  1. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Per Guru Sahib: http://searchgurbani.com/guru_granth_sahib/ang/305/line/14020 At the bottom, starting from: ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਜੋ ਸਿਖੁ ਅਖਾਏ ਸੁ ਭਲਕੇ ਉਠਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵੈ ॥ Sikh Rehat Maryada: http://new.sgpc.net/sikh-rehat-maryada-in-english/
  2. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Please give him some time to actually respond - not everyone is logged into this website continuously. Concept - Charan Amrit was present from the time of Guru Nanak Sahib as per Vaaran Bhai Gurdas Sahib. This was the method of initiating Sikhs into the Sikh faith. Dasam Patshah transformed this to Khandae Battae Di Pahul. It is the means to initiate Sikhs into the faith and has a lot of meaning. I would recommend reading this: http://www.gurmat.info/sms/smspublications/amritkihain/ - click the links in the top right in blue to navigate.
  3. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH http://www.ebay.com/itm/Antique-Indo-persianMughal-Rajput-Sikh-Maratha-Shikarga-Rare-Bichwa-khanda-sword-/171387723065?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27e7811d39 This seems like an ideal set up in terms of dimensions. A bit blunt though. Perhaps similar ones were the basis of the current Khanda.
  4. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Links please...I am interested in getting some to donate to the local Sangat here if such a thing is easy to get. I know I can get a Khanda, but Sarbloh and of appropriate length is important. Unless the Amrit Bataa is huge, I don't know how a 3 foot Khanda would be balanced within most batae being used in Amrit Sanchars today (not much bigger than say a 5 quart/liter capacity). I suspect this is why the current Khandae were developed - to scale the size down to the bata.
  5. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Got a good supplier who can provide 1.5 - 2 foot Sarbloh Khandas that are functional? :biggrin2: "AKJ members" - lol indeed - do they have membership cards or something? Maybe the Taksali posse and the Nanaksari gang does... :stupidme:
  6. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Seriously, I don't there is an answer to that question, unless someone can show a similar Khanda being used in Guru Sahib's time or near enough to do Amrit Sanchar seva similar to today's.
  7. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH What "sukh" are you looking for? "Dukh Vich Sookh Manai" is what Gurbani teaches - to be content even when sadness is around. Guru Sahib's life is a reference point of the absolute ideal in Gursikhi. Sarbans Dani Sahib-E-Kamal Dasam Patshah gave up EVERYTHING and still remained in Chardi-Kalaa. His Sikhs were the same as him - no food, no shelter, living on horseback and relished every minute of Simran and Gurbani. Do Ardaas for whatever you need - the Almighty is the giver of all. But understand that Sikhi teaches that only Naam/Bani will take to the Almighty and make you One. Within that is true happiness. All else fades and does not last. Gurbani is not a path of do this = profit. It is a path of remembering the Almighty through Simran, inner contemplation, self realization and progress based on the Guru's instructions/Hukam that is Gurbani. If you progress on the path of Gurbani, happiness will be present regardless of the worldly condition and your station in life. It is not of coincidence that Shaheedan Di Sirtaj - Sahib Sri Guru Arjun Dev Sahib Ji - recited "Tera Kia Meetha Laagae" while being tortured - despite the extremely brutal tortures and conditions his body was subjected to, his very essence was joined to the Almighty to where they were One - was still in a Divine bliss. Such was the state of many of the Chardi-Kalaa Shaheed Sikhs, of olden and new history, that took upon themselves exrteme torture and yet still remained enraptured in the Almighty's rememberance. You have only to look at Shaheed Bhai Anokh Singh Babbar's Shaheedi to see the avastha of "Dukh Vich Sookh Manai" - tortures that leave a reader trembling by merely reading, this Gursikh was able to face uttering Vaheguru and still thanked the Almighty for the days and nights of happiness.
