  1. If that is the case then Kohli should come out with it......as its sangats money and he isn't doing us as sangat any favours by hiding all of this......just my opinion. Another opinion - even if he comes out with it, what is really going to happen/change, probably nothing, i.e we all already know what is going there, but nothing happens.
  2. some people at the and of ardaas read "Khanda Ja Kai Haath Mein Kalgi so hao Sis, So Hamri Rachaa Karai Kalgidhar Jagdish" Where si this dohraa from and who wrote? What about "Vaheguru Naam Jahaaj Hai.......?
  3. For issue's in India SOS maybe be able to help (time will tell), knowledge of local laws (depending on where the issue arises)is very important. Does SOS have knowledge of local Canadian law and what are they able to do for us facing issues? If you are having issues in Canada. Contact World Sikh Organisation (www.worldsikh.ca), they have lots of experience and knowledge on how to handle these issue as they are based in the country. Dont expect too much from DSGMC, they won't be able to help with western issue's. In america - contact Sikh Coalition - they have ample experience dealing with and resolving issue's. For those of you in Austratlia/Europe or any other countries pls post who your local sikh bodies are to handle thses issue's.
  4. so many similarities so what happened in 1984..........
  5. read mukat marag granth, list's specific answers to certain problems and sais to be recited by tenth master at hazoor sahib.....Bhagat Praihlaad got into bhagti for raaj but then as he went on in bhagti he lost the desire for it.....but the initial motivation was money/things/loss of staus
  6. Then how do things like Mukat Marg Granth and Sharda Pooran Granth fit into this? If you are only to get what is destined then why did the Guru's or the saints write these granths to help with specific financial problems? Bhagat Prailaad ji comes to mind who did bhagti for raaj.
  7. I would agree with these findings we were from Multan and were re-settled in Hissar (Haryana) Pind: Diwana My Nanke were from Gujranwala and here re-settled in shahbaad Markanda (Haryana) which is near Karnal. Both sides of my family are Jat's and rich land holders. My dad's side traces its connections to the times of Guru Nanak Sahib as he visited Multan and our village in Multan was the birthplace of Bhagat Farid ji. Sikhi is a huge diaspora which is very strong outside of Punjab. Doaba region Sikhi is dead right now, they were also considered very backward/poor area's. The majority first settlers who came to England were from these areas and they were the ones who did hard labour as they weren't educted but it has paid off as they are flourishing overseas. But there basic nature is pindu hence they don't know how to hold themselves with tact and grace so they feel the need top show off and put down hence the NRI culture/vulgar songs/bling bling etc etc. You usually won't find that towards the chandigarh/ludhaia side - people are generally more educated and not as pindu.
  8. Actually there was an edict some years ago from the Akal Takht saying that all marriages should be done in gurdwaras only and one is not allowed to do prakash in hotels, etc, etc. There was too much beadbi going on so they had to put in place these strict rules. I have been involved in our gurdwara for the last 15 years and have attended many marriages both on and away from the gurdwara. I would agree with the akal takht decision in this regard, it is beter to do the lavan in the gurdwara where proper respect can be mantained. You see you have your relatives who come for the marriage and you go out of your way to make sure they are taken care of and respected, but the same usually does not go for the treatment of our Guru. Mostly because we don't believe it's our Guru, it is just a ceremony we all do and afterwars the majority of us drink alcohol, etc, etc which are against the tenets of the religion. You see in my involvement in the gurdwara I have learned the raagis and granthis are usually rascals and they will do anything for money, even sell there soul. There are a handfull who are good but you wil always find one who is willing to do anything for money and hence the saroops are taken anywhere. The age old problem. Nor are our people worried about what they are doing.....
  9. Sangat ji, Is there anyone out there who has the contact number for Gyani Thakur Singh Patiala vale? The number I have is disconnected....it is an urgent matter. Your help would be appreciated.
  10. Dear Sangat, We have family get togethers on a monthly basis with about 8 kids (ages 3-12). We do rehraas then keertan and after which I have been asking the children to prepare a short speech on a historical or religious topic. We have covered Guru's. Do you guys have any topic ideas or techniques/fun ways to engage and teach the kids about Gurmat? I would really appreciate it as I am running out of ideas....Thanks
  11. The issue with our people is usually that we don't don't trust each other.....this is why our gurdwaras don't actually "help" people, they are just the rich feeding the rich. Also our people like to abuse the system alot hence there intentions are always questioned........it is a sort of like a catch 22........ I know in our gurdwara we had lots of students coming who used to even take langer home. Our head granthi got mad at them and they never came back. The issue goes 2 ways - there is abuse of the langer and also a hard-line attitude by the commitee's......everybody is I guess is right in there own sense of the situation.
  12. Does anybody know where this guy was during the 80's time period? Was he employed by punjab gov't at that time as DGP and why is he speaking up now after so mnay years, I have never heard of this guy...
  13. has anybody tried making it this way? How much is a rati, tola, shatank, mashe?
