  1. Vicky, i would love to come work in CALI but a friend of mine who just returned from a holiday in america said at the moment most american jobs are going to Americans? The move unfortunatly will be anywhere from 6 months or a year from now. Because i am currently working on a project that may last 6 months or a year. However after that i am no longer accepting work in North West UK so i will be making the move
  2. ok putting slough on the list. I have friends who live in Enfield and Fulham so it shouldn't be that bad as at least i will know few people. Going to create a poll now for this topic.
  3. hmm i think "desi people should be friendly" is putting people off from replying. Ok desis can be desis.
  4. could be moi....... So i want to buy a house soon but i also want a change so i am thinking of moving out of north west UK. Therefore i want to find a nice town/city to move to. Here are my preferences : City/Town must have good IT job prospects There must be decent size sikh population there Desi people should be friendly Atleast one gurdwara near by or in commutable distance Enough things volunteering, social+religious events one can get involved in. Usual stuff, less crime etc Here is a list that comes to mind....Birmingham?, Leicester? London ( :6 ) Help please.
  5. hey, i don't know much about your field but just want to say that i have seen many students do a course just for the sake of getting a degree. They end up with very little knowledge that can be applied in the real world. This means that when it comes to finding jobs, they have a real hard time. So make sure you are doing the course you are doing for the right reasons.

  10. In uk the IT graduate salary is around £20k - £25k. Sikhnet webmasters have been running a highly successful site for years. From a commerical point, that is worth a lot in itself. As forthe admins, given the business and technical experience they have, they could easily be earning 3 times the amount quoted.

  12. Its more like some spyware on your computer. have a look at this http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q...earch&meta= Lots of other people get this popup and they dont visit Sikhsangat. I think what might be happening is that (assuming that) your firefox browser is your default browser. This means that any program (spyware or not) which opens a webpage from your computer will open it using firefox. Which is why you get this popup in firefox.
  13. this is sad, you cant even google what could be wrong with google  As for original post, if you check the link above it should explain it, they made a slight mistake in some file and added all urls to the bad list.
  14. A question singh, why do you need to raise funds? I thought this was a commercial channel? Or the parent channel is certainly commercial?
  15. What is the worst that could happen if a cop hits you. Out of court settlement and you are better off financially by claiming police brutality. The law allows peaceful protest but coming from Asian subcontinent there is no such thing as peaceful protest. I also agree with Mehtab that the protesters in lead were pakistani youths who were shouting obscenities at the cops. I dont think the police men were running and were being chased, thats how the protest was supposed to work.
  16. What kind of profession are you in? Maybe its time to go contracting and earn more money in less time doing the same kind of work. I decided to go into contracting when market was begining to go bad, this was last july. Luckily i found a contract and have been on it since. Hopefully, things wont be too bad when i start looking for the next job but somehow i think this time its going to be a lot tougher.

  20. Degrees are not worthless, it is what degree you have and whether you got it for the right reasons or not is what matters. I did a software engineering degree and its a performance based field. You have to write software, create websites etc and if you cant do that, despite having a Software engineering degree then you will not find a job. My lecturar used to call other degrees like History, arts etc colouring in degrees, which have no real value in the world. And sure enough we have seen a lot of these students finish their degree and then not being able to find the job in their related field. So most of these students look for a job in a different field. I finished uni with students of pretty much all backgrounds. We all finished with decent grades in Software engineering. Now pretty much every person i know has making anywhere from £30k - £60k within the first 5 years of leaving uni. So my advice is to go to university but do a course which you are interested in and which you know will help you with the career that you want.
  21. Hindus upset over Hollywood film By Frances Harrison BBC religious affairs correspondent The producers say the film portrays a fictional faith Hindus in the US have started a protest against a Hollywood comedy, saying the film will hurt the religious sentiments of millions of Hindus worldwide. More than 5,000 people have signed an online petition protesting against the film Love Guru, starring actor Mike Myers and due to be released on Friday. Some Hindu groups are considering a boycott of Paramount Pictures which produced the film. Paramount says the film does not make reference to any particular religion. The company says Love Guru portrays a purely fictional faith. We all know when you show a person with a sari and a mark on their forehead that will be associated with Hinduism Bhavna Shinde, Sanatan Society In the film, Myers plays the main character, Guru Pitka - who is raised by gurus in an ashram in India and then moves to the US to seek fame as a self-help coach resolving the marital problems of a Canadian hockey player. The film includes a character played by the British Iranian comedian Omid Djalili called Guru Satchabigknoba and a hockey player called Coach Cherkov. 'Mythical creation' The argument that it's slapstick and farce rather than real religion doesn't wash with Hindu activists in the US. The premature outcry against the movie is itself religious propaganda Spiritual teacher Deepak Chopra They say that in the West so little is known about Hinduism that even a parody like Love Guru could be misinterpreted by teenagers and give them a skewed view of the religion. "They should draw a line when it comes to people's faith," says Bhavna Shinde of the Sanatan Society in the US. She is upset that the main character wears sacred Hindu saffron robes and carries holy prayer beads. Mike Myers himself has described the religion he lampoons as a "mythical creation - it's like the Force in Star Wars". And Paramount Pictures have quoted the spiritual teacher Deepak Chopra rebutting criticism of the film based on only the two-and-a-half-minute trailer. "The premature outcry against the movie is itself religious propaganda," said Mr Chopra. 'Hindu concepts' But Bhavna Shinde is not convinced - indeed she says it's ironic the film company quotes a man who doesn't even consider himself to be a Hindu. "We all know when you show a person with a sari and a mark on their forehead that will be associated with Hinduism." She argues that terms used in the film like "guru", "karma" and "ashram" are "signature Hindu concepts" clearly pointing to Hinduism. "Which other religion are they talking about?" she asks. So far it's only the trailer that's caused concern - two Hindu groups in the US have complained that they were promised an early screening before the film is released but were never shown it. In the UK, Paramount Pictures says it will arrange a pre-screening for Hindus before the film opens in August. Hindu activists in the US have appealed to the rating body to change the classification for the film - which warns some material may be inappropriate for children under 13 years of age - to make it impossible for anyone under 17 to see it. They've also written protest letters to the Indian Film Censor Board. They say they would have been happy with some kind of disclaimer at the start of the film explaining that it is not a proper representation of Hinduism but complain their views were not listened to.
