instant and can change or do anything regardless of the past. We shouldnt worry too much about when Khalsa will Raj too...of course its the most amazing thing, but my point being that it is SO vital for us to keep within Sikhi Rehit if we want to achieve anything and fulfil Guru ji's command. IF we all did this, MANY TRUE Sikh's would be visible today. So if we want Khalsa Raj, it requires our commitment with vaheguru ji's kirpaa. When we see a Sikh, lets remember to say Vaheguru ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru ji Ki Fateh whether they are at work, school, college, uni, Gurudwara Sahib etc..... If we want to be anything true, lets have the guts to be a Sikh the whole way. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. naanak naam visaariai dhar gaeiaa kiaa hoe ||4||8|| O Nanak, those who forget the Naam-what will happen when they go to the Court of the Lord? ||4||8|| SUGGESTION: pls search 'Naam' in Gurbani section @ http://www.SikhiToTheMax.com and read more Gurbanee about Naam! One of main purposes of coming to earth is to collect Naam, our true wealth. Nothing else departs with us or saves us...the only way to cross the terrifying wordly ocean. Without Naam we live in hell. Hell is where Naam isnt. vaheguru vaheguru vaheguru..... Great post veer jee!
  17. Sant Jarnail Singh jee said that he will come back when the bataa of amrit is big enough to serve thousands! That will only happen on the era of Khalsa Raj after Kaljug. There are a few other things i believe in about Sant Jarnail Singh ji....i could say but i rather not as i have no intellect to know that for sure, only Akal Purakh knows. In the end, vaheguru ji can do anything...one thing is for sure, that Khalsa Raj WILL happen and Guru Gobind Singh ji will also return at Khalsa Raj... so anything IS possible!!!!!!!!!!!!
  18. COULD YOU SACRIFICE EVERYTHING?... It had been 3 days, long hot summer days. Sukh Nidhaan Singh was close to dyeing, as he lay there in a wooden cage on a cart drawn by two horses. He had been captured by the mughal forces near the jungles of Afghan. He hadn’t slept or eaten properly for days so he was weak when he was pounced upon by the mughal soldiers. He had put up a good fight and even killed a few of them, but he was injured and he was overpowered and captured. The mughal soldiers has tied him upside down from a tree and beaten him severely. The mughal soldiers thought that instead of killing him early they would take him to their Nawaab, he would be pleased with the fine specimen of Sikh warrior they had caught. They thought it would be a good challenge to try and convert this Kafir. It had been 5 months of travelling since Sukh Nidaan had seen another Sikh. The last time was 5 months ago he met a Sikh messenger travelling to take news to Baba Deep Singh ji. When he met the GurSikh he fell to the floor and cried at the GurSikhs feet. The GurSikh embraced him and comforted him, the GurSikh had to leave immediately as his message was of great urgency. Sukh Nidhaan Singh told him that he was travelling towards Amritsar to meet his brothers once again. They both said their Fateh! and departed. And that was five months ago… and how he longed to be with his family of Sikhs once again. He remembered the times when he was together with his band of fellow Sikh warriors. They were a band of Sikh warriors who had been given the duty to uproot certain mughal bases and stronghold to damage the great mughal force. They were given the task of also res cuing any kidnapped women taken as slaves by the mughals and returning them to their villages. He was now the last of his Jatha and now, even he had been caught and was being taken to the nawaab of this District. He lay in the small cage barely big enough to sit in and he was dyeing slowly. The energy had been sucked from him by the beatings and the immense sun. Suddenly he was awoken as water splashed onto his face. A mughal soldier on horseback trotting alongside the carriage laughed and drank some water from his pouch and spat at Sukh Nidaan Singh once again. “Not long to go now… you DOG!” The mughal laughed again at Sukh Nidhaan Singh. Another mughal ahead shouted “We’re almost there I can see the tower from here”. Two other mughal soldiers pulled up alongside the moving carriage on horseback from behind and they mocked Sukh Nidaan Singh; “HaHa! You’d better be ready; soon, you will have the honour of becoming one of US! And not a dog like your kind” Sukh Nidaan Singh stared at the soldier fiercely, and as he struggled “Never...ever…I will die…first” The mughals continued to mock him... “Yes we’ve caught many of your kind, and most of them chose the wealth and the riches. After a few beatings they always come round to OUR way of thinking” “Yes! Even last month there was that big one, one of your Sikhs, he was beaten in public and after he was begging to be accepted by us.” “Yes countless Sikhs have changed, and they now live in luxury with good homes and women, a big reward awaits you if you make the right decision.” Sukh Nidhaan Singh was hurt at the thought of his