  1. Why are we letting this happen? the Nanakshahi calendar while not perfect (nothing ever is ) was the closest we got to maintaining seperate , unchanging dates for our commerative dates EVERY YEAR without having to go to Hindu lunar calendars to confirm if and when we celebrate the life and times of our Gurus and shaheeds. Guru ji told us to be independent of outside influence so why are we going backwards and falling back into old crazy ways? This year SGPC and Akal Takht have declared that Guru Teg Bahadur ji's shaheedi diwas can be celebrated on three different dates (personally I think every day to the year should commemerate our panth's glory) This year they have also screwed around with Guru Nanak Dev ji's Gurpurab as well meaning confusion for those Sikhs who were trying to go to Pakistan in getting permissions, and now we will celebrate our Father's prakash twice in one year and not Next???? The current level of confusion was not there in the year of the introduction of Nanakshahi calendar 2003 so how comes this year has been so disastrous could it have more to do with RSS and BJP meddling now they are in power and their paltu kootey are now trying to show loyalty by messing up sangat ? If we go back to 2003 version and accept only the tradition of celebrating Guru Nanak's prakash diwas on the date of the full moon as per gurbani , surely that would be better than this almighty mess?
  2. If you are that worried about people wasting money , why not re-release the other dharmic animation films again and use the groundswell of public interest in Sikhi to benefit the sangat further and spread the history further into the world attention? Lay down mutlilingual tracks for the originally Punjabi dubbed movies and go for it , miniscule outlay maximum effect.
  3. that's because in their rush to comply with perceived success they decide to leave their own roots , 'akaal dakey jini nahin hagae' the other thing I've noticed my Indian cousins cannot read Gurmukhi they can only read hindi script which I find irritating to look at let alone try to read , somehow it feels wrong to me ... maybe the namak <banned word filter activated> aspect of panjabi hindus is in my subconcious mind
  4. My Mum's nanakey is lahut badhi and my Mamey fro that pind speak animatedly like most punjabis but they use language which seems more in common with the style of nihangs i.e. no swearing and mitta in terms of not boastful, loud or brash i.e. more like Guru ji's advises us to speak . Of course My family includes those who talk in 'dus pind avaz' even off the phone my saki Masi is one, she's toned down since coming back from Jalandhar but slips back. I enjoy listening to tet Punjabi it is karrahri
  5. Dada ji's family lost everything in partition and had to move over from where they originated but I have no-one to ask here in UK so possibly they are from a bit more different background than I can say. But I will say Nanakey have a more gentle style, vocabulary and rhythm of speaking comparatively
  6. Mum and Dad used to watch oldies from pakistan as well as b&Ws from India so I know what you mean when you talk about the musicality and aliveness of our maa boli ...Mum used to kid around with 'pe lie-ah ke' for pio ghio lehanda... the only other 'sikh' family near us were amritsari boy Pushpa Kaur spoke as fast as a rail injin but it was awe-inspiring. Dada ji taught me about Singha di boli roodu parshad -ganda , mitteh parshadey -bhaiaya rotian ... we need to have our own itihaasic boli dictionary so the old code names don't get lost and we can add to them...
  7. so Dad was from near Moga and Mum was from Kamalpura tehsil Jagroan they used to do this little thing about salt she Noon he No , Loon are they actually from different dialects ? I wasn't that lucky my Dada ji only ever spent three months with me and my Dadi ji died when I was one so I am not sure of any deeper differences ... it's funny how our language is what unites yet divides us.
  8. sounds like dialects are what you are talking about slight differences which add up to a different flow and vocabulary

    Eyesight Yoga

personally I steer clear of yogic breathing exercises but I have had reasonable results with 'the Bates Method' which has an eyechart which you use to focus on to exercise focal muscles ...

    Tabla Problems

if you try the program you can set the taal to whatever you want to practice and then you can match up with that, maybe recording sections you want to replicate from teacher and playing alongside may help too
  12. could they have not picked different initials thus no confusion on ballots any ideas about calibre of SIkhs involved here ?
  13. First step is to make ourselves, our children and grandchildren strong in Sikh rehit and bani so they can fill the voids left behind after those nalaik people are removed. Strength of the panth has always come from the villages so parchar and support is vital, we need to support their children and get them into Sikhi too. Clean-up by drug rehab on a local basis and dharam parchar espcially to the Bibian because they are the glue holding the families together. We need to outreach to other states and do parchar there and support the isolated sikhs in other locations in India such as the sikligar sikhs.
  14. can cut kale in fine shreds for salads, but my kids fave is stir fried with soy sauce, onions, ginger, chilli, garlic and a bit of orange juice (becomes a little sweet and sour) can mix into cooked pasta , usually they eat the greens first then the pasta (usually unhappy if they don't get lots of greens in their plate). p.s. you can cook broccoli same way
  15. I understood that due to it's movement there will be a period when Guru Gobind SIngh ji's gurpurab will not be celebrated as it will not exist also the fact that the slow movement across time the main dates for us as a Panth will not longer fall in the correct seasons
  16. If 'leaders ' can not /will not put their heads above the parapet maybe the best thing is to put it to worldwide sangat after putting pros and cons of both bikrami and Nanakshahi calendars , the fact that the sangat is ultimately the ones who will uphold the gurpurabs and shaheedi diwases. The advantadge is, the Guru Panth will make the decision and all will have to stand be it as in old times. If they, the 'leaders' fail to do so, They will show themselves to be thinking themselves above Gurus in status and thus not worthy of listening to.
  17. Bhai Sahib Bhai Pinderpal SIngh ji saka Chamkaur eleven parts - so good
  18. I think it is good that it didn't happen because the current media storm about Dosanjh would have overshadowed the movie , kind of like that fake fight at Harmandir Sahib on 30 year commeration of 1984 overshadowed the actual message of what we were trying to get out on world media.I wish with all my soul that this work will change the minds of these singers but, I agree that they have not been good examples in any way for aspiring Sikh youth, that is up till now.
  19. you want patiala pegwala to be associated with this? the right team was selected , what was meant to be happened I'm thankful many thousand times over
  20. Enjoy veer ji https://soundcloud.com/gpsk/sets/bir-rass-katha-bhai-jangbir-singh-ji
  21. Waheguru ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh, Veer ji have you and your intended had amrit ?, because that would make your case stronger as to say jaat is a valid bar to marriage would be equivalent to insulting Khande di pahul as mere Pani . I am sure somebody can give the exact rehitnama quote to back this up to show your folks. In the end do ardas do paat become Guru wale and He will help you always.
  22. Waheguru ji ka Khalsa Waheguru ji ki Fateh It makes my heart ache with shame that anyone could honestly be even thinking of questioning Shaheed Bhai Mani Singh ji, I mean he along with SHaheed Baba Deep Singh ji were jiwan mukht from listening Guru Gobind Singh ji's Katha of Guru Granth Sahib ji. Such a soul why would they ? how could they?
  23. If you are feeling brave you could try hemp milk but I have to admit it has a strong taste
  24. Kale is really great for your health , if you can try to get broccoli sprouts they will be as good and easier to eat more of, as they are most nutrient dense than grown up plants, I tend to use tenderstem broccoli raw in salads , my tip is trim base and rinse then soak in cold water the broccoli will take on a bit of water and become a bit more tender to eat when cut up . Rice milk is ok a bit sweet but can get unsweetened also oat milk

    Tabla Problems

The original reason I got it was I needed something metronome like to help with bowing speeds during saptak practice and onwards and regular ones didn't allow for classic Indian beats ...best solution I could find without shelling out loads of money for a dedicated electronic tabla kit box.
