  1. Not a hate crime. A vicious act of criminality that has robbed a Sikh family of someone beloved to them, but not a hate crime, I.e. a crime motivated by racial, sexual, or other prejudice, typically one involving violence. The unfortunate act would've played out the same if it had been a non-Sikh at the store. The two issues of the robbery and the general hostility towards Sikhs in the U.S. is being conflated. It's misleading and dishonest. We won't be taken seriously if we continue to make the elementary mistakes.
  2. From a non-religious perspective, medieval India and much of the world was built on the accomplishments of men. Every facet of life was tailored to the male identity. With the incredible hard work that had to be undertaken by our Gurus to establish the Sikh faith, I'm sad to say the social climate at the time would've been incredibly hostile to a woman not only from external Mughal and Hindu opposition, but also internal issues stemming from family, community, etc. I'm not saying a female incarnation of God would've failed, but even Waheguru understands how foolish humanity can behave at times. These are my thoughts on the subject. It's a valid question. The true answer, as always, is "Only God knows."
  3. True words. In this age where image and perception are prioritised over substance and truth, knowing how to say certain things in order to make them digestible to a wide as audience as possible is key.
  4. And what level of warning should the East carry? Some of the delusion and brown-washing on the part of some Sikhs is mind-boggling. The West has its faults. There's absolutely no doubts about that, but to pretend that a "purer" Sikh lifestyle could be lived in the East on the basis of, "There's something special in the air over there," is laughable.
  5. I don't get it myself. Even a patka on a grown male with kesh and facial hair seems dodgy to me. I know a dumalla or even a small turban isn't practical in something like wrestling, judo, etc., but there's got to be a better alternative to a handkerchief. There's a picture knocking around of a Sikh (as in uncut kesh and facial hair) Olympic wrestler from back in the 60's who use to compete with a head covering similar to a hair net but not a mesh-like material. It was basically to stop his joorah from coming loose and so that a grown man didn't have to wear a hanky on his head.
  6. Don't want to leave behind the desi haldi and dry ingredients, lol.
  7. That's not a photograph, but an illustration. Slightly misleading description.
  8. Coming soon to a European country near you. Isis fighters laughing and joking as a slave girl is raped in another room.
  9. It takes a certain type of female to do what someone like JKV has done. Someone who isn't a sheep, and dare I say, a woman with "balls." I've noticed even younger, western born Gursikh bibiya are falling victim to the appeasement mentality, whereby they'd rather be popular and inclusive and not rock the boat, than speak the truth from a Gurmat and common sense perspective and perhaps make certain people uncomfortable.
  10. Personally, I think it was a pragmatic idea to increase our numbers. That only happens if Sikhs marry Sikhs. Of course, there's going to be theological interpretations about what the hukam signified, but looking back at the era the hukam was established and the state of Sikh society at the time, it had to be a method of encouraging the growth of Sikh numbers.
  11. He probably sees you adhering to Sikhi tenets, and it's a painful reminder of what he wishes he could do if he had the desire and discipline to do so. You being you is triggering him, lol. You can't reason with irrationality, more so when it's paired with the stubbornness of certain Punjabi males of a particular mentality. Aside from going your own way, there's nothing you can really do aside from tough it out.
  12. Excellent, I understand now. I've been planning on overhauling my training to gear it towards power and endurance, so this is perfect. Thanks again.
  13. Great. I'd like to move towards bodyweight exercises, because there's very little practical use in being aesthetically pleasing when there's a scrap going on. So, wait, dandhs are separate to baitaka? Because baitaka are - I'm guessing - squats, so what are dandhs? Is there a difference? Thanks, brother.
  14. Is there any serious benefit to doing Dandh Baitaka without weights, or should they always be done with weights, i.e. squats? How many Baitaka should be done in terms of reps and squats?
  15. Brock Lesnar has a thorough grounding in the art of grappling (putting aside the theatrics of sports entertainment, i.e. wrestling), so when he does return to UFC it's cool to see him employing his mat wrestling skills and succeeding. It may seem boring to some, but once you've got a fella off his feet, then the job is nearly done.
  16. Look at the balls on this guy, lol. This is France, apparently earlier this week. Inna da dhar chak ho gaya. They're basically thumbing their nose at the goreh of these European countries. Can you imagine what they'll do as their numbers expand?
  17. Or it encourages the passive-aggressive dismissing of what might be a valid opinion by tainting it as unpopular by people unable to formulate a coherent counter-argument due to it threatening their blinkered outlook on life.
  18. Yeah, the childish down-voting of opinions seemed to be a thing of the past, but it's returned for some reason.
  19. What I've observed - putting issues of apocalyptic times aside for a moment - is the abandoning of "the facade." There's a boldness to the people in-charge. It use to be about sticking to a narrative, not rocking the boat, easy does it, etc. But recently it's as if they can't be bothered to play the game, lol. They're operating in broad daylight, even if it highlights their deceptions, but they're confident that nobody will call them out on it. That's the most worrying aspect of it.
  20. It's incredibly buggy at my end. Quoting is a nightmare. Editing is hit and miss.
