  1. Theres a website called www.eatbibek.com It has alot of research n foods which u can eat.
  2. To love waheguru, u have to know waheguru. So go on a quest to learn about waheguru. See wat each religion says about who waheguru is. To learn about waheguru in sikhi, read gurbani, it will tell you about wat waheguru looks like, what he does, whats his personality, and what he expects from us. Gurbani only talks about two things: waheguru and how to get to him. So read, learn, and fall in love. Try Sri Granth: Sri Guru Granth Sahib http://www.srigranth.org/servlet/gurbani.gurbani?Action=Page&Param=1
  3. Also you can visit a gurudwara in the holidays. Christmas, thanksgiving, and New Years holidays are coming up. You can plan a road trip to the nearest gurudwara. You can google them or find them on worldgurudwara.com. i dont know if that website still exists or if i typed it right, but i think google n google maps will work.try googling sikh temple if gurudwara doesnt yield any results. Also u can try to attend samagams. They r like 3 day long events where international ppl come, so they usually have transportation and accommodations for staying. They have buses n picking up from airports....again u will have to google. Some sites u can look into are akj.org, dodra samagams, summer solstice by 3HO ppl Another thing u can do is attend sikh retreats. They r like religious camps, very fun, open, outdoorsy, yet have gurudwara sessions evening and mornings. Most r in english now. At christmas time there is West Coast Sikhi Camp for 4 days in California. For the price of 200, they will give u cabin, food, activities, n maybe free bus to pick up if u live closeby. There is chardi kala camp near New York. Khalsa camp in uk....i bet theres lots more that u can google.
  4. There is this sakhi: A family had SGGS saroop at home and didalot od seva and had alot of sharda. However they had a really small bad for gurus sukhasan. So one day their little daughter was in the babas room. And the 10th guru appeared on the bed n tried to sleep, but clearly the bed was too small. Then disappeared. The girl ran to tell her parents n they rushed to get a bigger bed that day. When asked how the guruji looked, the girl said just like the picture. And thats so she could recognize guruji. Guruji will appear in watever form u have sharda in. If u ask to see their real form ,you can see that too. Also guru gobind singh ji as baala pretam gave darshan as krishan to a pundit at patna sahib
  5. Sorry i dont have any verifiable info either, and all the versions that ive seen of dukh bhanjani sahib seem similar unlike rehraas sahib. But i think its a composition similar to another bani called sukhmana sahib. This bani is actually a collection of different shabads that occur in the same raag, theme, and angs of SGGS. It is not given a name in SGGS, and its seems to be sikh made meaning sikhs/ mahapursh just recited it and gave it a name. The same seems true for dukh bhanjani sahib: its mostly shabads in i think raag gaori, and similar theme, and some due occur on same ang.
  6. Yesterday my cousin whos studying at a samparda claimed that its not against sikhi to marry more than once. When i quoted eka naari jati hoe, he said eka is plural, when i explained thats ridiculous n eka is feminine, finally he said the gurus wouldnt marry more than once if they had told us not to.....so keeping in mind there r ppl like that.......where does it forbid marrying ur cousin in sikhi? Yes i know its against sikh norms but only because we have taken aspects of panjabi culture as the norm. I bet among sindhi sikhs, this is a normal sikh practice
  7. First of all, babur wasnt the first invader, Muhammed Gazini, Taimur, n others would loot n leave way before mughul dynasty. I think because panjab was the gateway, it was harder to defend and also hindu rajas after the first defeat just gave up.on sebsequebt invasion, they would just go into hiding or make tribute to invaders. The tribute would consist of money n sometimes the hand of their daughters. Then when mughal dynasty came, they became courtiers, so they sold out the ppl to keep their positions. Have u watched Jodha Akbar the movie? The rajput maharana partap was fighting the mughals, and another rajput married his daughter, jodha,to the mughal king to keep his kingdom. The maharana was so mad at the betrayal of his own rajputs. Also when he was in hiding from the mughals, and starving, the other rajputs wrote a letter saying, please don't surrender, you r the only one whos kept rajput anakh alive, we have sold ourselves, dont surrender. I dont blame the ksatriyas for surrendering, the mongols were amazing horsemen, and had the most advanced cavalry. They were also brutal, whichever kingdoms did not surrender, they would burn everything down and kill everyone even the pets.
  8. I think the sikh khatris marry within family because they r originally from kabul/ Afghanistan area and in muslim lands its ok to marry your cousins and also because as traders they had to settle in foreign lands, and so to marry within their religion meant marrying in their family.
