  1. Would have been nice to have kept the palace there it looks grand in those paintings even if it does distract a little from the majesty of darbar sahib
  2. Very nice story, and important message that it only takes one good person to care that can help a person in trouble no matter how far they are they can make a difference. There are many internet trolls out there who get a buzz out of hurting others online, in a world where we are increasingly connected to people whom we would never be in real life it is important that we look our for vulnerable people in our community and others who may need our help.
  3. Correct, I've read accounts of british policy towards the Sikh government and the faith and they made it quite clear they were a white christian supremacist lot trying to subjugate India, its native inhabitants and the rest of the world. They were scared of getting into a war with the Sikhs because of their military might and prowess, so they did everything in their power to weaken the empire by paying off various people to side with them in the coming anglo sikh war. They like in present times in muslim countries gave rise to local rebellions against Sikh rule. It was all divide and rule tactics the likes we can see today in countries like Libya. Sikhs who join any non-sikh army be it british or indian are just fighting for governments who have no interest in honouring the sacrifice that these Sikhs make for the nation. Look at what the Indian governments did from 1947 to present day yet Sikhs were the back bone of the Independence movement and are still the backbone of the army. Yet the government sends these poor sods into battles and wars without getting anything for the Sikh community.
  4. Yup its a pretty disgusting thing to have done. But thats what British Christians of the past did to Sikhs and Punjab. They did that to many other parts of the world too especially africa destroying native communities, cultures and religions and enslaving the people to be subservient to the white European christian imperialist armed invaders.
  5. Shes a lowlife, however we dont know what community she belongs to there are alot of punjabi christians, hindu punjabi's and non-sikh ravidassia who use the name kaur and have punjabi names. So lets not attribute people like her belonging to our Sikh community.
  6. I think this speech is in regards to the Gurdwara in hardwaar that was destroyed in the 1984 genocide
  7. In reality most of the UK are not religious though they would define themselves affiliated to a religion. It's not just youths of Sikh background who are not interested much if you look at other faith groups they are doing everything under the sun the most hypocritical group are the muslims where they commit everything under the sun yet act religious or give themselves the perception they are good muslims just cos they may pray 5 times a day yet their character is disgusting. The least religious of the asian community are the hindu's who are very easy to convert especially the women for islamic fundamentalists. Until gurdwara committees are not taken over by the sikh youths and a focus of bringing back sikhi into the lives of people then things wont change. Gurdwara committee's are run by people who just see it as a way of having a salary an easy job they do very little to make sure we have strong foundations and a strong sikh community for the future. That generation of Sikhs has died out, we need ourselves to take over the reins and make sure we promote and live sikhi to the best of our individual abilities.
  8. The police must have done a poor job managing the march as in london the kirtans are lined with police who are highly efficient and effective managing traffic no car is allowed to disrupt the nagar kirtan and if anyone tries they police are right there to make sure the driver isnt let of lightly. Seems like the west midlands police didnt do their job properly. Maybe organisers in the west midlands nagar kirtans need to work closer with the authorities in how to manage traffic and if such an incident was to occur again the police would be there asap to make sure the driver is suitably dealt with in a manor that Sikhs would expect otherwise our hands are free to deal with the offender who tries to harm our community. Would be good if we can get a photo of this scumbag Jordon Ross so everyone is aware who he is
  9. I think it was a disgusting and outrageous eyesore to ever even dared to put a christian clock tower church at the heart of Sikhdom. I for one am glad that its gone. Had it been anywhere else in punjab I would not have minded but at darbar sahib was just smacks of religious and cultural white christian imperialism. Imagine Sikh army over running the Vatican in Italy and constructing a darbar sahib complex right next to the church there. It was a blatant attempt at christian missionaries to convert the former Sikh empire and its inhabitants to the ways of the christian western ideology. Not only Sikhs had to contend surviving Islamic hordes and Hindus trying to engulf them with their non-sikh ideologies and armies. Our ancestors also had to conduct with these Christian zealots from aboard. And to this day the christian missionaries are working hard to convert the inhabitants of punjab to Christianity with usual tricks and monetary incentives.
  10. fascinating read, thanks for sharing. I never took much notice of that palace building before in that painting but reading the extra information on it really puts a different insight on the darbar complex
  11. No idea who sartaj is any background information on him? Theres no harm having other faith people on Sikh channel just as long as they do not use the Sikh channel to promote other religious ideologies.
  12. Interesting article here http://www.sikharchives.com/?p=11084 but like with anything there is always two sides of the story so I dont believe everything thats written in that. However I am uncomfortable with non-sikhs using sikh names then claiming they were never Sikhs (like kartar singh khalsa claims) or are former Sikhs after making or trying to make money failed with their yoga or other business programs. I want those who use Sikh names or convert to Sikhism ...to have converted because of conviction of faith not cause they have some other agenda of undermining the faith or profiteering from the worldwide sangat for promotion of anti-sikh practices.
  13. These statistics are not from the national census survey but from labour force survey i believe the results of the census 2011 would be out in around 3-5 years time. And the number of Sikhs has risen +1.2 % according to that survey so daily mail have got it wrong about Sikhs but they are right about the falling number of believers in Judaism.
