  1. First Name: Bibek Last name: Singh (means Lion, who fears no one) - Last name for sikh people - this is not pertaining to any one caste, better to use this one rather than going deep into other last names as they are based on different castes. Also your work would not be just for sikhs, but for much wider range of readers, so "Singh" would automatically recall them that this character is coming from a Sikh background. Bib- means duality Ek - means One To shun the duality / agitation of mind, by being steady and positive from inside and be with HIM or Bibek = intellect or wisdom of conscious principles & divine intelligence This name is unique, not many people share this name. Hope this helps. I''m pretty sure other memebers would provide you with more options to choose from. Good Luck and Thank You for choosing a Sikh character with so much of depth in it. Please do provide us with details once it's completed.

  3. try putting dhesi gheo (ghee) instead of unsalted butter...... while boiling water by adding sugar.....don't boil it too much that it becomes "taar wali chaani"......boiling is just to disolve sugar in water.....
  4. http://www.littlesikhs.com/
  5. waheguru ji...try to cut down on sugar and salt.....drink more water as it'll help empty extra fat inside......drinking less water tend to make fat more solid and permanent.....make this a daily habit..... also drink - squeez a lemon in 1 glass "warm to hot" water empty stomach every morning....
  6. waheguru ji why are you distorting Gurbani.........it's not "jor jugat na choote sansar"....and BTW why didn't you copy paste this one like you always do????????????? Gurbani says ਜੋਰੁ ਨ ਜੁਗਤੀ ਛੁਟੈ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥ every pankti has many meanings......Gramatical aspect should not be ignored....... ਜੋਰੁ ਨ ਜੁਗਤੀ, ਛੁਟੈ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥ - meaning.......one can't attain liberation / mukti by force or power......or by doing any other stuff like yoga like sidh-jogis used to do / sraadh / pakhand.......... Second one, ਜੋਰੁ ਨ, ਜੁਗਤੀ ਛੁਟੈ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥ - liberation can't be attained by force or power but by "the technique" and this technique or jugti is "simran / meditation" (Sant Baba Isher Singh Ji Rarha sahib) everyone must watch / listen to Giani Thakur singh ji's santheya of Gurbani..... here's another example......"Saadh ke sang nahi kich ghaal" from sukhmani sahib,,,, "Sadh ke sang, nahi kish ghaal"........you don't have to work hard if you do sangat of sadhu mahapurkh secondly "sadh ke sang nahi, kish ghaal" - this one I heard from Sant Baba Gurdev Singh ji Nanaksar wale, to whom Sant Baba Isher Singh ji Kalerawale gave his duties.....meaning just mere sitting by mahapurkhs wouldn't get you anything, you have to work hard.... Now this second meaning doesn't mean that one should not do mahapurkh's sangat........this is their nimrata.....many people will not respect and love mahapurkh from heart but will sit with them for the sake of name-fame and so-called "chaudhar"......this kind of sangat won't get you anything..... that's why mahapurkh sangat is important because we get to realiize deeper meanings of what Gurbani tells us as our own "dimaag" is not that grown-up yet...... sorry to take the topic off topic...but it was important..... Yoga is good only until it's followed the gurmat way.....if it's followed to too much extent like sidh / jogis tried to do by closing all 9 dwars forcefully to open 10th...won't work..... everything has 2 aspects......good and bad......

    Prayer?

    Op ji....well it's the fact that doing it by oneself and lestening are twoo different things and doesn't give that much anand.....but when listening you can actually recite bani in your mind or mouth at the same time.......and this is just an option while utilizing the time on train or car...if one doesn't have time to sit down and relish the bani................ for ardas, waheguru ji it's important in the sense that we are actually asking for forgiveness for the mistakes we might have done while doing path....and for anything you have in mind.........anything like bhul chuk maaf, sarbat da bhala, panth di chardikala, etc.....just like talking to Guru sahib.......ardas can be done anytime or all the time....meaning no boundation.....sikhs jeewan should be an ardas.....24/7 Guru sahib naal gallan kari jawe .....ehi galaan ardas ban jandian ne.....same like chaupai sahib like abpve veerji said....anytime......it's only rehras sahib and keertan sohila to be done at dawn and night......rest of bani's can be done whole day if you want,,,,,I am not saying it shouldn' be done at amritwela....but for some reason based on individuals situations if this isn't possible.......it can be done any time...... keertan sohila, is basically the composition of "protection" / "rakheya" shabads,,,,,and stuff like ghosts, fear, darkeness, bad dreams or anything bad in realityb doesn't happen.... and it depends on you how much path you want to do...you can start with whichever path you like to do....and waheguru ji will endow HIS kirpa and you'll automatically start on the reast of banis...... .....take it easy.........if you start pushing it on yourself, your mind and interest might start running away from it.........like a spring...... Guru bhalla kare

