  9. :TH: Nice - whoever did it, it was nice [1 thing i dont mean to be picky but they spelt tribute as tribue] nice tho.
  10. Sangat Ji... I saw this movie (and will review it in the upcoming SikhSpeak Mag OCTOBER www.sikhspeak.com) I think it was a decent attempt and by no means poor, as a reader wrote. Obviously, due to budget and acting abilities it has its shortcomings, and their are episodes of "overdoing" it....but nevertheless, its sensitively produced with some nice dialogue... Overall, if we don't support/go to watch these films, who will? This will be the end of Sikhi cinema before its started! GO SUPPORT! :T: For more wait for the review in SikhSpeak 1st Issue - OCTOBER 06 - FREE - Sign Up at SikhSpeak.Com
  11. In our thoughts, hearts, prayers and ardaas... A loss to the Khalsa Panth....
  12. Sat1176: It is being shown in Himalaya Cinema (on Southall Broadway - the really desified cinema lol) and maybe, possibly Cineworld Feltham (but I cant see it on their website). I am truly looking forward to this...we badly need Sikh Films..... As far as actors playing people I AGREE 100%... I dont think people should be allowed to play Guru's but I dont really see anything wrong with Saints/Matryrs... Like I said there's some awakenings needing to be done. I hope that helps. :T: MORE SIKHI FILMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Films are a medium (or media in general) can reach more people than ever before, the only urge is to have proper distribution and if our own people don't go down the broadway and start to BOOTLEG! (let's face it this would kill an already small industry) btw what is this obsession with VCDs yuck.............. stick it on a DVD please!
  13. GurSikhs, I have been reading some of the interesting points, just wanted to add a few points of my own, these are probably not for everyone, just what I think: 1) As far as I know, and read, and heard on interviews, Tigerstyle donot play the shaheedi tracks in clubs (it also says so on the album) 2) Someone said do we want Quantity or quality - WHY NOT BOTH? why Do you have to choose? Say, you have Mr X who is not well known doing gurmat parchar to youngsters, and now you have Mr Y (who every youngster looks up to or identifies with or thinks they're cool). If Mr Y starts to do Gurmat Parchar it will reach a lot more youth and engage alot more youth CONVERTING QUANTITY to QUALITY ultimately. I like the point of the lotus, the way I see this is as refining uncut jewels :T: 3) Whether, as a whole, we agree or not, I think especially in the UK some "non-orthodox" methods are badly needed for the youth - cos in short most are "lost" and if this form of "music (loosely used)" helps even 1 GurSikh identitfy it's worth it 4) As far as Club Dj'ing, wrong or right, we can't judge at the end of the day. If they are making an honest living and living their own lives in a GurSikh fashion perhaps in time they may want to stop all this ....we can't speak for people who aren't here! Agree or disagree, just my 2 pence worth
  14. Bhai Kahan Singh Ji spent 20 years in research before he wrote Mahan Kosh. This is not to say that his work is 100% perfect but much of the evidence pertains to Guru Ji having three Mehals. I have a pothi about 100 years old which has detailed account of Guru Ji's Anand Karaj with Mata Sahib Kaur Ji. She is called Mata because She was a wife of Guru Sahib. Any bibi who was not married to Guru Sahib cannot be our Mata. This discussion has taken place before so no need to do it again. Also, this matter does not and should not change our Sikh way of life. Believe in what you want but keep one thing in mind: ਗੁਰਿ ਕਹਿਆ ਸਾ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਹੁ ॥ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਕਰਣੀ ਕਾਹੇ ਧਾਵਹੁ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਹੁ ॥27॥ Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Interesting, Bijla Singh...what about Mata Bhag Kaur?
  15. Interesting Thanks Militant Singh...anyways for youth to do something 'productive,' especially in West London, so many Gurdwaras, yet all the youth on the streets! Can I just ask...When listening it says this is volume 2 - do you have / give me Vol 1? Thanks...
  16. Thanks for that, listening to it now....I also don't think this current guy is "listening" Having worked in Heathrow, getting in and out is like FORT KNOX.
  17. :TH: if your near southall i would recommend the Sikh Missionary Society a) They are all sewadars b) all the money goes back into a charity which has served the UK long before i was alive!
