  1. "Religious people and leaders of Religious institutes never really tell the sangat about real Sikhi, cos if the sangat knew rea Sikhi these people would never make any money" Why do we need anyone to tell us about real Sikhi? Why can't we find out about it ourselves? We do not have to have a clergy. We all have access to guru Ji whenever we want. We're brilliant at the blame game but really it is our own laziness that has given some currupt people this power over us. AAA
  2. My son was running between me and his dad once (he was 18 moths old). This wouldn't have been a problem if we weren't made to sit separatley BTW. I was asked to leave. My husband wasn't asked to leave but i was with my son. So, I went outside the corridoor to wait for my husband. Stood ther for about two minutes before I was shooed away from there too by the sevadaars. I left feeling completley unwelcome in my own Guru's house, so I hope all the sevadaars were well proud of themselves. Kids are the future of Sikhi and when we give them the impression that they are not welcome, then we can't complain when the mosques and churches welcome them with open arms in the future. It is not their fault that they don't understand all that is being said and preached. When the parents don't bother to bring the kids at all, then many of you complain about that too. As for being irratated by adults who are talking and gossipping, grow some balls and tell them to be quiet. What can they possibly say back to you? AAA
  3. My gut reation is that there is no such thing but I also recognise that GOD has no limits so it's not impossible. Have faith in Guru, it's all the protection you need. IF (IF IF IF) such things as spirits exist, then they do so on instruction from god, they have been created by him, therefore he is their father , as he is ours. These things are merely our syblings, on their own journey, with the same destination in mind. Nothing to fear. I believe that Wearing karas, tying shastars, even playing Paath, without faith is pointless. Replacing one ritual with another. Your only other choice is to go down the 'counter-jaddo' route where you will spend a lifetime lining the pockets of charlaton 'pundits, peers and babas' who will fleece you for every penny you own. You'll end up more frightened and paranoid, turning against family and friends. Every negative thing that happens in your life, you'll be conviced that someone has 'done something...' AAA
  4. Some men go to India and lie about their jobs and status to get married. Equally, though, some girls in India are just as devious, portraying a 'good' girl whose only ambition in life is to make her in-laws rotis everday. They believe we all live lives on luxury here and that they'll have servants when they arrive. Bit of a shock then when they do end up having to do some housework. Both sides need to be honest. If they were, then most of these marriages wouldn't go ahead in the first place.
  5. Imagine the state of mind Harominder must have been in. This Muslim guy has strung along this girl for years. Messed with her mind so much, put so much doubt into her mind that she's ready to reject everything, including her own family and religion. He's spent ages grooming her to believe that NOTHING else matters apart from him. It's not a huge jump then, for a fragile mind, to turn murderous is it? Wouldn't she have been mentally torturing her own parents by converting to islam? If that didn't matter to her then why would this poor pregnant girl? This guy created this monster and it's his innocent wife and baby that have suffered as a consequence. He should be locked up too but he'll probably just turn to the next stupid Sikh girl who will fall for his crap and believe that he's 'different' If there was any justice in this world then she would have used that knife to castrate him.

