  8. Why is marriage so important in Sikhee? Guru Sahib has taught us to live in Grihstee (house holder life) this is the only true way one will purify this filthy mind and become pure in the eyes of Guru Sahib. Daas has tried to explain in many previous posts why one will only become pure through keeping Grihstee Jeevan, even Bhai Gurdaas Jee gave an amazing amount of respect to one who purifies their mind whilst living in Girastee Jeevan, Bhai Sahib was not Girastee himself, but said this is the best form of living, and keeping Man-dee-Rehit, (discipline of mind), as this is the most difficult Rehit to keep. ghurubaaree jeevun mukath lehur nehee lub lobh biaapai The householder is liberated in life; he is not afraid of the waves of the world's ocean and fear does not enter his heart. Only through practising Gurmat in this terrifying world Ocean will one be liberated, Guru Sahib will give the Gurmukh guidance and wisdom through Shabad in how to deal with everyday life comfortably, and also how to keep close to Guru Sahibs feet through the support of Athai Pehar Naam Abhiyaas. A Gursikh will never feel uncomfortable in any situation, as the Gurmukhs mind will be relaxed and open through Shabad, a Gurmukh will deal with every situation peacefully and lovingly, one will propose all means before drawing the Sword. (Please refer to the Saint-Soldier article). The Gurmukh becomes Pooran (pure) by accepting the will of the great Lord Vahiguroo. The Gurmukh cannot be knocked out of balance, as one deals with every situation in Sehj through Shabad. One of the main reasons why it is so important to be Girastee and married is if one runs away from society and the world to meditate like Siddhs, Buddhs they would reach very high states of spirituality, but if they decided to return they would most definitely struggle in the World, as they have not taught their minds how to deal with worldly situations in peace with a balanced mind through Shabad, their minds would be caught up in evil thoughts, and even meditation and keeping concentration would be an up hill struggle for these people. It would take a lot longer to reach high states of spirituality in Girastee than it would running away from the world, for obvious reasons of Dhiaan (concentration) would take longer to develop, but one thing is for sure the Gurmukh develops Dhiaan slowly through Shabad but would be poised in every worldly situation. The other reason is the Siddhs, Jatees, Tappees etc never did anything for society in terms of virtues spreading love, compassion and bringing people on to the path of God for liberation and a much more peaceful life. khaadhee khunus jogeeshuraa gosutt kurun subhae outh aaee All the yogis getting irritated grouped together and came forward to have a debate. pushae jogee bhungr naath thuhi dhudh vich kio kaajee paaee Yogi Bhangar Nath asked, (Why have you put vinegar in milk?) fitt aa chaattaa dhudh dhaa rirrakiaa mukhun huth n aaee The spoiled milk cannot be churned into butter. bhaekh ouaathur oudhaas dhaa vuth kio sunsaaree reeth chulaaee How have you put off yogic garb and attired yourself in a household way. naanuk aakhae bhungrunaath thaeree maao kuchuujee aaee Said Nanak, (O Bhangar Nath, your mother-teacher is unmannerly) bhaaddaa dhoe n jaathioun bhaae kuchujae ful surraaee She has not cleansed the innerself of your body-pot and your clumpsy thoughts have burnt your flower (of knowledge which was to become fruit). hoe atheeth grihusuth thuj fir ounehoonkae ghur mungun jaaee You, while distancing and repudiating house hold life, go again to those householders for begging. ôú॥ bin dhithae kish huth n aaee Except their offerings you don’t get anything. Bhai Gurdaas Jee is saying in this Shabad, the Yogees have earned no divine wisdom according to Gurmat and virtuous living, they have given nothing in terms of wisdom and virtue to the householders, but yet they go begging to the householders for money in terms for survival, Bhai Sahib has called them selfish and unmannerly. When the time is right a Gursikh should always prepare for marriage, this is a very tricky situation, as one is use to practicing and living by their self. A Gurmukh should not look too hard in to marriage, as one should be in loving devotion with the Lord, a Gurmukh will live in Bhaanaa (the will of God) and let be, Guru Sahib will find the right soul mate when the time is right. Thinking about marriage will stop ones development in Sikhee and unbalance the mind. One should leave this decision to Guru Sahib and practice patience. (Ang 98) mnu qnu sIqlu DIrju pwieAw ] mun thun seethul dheeruj paaeiaa My mind and body have been cooled and soothed; I have been blessed with patience and composure. One should realize the importance of marriage, one should realize how to love, respect and accept their partners for what they are, as Guru Sahib has made everybody different. Marriage is the merging of two souls in which have been separated for many lifetimes. Love is very important in a relationship this should not be mistaken by attachment the two are totally different. The word love means sacrifice of ones being for another. Guru Gobind Singh Jee loved all beings as one, when a Gursikh asked Guru Sahib to cover the bodies of his brave Shaheed (martyrs) sons, Guru Sahib said, have you got enough material to cover the bodies of all of my sons and daughters on the battlefield. Guru Sahib was blessed with true devotional divine love at the same time Guru Sahib was detached. One must love but learn to let go and remain detached. dhun pir eaehi n aakheean behan eikuthae hoe They are not said to be husband and wife, who merely sit together. eaek joth dhue mooruthee dhun pir keheeai soe They alone are called husband and wife, who have one light in two bodies. 3 Dhan Guru Amardaas Jee, Guru sahib has explained the beautiful meaning of marriage in these two lines, Husband and Wife are one, one soul in two bodies, they are Sangat, they live in peace, they are one to one with each other, they will only be separated and departed through death. Guru Sahib says in Gurbaanee two souls only come together through past deeds, these souls were made to be together in this life, they should never be separated. Divorce is a very big problem in Western countries, the sad thing is practicing Amritdhaaree Gursikhs are getting divorced. The reason for this is Ego and negative minds. The Gursikhs who turn to divorce have never really understood the true meaning of marriage in Gurmat. A Naam Abhiyaasee Gursikh battling with their mind every second of the day would never turn to divorce. The choice of Divorce is a 'no no' for a Gursikh no matter what the circumstance, just as the choice of being homosexual or committing suicide is not accepted in Gurmat, a Gursikh should always turn to Shabad and Gurbaanee for support stay strong and live in Bhaanaa (the divine will). Daas understands there are many ups and downs in relationships, but the true Gurmukh always deals with them in peace and love, the true Gurmukh changes their partners negative mind in to a positive mind by not reacting negatively, we have to accept everybody is different and that it is our duty to make this relationship work, even if this means a sacrifice in personal Jeevan or Rehit for the time being. We have to remember we cannot have everything our way, as now we are two bodies one soul. It only takes one Gurmukh in a relationship to purify the relationship and live in everlasting peace, as arguments, disagreements, and negatives only come through ego and reacting. The other thing we have to remember is our marriage ceremony has been witnessed by Guru Sahib and the Sangat through Shabad, an Ardaas has been done for everlasting commitment and blessing in this relationship. It is not for us to separate in this relationship, if anyone has the authority to divide us it is only Guru Sahib. DIVORCE IS A SIGN OF TOTAL MANMAT. jio thurunee ko kunth baalehaa thio maerai man raameeaa and the husband is dear to his wife, so is the Lord to my mind. 3 Guru Sahib explains in this Shabad, just as the Husband is dear to his Wife in this way our true Husband Lord should always be dear to our minds through loving devotion of Naam. har pehilurree laav puraviruthee kurum dhrirraaeiaa bal raam jeeo In the first round of the marriage ceremony, the Lord sets out His Instructions for performing the daily duties of married life. baanee brehumaa vaedh dhurum dhrirruhu paap thujaaeiaa bal raam jeeo Instead of the hymns of the Vedas to Brahma, embrace the righteous conduct of Dharma, and renounce sinful actions. dhurum dhrirruhu