  9. I dont know. But i think its a straight translation, because they r very defensive about it. I would like to read it n compare it to the dasam granth version. Ive watched the whole mahabharat series, it reminded me alot of helen of troy war with a bit of dharmic concepts thrown in. It shows the weakness of the hindu/ vedic based society. Like when the pandus couldnt refuse any challenge cuz they were kshtris n so ended up losing their raaj. How ganga putr bisham, couldnt do the right thing because of his bachan/ pratigya. And how the vazier n karan r treated as low just cuz of their caste.
  10. Also negative stereotypes of the other caste, is another big reason. Like when ppl have said gurbani says there is no caste, ppl usually say ya but the mazbis used to eat dead animals n dont stay that clean. Or that paape r stingy, jats r violent bozos. A khatri woman who married a jat, said her mom was worried that the jats might burn her or kill her after marriage cuz its in the news so much.
  11. Mcauliffe, Sant singh maskeen, bhai vir singh, Atam Marag inc, and also you can read sooraj parkash and panth parkash in english now, turiya charity is selling beautiful illustrated and translated volumes.
  12. A sikh tries to learn about and live an ideal life. Worldly and spiritually, a sikh will try to live the most honorably, kindly, and highest life. A sikh should aim for the pinnacle of spirituality, but not forget his duty to family and society: To uplift those that have it the worst. Like sukha singh uk says, A Sikh is a person through whose actions, we can see the Guru ( the Gurus ideal teachings shining forth) and the Guru is the one we can see God through ( see the attributes of God personified, see the ultimate kindness and care for humanity)
  13. Yes but the panth also got rid of them n stopped using them and now they r being reintroduced. Im not saying they were not used in the past, im saying they should not be reintroduced on the basis of 'it was done in past so we must do so now' we can either deny this happened in the past, which is getting harder to do, ( because it creates more divisions n doubts n the denying has moved up to dasam granth n to even SGGS ji) so our only option seems to be to acknowledge their were faults in our ancestors, which we should accept if we r willing to accept n live off of their greatness. Also like u mentioned those times were grim n these tools were maybe needed, but we dont at this time. If opium is afeem, im not surprised it was used. Alot of painkillers today are derived from opium n also in panjab it is considered a legit medicine. My dad was forcing me to take it some time back as protection against the cold, as its supposed to be very 'garam' and my dads amritdhari n he was like we dont mind eating nashe in medicine n this is same thing but purer blah blah. But i didnt as it would be against the chaar kurehits. I understand in extreme circumstances or for a righteous cause.... Ive also heard alcohol is a very good antiseptic, to prevent infection in wounds, so i think it would have been a good idea to carry some in the old days...but ppl now a days would use this as evidence to undermine rehit.
  14. As a person who struggled to reconcial our written history with sikh ethos, this is the attitude i had to adopt as well. Thank you for putting it into words. We have to stop denying historical facts n accept the faults and greatness of our ancestors. Also have to stop idolizing em n stop trying to emulate the past: wat with bhang n meat being reintroduced into the panth on the basis of these granths. Gatka teams, whose martial arts skills n battle ready skills r already questionable, n have no useful skills r starting to use marijuana. They gonna become even more useless religious amlis.
  15. I think sikhi is both. It takes u from bhagti marg to gyaan marg. But most ppl get stuck in the first stage. And we r not teaching ppl how to get beyond the first stage
  16. Please forgive me in advance, i am not a knowledgeable person. When starting a sehaj paath, i have been told to do ardaas with deg. But ardaas should be done in front of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jis full saroop. So do the beginning ardaas not with sanchiya or computer. In ardaas say, i will be starting a sehaj paath, please bless me with sumat n help me to do it right. Then take hukamnama. Then read 1st ang of Sri guru granth sahib ji or at least 5 pauriyan of japji sahib. Then say fateh n give out prashaad/degh. After this, u can do sehaj paath anywhere, on computer, mobile phone, sanchiya. Just cover ur head n sit in high, clean place. You can do as many angs( pages) u want. Just remember to end at the end of a shabad or pauri. Do not leave off in middle of a shabd or pauri. So the end always has word nanak and lots of numbers. Then say the last 2 lines twice n say fateh. When u get to end, near ang 1426. U will need to again make deg, n do these last angs on full saroop of sggs. N do ardaas n hukamnama
