  1. :D @ Sardar jokes. This got to be an Indian thing. I never heard a sardar joke here in the west. How does the 12 o'clock joke goes? Can someone tell me the actually joke here? I never heard the proper version of this joke before. As you can tell, I don't watch Indian movies nor do I follow Indian culture.
  2. What if one is trying to learn, but on a slower pace? Would you still consider him/her a Sikh then? Who is exactly can be a Sikh? I think we need to find a good definition of who is a Sikh from the Sikh leaders and Sikh scholars. These type of questions need to be answered ASAP.
  3. Whats wrong with those UK people! Stop with your generalisations Link! Well, let's be honest here. Sikhs in the UK converting a lot these days. Look how many threads we have on this issue on this website? Point being that this isn't an isolated case. Sikhs (especially Sikh girls) are leaving sikhi for "love" or in this case, education. It is quite sad to read these types of articles on the net.
  4. in my ancestral village in Jalandhar, there is a christian school where all the church going christian kids get free eduaction, but all the sikhs have to pay. so in my village there are a few sikh families that have started to go to church so so theie kids can get free education. the state school in the village is rubbish, and no-one wants theie kids to go there. This aint new. Yeah, I know that Punjab is having this problem, but here in the west, education is free until college. Public schools aren't bad at all in the west. So this shouldn't be even an issue for us people living in the west.
  5. Although it could be put a bit better (lol) you make a strong point. Often those who really push for arranged marriages are also behind the honour killing crap when things go wrong. It might go down in the pind but here in the west we actually lose our honour when they plaster this all over the media. Look at the stupid buddhi who took her daughter in law back home and had her strangled in the UK for example. Yeah and your point about pressure to stay in abusive relationships is also valid. But you know plenty of arranged marriages work so I wouldn't totally knock them. Anyway, you can say "love" marriages workouts fine as well. Not all love marriages end up in a divorce. Getting divorce is very common now here in the west, but back 30+ years ago, divorce was an uncommon thing in the west, but yet people back then still got married based on love not through arranged marriages. So to say love marriages is bad because the current divorce rate is wrong. Love marriages aren’t the reason why divorce rates are high in the west. It is a lot of people these days don’t have good morals and are getting married for wrong reasons (like money) are the reason why divorce rate is high these days. Also I like to say that divorce is a taboo in Indian community. So desis who are married, but want a divorce not end up doing it because they’ll be look down on by other Indians. Also, some couples don’t get divorce because they want their kids to live in a family like environment. So they put up with each other just sake of their kids.
  6. LOL @ stats! :D Man, arranged marriages are only performed by pindus! These people also believe in "honour killing" and other strange rituals. Also, these people don't believe women have equal rights. If anything, men always have the last word in the house. Remember that women always stick to their men in "pindu" culture no matter what. So to compare arrange marriages to "love" marriages is useless. It is like comparing apples and oranges.
  7. The funny thing is that Kuldip Manak isn't even a Jatt.
  8. Toronto FC! My fav. English club: Don't have one. lol I need to find a team to root for.
  9. I think the reason why people refer SGPC rehit as "Panthic Maryada" because their rehit has been approved by Akal Takht. I believe SGPC is the only rehit approved by Akal Takht.
  10. Nope. Maybe I should check his interview out. Check this out. Part two is somewhere there too. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=w4y_NOV9FZk&...ted&search= Thanks for the link. Cheers!
  11. We all are humans! :D Well that's a start!!!! Fine, I will say it. We all come from Sikh backgrounds.
  12. Kuldip Manak and his family use to be Muslims, but then converted to Sikhi.
  13. Yeah, I agree. I don't think youth preaching about Sikhi to adults is a good way to teach them about Sikhi. Do you think maybe Punjabi media can play a role here? I find that using the media will be the most effective way to get your messages across to people.
  14. what are you on about man? Most i have met in Canada aren't even from the jatt background. Really? What part of Canada did you meet these amritdharis?
