  1. totally agree pen ji! You'll always see Sikh parents not allowing their daughters to take amrit because their worried if they'll be able to find a life partner! Eventually the bibi will just give up and go back to manmath! If Sikh boys prove to people that they want amritdhari life partner I think it would make life a lot easier for may bibyan who are interested in sikhi,,,,,
  2. Waheguru ka Khalsa Waheguru ji ki fathe First of veer ji, may I point out that Waheguru ji doesn't look at your past sins or mistakes, he is benevolent, he is waiting day and night with open arms ki "when will my putt come"... All you have to do put 1 step towards Guru ji and he himself will run a 1000 steps towards you! I know it seems hard to believe that Guru ji wont look at your past sins but a prime example is when the Singhs wrote a bedawa to Guru Gobind Singh ji and then later came back to the battle fields. Did you see Guru ji complain or mention that they were traitors? no, instead he got Maha Singhs head and put it on his laps and loved him. Guru ji happily tore the bedawa apart.... We everyday and every time we do paap/sins we are writing a bedawa to Guru ji and saying "we don't need you or your advice" but Guru ji is still there waiting for us so if your really want to repent then you should go to the gurdwara do sewa, listen to katha kirtan and relax your mind. remember Waheguru ji tell us that at the end everyone will leave you... you will have nobody left and the sooner you accept this the better.... Sang Sakhaa Sabh Thaj Geae Kooo N Nibehiou Saathh || My associates and companions have all deserted me; no one remains with me so Guru ji explains to us that the only person who will be there when everyone else leaves is GOD! ਜਹ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਮੀਤ ਨ ਭਾਈ ॥ Jeh Maath Pithaa Suth Meeth N Bhaaee || Where there is no mother, father, children, friends or siblings, o mind there the name of the lord is your support Also this shabad maybe comforting for you.... Ham Jaisae Aparadhhee Avar Koee Rakhai Jaisae Ham Sathigur Rakh Leeeae Shhaddae || Can anyone else save a sinner like me? The True Guru has protected and saved me. so to meet the true Guru, be interested in sikhi, do sangat ..... you've already took the right step by coming onto this forum for help, now don't just stop there continue... Talk to people here if you like, I mean if your not already in sikhi saroop then talk to people like Turban Guys he'll tell you how much of an impact having a dastaar makes on your lifestyle, talk to people like Singhbj singh, uncle ji always has a lot of wise words to say and lots of other sangat like Harsharan000 veer ji has loads of info and Mehtab veer ji who has become a Sikh by choice. To be honest its your own choice bt the reason why im suggesting this is that I think you need to get your mind off things because the only way you'll move forward is by forgetting and rather than getting into bad company, its better to choose the sangat of the holy I remember hearing in the katha that you will have suffer the consequences of your bad karmas but remember the true Guru is so powerful by doing sangat, naam simran and kirtan Guru ji willmake your problems from "sooli toh sool" meaning from a major consequence to a smaller one.. Like Wingz pen ji said please make sure you get some help because in my opinion that make your body suffer is a sin too because this body isn't ours this is a gift from waheguru ji and its your responsibility to keep it in the same condition if not improve , the condition he gave it to us in.... you can only help yourself when you love yourself. Remember no matter how bad you are you still have that spark of the divine Waheguru ji in you, now all you need to do is let that spark shine! Meditation is a good tip for depression, just sit down and forget about everyone, follow the breathing practise of slowly in with wahe and out with Guru. this will help relax your body and mind. I hope all goes well and Bhul chuk maaf ji
  3. haha kitty party! no not really, there are some bibiyan that do kirtan every month but its mostly elderly ladies, I do try going sometimes... I just do simran at home and currently i'm trying to learn how to play the vajja too , maybe I could try learning the shabad you just told me
  4. haha uncle ji you make me laugh! don't like the desi laddoo, I'd prefer the English laddoo (Ferrero Rocher)
  5. My wise words for you and myself would be ... Concentrate on your uni work!!! University fee's are too high for us to re-do a year! haha
  6. Your absolutely right, this is perfect! Thank you Uncle jiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii :D it'd probably be good if I start reciting it like a mantra ?