  8. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH There are more and more non Punjabi Sikhs coming into Sikhi outside of 3HO and joining the mainstream Sikh faith. You will note a couple of reactions - one is the initial novelty awe or hesitation (language/cultural barrier) of someone coming from outside of Punjab becoming a Sikh - more typical from the elder generation. The younger generation is more familiar with non Punjabi Sikhs and therefore don't get as awestruck and look for the person to make progress in Sikhi just like a Punjabi Sikh. Overall, if the person makes an effort to become a Sikh and understands that there is a different language, culture (Sikh culture, not Punjabi - two very different things) and is willing to express patience and work at becoming one with the local Sangat (congregation), then they will be accorded with the same respect as another Sikh. One thing to always be mindful of as a person who comes to the faith from a non Punjabi background - be grounded in reality and Gurbani. It is a serious path of God worship and meditation. It is straightforward in comparison to other faiths, but that does not imply it is easy. Don't buy into the novelty aspect of the faith - seriously research (which means read Gurbani and history) to make sure this is a path you want to take. Unfortunately, is does happen many pursue the faith (Punjabi and non-Punjabi alike), lose interest and become somewhat disillusioned because things don't always turn out as they wanted from their motivations (look different, feel special, shiny weapons, etc.). If you truly like Sikhi for Sikhi - Gurbani appeals to you, the concept of remembering the Almighty with each and every breath and even more where each passing moment is spent contemplating the Almighty and you are willing to surrender yourself to Sikhi, then pursue Sikhi. Otherwise, it may prove to be a fruitless effort if you get into something that was not quite as you had expected. Consequently, I am a resident of the Fresno area - let me know if you need any help. I heavily advise attending Gurudwara Gur Nanak Parkash in Fresno and meeting up with the California Gatka Dal teachers there - they are all basically American raised youth who have good command of the English language, are professionals and have a good foundation in Sikhi (and don't take themselves too seriously - they are good humans, good Gursikhs and despite all the joking and laughing, know what they are talking about in terms of Sikhi). Don't expect BrahmGyanis (those who are essentially one with the Almighty ), but their approach will be practical and based on the experience of being a Sikh in America. That and they also have had plenty of experience in interacting with non Punjabi Sikhs.
  9. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH http://vidhia.com/Bani/01_Sri_Guru_Granth_Sahib_Ji_Larreedaar.pdf This may be stating the blaringly obvious, but Saroops of Guru Sahib are NOT to be printed.
  10. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Where do you live (not the address, just general vicinity)? There may be facilities in your area you are not aware of. But as Bhai Savinderpal Singh says - why the sudden urge? From the other post, you also have an urge to do Simran - are you Amritdhari? If not, that would be the first step to getting anywhere with both of these requests.
  11. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH ManmitSingh Jio, Gurmantar (Vaheguru) and its recitation technique is given by the Punj Pyare during the Amrit Sanchar. If you truly desire to so Simran, see if you are ready to go join the Khalsa Panth and give your head to the Guru and they will give you Naam (that which Gurbani speaks of over and over, time and time again) on which you will do Simran. The Kathakars can tell you why to do it, but no individual(s) has the right to give you the Gurmantar or how to recite it which will have the full blessings of Akaal Purakh except the Punj Pyare. People can describe process, maybe even violate the ongoing traditions of how to mechanically recite Naam, but only the Guru/Akaal Purakh, through the Punj Pyare, can give you the true way to doing Naam Simran.
  12. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH I don't think a non-Sikh buyer is going to be able to do an Amrit Sanchar with it. Also, while the Khanda/Batta can be used in an Amrit Sanchar, its use in the confines of that Divine ceremony is what makes it sanctified. A batta or a Khanda by itself does not have the same Divinity. They are the Divine tools used in a very Divine ceremony, but so is water and patasae made of sugar- we cannot control who possesses these tools much as we cannot control those who use water and patasae for other uses. As for the throw pillow and tote bag - that's just ridiculous. Bhai Sahib (title bestowed to him by the Akal Takht Sahib) Randhir Singh was in firm opposition to his imagery being used in any fashion. There is a story of a Sikh who made calendars with his image in them. Bhai Sahib told the Gursikh to burn all of the calendars and to only focus on Gurbani. http://www.akj.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=6530
  13. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Yes, it is OK. Many start there and are inspired to learn Gurmukhi and read as the Gurus revealed to the world. Its full effect, its beauty and its Divinity is truly reflected in Gurmukhi. A Gursikh, who is blessed with the Almighty, will read Gurbani and be carried forth in developing a deep love for Gurbani. He/she will read, will understand, and will implement in the daily life. The Guru will be pleased, and will shower blessings on the Gursikh and enhance the spiritual ecstasy, increase the bliss of Simran, transcend the spiritual stages to the highest and make the Gursikh one with the Almighty. Or so I have heard... :biggrin2: Yes, it is OK to listen to paath. Even when doing Paath, it is done so that the mouth recites and the ears listen. Listening is very important and listening, doing vichaar (see what Guru Sahib says, introspect as to how it applies to your life and where you stand, and apply it to your life) is very important. Note that the theme of Gurbani at a very overwhelming level is Naam Simran.