har naam dhiaavuhu simrith naam dhrirraaeiaa Meditate on the Lord's Name; embrace and enshrine the contemplative remembrance of the Naam. sathigur gur pooraa aaraadhuhu sabh kilavikh paap guvaaeiaa Worship and adore the Guru, the Perfect True Guru, and all your sins shall be dispelled. sehuj anundh hoaa vuddubhaagee man har har meethaa laaeiaa By great good fortune, celestial bliss is attained, and the Lord, Har, Har, seems sweet to the mind. jun kehai naanuk laav pehilee aarunbh kaaj ruchaaeiaa Servant Nanak proclaims that, in this, the first round of the marriage ceremony, the marriage ceremony has begun. har dhoojurree laav sathigur purukh milaaeiaa bal raam jeeo In the second round of the marriage ceremony, the Lord leads you to meet the True Guru, the Primal Being. nirubho bhai mun hoe houmai mail guvaaeiaa bal raam jeeo With the Fear of God, the Fearless Lord in the mind, the filth of egotism is eradicated. nirumul bho paaeiaa har gun gaaeiaa har vaekhai raam hudhoorae In the Fear of God, the Immaculate Lord, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and behold the Lord's Presence before you. har aathum raam pusaariaa suaamee surub rehiaa bhurupoorae The Lord, the Supreme Soul, is the Lord and Master of the Universe; He is pervading and permeating everywhere, fully filling all spaces. anthar baahar har prubh eaeko mil har jun mungul gaaeae Deep within, and outside as well, there is only the One Lord God. These verses are read out to us and sung to us in the form of Keertan whilst we perform the ceremony of marriage. Guru Sahib is uniting two souls they cannot be separated by any force in the World including our negative minds. Please forgive Daas for any mistakes, as it was not Daas' intention to hurt any Soul. The message Daas was trying to get across is divorce is a not right in Gurmat, and please think a thousand times before taking this step. It only takes one Gurmukh to change the face of a relationship and this will only be accomplished by the teachings of Gurbaanee and Athai Pehar Naam Abhiyaas.
  9. Twenty-Four Hours Daily We always state that we have given our head to Guru Sahib, we have taken Ammrit, we will walk backwards in Guru Sahibs Hazooree because we don’t want to turn our back towards Guru Sahib, we say we are in Hukum, we say we keep Guru Sahibs Tat (true) Rehit, we say we rise early in the mornings, we say we keep every Asool (rule) a Gursikh should keep, in terms of eating only at the house of other Amritdhaaree gursikhs, only eating out of the hands of other Sarbloh Bibekee Gursikhs, always wearing Baanaa. WE SAY WE WILL NEVER TURN OUR BACK ON GURU SAHIB. aath pehur prubh dhiaae thoon gun goeindh nith gaao Twenty-four hours a day, meditate on God. Constantly sing the Glories of the Lord of the Universe. this kee surunee pur munaa jis jaevudd avur n koe Seek His Shelter, O my mind; there is no other as Great as He. Lets ask ourselves are we really in Hukum? Have we already turned our back towards Guru Sahib? Have we really given our head to Guru Sahib? Have we really tasted the true Ammrit? Do we really keep the Rehit Guru Sahib is asking us to keep, the Rehit stated in Guru Granth Sahib again and again? We rise early in the mornings but are we awake for the rest of the day? We keep the Rehit of our physical body in terms of what goes in, but do we eat the real food, the food in which will purify our mind, body and soul, the food in which will liberate us and liberate the blessed ones around us, are we eating drinking and sleeping this food? We are wearing the Baanaa on the outside, what state is our Baanaa on the inside? What is the state of the Baanaa of the mind? jeea junth sabh jin keeeae aath pehur this jaap Meditate twenty-four hours a day on the One who created all beings and creatures. What is the true Rehit, Hukum (command) given to us by Guru Sahib in Guru Granth Sahib Jee, there is one Hukum and that is the command of Athai Pehar Naam Abhiyaas (24/7) with every breath. Do we follow this command? If we don’t we are still Manmukhs following the way of this filthy mind, Guru Sahib says in Gurbaanee, if we miss Naam for one second this is a thought wasted in evil, this is the time we are living in Kaljug, (the age of darkness), when we are remembering the beautiful feet of Guru Sahib Jee this is the