  1. This account describes how advanced the Sikh army was with Artillery more advanced than the British. 'Lord Gough the British Commander-in-Chief opened the attack at 3.30 p.m. on 21 st December, 1845, himself led the right, the Governor General the Centre and Sir Littler the left wing of the assailing force. As the British forces came in sight, the Sikh gunners opened fire. Such were the quick volleys of this firing that within ten minutes two hundred British soldiers were either killed or crippled and Sir Littler retired with his force. General Harry Smith who tried to take a Sikh position was also repulsed. Sir Walter Gilbert and General Wallace showed tremendous daring with some success losing 270 men in the exploit. The British now found themselves in a grave position. Half their force under Littler and Harry Smith were outside the Sikh entrenchments but the other half within, unable to advance. Cunningham who was present in the battle gives a graphic description of the battle scene,Darkness, and the obstinacy of the contest, threw the English into confusion; men of all regiments and arms were mixed together: generals were doubtful of the fact or of the extent of their own success and colonels knew not what had become of the regiments they commanded or of the army of which they formed a part'
  2. The British nearly lost of battle, only helped by the treachery of Brahmin Generals Lal and Tej Singh. Here is a British account. Following entry exists in the Diary of Sir Robert Cust, who was present in the battle December 22nd. News came from the Governor General that our attack of yesterday had failed, that affairs were desperate, that all State papers were to be destroyed, and that if the morning attack failed, all would be over; this was kept secret by Mr. Currie and we were concerting measures to make an unconditional surrender to save the wounded, the part of the news that grieved me the most.
  3. It's true though after many years of helping Indians , they do not give a dam about Sikhs.Never heard any mass outcry about the 1984 genocide from Indians, in fact they voted in Rajiv Gandhi with the highest majority ever after the 84 massacre. Did not hear much about Sikhs helping the 84 victims, many of which are in dire poverty as Indians do not like this happening.
  4. He can join the company of Gen K Brar , another who reads this forum then complains elsewhere.
  5. You guys are getting to him, Sunny is putting out a defence on his Facebook. As we have said before he should spend time with his brother and stop being a self hater. You can be a Sikh and still get to high positions ,it's not the 70/80s anymore. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=927457730657644&substory_index=0&id=594366611
  6. The Sarbat Khalsa leaders are in jail on false charges. What happened to the DDT, Nihangs, Nanaksar, Parchaaraks etc. All gone quiet on Beadbi and Police violence.
  7. All of them have gone silent even as beadbi continues and Sikhs face oppression. Sarbat Khalsa leaders are the only people the Govt dislikes.
  8. 20 years ago the Akali Dal represented by Surjit Singh Baranala comprising of what is now Badals Akali Dal and Capt Amarinder Singh then being an Akali signed the statement below that they would push for an independent state if Sikh demands were not met. They signed this publicaly at Siri Akal Takht. The exact wording of Amritsar Declaration Shiromani Akali Dal The Amritsar Declaration (At Sri Akal Takht, May 1st, 1994) The Shiromani Akali Dal, championing the cause of Guru Granth Sahib -based Punjabi culture, reiterates its commitment to pursue a democratic struggle for the creation of a separate region for the Sikhs, where they can enjoy freedom. Prior to partition, the Congress promised to create such a region, which promise has so far not been fulfilled. The aspirations of the Sikh nation and the Punjabis can be realised only with the creation of such a region. Such a region can help in fulfilling the needs and desires of minorities. At this juncture in history, on the one hand we have unrest in southeast Asia, and on the other, western nations are exploring new value models to determine their destiny. These nations are also in the process of reidentifying with their distinctive cultural identities. In these circumstances, in such a region, the practice of ideals enshrined in the Guru Granth Sahib of universal brotherhood and unity, humility, corruption-free politics and peaceful coexistence, can be a beacon light for other cultural entities. In this territory, religious, economic, political and social institutions based on the Sikh way of life will uphold moral awareness, and also provide the Sikh people a place in history, hitherto unavailable. With this achievement, the Sikhs and Panjabiat will be able to make a laudable contribution to enrich world culture. The Shiromani Akali Dal is of the view that India is a sub-continent of various nations and cultures, each with a distinct legacy and status. The sub-continent needs to be restructured with a confederal constitution, enabling participating entities to prosper and flourish according to their own aspirations and to establish their special position in the comity of nations and cultures. In case such a new confederal structure is not accepted by Indian rulers, then the Shiromani Akali Dal has no option but to demand and struggle for an independent and sovereign Sikh state. --Signed- Amarinder Singh Jagdev Singh Talwandi Simranjit Singh Mann Jasmer Singh Bala, Col. (Retd.) Surjit Singh Barnala Bhai Manjit Singh
  9. True it seems that western mainstream causes catch attention more. Many Sikh families in the Punjab that gave Shaheeds say they got absolutely no help from anyone. The Genocide victims also suffer greatly. But both the western and Indian media give no coverage to these victims, so our Sikh groups do the same. There are a few underfunded Sikh groups who are helping.
