  1. At the end of the day who cares? Instead of worrying who is what, the least we should be able to do is wake up in the morning and justiy your own existence to ourselves. There's nothing worse than being a 'waste of space'!
  2. Some people got more money then sense. Good luck to them!
  3. Sometimes people go through a rough patch and end up in prison, whether young offenders or older people. From petty crimes to more serious crimes, it's surprising how some of our own may end up doing time. Kesdharis do get it rough in prison from other inmates and some will inevitably cut their kes to survive the prision term. Whilst doing time people become very vunerable and many start reflecting on the jeevans. I know of 2 young ment in the same prision from different Sikh families who converted to islam in prision so that they could feel part of an inner muslim community within the prison system. Islamic parchar is strong in some of the prisions and many asian lads will become muslims in order to feel secure and protected. Although Sikhs are comparatively small numbers in prison, we can not deny that they are being ignored during their most vunerable time and will run to muslim and christian groups for support.
  4. Over the last 10 years I have come accross this situation a few times. The problem is no group takes collective responsibilty and the situation for Sikhs in prisons does not change. Individually, you can visit Sikh inmates on a regular basis whether you knew them personally or not. Build a relationship with them and help them through their vunerable time. You may need to remove your kirpan at some prisons when visiting or when you pre-arrange your visit you can mention about your kirpan. The situtation can only be changed by commitment from individuals because collectively no influential jathebhandi seems interested.
  5. Until the jealous troublemakers disappear our kaum will always suffer from non progression. Paneer Monster, you appear to be one of those typical stirrers born to put doubt in peoples minds, by putting 2 and 2 together and moulding out a 7. The good thing is your voice is only limited to an internet forum and you have minimal impact in the real world.
  6. Wait until November, Guru Nanak Devji's Gurpurb. There's usually a few regular Yatra's then.
  7. Post this topic on the Sikh Channel forum on sikhchannel.tv. I am not that bothered about status of the news presenter/reporters as it's news and not dharam parchaar. Too be honest, I don't look at her sleeves or bindis as I'm busy taking the news in!!! Besides even if she wore a dastaar, I can see complaints coming in on the style of dastaar or shade of blue tint in her suit.
  8. Protecting personal property, jagir and family honour is a common punjabi trait, even go as far and say it's a human instinct. Standing up for Dharam is another story. People can compromise Dharam for a livelihood, people shed the kes to get a job, people start selling drugs, alcohol, tabacco, pornography etc to earn a livelihood. That's not an example of a Sikh who wants to give kurbani for his beliefs as he's already comprimised his belief. I don't get the same level of excitement some of you other veers are getting from these videos, I can be accused of looking too deep into this and applying too much 'fairy tale' Sikhi (as someone above put it) tothe scenarios. But shouldn't one look at sitiuations with depth and apply it to what Gurmat tell us, not just shape the conclusion we desire?
  9. LOL.Whatever makes you happy my dear brother! You guys are obviously more learned in the ways of the 'street' than lil ol'me. Dhan Dhan Off-Lasense Walay, Jina Nei Sutay Najwaan Uthaiya!!
  10. Tie a dastaar or dummalla. Your 13 and seem old enough now. It will look so much maturer than a patka.
  11. You make out as though 'Man in pugri' potecting alcohol and ciggerets are meant to encourage Bir Rass in the Naujwaan and fester some from of Sikh pride or promote Sikh bottle-fighting skills. So when does defending a stock of alcohol and tabocco warrant a saropa from the Panth or a mention that Sikhs are 'brave'....Last time I checked they were Bujar Kurehits along with kes katal and adultry. Wonder how you'd feel if the man was pimping as Maharaj's puts the consumption of alcohol and tabocco along with extra-martial relationships/visiting prostitutes....but hey...this is pardes and people need to 'earn' a living/ And then what, had the 'Man in Pugri' died in the process would we have made him a panthic Shaheed and put his picture in the langar hall..? I can show you dozens of fist fights between Uncles at Jatt/Punjabi wedding receptions usually out of some stupid misunderstanding and over indulgence of alcohol. The alcohol which our gracious off-licence heroes provide to them.
  12. Defending one's business is much easier than defending one's faith. Many of these amazing 'Singhs' are willing to give their dharam up for their business, tell me do you see the Singh of Guru Gobind Singh doing the sewa of distributing ciggerettes and alcohol to the duniya. Is that... Sarbat Da Bhalla...or Kirt Kamai?? If Mr Singh has already sold out Guru Nanak's Sikhi in inorder to feed his tummy then what's he going to do for the Khalsa Panth! You want to big up a hero, find me a real Panthic hero... not Mr Botleg Booze seller Punjabi Uncle who sold his Sikhi for bottle of Whiskey!
  13. Those 'Singhs' protected the sacred ciggrettes and barcardi bottles from the clutches of the evil robber. Another great cause worth dieing for......No one will dare nick ciggerettes from a Singh with his mahan wine bottle as a trusted shaster...Now we can get Khalistan...no problem...what panthic heroes..