time we are living in Satjug (the age of truth). Kaljug and Satjug is a state of mind we can live in whichever state we choose the choice is ours, through sincere effort and blessing we will live in the state of Satjug, through apathy and laziness we live in the state of Kaljug, the choice is ours. hulath pulath mukh oojulae saachae kae gun saar In this world and in the world hereafter, radiant are the faces of those who cherish and enshrine the Glories of the True Lord. aath pehur gun saarudhae ruthae rung apaar Twenty-four hours a day, they lovingly dwell upon His Glories; they are imbued with His Infinite Love. What is the reason we do not follow this Hukum of Athai Pehar Naam Abhiyaas? But we are willing to keep physical Rehits to the extreme and think Guru Sahib will bless us for keeping such Rehits without the vaasaa (presence) of Naam within us, the only time Guru Sahib will bless his Gursikhs with Chardee kallaa is when we Jap Naam Athai Pehar with every breath, this is the Hukum we choose to ignore or we find very difficult, but this is the Hukum in which will only bring us Divine-knowledge, love, compassion, and the liberation of many souls. saachee poonjee such sunjumo aath pehur gun gaao The True Capital, and the True Way of Life, comes by chanting His Glories, twenty-four hours a day. We say we should never turn our back towards Guru Sahib in his Hazooree, Daas agrees, but in reality we turn our back towards Guru Sahib every second of the day, because in reality we are not in Guru Sahibs Hukum and we are not following his command. Guru Sahib says in Gurbaanee, my back will be towards the one who turns his back towards God by not remembering the one who created us and give us the opportunity of human life to become one with God again. Our Gurus were, are and will only be in love with the almighty Lord and will only bless the ones who are in love with the almighty Lord Vaahiguroo. such khaanaa such painunaa suchae suchaa naao True is the food, and true are the clothes, of those who chant the True Name of the True One. saas giraas n visurai suful moorath gur aap With each breath and morsel of food, do not forget the Guru, the Embodiment of Fulfillment. gur jaevudd avur n dhisee aath pehur this jaap None is seen to be as great as the Guru. Meditate on Him twenty-four hours a day. When we took Ammrit the Panj asked us for our heads and we promised them from that day our head was Guru Sahibs, when Guru Jee asked for our heads he explained, this death is even more difficult than physical death, even then we agreed and said, that is fine, Guru Jee said it is sharper than a Sword and finer than a Hair will you be able to play this game of love? We all agreed, Guru Jee taught us how to Meditate and said take this away with you and remember the name with every breath, we all agreed, Guru Jee told us our Rehit we all agreed, we all came in crying and dying for Ammrit and nobody would have liked to be turned away, but did we realise what we are actually getting ourselves in to? Did we realise from this day onwards our old self is dead and we are born again through Amrit, Rehit and Naam? Have we really given our head to Guru Sahib? Sorry to say most of us lied to Guru Sahib, as we have not sold our minds to Guru Sahib through Athai Pehar Naam Abhiyaas, but this is a must do in the rules of Guru Jee, if we do not meditate Athai Pehar, this might sound strong but we have not really given our heads to Guru Sahib. This is the reason in the Praatan (earlier) times Gursikhs had to sit through full Akhand Paaths in order to receive Amrit-Naam, even then some were tested and sent back without being blessed with Ammrit. We walk in to an Amrit Sanchaar knowing the Panj will not physically take our heads so we have no Bhea (fear), this is why Guru Sahib physically took the heads of our beloved Panj Pyaare. WE ONLY GIVE OUR HEAD WHEN WE GIVE OUR MIND TO GURU SAHIB AND THROUGH PURIFICATION OF NAAM. aath pehur govindh gun gaaeeai bisur n koee saasaa jeeo Twenty-four hours a day, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe. Do not forget Him, for even one breath. 