  17. To learn speaking, practice speaking. Try to only speak panjabi with ur friends and family. Also try to talk to elders at gurudwara or elsewhere who know punjabi n can correct u. Secondly, try to read panjabi books, newspapers, and easy panjabi material like kaiday to build up your vocabulary. Also build up ur gurbani vocabulary. For example the tuk Jo Tao Prem Khelan Kaa Chaoo, Sir Tar Talee Galee Meri Aao. Get each word n learn its meaning. Jao=if, tao=you, Prem=love, khelan=play/ game, kaa= possessive pronoun, chaoo=desire, sir= head, tar=place, talee=palm, galee= path/alleyway, meri=mine, aao=come. You will have to read the english translation n then try to figure our what each gurmukhi word means. Then read in gurmukhi until it clicks in ur head n u can understand it in gurmukhi, and the meaning comes to ur mind in gutmukhi. If u desire to play the game of love, come to my path with ur head on ur palm. Then if u remember these words, u can use them to figure out more gurbani tuks like: PREM LAGO HAR TEER. So english translation is I have been pierced by the arrow of love for God. So u already know prem is love, now figure out the rest. Har=God, Teer=arrow, lago= means hit/wounded so in this case pierced. The more u do this, the more ur vocabulary will grow, and the easier it will become to translate and understand gurbani. And when that happens, its a great feeling, it seems as if the guru is talking to you. And gurbani becomes sweeter and we can feel the beautiful poetry as well. Also u can try to take santhiya. It helped me alot. Cuz not only do they cover pronunciation but meanings as well. Dont give up. Even a white, dutch guy began to understand gurbani after trying. Hes called the man in blue, look him up. He would read english translations n gurbani and after awhile, he said guru nanak started speaking directly to me. Thats how it feels to understand gurbani. Also try to get gurbani apps, that allow multiple translations in english n panjabi, that will make it easier for u to figure out wat each word means. I think igurbani has like 2 english translations n like 4 panjabi translations. U can turn off the ones u dont like n turn them on, if the one ur reading makes no sense. Faridkot teeka, i think, tells u meaning of each word in panjabi, i think. Use that as well
  18. Dont worry about kesh yet, work on building ur prem first. Only when ur absolutely sure youcan handle this rehit n r sure about this path, only then keep kesh n take amrit. Too mant ppl r taking amrit n then not following rehit. Go slowly. First learn to do paath of gurbani, simran, read about sikhi, learn about history. Also do the same for Christianity. Start applying wat you like from either faith to ur life. And after research, going to church n gurudwara, applying the religions, u should be able to tell which religion is for u. Learn to do wat a sikh is supposed to do without looking like a sikh first. So follow the 3 rules: naam japna, meditation, earn a honest living, share with others. Also do japji sahib and rehraas sahib daily. Try both out, learn, have fun with it.

  20. Since u already tried the parents route n it didnt work, u have to talk to ur sister. She will get angry, but still u have to warn her of the pitfalls of her behavior After that do paath n ardaas for her to come to the right path. That is the most u can do for her. Do this n stop stressing out. The rest is on her and Waheguru
  21. Directly from my Biology 22 Human Physiology textbook: Exogenous THC obtained by smoking marijuana impairs attention, learning, and memory; some studies suggest that, in chronic marijuana users, this impairment may persist even after the drug is no longer in the body. These deleterious effects, particularly on "working memory" ( the ability to hold and process bouts of information), limit the therapeutic uses of THC, which include treatments for pain, nausea, and other conditions. More concerning, evidence suggests that the frequent use of marijuana decreases IQ points significantly, and even more so if the person starts using marijuana during the teenage years.
  22. Listen to The Difference Between Gold And Dirt - ਸੋਨੇ ਅਤੇ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਦਾ ਫਰਕ by Bhai Sahib Singh #np on #SoundCloud https://soundcloud.com/bhaisahibsingh/the-difference-between-gold-and-dirt
  23. I like Sobha/ Shoba Kaur and Raam Kaur..or even Raamrang kaur
  24. Ive watched it. He really doesnt have any arguements. Hes basically saying because Sikhi "came" from Hinduism, it must be corrupted. Also that sikhi mentions that god could have thousands of eyes or heads. He could found nothing wrong in the teachings or history of the sikhs, so just tried to defame it on those grounds. Anyways, a couple of youtubers have already responded to him. BasicsofSikhi and another channel. You shud look it up
  25. People stop being judgemental. We think if we were in her (OPs) position, we would appreciate her husband more and do alot of sangat and simran together. But thats not true. How many times have our parents or a gursikh or some kathavachak told us to do paath and we dont. Cuz its boring. I remember if some high avastha person comes to our house, he will want to tell us do paath, simran, but all we wanted to do was talk about when will Khalistan come, and wat ridhi sidhis we get.
