www.sikhistore.com is a good online place else I would guess little India (Southall) I was surprised to see on sale on Amamzon.co.uk https://www.amazon.co.uk/DTF-Kachera-specific-shorts-Undergarment/dp/B012L9VTMU
  3. honestly doesn't really matter as everyone keeps their kesh as Sikh's first rehit is to not do their beadbhi AKJ give utmost respect to kesh that is where we were told to keep and do sanskar of kesh, a sikh should not be without keski ever, as we are always in Guru ji's presence and to how to keep satkar of both , that the jooda and kangha is shingar of dasam duar . They also explained fully importance of naam to a gursikh and made sure we started our new life with naam
  4. bro, you are taking amrit the maryada is the same, no panj will tell you to abandon gurbani/raagmala if that is your worry , I had amrit as a kid from AKJ and recently accompanied my boys , Raagmala wasn't even mentioned only duties of a gursikh, daily nitnem, staying away from bujjar kurehit and then every one had a naam session after the sanchar. Each abihlakee is interviewed by panj prior to to ensure readiness.nothing more or less
  5. agreed we supposed to be sikhs of the Guru not of a particular jatha or maryada...Guru ji is above all
  6. That Barking Panj even went out of normal rehit as told to Indian abhilakhees , it wasn't a gupt scenario i.e. abhilakhee and panj . My Mum and Dad were abhilakhees and it shocked my Mum as she had amrit before in India before Marriage(forced to abandon kakkars by elders when engaged) by Kaleran wale Sant Isher Singh ji and she called out the bad advice If you are planning to have amrit you should look at jeevan of panj for depth of bhagti rather than especially worrying about shaster vidhiya since the level of their bhagti will directly affect the level of the initial embedding of naam
  7. I haven't seen a female in a panj yet ....akj or otherwise
  8. what do naam abihaas, panj banianin morning, sodar rehras sandiya vele and kirtan Sohila ? keep your punj kakkar ang sang? no bujjar kurehit ...every punj gives same instruction stop making objections....the only panj I found objectionable was over thirty years ago in Barking non-jatha affiliated and told bibian it was ok to wear their sona, earrings, makeup and abhilakhees could eat fish and maas all whilst conducting sanchar in full view of non-abhilakhees(through glass wall)
  9. my attitude is , if you are spending on something buy well means look at cut, cloth quality and price you might pay a little more than the cheaper options but it will probably outlast the cheap option by fair amount , same with building works buy well : timeless pieces and decorate in simple clean way so it doesn't date . I don't get people who are constantly redecorating, changing furniture, do it once , do it right and get on with living. I learnt from my mum that she would be paid peanuts to sew dresses, the same amount of work but if the reel of labels had one name or the other it would cost more or less in the shop it didn't affect what she got paid .The materials were similar quality so it was clear it was going to the pocket of the company label. Pennies wise , pound foolish ....is the phrase that comes to mind about that penny pinching attitude ...most evident in travel ...my relatives regularly buy tickets from weird small airlines which have a multitude of stops so that they take almost double the time to get to their country of choice and then they are too tired and wrung to cope with the rest of the trip .
  10. Waheguru ji ka Khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh A veer ji was asking about Amrit Sanchar coming up in Uk , here's details of a sanchar coming up
  11. shatranj was always training in strategy used by kings and princes ...remember it started in India Have you ever seen the film the Chess Players?

    Kachera

mum made us peach, sky blue kacherey as young girls compared to white, natural/cream to our brothers Dad, i have seen dark coloured kaccherey at another friend's home ... I would try to stick to white/natural if possible for outside wear especially for wearing with chola nothing else looks right.
  13. makes you glad that Guru Pita ji told us to engage our thinking gear , women are not automatically bad (unlike vedic, buddhist, abrahamic, islamic thought processes maintain) just as Men are not automatically good/dharmic . I am pretty sure that all humans are similarly good /bad , probably bad girls were suppressed by society into being good (aww that's so sad- not) much more than the guys and now the pedulum's swinging wildly to the other side under lessening societal pressures. The solution has to be sikhi parchaar to both sexes in sikhi circles and wider to give an alternative message to neo liberal family destroying one 'feminism' as sold is a lie, because it creates a sick mentality in females to self-objectify their bodies, to reduce their worth to the ability to maintain callous disregard to their mental emotional and physical health by poisoning it with hormones to allow guilt and commitment free use by random guys. Self-respect is a dirty word and self-esteem is measured in lack of modesty???
  14. my hubby is the same , can't believe how attached he gets to clothes sometimes , the solution was to donate to charity clothes which were still in good nick but loose or old style (we are talking decades out of fashion suits) . Next is good for quality long lasting trousers, jeans, shirts and tops . I still have embroidered chunnis in perfect nick from over 26 years ago, I think it's respectful and a way of honouring the people who did the work to make things last and use them well . The effort poor people put into sewing my garments are not any less than my mother did in her youth to feed us and yes I agree brand buying is just paying for the name not giving any more money to the poor people. Desi people love to ask to keep track of prices , see whether you are a spendthrift (bad) miser (bad) or use money well without too much attachment (good) . The number of times my Mum asks me the price of things only to tell me did I really need to spend that much . She is only reinforcing value of money concept. Like the Russell Peters joke about Indians shoppers and Chinese shopkeepers- the Indians don't want to spend a penny more than necessary and the Chinese want as many pennies as possible for each thing.
  15. abrahamic faiths are totally against women because apparently Eve was 1. unfaithful (Cain was result, Satan was the Dad) 2. Eve caused 'the fall' and expulsion from Eden but of course Adam had free will NOT to go against God . So as you canppress see women will be always
  16. yeah well sikhi doesn't change, only humans steeped in kalyug. There was a time when sikhs looked after their mums and Dads now they turf them out and take over their parent's wealth and land ...does that mean that we shouldn't speak up about it. Used to be girls and guys were expected to not do extramarital sex , should we now not advise again. Gambling is a major cause of hardship in families, alcohol and drugs also it is not nothing
  17. sikhs are not supposed to gamble , and that cards were associated with gambling for generations meant that honourable people would never touch them, much like immoral earnings . Now everyone is lax
  18. even mention by them would have got other orgs involved and them also talking about it , and they would have got their full funding much like 'supersikh' dectective comic
  19. maybe now is the time to promote BOS and ensure its continued success by supporting the whole team and not letting it lose momentum
  20. unfortunately not known about by most , should have advertised to sikh PA ...
  21. Not a loss ..but a chitanvani how little we can trust time left , the best response to his passing and the passing of all our parchaariks is to review or immerse ourselves in what they taught and dedicate in building up our own jeevan and encourage anyone and everyone to naam jap
  22. usually dyes used leach so no good for most other purposes, besides I think most people get rid of them when they have used them upto fullest extent
  23. bro firstly a sikh cannot do drugs such as alcohol neither male or female , there is equality in duty to Guru ji , end of. the men from time of Guru Pita ji's joti jot always compared themselves to others because they forgot that their father made both them and their womenfolk equal to self-sovereign kings and princes, leaders amongst men, women. They wanted their women to start behaving like other subjugated women, and live like rajputs and other false kings in immoral pleasures. Nothing changed in all these years , the guys think they are something special because of the exploits of their ancestors but have zero to their own CV . Eventually they lost sight totally of their responsibilities to the next generation totally and let them be educated not by sikh parents/family but secular values of a corrupt country and its polluted media and entertainment outlets. Don't be surprised now if both the girls and boys are just the same as the amoral masses
  24. No problem veer ji , good luck with the house move
  25. yes I would do sanskar of them along with kes...simple enough, keeping suitcases full seems a bit much