1 Have we really tasted the true Amrit? What is Amrit? Mrit means death, Amrit means the opposite; immortal, how do we become immortal beings? Only through Naam will we become immortal beings. The true Ammrit is Amrit-Naam, this is the substance in which will liberate us and liberate thousands around us, but to awaken this substance of Ammrit inside us we have to take the support of Amrit-Naam through single minded Athai Pehar Naam Abhiyaas, when this Amrit rises from the Naval to the Dasam Duaar and one becomes in touch with the third world this is the time when one becomes immortal and lives ones life in ecstasy, in total detachment of the World whilst living in the World. THIS IS TRUE AMRIT; ATHAI PEHAR NAAM ABHIYAAS. aath pehur thudh jaapae puvunaa Twenty-four hours a day, the wind breathes Your Name. Even the Wind meditates on God 24/7, why shouldn’t we? We all talk about keeping physical Rehit, Daas agrees it is very important in Gursikhi to keep physical Rehit and self-discipline, but Daas would also like to say we as Gursikhs put more emphasis on physical Rehit than Man Di Rehit (the Rehit of the mind), they are both as important as each other, one cannot live without the other, they both tie hand in hand, but Daas believes if we keep extreme physical Rehits we should most definitely keep an extreme Man Di Rehit (discipline of mind), as this is the Rehit repeated to us by the Gurus, Bhagats, and Bhatts in the Guru Granth Sahib. Just as we feel lost making mistakes or slacking in our physical Rehit we should feel even more lost and slack if not Japing Naam, as nothing is Parvaan (accepted) if it is not accompanied by the Lords Name Vahiguroo, if it is not accompanied by the Lords name it becomes SiaaNap (cleverness), there should strictly be no Til (slacking) when Japping the Lords name, as there should be no slack in our physical Rehit. Daas has heard Gursikhs in the past saying only those who keep the Rehit of Sarbloh Bibek are the true RehitVaan Gursikhs, this is a very narrow minded, judgemental of others and egotistical statement, as there were, are, and always will be very spiritual Gursikhs in the Panth without keeping the Rehit of Sarbloh, the true Gurmukh keeps this additional Rehit but never emphasises one can only be Pooran (pure) through keeping this Rehit, as one can be liberated without the additional Rehit of Sarbloh. We need to accept others and not judge them for being Tillay (slack), as they might be a lot more Abhiyaasee than us, and we will never know what Karam (deeds) an individual Soul has brought with it, we need to focus on our own individual Jeevans (lives) and leave the rest to Guru Sahib, get rid of the 'I' and let people be. Daas has respect for those Gursikhs who adopt such sacrifice in their life, but Daas has to say this Rehit is worthless without the breath of Athai Pehar Naam Abhiyaas. Guru Sahib says the true Warrior and RehitVaan Gursikh is the one who battles with ones mind with every breath of ones life. This is the most difficult Rehit to keep (Samaal), but one becomes the true Soora (warrior) in the eyes of the Lord. naanuk so sooraa vureeaam jin vichuhu dhusutt ahunkurun maariaa O Nanak, he is a brave warrior, who conquers and subdues his vicious inner ego. gurumukh naam saalaahi junum suvaariaa Praising the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the Gurmukhs redeem their lives. aap hoaa sudhaa mukuth subh kul nisuthaariaa They themselves are liberated forever, and they save all their ancestors. sohan sach dhuaar naam piaariaa Those who love the Naam look beauteous at the Gate of Truth. munumukh murehi ahunkaar murun vigaarriaa The self-willed manmukhs die in egotism-even their death is painfully ugly. subho vuruthai hukum kiaa kurehi vichaariaa Everything happens according to the Lord's Will; what can the poor people do? aapuhu dhoojai lag khusum visaariaa Attached to self-conceit and duality, they have forgotten their Lord and Master. naanuk bin naavai subh dhukh sukh visaariaa O Nanak, without the Name, everything is painful, and happiness is forgotten. 