  2. I know this is late kumi but Ive heard a Singh doing katha about sahib siri guru hargobind ji maharaj. And the Singh was talking about how "fit" Guru ji is. Saying (in punjabi) that Guru jis face glows so much and that when all the Sikhs used to get together to practice shaster vidya, Guru ji was the most beautiful soorma out of the whole fauj, and not just because they were Guru ji but simply because they were naturally beautiful. The Singh (i think they were translating some puratan texts) was saying Guru ji's chest is really wide, broad shoulders, they're very strong and their kalgi has little diamonds on it that make their face glow even more. Even though the katha was in punjabi the Singh did say a few times that Guru ji's very beautiful, sundar, attractive, whatever you want to call it, and you could just look at them all day because their beauty is so stunning. (yes, thats our pita ji ) Ive heard other people say such things too. Not very sure what the word 'fit' implies but i think its fine waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh
  3. I have a Hindu friend who told me to listen to that song. He knows I dont really listen to music but was telling me its spiritual or something. I didn't know it was a singh singing it though I think the song does have a spiritual base and you have to appreciate that the video's unlike any other vid you will see in the bollywood/indian cinema, Ive been told that most indian or punjabi music videos today are worse than 'western' music videos. so. That's about it. Its good that videos like that can still exist waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh
  4. I think the ideal purpose it serves is just to uplift and inspire the sangat. Although there may be many non-Gursikh people who use the Nagar Kirtan for other reasons (like some people said above), there are still hundreds of people who benefit from Nagar Kirtans, in my opinion at least. Many gursikhs dress up in bana and do it with sharda and prem and they get a buzz from seeing all the Khalsa sangat, hearing all the kirtan, all the orange and blue everywhere and it reminds everyone of 1699, and when they themselves were given Amrit. For those who havent been given Amrit yet, nagar kirtans may inspire them to come closer to taking this step. It depends on what you do when youre there. If you stay around the Gurudwara or something and eat samosay the whole time, you may be more inclined to notice 'bad' things like the bibian who wear fancy red suits and whatever else. if youre walking in the nagar kirtan and soaking up in the sangat of gursikhs on the other hand, its a very different experience waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh

  6. READ THIS (its worth it): 25 MILLION SIKHS CELEBRATE THE MEMORY OF THE POPE WHO RALLIED TO THEIR SUPPORT AS A CHAMPION OF INTERFAITH AND HUMAN RIGHTS 2nd April 2005,London : 25 million Sikhs around the world remember the intrepid Pope John Paul II for his support for human rights when their religious freedom was attacked last year and twenty years earlier. ‘Last year Pope John Paul II threw his weight behind Sikhs to oppose the French government’s ban on religious signs, including the Sikh Turban, at schools, saying ''the government cannot be an arbiter in any religious matter.'', said Sameep Singh, inter-faith Director of UNITED SIKHS, a global human development organisation that works for the betterment of Sikhs globally. ''In other words, Governments should respect dignity of the human person and of his inalienable rights among which his right to adhere, practice and propagate his religion is fundamental. No Government should interfere with the inner core of any religion,'' the Pope had said in a message. The Pope’s message came after the Sikh community sought his intervention to oppose the French ban on the Sikh turban, an expression of the Sikh identity and faith. UNITED SIKHS led a petition campaign seeking the intervention of world leaders to persuade the French government to abandon its plan to pass the ban-law. Pope John Paul II said in a message, ''In recent times, we have witnessed in some European countries an attitude that could endanger the effective respect for religious freedom. Everyone may agree to respect the religious sentiment of individuals but the same can not be said of the religious factor, that is the social dimension of religions. It is nothing other than respect for all beliefs on the part of the State that assures the free exercise of ritual, spiritual and cultural and charitable activities by communities of believers.'' The Pope said a healthy dialogue between the Church and the State would encourage harmony in society. “The Pope’s contribution to interfaith dialogue made him a veritable saint-soldier whose influence on spiritual and temporal matters was phenomenal,” said Sameep Singh. Twenty years earlier, when the Sikhs’ holiest shrine in Amritsar, popularly known as the Golden Temple, was attacked by the Indian armed forces, the Pope did not mince his words in support for the human rights of thousands of innocent worshippers who had been killed during the attack. “In these days, the news has followed the ever more serious events in the state of Punjab. I do not want to go into the delicate and complex motives behind these disturbances in a great nation. But the sad fact is that the place where so many people met a tragic death is a temple where men gather in prayer. ”I address an immediate sentiment of human pity for all the victims with a call that a way to resolve the current strife can be found in a mutual understanding..." 11. gupt daasan daas is right. True sants will obviously tell you not to call them a Sant. A true sant, like Sant Jarnail Singh ji khalsa would tell you they're not a Sant, but that's out of humility and nothing more. Sant Ji used to call Sant Kartaar Singh ji "the sant"/ "sant ji" as well, so if someone's trying to say that Sant Jarnail Singh ji was against using that title, they're wrong jee not sure why people want to argue over these issues anyway bhul chuk maaf waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh
