1. I’m not disputing the fact that facial hair can be a symptom of an underlying medical condition (refer back to my post and you’ll see I have stated this). By all means consult a doctor, as its best to be sure about something rather than assuming nothing is wrong. The point I am trying to make is facial does not mean there is definitely something wrong, I have facial hair and I have seen my doctor about it (have had all the tests), there is nothing wrong with me, there is no medical condition that I have but I happen to have facial hair. In reference to doing some research on the topic, I have done a lot of research on it. There are a number of conditions for which facial hair can be a symptom but sometimes people get facial hair because it just happens.
2. What I can’t understand is why people refer to facial hair as ‘unnatural’ or as if its something that’s wrong. Guess what, it comes naturally, no one can do anything to make hair grow and nor can one do anything to stop it growing (unless you take things into your own hands). How many people grew their own hair? How many people who say hair is unnatural caused their own hair to grow? I’m a female with facial hair and I don’t see anything wrong with it and neither do my family and friends yet I continue to see people looking at this topic as though it is something negative. Yeah so I don’t look a lot of the other women around you, maybe I don’t look like what YOU expect a woman to look like, but guess what I’m 100% what God has made me and I couldn’t be happier. As some people have mentioned, facial hair could be a symptom of an underlying condition and it is important that one goes to see their GP. Even if someone does take medication etc it will not remove any hair that is already there, if that is removed it is done by choice, medication will not do that it will balance out hormones. Making comments like ‘its unnatural’ and go get an injection (I know you did not imply it so bluntly) will not help anyone who is in a situation where they do not know what to do about the way they look. Facial hair is nothing to be embarrassed about; its God’s gift to you unless you feel media has a better idea of what one should look like. By all means consult a doctor but don’t be put off or feel bad about something people refer to as unnatural. Who knows best at the end of the day, God or the world? Apologies in advance in case anything I say offends as that is not my intention.
3. I've highlighted the part of your message that I'm referring to; if the subject is not conscious then will they really have a choice in that situation? For example if someone who is a Sikh is in a life threatening situation, will the people trying to help consider what the person may want or will they go straight into trying to save the persons life? If the first aider is a Sikh or knows about Sikhi then they may be aware of how important hair is for a Sikh, but if they are not aware, then will the subject really have a choice?
4. All the books mentioned on the following link are excellent. Inspirational Books on Sikhi
5. Apologies for my lack of knowledge on the subject but can’t someone else ‘commission a report’? I ask this as there is so much concern regarding the whole restoration project, is it not possible to take the required action independently? 104970 Please do not apologise it is good to see people taking an interest in maintaining our heritage Anyone could commission a report, but experts have criticised the Soho Road plating anyway so perhaps it is best they commission a report so they are forced to take action. Otherwise they just going to do what they have been doing over the years and deny the reports findings. 104987 Oh rite, I see where you’re coming from but considering you said, ‘The issue has been raised with Bhai Sahib Mohinder Singh Ji by various people but it is like speaking to a brick wall.’ Would it not be viable to have a report commissioned (independently) just so that there is solid evidence for people who don’t accept that the job done is detrimental to the building. If there is independent evidence that shows that changes need to be made before irreversible damage takes place, it may help get the attention that’s required (both public and of those who carried out the work). If there is no direct evidence to suggest there is anything wrong, the criticism the work is receiving may be perceived as trivial and unfounded information.
6. Apologies for my lack of knowledge on the subject but can’t someone else ‘commission a report’? I ask this as there is so much concern regarding the whole restoration project, is it not possible to take the required action independently?

8. If you Love God and Maharaaj so much then wouldn’t you want to do what Maharaaj has prescribed as far as Kirtan is concerned? This isn’t an attack towards you; I’m just interested in where you’re coming from as far as your comments are concerned.
9. Bollywood is a money making industry, it produces fictitious films that are aimed are pleasing the masses and making money. They are not bothered about showing both sides to a story or giving anyone (be it a nation, religion or whatever) a fair representation, as far as they are concerned if an idea makes them money then its good to sell. It’s a film industry; they make fictitious films not documentaries. If you want real representation than the only way to get that is to make our own films that depict the characters and stories that you want the world to see. Peace.
10. I'm not actively defending the film in question nor Bollywood, I have merely pointed out that whatever is being shown is not too far off the mark as far as reality is concerned. I have not said its ok for them to do this, just because I feel they are showing an aspect what happens to be going on in reality does not mean that I am defending them. Peace.