1 IT IS A MUST DO BY GURU SAHIB OF ATHAI PEHAR NAAM ABHIYAAS WITH EVERY BREATH, IF WE ARE KEEPING A CERTAIN REHIT WHILST NOT JAPING NAAM WE ARE OUT OF HUKUM. jin dheenee sobhaa vaddiaaee He has given you fame and greatness; this prubh ko aath pehur dhiaaee meditate on that God, twenty-four hours a day. 1 We rise early in the mornings do a solid Amrit Velaa, but are we awake for the rest of the day? NO, most of the time we are asleep during the day, as we are not in Hukum of Athai Pehar Naam Abhiyaas, and whilst doing our worldly chores we are not supported by Naam, for this we will never find peace and never be blessed by Guru Sahib, holding the Naam close to the Heart is a must do for a Gursikh. We do Amrit velaa in a morning our whole life should be an Amrit Velaa, obviously the concentration will be slightly weaker to begin with, but as time goes on the concentration will come in to Tikkaa (steady) develop its self further, and there will be a time when the world seems totally false and we will be able to totally switch off from the world, there will definitely be a time with Guru Sahibs kirpaa (blessing) when our lives will become a walking Amrit Vela. Some people will disagree and say they don’t want this state of mind, but through Athai Pehar Naam Abhiyaas, this state of mind will be blessed to us by Guru Sahib when Guru Sahib knows we can do its Samaal (keep it controlled). There are many stages, there becomes times when Gursikhs want to get up and dance through the ecstasy of Naam and Shabad, but these states of mind need to be controlled by the individuals. This is also mentioned in Gurbaanee as Nirt. aath pehur jihuvae aaraadh Twenty-four hours a day, O tongue, dwell upon God, the Unfathomable, Supreme Lord and Master. eehaa oohaa sudhaa suhaelee Here and hereafter, you shall be happy forever. We keep the Rehit of our physical body in terms of what goes in, but do we eat the real food, the food in which will purify our mind, body and soul, the food in which will liberate us and liberate the blessed ones around us, are we eating drinking and sleeping this food? NO most of us are not eating, drinking and sleeping this food, Naam is the only form of food in which will purify this filthy mind been blackened for many lifetimes, nothing else will not even be able to scratch a speck of dirt off this filthy mind. We need to make Athai Pehar Naam Abhiyaas our food, we cannot live without food just as the fish cannot live without water and the Bhagats cannot live without Naam. If Naam has the power to purify this filthy mind and liberate our soul, don’t we think it can purify what goes inside us physically? If what we eat and touch is accompanied by the breath of the Lords name, then it is also blessed and purified by God, as there is no larger power than God. Guru Sahib says in Gurbaanee Naam is the Universe, so why can't it purify what goes inside us physically? It can but a Gursikh should always strive for self discipline and realise there is no larger Rehit than the Rehit of the mind, conquer the mind through Athai Pehar Abhiyaas and we conquer the Universe. We always judge others by saying we will not eat from others, as they are not Amritdhaaree and are not blessing the food they cook through the name of the Lord, Daas agrees but have we ever asked ourselves the question, if they are not meditating whilst cooking, are we meditating whilst eating, because if we are the food we eat will be purified through Naam. We should never judge others we should practice being the dust of the feet of all beings, as this is the state of mind of a Pooran Gursikh. We should try to look at Sikhee through the eyes of God, as God loves all beings equally and would never discriminate against any other, isn’t this the state of mind we want, sometimes we loose our loving state of mind and simple principles of Gurmat, e.g. compassion, tolerance, contentment, patience, love, giving and many other virtues through extreme rules, which in the end without realising leads to ignorance and haumai (ego) aath pehur poojuhu gur pair Twenty-four hours a day, I worship the Guru's Feet. ab math binusee dhusutt bigaanee Now, my evil sense of alienation is eliminated, How does Naam liberate people around us? Firstly only blessed ones by Guru Sahib will be attracted in to the Sangat of Abhiyaasees, secondly our profit of Naam will rub off on them through Aura energy and blessing of Guru Sahib, this strengthens their minds and also makes them Abhiyaasees, in the same way people will be attracted to this individual also, it becomes a circle. Bhai Randhir Singh and Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindraawaale were great examples; they were always in the sangat of Abhiyaasee Gursikhs