Sikh brothers giving up and betraying their Guru and the Khalsa. It seriously damaged his esteem and he started to wonder.. if he had the strength to keep his love for Guru jee until death… if so many had given up.. then what would become of him. Who was he? Was he any different… He pondered on his situation and the anxiety he felt deeply as he heard the mughals laughing and telling stories of how many Sikhs had been converted and now served the mughal empire. As he looked into the distance along the long rough road, he saw fields and fields of flowers in the distance, he wondered what place this was. His eyes were too weak and damaged to see properly. But he could make out the many fields stretching into the vast horizon. He lay back in the cage and wondered about his Sikh brothers and what would become of his and he made a plea to SatGuru… “Oh Guru! teacher of Truth. Great warrior from the heavens… I know now that my end is near. Please Guru jee, PLEASE! Bless me with the courage to uphold justice and dharma to the end. May I Die but never let go of your hand. You are my mighty guardian and now SatGuru I ask of you, please bless me with the strength and valour to persevere to the end and die a noble death but never give up my beloved Sikhi and the hair on my head. And SatGuru jee Dyaal! Please bless me with the darshan of GurSikhs once again, my eyes are thirsting for the vision of my beloved Khalsa warriors, my family the Khalsa” And at that he lay back lifeless in his cage. With Gods name on his Mind… he repeated again and again Vaaahegrooohhh… vaaaahegroohhh… Vaaahegroohh… vaaahegroohhh….” …A few minutes and he lost himself in meditation. Suddenly!! The cart jolted and Sukh Nidhaan Singh ji was awoken from his lazy meditation. He looked out into the fields and saw the Flowers. He couldn’t believe his eyes… he sat upright and he looked in amazement! He could not contain the emotion and the tears started to pour from his eyes… every single pore on his body stood to attention…. And he felt them shiver… through his soul… THE FLOWERS.. he had seen were not flowers… but they were fields and fields of Spears stuck into the ground… and on each spear he saw the Head of a Khalsa Warrior. Some scalped, some beaten, some without the eyes, some burnt, some boiled… and some he recognised…alas. He had the darshan of the Khalsa on ce again.. and the sight was too beautiful… there were fields and fields of GurSikhs heads on Spears as far as he could see into the distance… the tears he could not contain… The mughals thought that this site would break Sukh Nidhaan Singh down… but Sukh Nidhaan Singh sat upright in the cage with a firm look of Strength and nobility on his face… He thought he should show a brave face to his Sikh brothers… The Emotion powerful… he felt his spirits rise to the skies… his strength came back.. He Was so proud of these great warriors, his brothers, the KHALSA, they had died but not given up their Love for Sikhi, Truth and justice. They had not wavered in the face of torture… and had kept their faith till then end. This Gave him strength and Courage and he thought to himself. “I was a fool to even doubt for a second, that my true Khalsa would give up and lose. They fought toll the end and maintained their principles.” He smiled and wiped away the tears and out of joy he let out the war cry of the Khalsa, to pay homage to the great martyrs. “SAT SREEEE AKAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GUR BAR AKAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DEGH TEGH FATEH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Sukh Nidhaan Singh over the few coming days was offered many pleasures and riches and he was also tortured and beaten terribly. But at every moment he remembered the flowers in the fields… IT gave him Strength. He was tortured severely and on the third day when the mughals had given up, they left him to die a painful s low death as they tied him to a tree and left him to die in the sunlight overlooking the fields, bruised, battered and barely alive, Sukh Nidhaan Singh lifted his head and again he saw the fields. He smiled and welcomed Death. The pain was immense but he knew that it was worth it, as he had beaten the mughals. They could kill him but they could not take away his faith. As hours went by Sukh Nidaan Singh continued to meditate on the lord’s name. He looked out into the fields to his Khalsa one last time… and he saw in the distance a figure walking through fields. He saw that it was a Khalsa warrior in blue dress decked with weapons. As the figure slowly came closer he saw that the warrior was approaching each spear and kissing the forehead of each shaheed. As he came closer Sukh Nidhaan Singh ji saw from a distance that it was Guru Gobind Singh ji himself. He remembered that the Sikhs were like flowers and when they reached their most beautiful form, Guru jee would come to pick the flowers as shaheeds – martyrs.
  19. The idea isnt bad at all...you should consider distributing them at ransbaees and many will freely donate for the cool Sikhi posters! Hope that helps.