  11. "Singh" and "Kaur" are the "last names"...... "Khalsa" is the name of the "panth" BTW ............3HO seems like a name of some chemical formula ....why can't they just call themselves sikhs...why 3HO? 3HO acts like this maybe to attract more whites from America etc to follow them by misinterpreting sikhi to their lifestyle......for some kind of purpose.......
  12. you are getting too hard on yoursef at this point.....it's ok "not to watch movies" if it comes from inside naturally due to high spiritaul level........but when the level comes down due to any reason....and we still try or force ourselves to follow same stuff....then it becomes hard.......becaue it's human nature when something sis forced upon us, we can do it for sometime but eventually will run too far away from it when we can't take it.......so we should give our mind some space before this situation comes in..... listening to "birr ras shabads or dharmic raps" as jasdeep singh ji mentioned is actually meant for us to get us out of these situations......coz we are the victims of maya, so some gets over by listening to slow shabads, some by fast shabads like from Bhai Joginder Singh riar..... but the state of mind never remains the same.....it keeps changing......so watching movies, or listening to songs kind of stuff (obviously not the vulgar or lustful) doesn't hurt, to relax the mind coz sometimes we push our mind too much on path etc when it's agitated..............like a spring ... the more we push it, the harder it jumps back ............ if one wants to watch movies and listen to music...but pushing it not to do it just because it's not right in sikhi.......will take one nowhwre.."na ghar da na ghaat da"........this suppressed desire will not let one follow sikhism fully.....so it's always better to get rid of desire (again not the bad ones) by fulfilling it or by doing ardas to Guru ji to get rid of it.......
  13. Life is hard after taking Amrit as we are not used to accept HIS bhana and more important keeping rehits - do/don'ts..... before taking amrit one is free to do anything....like a punjabi idiom "sir te ni kunda, hathi fire lunda"......so nothing is hard as there are no principles or mannerism rules to follow......everything is accepatable...... but after taking amrit.....one gets sold to or get surrenderd to Guru sahib and can't do "man-aayiaan"....that's where the problem lies......... Problem is in us for not surrendering in full and whole heartedly - tan, mann, dhan......

    Prayer?

    what do you mean by "all three" OP Ji ? Daily "Ideal prayers" are actually 7 not 3, ardas to be followed (you don't have to read it from Gutka sahib, whatever you have on mind would do the magic)..... Morning: Japuji Sahib Jaap Sahib Twa Prasad Swaiye Chaupai Sahib Anand Sahib (full) and finish with ardas Evening: Rahras Sahib (including chaupai sahib and 5 paurhis of Anand Sahib) and finish with ardas Night: Kirtan Sohila and finish with ardas This is just FYI Coming back to your issue... You can listen to the morning paths any time during day based on your situations, Rehras sahib evening and Kirtan Sohila before going to bed. For Kirtan Sohila what you can do is......print off the Kirtan sohila path and paste or hang it on the wall and before going to sleep read it......after doing this for a while regularly, you'll memorize it and then you can do it while you r in bed ready to sleep...... regarding meat, you won't quit meat if anyone asks you to.....but now that doesn't mean you shouldn't start doing path until you quit it.....it's hardly possible unless Guru Ji shower HIS blessings..........so if for some reason you can't do it......listen to it at home, in car, at work etc...... Hope this helps