  7. Only if it was that easy and simple I know that's exactly how I feel, everything was perfect and I was so happy with myself and felt so strong......maybe this is waheguru ji making sure I don't get into haumai because after all whatever maharaj ji does is always for the best yup all we can do is beg without kirpa there's nothing, hence i'm trying to find as many quotes from GGSJ......
  8. I took amrit a while before and my life from then has just changed dramatically (for the best)! I became very peaceful, relaxed and happy with whatever Waheguru ji did. The main thing that brought me happiness was that I finally accepted that all my family and friends will eventually fade away and that only wahgeuru ji will be left by my side. It made me so happy and I just felt like I can deal with any problem or sorrow just by remembering this, it even helped me concentrate when I did my nitnem etc. However after having a few family events I feel like i'm getting sucked back into this black hole of maya again, I have very tight connections with my family and a lot of them share their problems with me, although I know its good if I can be of use to someone but I feel like my mind has began going back to its old ways...obviously when people begin sharing their problems along comes nindeya, I remember hearing in the katha its just as bad to listen to nindeya as well as do it so this makes me feel so depressed and annoyed... My minds begun to wonder again and think unnecessarily an its taking away all my peace. I can't concentrate as well as I could. I know I can't find TRUE happiness in my family and relatives but sometimes I find myself in situations where I'm doing my nitnem but thinking of a upcoming get together or something else... This has begun roughly about 2 weeks ago and I feel like it's only going to get worse! basically I just miss my good days with waheguru ji and I want to get back to that moment where I was peaceful!! I've been trying to find inspirational quotes from Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji such as - -Mohi Niragun Anathh Saranee Aeia || I am unworthy and without any master; I seek Your Sanctuary, Lord. -Jinaa Saas Giraas N Visarai Sae Poorae Purakh Paradhhaan || Those who do not forget the Lord, with each and every breath and morsel of food, are the perfect and famous persons. can anyone help please!?! Your help will be appreciated- thank you!
  9. true! first of all I think we need to come up with a simple explanation of why rakhri is against sikhi. this time I decided not to tie a rakhri and I had 345879 people asking me why ? and wanted explanations to how it was against sikhi! o waheguru ji thank you my beloved for the patience and energy you provide me with

    Sikh Names

Sikh names usually have a meaning according to gurmat.... for example someone's name maybe Gurmukh which means a person who keeps their muk(face) towards the Guru (Gur). you could also link this name to Guru Gobind Singh ji who said "Khalsa mero roop hai khas" so if your living a gursikhi jeevan then you have the Gurus (Gur) face(Mukh) :waheguru: anyway easy clue is that a typical Sikh name will either end in deep, preet ,jeet, vir, inder or pal! and probably start with, Gur, Har, Man, Jas, sukh....
  11. so in other words that's before and after marriage
  12. Being born to a doctor doesn't make you a doctor similarly being born into a Sikh family doesn't make you a Sikh, so I don't really think it matters what religion you originally are from ANYONE can become a Sikh as Guru Gobind singh ji says I don't love a Sikh for being born into a Sikh family I love my Sikh for keeping the rehat! So if you adopt this child, you should treat it as if it is your real child and bring him/her up as a good Sikh ! It'll probably be good on your behalf as well because you'll be helping the child out and creating a brighter and better future for this child! Btw, its so cool that your thinking about adopting because everyone knows how most Indians can be melodramatic "haye haye pata ni kehda neyana chuk leanda" haha, so a lot of respect going out your way! When I was a kid I always wanted to adopt, simply because I just found it amazing how someone can just connect and unconditionally love someone that they didn't even know 5 minutes ago... Bhul chuk maaf ji and hope all goes well!
  13. try setting them when their wet/damp, we usually set my nieces hair when its wet and then eventually it naturally falls into place .... until then keep calm and twirl your moocha :D
  14. Waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fathe does anyone know what bani this shabad is from : nirgun raakh leya santan ka sadka, satgur taak leya mohe paapi parda hum jaise apraadi avar koi raakhe jasie hum satgur....... thank you!