  14. I dont know what kind of Sikhism you follow but im sure gurbani does not accept homosexuality as it explicitly states a man marries a woman. Clearly implying only man and woman heterosexual relationships are the normal. There is no room for bestiality, homosexuality and pedophilia in Sikhism they are sexual deviations from the norm of human sexuality. In Hinduism these practices are acceptable you can read it all in the vedas. There is no hate here, I'm not expressing the killing or harming or banning of homosexuals as other faiths do. I think homosexuals are free to do as they wish as long as they do not impose or promote their sexual chosen lifestyle on others. Did you know homosexuals only account for 1% of the total population of the uk yet they want the most rights these days? there are more Muslims in the UK around 3-5% presently for god sake and they dont get the special treatment or protection that gays and lesbians seem to enjoy in our country these days. I have a very traditionalist approach to Sikhi, you may have a very liberal approach where anything goes...The 10th master was very strict with his Sikhs I doubt he would have approved defending people based on their sexuality. These people should keep their sexuality behind closed doors we do not need to know what they get up to.
  15. Being in a modern army de-sensetises a person and de-humanises them too. You join the army to defend your land and to kill the perceived enemies of that land. So we should not be celebrating his appointment it is no great achievement as India is not our nation yet, the day the keshri nishan sahib flag flies over the red fort in new delhi again maybe we can be proud of Sikhs holding office in a Sikh government.
  16. As toofana said daya for legitimate cases. Who I feel sorry for most is her parents who must have had high hopes for her to travel aboard and make a career for herself and send back some money only for her to resort to such measures and disgrace them. Many Punjabi families have financially ruined themselves by selling land and homes to send their offspring to western or middle eastern countries in order for their child wish to see the world or make better money only to find out that the conditions when they get to those countries are appalling. The streets are not paved with gold, people work like slaves just to make enough money for rent, food and survival never mind sending any back home to their families. So a tough message should be sent to people back home that there is no easy life in the west. You will have to literally prostitute yourself in order to survive as some indian / punjabi women have found out when they ignorantly thought they would find riches aboard. This amanpreet has declared herself a lesbian so let the homosexual community support her case she has nothing to do with us Sikhs now. Had India carried the death sentence or imprisonment for homosexuality then maybe she would have had a case but India doesn't so she got no case. Our support should be for Sikhs suffering real persecution and escaping from those regimes. I find it amazing Sikhs will support outlandish cases like lesbian/gay or Palestinian causes but will not raise their voice when legitimate cases of persecution of Sikhs are presented to them. A true Sikh always fights for his sikh brother and sister who are following the Sikh path not a homosexual or some other religious path because no one else fights for us.
  17. Had he injured anyone he would have been given a good beating and possibly lynched. We really need to start to draw up a database on these anti-sikh racist thugs. These incidents are far too common for us as a nation not to take notice.
  18. The dudley situation was an interesting one, I believe those in the satkaar campaign were in the wrong there. When they stormed the party hall and wreaked the place they did not use their brains and in the process made the Sikh community look like a bunch of violent thugs in front of the police and the media. Any provocation should have been dealt with calmly and restraint should have been shown to any insults by the opposition..... however if you are physically attacked.... then your hands are free to defend yourselves and let rip. But always have backup video journalists who are there on your side to record what went on because the only video and images we saw in the national press were of Singhs rushing in and wreaking the party hall. This type of brute force action does more harm to the community than good. PR is very important in the modern world to sway public opinion, it is a form of weapon that should be mastered and used against opponents of Sikhs. At the moment we are very much lacking in this department compared to other religious communities (ie hindu's, jew's and muslim's)
  19. This is a fake asylum case just an excuse by this woman wanting to remain in uk when she has no legal rights to. She knows her best chance is to claim shes lesbian and a religious one at that so she gets maximum support (which wont work with real sikhs). And she has made claims of being sexually assaulted very unlikely as most uk border agency officals are monitored closey and are professionals. She probably tried to marry a guy first off and when she couldnt find any uk citizen willing to marry her she thought now that gay marriage is allowed she'll get her friend to claim they are both lovers and had a civil partnership... It's cases like these that undermine the uk asylum system, where genuine refugee's are sent back to war torn countries while these kind of ppl find every loophole they can in order to live off and claim off us the tax payers.... As for india not being safe for homosexuals...I think it is pretty save if they can parade around in the streets of the capital openly during their annual gay pride day. No one saying anything to them, its their life as long as they aint shoving homosexuality in peoples faces and demanding outrageous equal rights (same sex marriage, adoption of kids, promotion of homosexuality in schools, etc) no one cares what they get up to. There are many closest homosexuals in India they keep their business to themselves no one cares, homosexuality has been around since civilisation began but it aint the norm of human sexuality thus its not normal and shouldn't be given elevated status like the western countries do.