  14. http://www.northamptonchron.co.uk/news/Symbols-of-race-hate-daubed.5548902.jp Symbols of race hate daubed on Sikh temple Published Date: 13 August 2009 Racists have daubed far-Right extremist logos and a swastika on the side of a Sikh temple in Northampton. The graffiti has appeared on a wall of the gurdwara and ramgarhia centre in Craven Street in The Mounts, and features the letters NF – standing for National Front – and makes offences comments to the Sikh community. It is thought the damage was caused at some point during the night between Tuesday, August 11 and yesterday morning. Anjona Roy, chief executive of the Northamptonshire Rights and Equality Council, said reports of racist graffiti were on the rise in the county. She said: "The year before last, this would have been completely unheard of. But we are hearing of this type of racist graffiti, which has political far-Right undertones, more and more often. "This is a deliberate act, designed to intimidate not just the members of the Sikh community but also other communities living in what is a very diverse part of town. "There is a synagogue and Muslim prayer centres within a stone's throw of the gurdwara, and this graffiti will have an enormous impact on all of them." The graffiti has appeared days after what was believed to be a racist fight on The Racecourse. Paul Varnsverry (Lib Dem, West Hunsbury), Northampton Borough Council's cabinet member for communities, said: "This is completely unacceptable and of course it does not reflect the vast majority of people living in Northampton. Community relations in the town are generally exceptionally good. "Unfortunately there is a tiny minority of narrow-minded bigots who think this type of expression is acceptable. It is not." He added the borough council dealt with racist graffiti as "a matter of priority" and vowed offensive messages would be removed within 24 hours of them being reported to the authority. Paul Crofts, of Northamptonshire West Hate Incident Forum, told the Chronicle & Echo: "In my view, this is a form of terrorism, designed purely to intimidate people of all religions and those of no religion. "To paint a swastika on a place of worship is despicable." The temple graffiti had been removed by 3pm yesterday. 15. An amazing inspirational article. This must be read by every Gursikh in the world, I feel privilaged to have been alive to have read about the daat of amrit and know that in my lifetime this mahan Singhni was taken straight to Sachkhand. This is a story we will be telling our Grandchildren and future generations.
  16. Pictures are open to interpretation. For many Sikhs/Punjabis the only they have a relationship with their Guru is through images as the relationship with Gurbani has not fully developed. There should therefore be not only atistic responsibility but also moral reponsiblity with images produced of the Gurus and ithaas as they will be influential to someone else. From a critical point of view, I don't feel these images of Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj responsibly portray BirRass. Like someone above mentions, it could easily be interpreted as aggression and anger.
  17. No one's digging their heads in the sand or denying there are some perverts who can use the granthi/gursikh outer roop to carry out bad acts. However, the mud slinging antics of Punjabi culture and the power struggles we see for control of Gurdwaras does suggest that people can make stories up to kick their enemies out. The specifics of this particular story seem to unrealistic and over-exagerated. I can't see any cunning person who takes on the roop of a granthi to earn easy money risk his only stream of income by being stupid and viewing porn infront of everyone. Come on, even cunning perverts have some level of intelligence.
  18. Makes sense. Imagine the public turnout at Sant Ji's Atam Sanskar. It would have been huge and a massive statement to the world which would not have looked positive for Congress. Sadly, we as a panth have stalled ourselves over this myth of Santji's return and it probably has been used as an excuse for not moving forward.
  19. How authentic is this story? I'm sorry for being a bit sceptical about the source but how can someone in a Gurdwara do something so stupidly anti-Gurmat in public. Unless the granthi was on a suicide mission or had a screw loose, would he really see porn in full view of the sangat whilst sitting on Maharaj's tabya? I hope this is not a mud-slinging exercise by the committee on a granthi and therefore a situation was created. Don't forget in the 80's some scummy committees were known for planting cigerates, porno mags and booze in popular granthi quarters in order to get them kicked out of Gurdwaras. Just something to think about when reading these articles and assuming they are 100% accurate.
  20. With all due respect, I think you are banking too much on youth sorting the whole panth out. Believe me, sooner or later you will see the bad traits of the corrupt committee thinking in many of those same banay walay singhs too. It's a poison which is deep in our veins and not easy to let go. I have witnessed prominent 'youths' who have made judgemental comments about other individuals based on their caste or background. It's surprising when Sikhs born in the UK still think that they have a superior right because they are born in some a medivial jat clan. Not just a pindu old man problem, you'll find that the uk born amridhari grandchildren have been bred with the same views too.
  21. Hostile takeovers do nothing on winning any confidence from the sangat. During the 80's in the UK there were many hostile takeovers off Gurdwaras (Khalistanis V Non Khalistanis V other Khalistanis), many of us as kids will remember kirpans and turbans being knocked off, Policemen with shoes running around the darbar sahib. It was an embarrasing time for many SIkhs and also pushed many people away from Gurdwaras. That ekta that the UK Sikh community had during the 50's through to the 70's was destroyed in months by these excercises The effects of kutapas and forced takeovers only leaves behind a big mess which takes a long time to clean up. No committee can stop sewa. They can shut down gyms but they can't stop youth from doing sewa in the Gurdwara. Through sewa Gurmukhs can easily takeover the Gurdwaras from the corrupt committees. The only problem is youth want quick fixes which often involved a hot-headed approach.
  22. Keeping Kes, proudly wearing a dastar and walking around in sabat soorat is the first step to standing up for Sikhi. The second step is having sabar shakti and the bibek to know what is a cause worth standing for and what is simply a playground fight.
  23. Dhan Guru Dhan Guru Piyaray.. What a blessed soul!!