  18. Dear Sangat Ji, [MODS can you make this STICKY PLEASE?] The SikhSpeak website, SikhSpeak.Com is online now, please sign up FREE to receive the e-Magazine. Tell your friends and family..... 20. Dear all, Gurfateh Ji! [move if in wrong place] I have an unusual request...I am looking for a dvd/vcd/vhs of "Dukh Bhanjan Tera Naam (1974)" Bollywood/Punjabi film. It was released into mainstream cinema hence it was very popular. Many people may know the film BUT I CAN'T SEEM to find it anywhere. The film touches on the dukh bhanjan beri now in Harmandir Sahib. This is a bit of a personal film that I am trying to find for my gran (has nostalgic appeal) I know it was released in USA (on SOVEN/SAMRAT on dvd) I have tried ordering it but no one has it in stock (tried 5 different places online so dont send a google link) I AM HOPING SOMEONE IN THE SANGAT HAS IT? If so please send me an email at sikhspeak@gmail.com Many thanks
  21. Dear Singh Soorma, If you want different moods, you're after SCORES (from SOundtracks) Like some one said the best people are : Enya Hans Zimmer Ron Howrd Howard Shore THEYVE DONT ALL THE MAJOR OSTs you can think off. And Enyas stuff is not always vocal (in terms of singing I mean). I think this should keep you covered...the Lord of the Rings are really good for different moods, you have happy, sad etc etc
  22. Proactive, Gurfateh Ji! It's an important and great initiative, keep it up! I know that the state in Southall of our Gurdware has only detiorated, after all we have about a million in the space of 5 miles (why? I think its down to ousting certains people and egos etc.) BUT SERIOUSLY a meeting is very important, I may cover the election in SikhSpeak Magazine - So keep me posted.... I know the latest is that SS has got the go ahead for a primary school - GREAT! But what about all the other mess...it's almost like they washing their hands of certain things! GET YOUTH OF THE STREETS FIRST AND INTO THE GURDWARAS! Editor@SikhSpeak.Com SikhSpeak.Com Subscribe@SikhSpeak.Com
  23. Thas a whole heap of longness!!!! I hope HardKaurWarrorz got ur advice you were looking for, interesting views amongst the funny business. Jokes aside, a pretty RELEVANT topic for the youth of today, these issues need to be addressed: FOR THAT MATTER, A Sikh Girl asked me - Sikhism preaches equality for all (she is seeing a white guy) SO WHY HAVE I BEEN DISOWNED BY MY PARENTS FOR GOING OUT WITH A WHITE GUY Now, I know this is wrong but to be honest I couldnt back it up with a STONEWALL ANSWER does anyone have one? Gurbani/Other SENSIBLE ANSWER.... :TH:
  24. Very interesting post sangat Ji. Just been going though it, in fact, I became a member today (and have done ever since I was 18 an eligible to vote). In fact, the arguments I hear are too often "brush under the carpet issues," they are corrupt! I know it's pretty demoralising, but let's face it there needs to be change. Everytime theres an election or AGM you always hear of a fight outside Park Ave. The stupidest thing I heard was a "havan" at Park Ave (car park). Now, I hear all the constructive arguements regarding the opposition as well. It's too late for a Youth Council although I think a YOUTH COUNCIL would be the best, what is needed is a PARTY/TEAM. None of this I am the President nonsense - THE PRESIDENT DOES NOT RUN THE GURDWARA - Its the whole team (or party or whatever you want to call it). I do feel, with Singh Sabha its got to a stage of THIS IS MY TERRITORY - Noone wants to back down or let go - EVEN FOR THE GOOD OF THE SIKH NATION. The craziest thing Singh Sabha could do SO much. Whoever, posted about becoming active members was DEAD RIGHT - The youth need to take an active stand. I appreciate there are some issues but a team of 20 strong youth, would definetly clean the place up, and actually provide something back, lets face it, its all great making a beautful Guru Ghar but its EMPTY 24-7. Now Facts: - The biggest crack/cocaine users in Southall - SIKHS - The biggest suppliers - SIKHS This is a real shame, there are so many projects that need to be dealt with - yet I think we need to clean up the Gurdwara first! Sorry if Ive gone a bit off topic (you get my drift).... PS i also hear (a rumour I dont know?!) that they are trying to make Singh sabha a PLC i.e. Shareholders (party) will own the Gurdwara