11. Well aren’t the people who label themselves as a Sikh yet smoke/drink and whatever else the people doing the beadbi? So films show something that is real but not what we believe to be a real representation of a Sikh, don’t you think the source of the problem (i.e. the people who label themselves as a Sikh yet smoke/drink) needs to be addressed and educated rather than attempting to control which ‘Sikhs’ are allowed to be portrayed? There are a number of people who cut their hair who wear a Kara yet when this is shown on screen its wrong but we have people like that in front of us everyday. We have people who cut their hair who wear a Khanda around their neck, but again when this is shown on screen its wrong, why when there are people exactly like that in the real world who say they are Sikh.. When we have these people in the real world why protest when they are shown in the reel world? I’d understand if what they were showing was all lies and that everyone who has the label of a ‘Sikh’ lived like a Sikh, but in reality we all know that’s not true. Like I said earlier, if an Amritdhari is shown in the wrong way then I agree to protesting against the work, if someone who labels themselves as a Sikh yet drinks/smokes is shown, is that really a lie as far as reality is concerned? Maybe its time we start to look at why these people are being shown (how many well known Sikh role models are there in this day and age?) Peace.
12. How many of us know someone who label themselves as a Sikh, use the name Singh/Kaur and they smoke, drink and more? I for one know many people like this, and so when there are people about like those being portrayed in films how is Bollywood showing anything wrong? It may not be what we think is a Sikh but there are people out there who say they are Sikh’s who do all that. I am not for or against Bollywood but at the end of the day there are many people about like those being shown in films as a Sikh who label themselves as a Sikh in real life, so is Bollywood really that far off the mark? We all know the situation of Punjab at the moment regarding drugs, how many people with the name Singh are getting high as we speak? Yea, if they were to show an Amritdhari smoking or what not then we would have something to complain about, but considering what they show isn’t a lie, what seems to be the problem? Not all Sikh’s are like those being shown, but at the same time not everyone who claims to be a Sikh is like what we would like a Sikh to be.. Peace.
13. Go to sleep at a decent hour and you'll have no problems getting up when your alarm goes off. If you are not getting enough sleep then you'll obviously not be able to get up when you would like to. The 'network' idea also works well. 2 friends and I used to ring each other, and because you know you have to ring someone else you make more of an effort to get up. Do Ardas to Maharaaj for kirpa so that you can wake up :-)
14. I think the thread below ties in with the topic being discussed here, http://www.sikhsangat.com/index.ppa?showtopic=10843 Its not just about the random person taking pics at home no more
15. What happened to talking?! First find out the reasons behind the pictures and then think about what you want to do. It may be a simple case of misunderstanding things and education regarding Sikhi and the symbols used may solve it. Sometimes it’s a case of the person simply not knowing where to draw the line in regards to what’s acceptable and where things are taken too far. If upon communication you do find it’s more to do with causing offence and not as mentioned above then other steps may need to be taken. Lashing out at someone for doing something you/we perceive as offensive will leave him or her none the wiser as to why they have been attacked if it does happen to be a mistake on their part. Use your brain before jumping into using violence.
16. Its not about replacing your Kara with one of these wrist bands.. It’s simply about wearing one to show that you support a cause (and most causes behind these bands are valid). Its abit like paying for a red nose on Red Nose day or wearing a red ribbon in support of the AIDS campaign, it doesn’t make you any less of a Sikh if you show you support something. One doe's not have to remove/replace their Kara or anything to support a cause..
17. '75% of all money donated will go to anti-racism projects and initatives around Europe' so from a 'Stand up Speak up' (Nike) band thats 37.5p going to Nike from every sale (bands cost £1.50) and 112.5p to charity. - www.standupspeakup.com The money raised through the yellow 'LiveStrong' bands goes towards the 'Lance Armstrong Foundation which provides information and tools that people with cancer need to live strong' - www.wearyellow.com
18. And what is this belief of yours based upon? Bani or what? Peace.
19. Before anyone starts to get all heated up and the name-calling starts, it may be an idea to find out who put that up, and find out if that person knows anything about Sikhi/Ik Onkar. If they do not it could be a simple mistake of simply not knowing which way the Ik Onkar should be (we are humans after all and honest mistakes can be made). There are no excuses for offensive actions but before pointing fingers and making accusations it may be an idea to get the full story behind what’s happened, instead of charging full steam ahead and consequently making a fool of not only yourself but Sikh’s as a whole as your actions represent us all in cases such as this. Peace.
20. I have Salok Mahala 9 by Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. Mail me to let me know how you want to get them off me (eg msn etc). Peace.
