  1. the way i take it is the last thing gurjeet kaur described i close my eyes, open guru granth sahib jee to a random ang, and keep my eyes closed and in my mind focus on the ardas of "please bless me with a hukam guru jee" then i slowly open my eyes - whatever akhar i see first, i go to the start of that word, then the start of that shabad, and i use that shabad as my hukam it feels like to me that only guru sahib can control my actions while my eyes are closed - and also only guru sahib can control where my eyes fall on the page - so this feels to me like leaving it up to guru jee and less up to me .. i don't know - i might be wrong (99% of the time i am wrong) waheguru ji ka khalsa, waheguru ji ki fateh!
  2. check out www.sikhitothemax.com they have rehitnamas and also panthkhalsa.org and also bhai dr. ganda singh jee's book on the same topic waheguru ji ka khalsa, waheguru ji ki fateh!
  3. when guru granth sahib jee was originally written, all the of the letters were written together in the traditional gurmukhi scripture without any spaces recently the sgpc and other groups started to print suroops of the guru granth sahib with spaces between the letters pad chedd means "seperated words" larivaar means "continuous recital" these are the two types of suroops available the suroop kept at sri harimandir sahib upstairs and downstairs are larivaar waheguru ji ka khalsa, waheguru ji ki fateh!
  4. Yarare da sanun sathhar changha bhatth kherian da raihna I think it would make more sense to interpret this again Yaar means my friend sathhar means a straw-bed bhatth kherian means the home of the Kheray in the traditional folk love story of Heer and Raanjaa, Heer's parents wanted to marry her off into a very rich family by the name of the Kheras Heer didn't want to stay in the mansions of the KHERAS - she just wanted her beloved Raanjaa Guru Gobind Singh Sahib jee uses this metaphor to illustrate how he is so much in love with Waheguru --- as the soul bride in love with the Supreme Soul and Guru sahib says he doesn't care about this STUPID FAKE WORLD with all it's riches and flashy maya... all he cares about is his beloved Waheguru that's the interpretation I've been taught - I could be wrong please forgive my mistakes --- please forgive my mistakes
  5. Okay A Gurbani dictionary Bhai Vir Singh jee's Guru Granth Sahib kosh, and Bhai Kahan Singh Nabha's Mahan Kosh, interpreted into English anybody up for it ?
  6. Guru Hargobind Sahib said four more Gurus will come to earth Guru Har Rai Jee Guru Har Krishan Jee Guru Tegh Bahadur Jee Guru Gobind Rai then Guru Gobind Rai was the last ever Guru in the Sodhi clan then Guru Gobind Rai became Guru Gobind Singh and all caste / clans were abolished then the full and final Guru - forever and ever - became Guru Granth Sahib and this PROVES Namdhari people are doing beadbi to the Guru by their backwards parchar.

  9. mine right now is sehaj bilovahu jaisay thath na jaaee it's referring to churning butter you need to churn with a pace so you don't lose the rich butter same is with life and doing naam simran go at a pace, not too slow but not too fast just enough so that you are always enjoying the essence of naam russ you shouldn't feel like things are going to fast for you but at the same time if you are lazy and move to slowly the russ will be lost from you just some thoughts - please forgive my mistakes waheguru ji ka khalsa, waheguru ji ki fateh!
  10. rap / hip hop is a style of music. that is one thing. it is another thing about the values of the culture and the icons that represent the culture. to be most honest, i used to listen to all kinds of rap music. from the worst and most vulgar music by eazy-e and nwa, to more thoughtful and political hip hop like tupac and naughty by nature, to very sentimental, emotional and almost spiritual r&b and soul music by erykah badu and lauryn hill. as the years went on, and as i started to get more and more into sikhi, almost everything that didn't have gurbani in it started to seem bitter to me. like seriously i had every single tupac CD ever... i visited lauryn hill's website every day... i even saw her in concert... and i had posters of rappers and i even bought the magazines... but from the first day i stopped eating meat to the first day i stopped having alcohol to the first day i stopped cutting my hair... all the lyrics of worldly music were just lyrics of worldly music ... and at the end of the day the only real food for the soul is "har naam hamaara bhojan" and that comes from guru granth sahib through shabad veechar through guru's kirpa, through khande-ke-pahul.. through abhyaas... it's not about the music - i mean i'm somebody who will listen to gurbani in all different types of music - western, in traditional raag, in sangat high-paced, and other styles... but lyrics can have an effect on your mind -- and it's up to you to decide what you want in your mind.. some hip hop and rap have amazing messages but to tell you the truth, from my heart, i can't think of a more amazing message than gurbani. please forgive my mistakes waheguru ji ka khalsa, waheguru ji ki fateh
  11. if you do ardas in front of guru sahib with a full heart for the answer to any serious life problem - guru sahib will give you the exact and precise guidance you need to follow tried, tested and true. it will work for anybody in the world.

  14. kandola jee to illustrate my point i will tell you a sakhi there was a very chardee kalaa gursikh who was approached by a very prominent politician the politician told the chardee kalaa gursikh that "bhai sahib jee we will do all that is in our power to solve the problems of the panth. we will help the sikh community of punjab - bhai sahib jee we are with you on this fully. we will do all that is in our power." the chardee kalaa gursikh said, "have you done your nitnem this morning?" the politician's face became very red and he had to admit that he hadn't the point of the story is not just that we should do our nitnem but the more basic things - we should not be breaking the four kurehits we should at least keep the basic rehit that we will not break the four kurehits then we have some right to make lead movements for panthic change. before that i don't think we really have a right

  16. kirpan is beautiful shastar, it is guru hukam, and it is excellent self defence but saving life is guru's job i know person who got severe injury from their own kirpan hitting that one by accident so to wear it nicely and also safely is the best

  24. humble prayers to the sadh sangat.. some nice posts.. i think i would only say few things in the hope perhaps it will help the original poster firstly mona comes from "mun" and mun means to cut. therefore anybody who cut any hair from their body - turban-walas with trim beard, or girl with trim eyebrows - anything like that they can wear as many chola, kirpan, or do any kirtan but they are still a "mona" and still walking against guru's hukam - like some people tell me before, nobody keep hair, hair is already there. just like nobody keep fingers, fingers is already there on your hand. people only cut hair - this choice make the difference between sikh and non-sikh. every school has rules, every teacher gives teaching. the school say keep hair, take amrit, wear five k's, do nitnem. the teacher is guru granth sahib and that is more deep. if we not joined the school how can we sneak into the teacher's class? not very fair if you think about it. anyway last point no matter what we say only love can heal. treat ur friend like he is any other person - do not be mean to him. but choose ur friends carefully, saadh sangat is the only "worthwhile" people to spend time with. oy saajan oy meet pyare jo hum ko har naam chitaray. anyway pls forgive my mistakes sadh sangat