and vice versa. thiaag sugul siaanupaa aath pehur prubh jaap So renounce all your cleverness, and meditate on God, twenty-four hours a day. 2 We are wearing the Baanaa on the outside, what state is our Baanaa like on the inside? What is the state of the Baanaa of the mind? The true Baanaa is purifying the Baanaa of the mind with Athai Pehar Naam Abhiyaas, Naam is the Baanaa we should be wearing on the inside at all times, once the Baanaa of the mind is cleansed through Naam and becomes Nirmal (pure) then we will most definitely be forced to wear the uniform of the Khalsa to cover our Sareer (body) on the outside. Naam comes before everything, everything comes from Naam, we slowly reach the state of Sehj (Nivaana) through Athai Pehar Naam Abhiyaas, and life becomes very much easier to live, Girastee (householders life) does not affect such blessed souls, and this is when we live in the true Hukum of Guru Sahib which is Athai Pehar Naam Abhiyaas, please remember Guru Sahib has told us there is nothing equal to Naam. BHUL CHUK MAAF. aath pehur har naam simuruhu chulai thaerai saathae Twenty-four hours a day, dwell upon the Lord's Name in meditation; it alone shall go along with you. Only the profit of Naam shall go with our soul to the world here after and nothing else. sae bhuguth sae thuth giaanee jin ko hukum munaaeae They are devotees, with the essence of spiritual wisdom, who obey the Hukam of His Command. eaehaa bhugath suchae sio liv laagai bin saevaa bhugath n hoee This is devotional worship, that one loves the True Lord; without service, one cannot be a devotee. jeevuth murai thaa subudh beechaarai thaa such paavai koee If one remains dead while yet alive, he reflects upon the Shabad, and then, he obtains the True Lord. 7 Only through following Hukum of Athai Pehar Naam Abhiyaas will we be recognised as true devotees of the Lord Vahiguroo.

gurumukh saachae kaa bho paavai The Gurmukh lives in the Fear of God, the True Lord. gurumukh baanee aghurr ghurraavai Through the Word of the Guru's Bani, the Gurmukh refines the unrefined. gurumukh nirumul har gun gaavai The Gurmukh sings the immaculate, Glorious Praises of the Lord. gurumukh pavithru purum pudh paavai The Gurmukh attains the supreme, sanctified status. gurumukh rom rom har dhiaavai The Gurmukh meditates on the Lord with every hair of his body. naanuk gurumukh saach sumaavai O Nanak, the Gurmukh merges in Truth. gurumukh puruchai baedh beechaaree The Gurmukh is pleasing to the True Guru; this is contemplation on the Vedas. gurumukh puruchai thureeai thaaree Pleasing the True Guru, the Gurmukh is carried across. gurumukh puruchai s subadh giaanee Pleasing the True Guru, the Gurmukh receives the spiritual wisdom of the Shabad. gurumukh puruchai anthur bidh jaanee Pleasing the True Guru, the Gurmukh comes to know the path within. gurumukh paaeeai alukh apaar The Gurmukh attains the unseen and infinite Lord. naanuk gurumukh mukath dhuaar O Nanak, the Gurmukh finds the door of liberation. 28 In this Shabad, Guru Sahib makes it clear how the Gurmukh (pure being) lives his/her life, and how one finds the door of liberation. Guru Sahib has also made it quite clear that the Gurmukh meditates on the Lord God with every hair of his body. Daas has heard many stories about meditating with each strand of hair, one of them is when a Gurmukh meditates with each strand of hair one hears the Shabad Vahiguroo in the hair, if one holds the hair close to ones ear. Daas would like to confirm this is not true. One has to read the Naam Drug article to realize that Naam and God is an energy that is contained in every single atom of the Universe. When ones concentration of Naam reaches a certain level one starts to meditate with every single strand of Hair. baanee raam naam sunee sidh kaaruj sabh suhaaeae raam Hearing the Bani of the Lord's Name, all my affairs were brought to perfection and embellished. romae rom rom romae mai gurumukh raam dhiaaeae raam With each and every hair, with each and every hair, as Gurmukh, I meditate on the Lord. raam naam dhiaaeae pavith hoe aaeae this roop n raekhiaa kaaee I meditate on the Lord's Name, and become pure; He has no form or shape. This line proves god is energy. raamo raam raviaa ghutt anthar subh thrisunaa bhookh guvaaee The Name of the Lord, Raam, Raam, is permeating my heart deep within, and all of my desire and hunger has disappeared. mun thun seethul seegaar subh hoaa gurumath raam prugaasaa My mind and body are totally adorned with peace and tranquility; through the Guru's Teachings, the Lord has been revealed to me. naanuk aap anugruhu keeaa hum dhaasan dhaasan dhaasaa The Lord Himself has shown His kind mercy to Nanak; He has made me the slave of the slaves of His slaves. 