  7. You wouldn't need anyone's permission, but you would have to be prepared to make numerous trips to sort out an adoption. It can be a pretty long drawn out procedure. In terms of going along to help, then again you wouldn't need permission, but it may be advisable to contact a charity that has already been established and is reputable. That way you're not duplicating efforts and costs. AAA
  8. It's not possible to adopt the kids I have meantioned. Because they have been abandoned it means they have no paperwork. They are destined to spend their whole lives in these institutions. When they come of age, they will be transfered to adult institutaions, where conditions are just as bad. India has a number of child adoption agancies, but I know Pingalwara has an excellant record of arranging adoption for abandoned kids. They take the time to vett the families too, rather than trying to make money from the situation. See: http://www.pingalwaraonline.org/ AAA
  9. If anyone in the Midlands has old computer equipment that they no longer require, please contact me. There is a charity based in Hull which is collecting PCs and shipping them over to the orphanages in Bulgaria, and setting them up for the kids free of charge. I can meet people at their local gurdwareh for collection . When we have a decent number collected, Hubby will drive them down to Hull. The PC's need to be in working order if possible although i can arrange for small repairs to be done before they are shipped. Most people moved onto flat screens a while ago and so may have their old equipment stored away. The next shipment is middle of October. Please spread the word ASAP. Thanks  AAA
  10. I agree. I don't know if anyone watched the recent BBC4 documentary called 'Bulgaria's Abandoned Children'. It was about the country's abandoned children who are kept in State institutes. The children resemble concentration camp victims. Some examples of behaviour included: * A little girl called Vaski who was suffering from a broken leg. She was being manhandled by the staff who kept saying 'it's not that bad......' She was screaming with pain which was unsual in a place where the children remain silent at all times. * A deaf Teenage boy who played 'football' for an entire day with an empty crisp packet * A teenage girl called Didi who is mildly autistic has been told her mother is coming to get her. Day after day she packs her things and sits on a chair waiting for her mother to come, yet the mother will never come. Didi is slowly descending into madness, although she can speak there is no one to talk to her. * A member of staff regularly beating the young boys, but being careful to only attack the the dumb ones so they are never able to tell anyone. * The majority of staff are women yet the two male staff have the responsibilty of showering the teenage girls?????????????! * Babies who have had their thumbs amputated because they have become infected from long periods of sucking. * How children are fed, with a thin watery soup, more being shovelled into their mouths before thay have even swallowed. Gagging while they are eating desperately. * The ending scene where the journalist pats a little boy on his arm and he grabs her hand, kissing it and stumbles onto her laps. This is the first hug he has ever recieved. This scene will hant me until my end. * Because the children have special needs, they are considered by the staff as beyond help. Therefore there are no toys, eductational tools or stimulation of any kind. Almost all children constantly rock themselves for comfort. Some are mildly autistic, some merely blind or deaf. None are given any physical comfort at all. They are awoken, bathed, changed and made to sit on their beds all day, until bedtime, where they are locked into the dorm. Any cries in the night are ignored. Here are some links: http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcfour/documentaries...-children.shtml http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcfour/documentaries...e-blewett.shtml http://www.truevisiontv.com/abandoned.htm (The girl in the green sweater is Vaski) http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcfour/documentaries...sy-letter.shtml Did anyone watch this? Is anyone interested in helping? I'm so tired of the usual arguments occuring on forums, could we ever unite to help? AAA
  11. Sat Sri Akaal to all I'm looking for Sikhs living in the Hull area. I urgently require some information regarding a charity which is based there. Please contact me through this board or PM me. Thanks! AAA
  12. Which college are you studying at?
  13. Lotus flowers have unique characterictics of being a thing of great beauty and purity which thrives in the dirtiest of environments (namely murky and slimey swamps.) It's a way of expressing the amazing qualities of Guru Ji - how his feet are like lotuses, springing up in this polluted world, yet remaining pure. Probably not explaining that very well, but i hope you get my gist AAA
  14. "it does not have to do anything about sikhism .... one is its history ... and guru sahib want the sikhs that if they want to know about history they need not to search any hindu granth ....W I agree to a certain extent but i think it was more that the Hindu texts were in ancient languages which the common man could not understand. This meant that it was only the 'higher' caste people who understood them and the common man was at their mercy for translation. They, obviously, were able to put whatever spin they wanted to on history and teachings. By translating them, Guru Ji allowed access to the common man. Firstly, as you have stated, because Guru Ji wanted his Sikhs to learn about the great battles. Secondly, and I believe this is important, it was to show that all people are equal and that everyone should have access to spiritual knowlede. It is not only for the 'chosen' few through birth into a certain caste. I believe some Bhamin of the day would have been dismayed  Knowledge = power AAA
  15. When she was standing in a court about to be publicly raped, she needed protection. Her five worldy husbands could not help her - only her faith could. This isn't a simple story of men and women, it's a story which has a much deeper meaning. She had five husbands, we have five thieves......... AAA
