  8. i agree with UK Gupt Kaur and Rupinder Singh but heres the thing i think we fail to add... rather than us complain and grumble about it on an internet forum, lets pluck up the courage to ask persons talking to be quiet. it works - i tried it, you need to be polite, but do it in front of all their friends rather than 1 specific person whose talking, if you want - sweetly shame them into being quiet! "Bibi Ji, usee kirtan soonun aye hun, hath jor kay bayntee ah kay jay tuseen khaas dayaan gulaan kurnay hun, darbar sahib vich naa kuro" then the smile!!
  9. just thought id share my experiences. If your having a bad day, think it cant get any worse, then just read what happened... I was walking to uni the other day, and i have to walk across a rather large patch of grass. Anyways so im trudging through the mud... *squelch squelch squelch* i noticed some kids playing football to the side a little further ahead and was daydreaming as i walked on, rememebring when i was a whipersnapper, wanting to be a footballer. So im smiling , in my own private day dream, where i conquered the world - all of a sudden DHUSHUM!!!!!!! I stagger back and look around, the footballing kids accidentaly kciked the ball right into my face!!!! i pretended as though nothing happened and just walked on as you do (kinda like after you walk into a lamppost - you know who you are!!) My cheek was burning abit and there was mud on my face - but i just walked on.... anyways so i got into uni, and met up with my friends. We were sitting for a while just chatting, and then *sniff sniff* one guy begins to sniff, "do you smell something man?" me - "nah i dont...what is it?" friend 2 - yehhhh i smell it too - eeeww what is that? it smells like dog carp! friend 1 - *sniffs around the area, gets closer and closer, then stops and looks at me with the most horrified look on his face ever" me - whaaat!? friend 1 - did you step in dog poo? *everyone checks their shoes* "nope!?" urgh! then a blob of the "mud that was on my mathafell off and landed on my jumper, and i got this HUGE whiff of dog crap!! LMAOOOO the ball that hit me in the face had rolled through dog poo as they were playing, thenn it hit me in the face!!! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ so whatevers affecting you - smile!!! it cant be that bad!!
  10. When is Boss/Sikhi Camp? When is Khalsa Camp? When is Sikh Student Camp?
  11. hey just have a question i know that nowadays kirpans are made of several different materials. Note i am not wishing to get into "it should/shouldn't only be sarbloh"!! was just wondering if people knew what kind of materials they have seen used to create a kirpan... Stainless Steel Sarbloh (Iron) Carbon Steel? - what is this? ive heard that its very very hard, can even cut through sarbloh? thanks
  12. so muzamdar, in your esteemed opinion you would be of the opinion that any theoretical sikh nation that was completely autonomous would really need to be governed by man made state policies - that are appropriate to the time period? im not using the question as a tool to critique your belief, rather as to hopefully glean knowledge. If there were a theoretical sikh state run in such a way as you propose, and the laws fitted in with the social norms of the time, do you not feel there may be the possibility of exploitation? For example, if this state was around during medieval times, then womens rights etc? I hope ive made my question clear? Obviously this is all conjecture, but i find it interesting nonetheless. where does the Miri and Piri aspects conjoin in matters of law? For example, would the government (democratically appointed?) be the law makers? or perhaps the Natural Law approach would be taken? Another thought - presuming the state was SIkh - would this mean that offences such as beadbi would be seen as much more serious - (in my opinion as they should be) and would they merit severe punishment? My main question is this- i have a little feeling of unease at any possible law that was established in a SIkh nation - with one of the underlying central thematic strands of Sikhi being Daya - compassion, how could be integrate this into any sort of comprehensible legal system?
  13. Gurfateh! i have been wondering this for a while - if Sikhs ever had their own country - or used to have their own country, then what was the basis of the laws that they used to govern the state? Was it based on Guru Granth Sahib ji? or based on common sense? or some other sort of base? example - what would be the punishment for a murderer, or a rapist? would there be a culture of compensation - llike if one guy stole another guys animal and sold it on etc etc i cant seem to find out any information at all. thanks
  14. first of all im not getting involved in any nindya on peoples jeevans, all who perform kirtan in my opinioin are far better than me however we cannot ignore Maryada... Kirtan Only a Sikh is allowed to perform Kirtan (Spiritual hymn singing) in a congregation and only hymns (Shabads) from the holy scriptural compositions in traditional musical measures should be sang. Only Shabads from Gurbani (Guru Granth's or Guru Gobind Singh's hymns) and the compositions of Bhai Gurdas and Bhai Nand Lal, may be performed. It is improper to sing hymns to rhythmic folk tunes or popular film tunes. Like i said please no one get offended or annoyed, but we should accept that thios is in Rehit Maryada, and as such we should accept that these bollywood or whatever tunes ought NOT to be used...personally i did not hear any , but then again im a bit slow...!