  14. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Possible options: eInk - think Kindle/Nook - for eye strain. BUT, the processors in those are woefully under-powered and may take a long time to turn pages. Also, you need to make sure the reader handles PDFs well and is of adequate size - most eBook readers are small and scrunch the image too much to be readable (you sit there zooming and panning). Great battery life, cheaper, no eye strain, but limited in its abilities (really only usable for book reading. You can root some to be a full tablet, but given the underpowered processor, it is not ideal). Tablet - iPads and Kindle Fire HDs/HDXs - more powerful processor, but may lead to eye strain as there is a screen you have to stare at for hours. Ok battery life. Can handle apps that can almost replace an entire PC. Surface Pro - expensive, but powerful as a PC. Battery life is of concern somewhat. Heavier than the other options. Honestly, go and try them out. If you can get a hold of an eBook reader and load a giant PDF to see how it handles, it would go a long way to seeing if it is responsive (and large enough) to be a good candidate. the iPads and Kindle HDXs should be powerful enough to load and read large PDfs and the Surface Pro definitely so. See what meets your needs and price range.
  15. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH ...and why is Balbir Baba still have an account active in Sikhsangat? If child birth is intercourse, then I guess going number 2 is sodomy? Really dude, chill out. This is not a place where you will get chelae. Go attend to your current followers or cash the RSS paycheck.
  16. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Standing is per the Sikh Rehat Maryada: "The boy and girl, after every circumambulation, should bow before the Guru Granth Sahib in genuflexion, lowering their forehead to touch the ground and then stand up to listen to the recitation of the next stanza. " http://new.sgpc.net/sikh-rehat-maryada-in-english/ - Page 14 The sitting down is reflected in the Taksal Maryada (and by extension, potentially other Sampardayic/traditional groups in Sikhi): "The Ragee Singh is to perform Kirtan of the first Lav and the couple are to slowly walk around Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee (keeping Guru Sahib to their right-hand side), after which they are to bow to Guru Sahib and be seated. " http://www.damdamitaksaal.org/code-of-conduct#h9-1-the-recital-of-paath-and-parkarma - Section 9.1
  17. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Seriously? Report on Sardar Hari Singh Nalwa being the best conqueror, with the statements to back their conclusions contained WITHIN the article, is being contested and morphed into which is the best religion? It is a subjective article, not a scientific one. There is no statistical significance, standard deviations, or p values to measure. Let me sum it up for you: Hari Singh Nalwa conquered over lands that current superpowers with seemingly infinite resources are unable to control with limited resources and sheer grit, strength. He plugged the Khyber pass and maintained the integrity of the communities and cultures of present day Pakistan and India. He's a bad mamma-jamma. What do you want - charts, graphs and declaration of bias in the article? How did this turn into which religion is the best? This thread should be locked just because it induces a migraine.
  18. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Gave the Gurmantar video some more time - me likey. :l: Thanks again.
  19. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Thanks. :cool2: Warning: Opinionated attempt at constructive criticism: Doesn't quite scratch the itch. It's a bit to intense and dynamic for me. Any possibility to do one similar to the Mool Mantar ones: Evenly slowly paced, spoken, relaxing voice which melds into the background music, the idea being to pace similar to breathing so it encourages union of Gurmantar with breath. The Mool Mantar ones are transcendental in that they are very very evenly pace, the music and the spoken Mool Mantar has a very delicate interplay that leads to no fatigue in listening to it and could be used for hours on end to listen to and tune the brain to the Gurmantar. Maybe even a combined one with the Mool Mantar and Gurmantar - one would lead to the other and a contemplation cycle that would be possibly of greater benefit than the two separately. Maybe 5 minutes each alternating back and forth. Yes, I am being spoiled and thank you for your efforts. :biggrin2: :happy2: :tongue2:
  20. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Very nice. Now we need one with the Gurmantar.
  21. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Seriously, Britain needs to sort it out. Listen carefully about what some of the BRITISH youth are saying. "Oh, let's just establish the Caliphate, expand its borders, implement Sharia across the world to all, Muslim or non-Muslim". Vah - Aurangzeb Di Aulad Hajae Vi Jinda England Vich.
  22. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH YAY!!! Now I can send my bribes by local mail rather than international mail and make local connections with corrupt politicians to secure privileges in India!! Badal Sahib, the check's in the mail!