  17. OP ji Thinking and bathing both are correct......both are applicable.... One always think of attaining virtues so one can be closer to God, but mere thinkng doesn't obtain anything unless hard work is put into it.....which is naam simran, sewa, kirat kar and vand shak.... Secondly cleansing or bathing of body won't cleanse or purify the dust on the mind, it can be done only by naam simran, sewa, kirat kar & vand shak.... there are and can be thousands of meanings of just one tuk, Gurbani is not stuck to just one meaning.....every mind gets interpretation based on his/her level of spirituality and as one's spiritual level develops, many meanings of same tuk will flourish in the mind automatically.......and if person tries to explain it to someone else with lower spiritual level ....... won't get it......... bhul chuk maaf...
  18. to further add......nindeya is also when one's bad qualities are exaggerated by suppressing or ignoring the good ones......
  19. Bhai Gurdas's Account of Martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev Guru Arjan Dev was martyred as per orders of emperor Jahangir on May 30, 1606. Jahangir wrote in his Tuzak-i-Jahangiri only 20 days after the martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev that he ordered his execution. Bhai Gurdas had documented the martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev as follows: ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਜੋਤੀਜੋਤ !->!-> ਰਹਿਦੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਦਰੀਆਉ ਵਿਚਿ ਮੀਨ ਕੁਲੀਨ ਹੇਤੁ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੀ। Rahiday Guru Dareeaau Vichi Meen Kuleen Haytu Nirabaanee. रहिदे गुरु दरीआउ विचि मीन कुलीन हेतु निरबाणी । Liberating the soul from the body, Guru (Arjan Dev) stabilized himself in the water of river as the fish remains in water. 1 ਵਾਰਾਂ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਦਾਸ : ਵਾਰ ੨੪ ਪਉੜੀ ੨੩ ਪੰ. ੧ !->!-> ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਪਤੰਗ ਜਿਉ ਜੋਤੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ। Darasanu Daykhi Patang Jiu Jotee Andari Joti Samaanee. दरसनु देखि पतंग जिउ जोती अंदरि जोति समाणी । As the moth rows itself into the flame, his light mingled with light of the Lord. 2 ਵਾਰਾਂ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਦਾਸ : ਵਾਰ ੨੪ ਪਉੜੀ ੨੩ ਪੰ. ੨ !->!-> ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਲਿਵ ਮਿਰਗ ਜਿਉ ਭੀੜ ਪਈ ਚਿਤਿ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਆਣੀ। Sabadu Surati Liv Mirag Jiu Bheerh Paee Chiti Avaru N Aanee. सबदु सुरति लिव मिरग जिउ भीड़ पई चिति अवरु न आणी । Caring of for life, as the deer keeps its consciousness concentrated when in peril, the Guru also, when undergoing suffering kept none else except the Lord in is' consciousness. 3 ਵਾਰਾਂ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਦਾਸ : ਵਾਰ ੨੪ ਪਉੜੀ ੨੩ ਪੰ. ੩ !->!-> ਚਰਣ ਕਵਲ ਮਿਲਿ ਭਵਰ ਜਿਉ ਸੁਖ ਸੰਪਟ ਵਿਚਿ ਰੈਣਿ ਵਿਹਾਣੀ। Charan Kaval Mili Bhavar Jiu Soukh Sanpat Vichi Raini Vihaanee. चरण कवल मिलि भवर जिउ सुख संपट विचि रैणि विहाणी । As the black bee remains enrapt in the petals of flower • enjoy fragrance, the Guru also spent night of suffering by keeping joyfully s concentration on the feet of Lord. 4 ਵਾਰਾਂ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਦਾਸ : ਵਾਰ ੨੪ ਪਉੜੀ ੨੩ ਪੰ. ੪ !->!-> ਗੁਰੁ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਨ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਬਾਬੀਹੇ ਜਿਉ ਆਖ ਵਖਾਣੀ। Guru Oupadaysu N Visarai Baabeehay Jiu Aakh Vakhaanee. गुरु उपदेसु न विसरै बाबीहे जिउ आख वखाणी । The Guru like a rainbird spoke to his isciples that the teachings of the Guru should not be forgotten. 5 ਵਾਰਾਂ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਦਾਸ : ਵਾਰ ੨੪ ਪਉੜੀ ੨੩ ਪੰ. ੫ !->!-> ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖ ਫਲੁ ਪਿਰਮ ਰਸੁ ਸਹਜ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਿ ਜਾਣੀ। Guramoukhi Soukh Phalu Piram Rasu Sahaj Samaadhi Saadh Sangi Jaanee. गुरमुखि सुख फलु पिरम रसु सहज समाधि साध संगि जाणी । The pleasure it of the Gurmukh (Guru Arjan Dev) is the delight of love and he accepts the holy congregation as the natural state of meditation. 6 ਵਾਰਾਂ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਦਾਸ : ਵਾਰ ੨੪ ਪਉੜੀ ੨੩ ਪੰ. ੬ !->!-> ਗੁਰ ਅਰਜਨ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੀ ॥੨੩॥ Gur Arajan Vitahu Kurabaanee ॥23॥ गुर अरजन विटहु कुरबाणी ॥२३॥ I am sacrifice untoGu ru Arjan Dev. 7 ਵਾਰਾਂ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਦਾਸ : ਵਾਰ ੨੪ ਪਉੜੀ ੨੩ ਪੰ. ੭ To achieve martyrdom, Guru Arjan Dev ji immersed in the God-like ocean like a fish. The Guru merged into the heavenly light like the moth that immolates itself after seeing the light. ..