  20. Indeed but in my eyes Sikhs come first. And being homosexual and sikh is not compatible therefore this woman has chosen her homosexual path....India doesnt ban homosexuality any more ....she is not one of us .....let the lesbian and gay community fight her corner... Sikhs should fight for and support those brothers and sisters who is holding the flag for Sikhs while living in hostile countries and facing almost daily persecution.
  21. You making it sound like shes being sentanced to death or something. What part of India no longer bans homosexuality any more didnt you get? My daya left for stupid asylum cases the day an afghan sikh refugee teen who was living in uk for years was deported to Afghanistan back in 2010 yet I didnt see you voice your concerns why was he deported? where was your daya then? I even posted that topic on here I believe on that day and didnt see many replies. My daya is only with those Sikh brothers and sisters who follow the Sikh path and have a genuine case. I would say those who are suffering from persecution are genuine cases not like this woman who is clutching at straws in desperate attempt to stay in the UK she should be deported asap and never let in the UK again.
  22. I think first the mindset of Sikhs need to change in this world nothing can be achieved without being political aware and involved. We are now creating generations of Sikhs who are not political and do not understand that being political involved is key to protecting our religious rights and our freedoms even in the west let alone india or other nations. Once we are involved in politics we become a threat to the established powers who want to maintain their own top dog status so will try every means at their disposal to undermine you....which was the case in India when Sikhs demanded equal rights and jobs and an end to discriminatory polices in their own homeland in regards to employment and religious rights. They were ignored but small concessions were made by various indian prime ministers after mass agitations were launched which threatened the stability and transportation of wheat grain out of punjab. This is when the government of India took notice and launched various schemes to divide the Sikh political powers and subvert their interests. After killings of peaceful protesters by the Indian authorities started to occur and major violations of Sikhism went without investigation or punishment... it is then we had great scholarly and military leaders like sant jarnail bhindranwale stand up against these injustices by the exercise of arms (as m.k.gandhi had promised the Sikhs if they ever felt threatened in the Indian Union). We do not need any permission to carry arms and exercise them in a just and righteous manor if we live under Sikh rule but at the moment we do not which is why every Sikh needs to get political in India and even in pakistan and afghanistan to safeguard their rights. And here in the west we also need to get political to ensure our basic freedoms and civil liberties are maintained and we gain further rights (ie the right to carry and use arms in defence of oneself) because at the moment we often are at the mercy of criminal thugs, muggers who go out attacking robbing innocent civilians yet often go without punishment or when caught given little soft sentences for them to re-commit that crime.
  23. Homosexuality is against Sikh principles so she cant play the religious card. If she wants to be lesbian thats her choice but she cant claim to be a Sikh then they are two different lifestyle and paths in life. There was a report on the BBC news channel of indian illegal immigrants who want to return back to india living under motorway bridges in west london in miserable conditions they are begging to go back to india but cant because they destroyed their documents and the uk border agency cant deport them as they need cooperation from the Indian high commission who are reluctant to take them back as they cant prove if their indian or not. These illegal economic immigrants think its an easy life in the west and money grows on tree's but when they get here they realise the true harsh reality and how hard people have to work just to ensure they have a roof over their heads.
  24. Ulhasnagar tense after clashes Kiran Sonawane, Hindustan Times Ulhasnagar, March 01, 2012 The police have arrested two people for allegedly inciting violence and filed a complaint against 200 others for protests following the incident where two persons tried to set fire to the Shahid Baba Deepsingh Ji Gurudwara on Tuesday. Harinder Singh Matharu, president of Gurunanak School, Kalyan and the Sikh community leader, said on February 26 night around 3 am two people entered the gurudwara and threw burning clothes where the Gurugranth Sahib was kept. He said two karsewaks, Murarisingh Khalsa, 35, and Satpalsingh Goud, 46, who were sleeping outside the gurudwara saw two people running away but could not catch them. After the news spread people from the community from all over Thane district started pouring into Ulhasnagar and staged an impromptu protest. For the last 15 years, there has been an ongoing dispute Gurudwara committees over land. DCP Dr Shivajirao Rathod said the police have arrested one Suresh Singh and are looking for his brother Rakesh for inciting violence. Rathod said investigations into the case continue. http://www.hindustantimes.com/India-news/Maharashtra/Ulhasnagar-tense-after-clashes/Article1-819115.aspx
  25. She should have been deported ages ago she has no excuse to stay in the UK now as India declared homosexuality not illegal she would have had a case had India had banned homosexuality. There are alot of shameless fake cases of asylum like these especially by pakistani, saudi and iranian illegal immigrants who pretend to be gay/lesbian just to get some sympathy knowing there is little chance of them being deported as islamic countries carry death sentenance for homosexuality. If they feared for their lives they could have gone to Turkey which is a liberal muslim nation right next door to fundamentalist muslim nations instead of thousands of miles away western countries. What these left wing socialists should have done was stopped was the deportation the afghan Sikhs especially the teens who came to uk to seek asylum from talban rule only to be deported when the UK government deemed it safe for them to go back home. How is it safe there for religious minorities? When even UK and NATO troops are not even safe and they are deporting our Afghan sikh brothers and sisters like they are animals.
