  1. And in 1985, UK was in the EEC (predecessor to EU). Lower pound means cheaper exports.
  2. Labour was no better, with Gordon Brown robbing our pensions and also Labour was in power who bailed out the banks during the 2008 crisis.
  3. Stock markets go down and then they recover. It's happened before, it will happen again. Back in 1992, UK was part of the European Exchange Mechanism and they left, (Google Black Wednesday.) Same bunch of doom mongers said it was disaster, UK recovered.
  4. Companies close operations in the UK and move other countries in the EU as it stands. An example I know of is Dell who moved to Ireland because they had favourable tax situation and then few years later shifted to Poland because it was cheaper. I don't see how it will make a big difference. Companies will always find an opportunity, it's the nature of business. Some people have genuine concerns and it is not always about racism. We as Sikhs complain about how Punjab is being swamped by Bhaiyas and Biharis and that Sikhs are becoming a minority, however if a gora says the same thing we call them racist.
  5. Just remember that the contributions that are put into the EU is part of the monies that are paid out to these "grants". Also the EU will have to be careful not to impose too many restrictions on the UK because it is a large market for a lot of goods and services. Also, how can you be sure that brexiting is going to increase racist attacks? A racist will attack regardless of whether UK is in the EU or not. The fear of the bigwigs in the EU is if UK exits, other countries may follow.

  7. What I have stated is fact. I am not stating whether it is bad or not but how Sikhs benefit from being in the EU. Older Sikhs may not be involved in owning shops as much as they used to but some of the newer Sikh migrants like the Afghan Sikhs. Eastern European migrants also feature heavily in the Catering trade. Again we Sikhs benefit from this as they serve Sikhs at weddings and other functions. You see them serving food at Gurdwaras before the Anand Karaj. You also see a lot of East European homeless and a lot of them come to gurdwarae for langar. If attend gurdwarae in Slough and Southall, they have signs in Polish.
  8. You seem to be missing my point. I am talking about where Sikhs may benefit from the EU. Not all Sikhs but many Sikhs.
  9. From a pro-EU Sikh point of view: The Afghan Sikh benefit from EU membership because they are able to open their Polski Skleps. It also suits the formally "illegal" Sikh migrants who get EU passports and then come over to the UK. It suits the Asian shopkeeper because they can hire cheap Eastern European labour because they keep getting big fines when they get caught hiring illegals. It suits the illegal punjabi/Sikh boys to marry Polish women to get permanent. It suits Sikhs when they need to build extensions as they can get Polish plumbers and builders. It also suits Sikh landlords when they need to rent out their properties.
  10. When Ambedkar became Buddhist, how many Dalit followed suit. Not many, otherwise there would several hundred million Buddhists in India today. How can we be sure that Ambedkar becoming Sikh would have resulted in millions of Dalit becoming Sikh?
  11. I have distant relative who is a lesbian and is involved in a relationship with another woman. I met both of them at a wedding of another relation and she excitedly mentioned how there was a lot of young boys at this wedding. This made me wonder whether she really was a lesbian or whether she was one because she could not find a man. There are theories of how some divorced women become lesbian, but women do tend be more fluid. However, women are attracted to the masculine and if they find those masculine traits in other women rather than a feminised husband then they will go for the masculine. Another point you will need to consider of how "fashionable" and "trendy" being a lesbian is in some quarters and some women jump on the bandwagon.
  12. There is definitely some p****-envy. They hate being women and wish they were men. But they make very poor men.
  13. On one hand, the question is posed that Patriarchy prevents women from parchaar yet the reality is women are doing parchaar regardless of this perceived "patriarchy" that exist as shown by Kamalpreet Singh's findings. The question also arises is why does a Sant require permission from a Sampradas, is Sikhi not been greater and wider than a particular group of Sikhs?
  14. I think that is a bit of a cop out. Example is Basics of Sikhi, they struggle to get support of gurdwaras and it is started by a male (Jagraj Singh), yet he successfully done parchaar. I don't see these "patriarchs" stopping from doing anything. If these "spiritually awake" women were truly above this "social conditioning", they would not bother with these "patriarchs" and so do parchaar regardless.
  15. We use the Punjabism and the patriachial card way too much to explain why there aren't there many women doing this or women doing that. The reality is that the majority of women prefer to be led rather than lead and the ones that do not like to openly lead, they prefer to do things covertly or via proxy through the male.
  16. From a politics point of view, for a country to admit and apologise for any past wrong doings is a sign of weakness. You concede on one point, what else would you concede on. All that will happen is that the sharks will start gathering. You can see the example of Germany. After everything that has been done during Nazi period, it has a lot of guilt which means it has lost a lot of backbone and this may have contributed in part in the problems it has today. You can see it with Japan, they committed a lot of atrocities in their occupation period. They may not have technically apologised, but they may have conceded on other points. But with North Korea and a resurgent China, they will have to regain their Samurai spirit.
  17. Has any Mughal descendent or Central Asian/Subcontinent muslim ever apologised for Aurungzeb and should they have to?
  18. Just remember that London is where a lot of foreign dictators, mass murdering politicians also park their money also.
  19. The brown-nosers and appeasers are ever the opportunists. They will look where the wind is blowing and act accordingly.
  20. I think what Quantavius is alluding to here is that when looting was common amongst warring parties. Another thing I might add is that the looting here occurred between the elites. Not the common man.