  14. Recently the Jathedar has reprimanded a guy for bringing the saroop in a suitcase to a foreign country. I say this has been happening for some 80 years......why all of a sudden the punishement? We all agree that respect and proper maryada for the transportation of the Saroop is very important, but here is my point: Akal Takht and SGPC have made it very clear thar they have sole rights to the printng of the saroops (india only) but for those who are in foreign countries and need the saroops and then bring them over the best way that they can based on the means that they have, they get in trouble. When will the idiots running the show wake up and realise that we also require saroops in foreign countries?? SGPC don't want to provide an over seas printing facility and also don't want to make arrangements to send the saroops with proper respect overseas - so then what are we to do? Our local gurdwara's are too busy having multiple paats and don't trust anybody enough to give saroop, so then what option is left? We sikhs in NRI land have enough money and resources to set up our printing facility so then why don't we?????? NRI sikhs have handled every problem sent there way with there own resources (turban cases, kirpan cases, racism, etc, etc) so then why is it that we can't handle this as well? I would like to appeal to Sikh Channel, Sikhs fOr Justice, Sikhri, UK Sikh Council, Damdami Taksal, AKJ, Nihangs, Gurdwara committee's, etc, etc and all the other committee's out there to take up this issue and start our own press....I know you all read this forum so pls provude your comments.
  15. I woud like to let you all of a certain miracle in a sense that has happened after I posted this question. The exact agan bhet container (basically a portable grill) posted above by Sikhistan popped into my mind. I figure it is a sign from our Guru's. Do you pour desi ghee then light with a match? Thanks
  16. How do my Canadian brothers and sisters dispose of their combed and fallen hair? I have quite a bit of it and am not sure how to approach the burning of it. We live in a regular residential area (the suburbs)....any help?
  17. Dear Sangat, Many of us have rooms with either Pothi's or Guru Granth Sahib full saroop and along we have shasters displayed (khanda's, kirpans, chakars, etc, etc). I never really understood why we do so (have the shasters dispalyed)? Can anyone explain? Also how are we to care for the shasters and properly respect them on a daily basis? I know some singhs do Dhoof and Bati to the shasters...but is there something else as well that should be done. I have seen that many of the Nihung Singh and others have a very deep respect for the shasters and do its pooja and they view it as a part of sargun parmatmaa.
  18. So according to the puratan maryada a garvi or kumbh is kept with jal (water) during a paat and at the bhog you are to both drink and sprinkle (chirkaa) in the home. Does any of you know how the "chirkaa of the jal is done in the home - is there a certain way to do this. I heard once that you should go from the back towards front door of home. Any thoughts or ideas or experiences?
  19. Your kidding yourself Johnny boy..........Guru Gobind Singh says he gave the raaj to the "gareeb" sikhs, this means both in monetary and spiritual terms, we don't have the depth and understanding to stand on our own 2 feet......we just can't get along we are a quom of too many chiefs and not enough indians. Sant ji had to deal with such fool leaders we have and Sant ji was true to his heart for the betterment of our people. It wouldn't have amade a diiference if sant ji was there back then as the idiots out numbered the good people. But the reality is that power is what makes the world turn so in the end the same thing happens to us - we are not so smart in the political end of things due to selfish leaders so we suffer and will continue to do so. The bad people made the plan so that they got rid of sant ji and the movement....they are playing with our minds now. Sukh girls don't want to marry turban sikh boys - Why? Because the media has portrayed us so bad that they feel embarassed. Hence the boys are also after only one thing between the legs so they are too cutting away. The times are of the morally corrupt - who will win all positions and battles. Johnny - you see this is the time of kaljug and the bad people will only rule in this time no matter what you do or try. It is just a cycle, the times will eventually change and the good people will take hold of power then the bad will have to sit on the sidelines. We can discuss more, it's good to talk, I enjoy teaching the younger generation.
  20. You guys are kidding yourselves there was no scvope for a seperate sikh nation and these knew it. The sikhs don't trust each other, and cannot get along. It would have been a huge mess............
  21. Who cares? These so called raja's have no place or influence in todays society.........kings of the past nobody cares and hardly anybody remembers there names even. They have mostly all re-incarnated and are the modern day Punjab gov't.....Badal, majithitia, chandumajra, etc,etc in past lives were all the same people doing the same gandh.....also politics is a very scary game..we as the common man don't see things from the perspective of politicians who see a bigger picture. We are a minority in India and if the hindu majority pounces on us even once our numbers will decrease very fast, so to some extent one has to play a game. When we are in majority who knows our people may do the same things as the hindu majority does now. The biggest problem is that Sikhs don't trust Sikhs....our biggest weakness and we fall everytime. The world is a cycle the bad will win for sometime then the good will win for sometime, and the cycle continues. Look at history of the world everybody has there day in power both good and bad.
  22. I was listening to sooraj prakash katha by baba hari singh and it says water is "4 gunaa jiada" i.e 4 times more than the other ingredients...
  23. But I thought the maryada says that water has to be 4 times (4 gunaa ziadaa) than all of the other ingridients. This is what I am trying to figure out....4 times what the totel weight of the other 3 ingridients?
