  1. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Quick question for people out there. I need an audio file of the Mool Mantra with translation for my mum. She's a teacher at a primary school and needs it for a presentation. Thanks.
  2. Quick question.... For those who are up wayyyy past midnight, how in blazes do u get enough sleep to be up 4 amritvela?! I need to be in bed before midnight or i'd be a walking zombie! or are there people here who survive on 2-3 hrs sleep a night?
  3. Any player which has a line in and the ability to encode mp3's from an external source should be able to record to mp3 from an in-build mic as well. If not, just connect a microphone to the line in.....that should work. btw, I have a 512Mb IRiver player and it encodes mp3s directly.
  4. ebay is ur best friend..... anything 256Mb or more capacity is good.
  5. depends how cheap your dirt is!! but really, the best thing would be a solid state mp3 player with mic. The ones without screens and all the fancy functions are very cheap and once it's recorded as an mp3, you can put it on ur pc and the rest of us can have a listen as well!!
  6. My personal feeling on this is you are either a Gur Ka Sikh or not, there is no in-between and no other distinction. Bearing this in mind - Mann_Jatt ji, I was wondering, rather than dissecting other small points of contention, what is your response to the enlightening article/email posted by amankaur. Specifically, rather than argue about what our Guru's did, didn't or might have done, would you care to give any sort of contention to all the SGGS ang's referenced in the artice which refute caste/creed/race on the basis of it being a human trait rather than a soul trait, thus unimportant. Please use Gurmat references in your points because only those are the real words of the Gurus and the only real source of TRUTH we have to guide us in this life. Anything written by any other person or source should be considered irrelevent. Looking fwd to your response. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Gursharan Singh
  7. True, but the environment someone is exposed to, definitly has a large effect on their psyche and way of thinking. I've seen some hot-headed, bad people change over time given the right environment and encouragement, because they learn what is and isn't acceptable behaviour and in turn benifit from those changes. I'd have to say, people can, and definitly do change, though as you say, it's their choice in the end.
  8. oops... I need to knock my brain into gear a bit, probably the wrong word to use. Would go to dictionary.com tho look up a better word but it's late and i'm about off to bed.....5am start 2moro, just like every other day! anyway....u must've got the gist of what i meant to say.....lemme know what you might see to be a better word to complete my sentence.....i can't think of it at the mo. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh
  9. walking down oxford street in london, was called "Bin Ladin" by an irish guy walking past! I pretty much burst out laughing from the absurdity of it and was THIS close to calling him "IRA" back to see how he might like the same treatment, but my cool, calm nature pervaded!
  10. If you are absorbed in waheguru, then it doesn you no harm to go to any of these events. I have a similar situation, my great grandfather was a devout gursikh, his wife was a hindu. Every morning, he would go to the gurdwara and she to the temple. It was a bit difficult for the children, but in the end some of the families became hindus, most others sikh, many of them amritdhari. What kind of family would we be if we didn't attend their functions and occasions just because they are hindu. That smells of fundamentalism to me..... my father always said, "milna and vartna with them is fine, but you own heritage and life is for your guru, never forget that". We go, we celebrate the occasion with them but never at the cost of our own dharam, and they would never ask anything of the sort from us, if they did, they knew we would be comfortable coming back. They might be chanting their hymns and at the same time "waheguru" would always be on our lips... Ours is to live for our guru and to be able to respect all other faiths, how do you do that by hiding away? Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Gursharan Singh
  11. quick "one word" answer will suffice....just wanna make sure if the site is down or my isp being an <banned word filter activated>!
  12. can anyone here acess this site, because I cant seem to get in....redirects me somewhere else!
  13. Interesting, That's something I didn't know, most of the time when I read and hear about what you say is meant to be sathsangat everyone says sadhsangat. actually, to tell you the truth, sathsangat seems to be something not used often at all in my experience, the only reference on this forum to "sathsangat" or "sath sangat" is you're post khalistani!!
  14. I understand what you mean and what you're after but sometimes you need to take things a step at a time. You seem to be feeling lost, needing guidance, and you want a teacher to guide you. It's easy to say, Guru Granth Sahib Ji is our vichola, but if you can't get to it, easily read it or understand it...what then? That's where sadh sangat comes in. In this company, you can find truth, with seva you find humility. What is sadh sangat? it's the company of people through which we can discuss, learn and enrich our spiritual connection to Waheguru. It doesn't need to just be sitting in a gurdwara, listening to katha etc....this forum and what it stands for is also a form of sadh sangat (when we're not bickering about small things or political agendas! ) Learn from those around you, and in turn let us learn from you. A single bird may fly around in circles, but did you ever see a flock of them get lost or led astray? Use the local gurdwara, ask them about classes in whatever you want to learn, i'm sure theres loads of people here who could give you contacts to help you in your quest. There are so many resources available, so much seva that other have done that have made our path easier to follow. There is a full translation available if Sri Guru Granth sahib available to download There are various sites that host audio files to listen to, to help with pronounciation, and I know you can get this on cd too (for a small price) There are people here who sho uld know where they are, if not i'll post the links when I get home tonight. Family is also very important, i'm not sure thinking about going to india and dropping out of college is such a good idea. The Guru's rejected all those yogi's who were spiritually enlightened but shunned the world and retired into the mountaiins? why? Because, who would be there to be the guiding light for others? By seeing your devotion and seva, maybe you can be that light for others in your family. They stressed great importance on family life and integrating this with everything else. Learning takes time, read gurbani, use the translation to help. Read it 1 line at a time, try to understand what our Guru Ji's were trying to say to us. There are many meaning to what they say, both metaphorical and factual, discuss these with those around you, it'll deepen your understanding and ours. Never lose faith, help is just around the corner... Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji KI Fateh Gursharan Singh
  15. I find it funny and incredibly ironic that a post that tells people to stop lurking has an amazing amount of views with very few replies!!! :D
  16. Just a quick thing to point out. With regards to meat on a personal level, I think that should reside with the individual's thinking, ideals and way of life. But with regards to langar at a gurdwara, I think it should almost certainly be vegetarian. Mainly for the reason that langar is meant to promote equality amongst all. If a vegetarian comes in and doesn't want, or doesn't feel comfortable with meat being served, then where does that leave the concept of langar? Basically, having meat makes some vegetarians uncomfortable, but having just vegetarian food, makes it welcoming for all... which one sounds better to you? Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh
  17. Wayyy to general a question.... The tips'll always vary depending on what your aims are i.e Train in the morning (mostly cardio ) for better fat loss. Train afternoon/eve for better muscle gain since body has stacked up on carbs and has enough energy for a good weightlifting session etc also Mens Health.....don't trust what they say too much...they change their opinions every few months!! 18. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Param Singh Ji I think you missed the point here. As Surjit Singh's post points out, it's all about Respect to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Of course SGGS can be taken to people's homes etc if there is the proper respect and care, otherwise how would people be able to have Akhand Paath's etc at home. The problem here is the respect. As written earlier by RespectForSriGuruGranthSahibJi, the Anand Karaj is just a formality to them, taking place in a hall, where alcohol etc will, more than likely, be on the premisis. This is unacceptable, if they wish to just be happy, by all means perform the Register Marriage and be done with it. The do not have the right to turn Guru Sahib into just a "Formality".