  20. Author: Admin of Tapoban Gurdwara Sahib Date: 09-07-03 17:56 For those of us who've been to Sree Darbaar Sahib Amritsar, we may have noticed a sign outside on the Darshani Deori that reads, "It is for the knowledge of all tha tin Harimandir Sahib on April 30, 1877 at 4.30 in the morning, a strange thing happened. There were about four hundred devotees enjoying spiritual peace of celestial music in Harimandir Sahib when suddently a flash of lighting was seen which in the form of a big resplendence entered throught the door on the moutain-side and exploded exactly like a ball in front of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and illuminating everything went out, becoming a streak of light through the southern door--though at the time of its exploding there was a dreadful and forceful sound, no harm of any kind occured to any devotee sitting inside and no harm to the building or anything else in the precinct. All the people described this supernatural scene as the wondrful doing of Sri Guru Ram Das himself" (translation based on one in Strange but True in Sikhism by SS Kohli p.11) This miracle transformed the Panth and brought it back from the brink of oblivion. After the fall of the Sikh Kingdom in 1849, the Sikhs were in very serious trouble. The Gurdvaras were in control of Mahants who had installed Hindu Idols and barred "low castes" from entering. British observers wrote that Amrit Sinchaars almost never took place. Sikh women lost their distinct appearance and no longer followed rehit or took amrit. The British even began to photograph Sikhs as they believed this "fading sect" ought to be recorded in history and one day shown in museums as a part of India's history. The British also started a heavy mission of conversion amongst the Sikhs. Many notable Sikhs left the faith at this time. Raja Ranjit Singh's general, Jowand Sikh Mokhal's family embraced Islam, Beharwala Sardar Isher Singh became Muslim under the influence of a prostitute, Harnam Singh of the Kapurthala Royal family became Christian, Dayal Singh Majithia became a Brahmo Samajist and gave over the Daily Tribune, Dayal Singh College and a Library to the sect. Big Sikh landlords Mangal Singh Virk and ChRat Singh of Barhar became Muslims for Muslim women as well. In 1873 4 Sikh boys Aya Singh, Attar Singh, Sadhu Singh and Satnokh Singh announced they were converting ot Christianity and prepared to cut their hair. Later they were convinced not to do this. Sree Harmandir Sahib was under the control of the British Government and they had appointed a Sikh manager, Mangal Singh to look after the site for them. The British had nefarious designs for the Sikhs. They intended to make Sree Darbaar Sahib the main Diocese for the Christian Church and convert the complex into a giant church. Crucifixes were even put near the entrance of Sree Darbaar Sahib near the foot-wash area. Sardar Mangal Singh heard these rumours and despite being pro-British, felt very upset. He met with PUnjab's Lt. Governor to ask about this issue and he did not give any reassurance but asked him to speak with the Viceroy. The Viceroy was at this time in Gobind Garh fort in Amritsar. Sardar Mangal Singh went to meet him and was told that the British were lawfully entitled to own, manage and dispose of all property owned earlier by the Sikh regime. They could do as they wish in the future. The Sikhs came out very dejected and sat in a Gurdvara trying to understand what to do. They decided to hold and Akhand Path Sahib in Darbaar Sahib and do Ardaas that the most precious place of the Sikhs would be saved. The next day, the sangat gathered at Harmandir Sahib and Asa Dee Vaar began. An intelligence officer sent by the Viceroy was also present to watch over the gathering. At 4.30AM, the ball of light entered and stopped in front of Guru Granth Sahib jee and then did as was described above. The Sangat began to repeat "Dhan Guru Ram Das!". News of this event went all over Punjab. The hundreds of witnesses all gave their names as proof of this great miracle. The intelligence officer too was stunned and advised the British Government that any attempt to take over Sree Darbaar Sahib would be wrong. This incident was Guru Ram Das himself blessing the Sikhs. It showed the Sikhs that Guru was not far, but always watching over his Panth. At a time where amritdhari Singhs were almost extinct and Hindu ritual had taken hold in the Gurdvaras and Sikhs were converting away en masse, Guru Ram Das enacted this miracle and revived and awakened the Sikhs. The Gurdvara Reform Movement gathered steam, Singh Sabha Movement threw out the Hindu influences and again the Panth began to emerge and grow. The entire Panth rose up to save Sikhi. The Sikhs were saved from the brink of extinction. In today's age, when again Sikhi is threatened by governments and Sikh youth are confused and misguided, it is time for a Sikh Revival. It is up to us to save our Panth. And if we take the iniative, we should rest assured Satguru jee is watching us and will certainly give us victory