  10. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/amritsar/European-Sikhs-meet-UNHRC-for-release-of-those-arrested-inPunjab-in-November/articleshow/49940488.cms European Sikhs meet UNHRC for release of those arrested in Punjab in November AMRITSAR: Sikhs of Europe under the banner of Movement Against Atrocities and Repression (MAAR ) met the president of United Nations Human Rights Council seeking his intervention for the release of Sikh leaders who were arrested on November 10th and were facing sedition charges. The president of MAAR, Harminder Singh Khalsa told TOI over phone from Switzerland on Thursday late evening that they had also submitted a list of those arrested as well as those who have been charged including Sikhs from the USA, UK and Italy to the Council. He further informed that a memorandum outlining in detail as to how the basic rights to freedom of speech had allegedly been violated, had already been submitted this month. "The response by the United Nations has been positive," said he. He further informed that on October 30, thousands of people from all faiths had gathered in front of the United Nations in Geneva to address concerns regarding recent alleged human rights violations in India. "This was followed by a memorandum which was signed by over one hundred Gurdwara's and delivered to the United Nations Secretary General and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in which seven issues were addressed," said Khalsa. He said some of the issues includes UN-led inquiry into the 1984 Sikh Genocide, prosecution of police officers involved in human rights violations in Punjab, release of Sikh political prisoners, recent attacks on the Sikh faith and killing of peaceful Sikh protesters.
  11. http://www.tribuneindia.com/news/punjab/bhagwant-mann-challenges-sukhbir-other-leaders-for-dope-test/162785.html Bhagwant Mann challenges Sukhbir, other leaders for dope test Chandigarh, November 25 Under fire from the Shiromani Akali Dal following allegations that he came drunk to events, AAP MP Bhagwant Mann hit back on Wednesday and challenged Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and other leaders to get a dope test done. "Let us have a dope test of all leaders (in Punjab). I will be the first one to give my blood for the dope test. I urge you and other leaders to get a dope test done also," Mann, a well-known comedian-actor, said in a video uploaded on his Facebook page. Throwing a challenge to Badal and other leaders, Mann said: "You must realise that in a dope test, drug abuse of over one year shows up. "Just by getting effigies (of your opponents) burnt by your sycophants will not solve anything. Know the ground reality, Mr Badal," Mann said. Mann claimed that Sukhbir Badal was being called names on social media and linked to drug abuse too. "This is a great opportunity for you to clear your own name. On social media, people call you 'Sukha Amli' (Amli in Punjabi means drug addict). You should get your blood tested and make its report public so that you can clear your name." Punjab has been in news in recent years for rampant drug addiction, particularly among youths and in rural areas. Mann challenged Badal to give proof of the allegations of drug addiction and alcoholism against him (Mann) launched by Akali Dal leaders and supporters. "Baseless allegations are being made against the AAP, our leaders and particularly against me for some time now. Give us proof of these allegations," Mann said. He said the ruling party was using a Punjabi news channel, whose ownership is linked to the Badal family, to defame him and the Aam Aadmi Party. Mann said the Akali Dal government had failed to provide good governance and had lost touch with people. "You don't want to take any responsibility. You blame the central government for farmers' misery, and the BSF for drug menace in Punjab. You can blame (former Pakitsan president) Pervez Musharraf for the Punjab Police firing on innocents," Mann said. Mann said he and his party leaders were ready to challenge the Akali Dal leadership on any issue. The AAP, which won all its four Lok Sabha seats in 2014 in Punjab, is emerging as a third force in the state to challenge the Akali Dal and the opposition Congress.
  12. MSG2 put on full release in Punjab after a big turnout of Dera followers at Badal's rally. Nobody opposing this now ,after the Sarbat Khalsa leaders have been imprisoned. http://indianexpress.com/article/cities/chandigarh/in-punjab-cinemas-bond-makes-way-for-msg-2/
  13. Looks the Badal rally was a flop, most of the people bussed in where Non Sikh labourers who liked having a bus ride and a meal. In fact in the pictures ,the non turbaned audience outnumbered the turbaned. I had not realised the further removal of Sikh identity had taken place in that the Sikh Students Federation has been renamed Student Organisation of India, mostly made up of shaven men.
  14. When Mann stood in 1989 parliamentary elections his party allied with the BSP party. They got 10 out of 13 MP seats in Punjab. Dalits also fear the extreme Brahmin ideas of the BJP/ RSS, so with Dalits an election victory is possible.
  15. http://www.tribuneindia.com/mobi/news/punjab/kin-of-protester-killed-in-police-firing-threaten-self-immolation/160982.html Further unjustified arrests and prolonged imprisonment of those that took part in the Sarbat Khalsa. Those that did not go and made a lot of noise do not seem to object to the anti Sikh oppression.
  16. Sikhs are not happy with the oppression of the Badal Dal http://www.sikh24.com/2015/11/21/akali-minister-sikandar-maluka-faces-protests-in-dhapali-not-allowed-to-enter-village/#.VlC6zbVFDqA
  17. If drunks were sent into the Harmandar Sahib that is a very serious offence. Many prominent Sikhs and organisations who were active in the anti beadbi campaign have gone quiet suddenly, they need to speak up. Sikhs are being arrested and tortured for their views. http://sikhsangat.org/2015/badal-camp-hired-crooks-brandishing-swords-during-jathedar-mand-akal-takhts-speech/
  18. Also Punjab Strike planned for Nov 23rd as stated by Jathedar Dhian Singh. http://punjabnewsexpress.com/punjab/news/mand-gives-punjab-bandh-call-for-november-23-45242.aspx

  20. This shows the PM of India organised the biggest massacre in modern India. Do not use the word 'Riots'.
  21. I would have thought there would have been some protests to lift the house arrest, but all gone quiet.
  22. All Punjab Police officers seem to have their beards completely trimmed ,shameful
  23. It was not clear why the Beadbi protests have been called off by the Parchaaraks. There was a lot of support for the demos. On the 15th the Parchaaraks were going to surround the offices of the Badal and the others but this was called off.
  24. Mohinder Singh from GNSJ has not explained his presence in the meeting yet.He was in the front row.