  15. apparently someone had told me that tying a rakhri is a paap for a Sikh and there's a saakhi behind it which they couldn't remember! does anyone know of this?
  16. I know its so bad that people have even begun to make pictures of Guru Nanak Dev ji and Bebe Nanaki ji tying a rakhri! http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=guru+nanak+dev+ji+rakhri&FORM=HDRSC2#view=detail&id=5B645FE119FBC1D064282FEF50513C85EFB0866A&selectedIndex=2 I use to love this pic until I heard Giani Takhur singh jis Katha and giani ji was pointing out that if Guru ji rejected the hindu tradition of the janju taaga (thread), the why would he accept the HINDU tradition of a rakhri taaga! and as far as I know my Guru jis isn't a hypocrite so im pretty much sure that Guru ji never tied a rakhri! Although I understand its quite a cute thing for a sister and brother to do and I have been doing it all my life until this year, I think im going to do it differently this year so I'll be treating its just like mothers day or fathers day. Buy a present instead
  17. I've heard about these sankat mochan shabads but i don't know where to find it from! I know dukh bhanjani sahib helps with your family and social life.... but apparently there's a short sankat mochan shabad that you should recite 108 times in 40 days, its suppose to help you in your daily life?? does anyone know which one it is ?
  18. thank you so much for this! I love the way giani ji explains it so simply but to the point! Think I'm going to have to download it! dhan waheguru !
  19. I love the one they have by Bhai sukha singh ji- ja tu mere ...! But it goes too fast and im finding it quite difficult to learn yet

    Daydreamer

awww that's sweet of you to say that! But to be honest ive never mentioned it before and ever since I have on here seems like the problems disappeared :D - no more annoying day dreaming headaches wahoo
  21. veer ji, just a suggestion if you want to keep both sides happy you could go to another gurdwara instead like hazoor sahib - that way you will be visiting one of peaceful-ist places in history, with your wife and in-laws without having any worries! or you could just book a ticket for your parents too so that everyones happy LOL I only reason i'm suggesting this is that all parents have dreams for their children and if its your parents dream to take you and your wife to Harmandir sahib, then that's brilliant so why break it. You could just work around it! It'll be simple and easy! As this is a religious cause i'm sure waheguru ji will help you out, so good luck with whatever you do! bhul chuk maaf ji and take care
  22. Yes! that's so true people are forgetting the real essence of kirtan by not using raag! I remember hearing in the katha once that each and every raag has it own significance and helped people! For example in the olden days people use hope and wait for it to by singing in a particular raag.... I would've loved to have a dilruba but my mums always moaning at me that I don't use the instruments we have at home (vaaja, tabla , dholki and not forgetting the TUMBI LOL) hence i'm starting off with learning the vajja and dholki, the other two i'm not too keen on! So now that i'm at it, does anyone know how to play the dholki ? :D As jkv pen ji has mentioned I'm only getting started yet so I think I need to build up on my voice and especially confidence! Because I've sang some traditional songs at ladies sangeets in family weddings but when it comes ta singing a shabad i'm not so good, I suppose its just the pressure of getting the shabad wrong! anyway bhul chuk maaf ji and thank you!
  23. Thank you pen ji but the only problem is my voice is really feminine and sometimes all you can hear is the vajja tune and a little squeak in the background haha! Do you know any female channels ?
  24. Basically I really REALLY want to learn how to play my vajja! I've had it for a while now and have tried going to kirtan classes. The first one I went to was quite good as I learnt my 'sa re ga ma...' there but then the teacher stopped teaching and would just leave the class, so everyone would just waste time and talk. The second class I joined was okay but I just don't have enough time to make a commitment and join a class! so I've begun learning at home myself! is there anyone here who knows how to play the vajja? if you do could you help me out and suggest a shabad that would be the easiest to learn first ? Bhul chuk maaf and thank you ji
