  1. Please dont turn this into a meat debate, stick to garlic or dont if you dont like it.
  2. if the alarm cant wake you up then how is the phone call going to? Why don't you set the alarm tone to your phone ring tone?
  3. Fateh All, We have now moved the forum successfully on the new server but as mentioned the domain name (sikhsangat.com) is still pointing to the old server. Therefore i am using this temporary url which already points to the new server for the next day or two until the old url becomes fully active.
  4. Mathleen seems to be causing a lot of problems, i think i will ban him . Guys, wait till tomrrow, see if moving to a new server fixes things.
  5. Arthur, how many probelms do you hear about sikhs with regards to integration in UK? I like to think that we (sikhs) as a community are pretty well integrated into the British society. I dont see why anyone has to give up their culture or beliefs to fit in. For example, every time i am at the office we go play pool at the pub. Each time we buy drinks for each other. I dont drink but my friends do, so i buy j20 or coke for me while my friends get what they want.
  6. I don't think she was forced to make this documentary? I doubt if someone is going to take on a project of this sensitivity without some prior knowledge and research. I agree that jobs have constraints but professional integrity is quite important too , especially in journalism. If you don't call a spade a spade then you are not only cheating your self but your audience too.
  7. Funny this has only been reported on indian websites. http://news.google.c...+Inderjit+Singh How come no major UK news site has reported this. Indian media is once again trying to cause trouble for sikhs. My question is, patting is useless. Smugglers hide things you know there so how is patting going to prevent anything. Body scanners are the way to go, most airports will introduce that so there should be no need to check turbans. I think sikh channel and sikhs outside UK should raise this issue anytime indian media makes false claims cos if we dont stop them then this will only give excuses for countries like France etc to ban dastars.
  8. You know you could have directed your post to the original poster and calmly explained to him that we do not refer to our Guru ji as a book. Yet you would rather repost the same post stating how bad the admins are. Its not just admins job to maintain a respectful environment its every forum member's responsibility as well.
  9. One of the problems with the sikhs is that we try to get involved in things which we ourselves know nothing about. Why do we give so much importance to these people when we ourselves have so much to learn. If we try to first learn the basic things from Guru ji and dont rely on people who will either let us down or confuse us then i am sure understanding of what is right and what is wrong will come to us. Most of us just blindly follow other humans and ignore our one true Guru.
  10. Thats actually a great idea, bhen ji. When i was a kid in india, we used to read stories from these books. We had to stand up and read infront of the whole class. What you are thinking of doing is, not only will teach them punjabi but will also teach them about sikhi. I looked on dtf books and there are punjabi books there but they might not be suitable for kids learning punjabi. You could try translating http://www.sikhnet.com/stories/1079 sikhnet stories to punjabi for your classes? These are relativly short stories and aimed at kids.

    Maoo(n)?

i thought they were called "chamoone" ? just remember the word, not cos i had them when i was young or anything
  12. So i made this video like 5 years ago, found it today so thought its time to refresh everyone's memory. I think it was my first sikhi based video. I will post more soon. http://www.youtube.c...h?v=hb4_ErGjnFA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hb4_ErGjnFA
  13. Shouldnt take long for governments to label it terrorist organisations and balme for some act.
  14. Supermarkets, places like M&S are best present best temporary employment opportunities over christmas period. You should aim to get a temp job first and then keep applying for more permanent work.
  15. haha , just spoke to mum and she said my nephews already asked my sister when they are having dastar bandi. I am going to try to get them to have it early next year.
  16. I haven't seen the full video, only from the point where there are sikh soldiers etc. Only thing i would say is that he (sukhshinder shinda) should do a video about Darhi as well cos it seems its missing on his face.
  17. Thats why i posted the topic. In olden days , this was celebrated in a such a good way. All the family members used to attend it and kids mama ji would tie the dastar. Can we not discuss this here please, lets at least discuss the topic first.
  18. Cant remember the last time anyone in my family had dastar bandi ceremony. For me it is a memorable time in any young boy's life. When i tied my dastar, my parents and couple of relatives in uk just did ardas at home and i tied my first dastar. i have two nephews who i think should be tying dastars soon one is 11 and the other is 9. But they are in india and teens there seems to wear patka until they are adults nowdays. So question is, do people still celebrate dastar bandi ceremony? Has this practise become less frequent in sikh families? I will be asking my sister when they are doing it cos i would happily fly back to india to tie a dastar on my nephews head. Also if anyone has pics, upload them and share your experiences.
  19. Every Sikh should make sure that whenever they refer to 1984 massacres then they do not use the word "Riots". Riots imply when there are two groups fighting each other. This was not riots, it was a massacre.
  20. feature wise it looks simple, though i haven't seen it fully yet. But let me tell you where the real cost is. Do you think storage , bandwidth etc is cheap? well think again. $50,000 probably includes, development cost, cost of hardware, cost of keeping the servers etc running.
  21. The following comment from one of the youtube users about this guys somes it all up.
  22. That was a very good animated story. Atleast indian tv reporters are using different tools for making things up. Before when they told a bollywood style story with just audio it seems hard to believe but with full animation to back it up, well i am convinced. It must be true.
  23. Please note that next time if you are going to want to remain gupt, please dont use existing memeber's names. As far as your issue is concerned. What is your degree? Most people i find have gone to uni with no planning for the future. They end up doing totally different things than their degree. This should be a lesson to anyone going to degree. If you are thinking of going to university then make sure your degree reflects your planned career because otherwise you might as well not bother. Degrees are only first step into getting you that graduate job. After that no one ever asks for degree. Its all about experience in the subject matter.
  24. Hariyan Hariyan Khetiyan, Laggan pyariyan Hariyan Hariyan Khetiyan, Laggan pyariyan Jithe Guru Nanak jee ne , Majhiyan si chariyan Hariyan Hariyan Khetiyan, Laggan payariyan
  25. I am quite busy at the moment with work but lt me just tell you about the Anand karaj, When a sikh couple are doing lavan they are at equal distance from the Guru ji at all times. This is equality, you are looking at woman following man, where as i am seeing them as both couple doing lavan while Guru ji is in the center. There is no other way of achieving this, if we made the couple walk side by side then one of them would be away from the Guru ji. If one was following another then when the couple are doing matha tek to Guru ji then the groom would do matha tek first, then the bride would be allowed. You can argue like, Guru ji made men singh and women kaur. Guru ji had the time to make women panj after 1699 but didnt. But i can argue that why did Guru ji's not pick up arms until Guru Hargobind Singh jee? Babar was killing people so why did Guru Nanak dev ji not use the sword. Why did we have such a gap to get to miri piri? Why did we not have female Gurus? For me the answer to these question is simple, Guru ji followed the plan laid down by akal purakh to mould sikhi into what it was to become. If Guru ji never explicitly stated that Kaurs cannot be in panj piyare then how is that Gurmat? That is our mat. If it is not Gurmat then as panth we can decide what is so bad in rehatvan kaurs joining panj piyares. We dont have to look far (Guru Granth sahib jee) to see what our 10 guru jis thought about women.