3 How will one know if one is meditating with each strand of Hair? What tends to happen is, ones body through Naam and Dhiaan (concentration) becomes filled with an overwhelming energy - which is felt in the Tenth Gate (Dasam Duaar area). When the concentration and Shabad stay in this area for a certain period of time constantly without the concentration coming back down to the lower energy centers known as chakras, one starts to meditate with every single strand of hair. Once the concentration is poised in the higher energy centers (chakras), most likely the concentration will not come down and should stay there. The reason it should stay there is, once one has experienced this overwhelming, ever uplifting feeling blessed by Guru Sahib one will make sure the concentration level never drops, and constantly stay in single- minded Abhiyaas (practice). One will realize when the concentration level drops, as one will also drop in to feeling down and negative emotions. Every single strand of hair on ones body is also filled with the energy of the universe (God, Naam) which becomes a magnetic force. This state of mind is only achieved by great fortune, blessing, past karam and intense Akhand (non-stop) Naam Abhiyaas. mun thun dhun jin prabh dheeaa rakhiaa sehaj suvaar This mind, body and wealth were given by God, who naturally adorns us. surub kulaa kar thaapiaa anthar joth apaar He has blessed us with all our energy, and infused His Infinite Light deep within us. sudhaa sudhaa prubh simureeai anthar rukh our dhaar Forever and ever, meditate in remembrance on God; keep Him enshrined in your heart. 1 When ever a part of ones body e.g. Arms come into close contact with anything physical, the strands of hair on ones body will physically stand on end and magnetically be pulled towards the physical object. This is a sign of one meditating with each strand of hair. One will automatically know when one is at this stage, as you actually feel the force of this energy in the head, body and hair. Daas would like to confirm this is not made up, it is personal experience; with Guru Sahibs Apaar Kirpaa. ouluttee lae sukath sehaarun Turning away from materialism, I have found intuitive support. paiseelae gugun mujhaarun I have entered into the sky of the mind, and opened the Tenth Gate. baedheealae chukr bhuangaa The chakras of the coiled Kundalini energy have been opened. (Ang 972) This is the stage where one is not affected by worldliness at all as one has learnt to accept all in the will of the great lord and let the world be, one has realized ones coming in the world is a mere play/drama; all is false. surub bhooth aap vuruthaaraa In all forms, He Himself is pervading. surub nain aap paekhunehaaraa Through all eyes, He Himself is watching. sugul sumugree jaa kaa thunaa All the creation is His Body. aapun jus aap hee sunaa He Himself listens to His Own Praise. aavun jaan eik khael bunaaeiaa The One has created the drama of coming and going. aagiaakaaree keenee maaeiaa He made Maya subservient (lowly, obey) to His Will. subh kai madh aliputho rehai In the midst of all, He remains unattached. jo kish kehunaa s aapae kehai Whatever is said, He Himself says. aagiaa aavai aagiaa jaae By His Will we come, and by His Will we go. naanuk jaa bhaavai thaa leae sumaae O Nanak, when it pleases Him, then He absorbs us into Himself. 6 One has to read the whole of the above Shabad with great concentration to work out why this life is a mere play. Guru Sahib is saying he controls everything, coming going, liberation everything is under his command. There is nothing we can do apart from accept his will as being sweet. LEARN TO BE. Daas would not like to talk too much about this subject, as it is very similar to the Naam Drug article. (Please read the Naam Drug article, as this article will make more sense.) Here are a few teachings from Singh Sahib Yogee Harbhajan Singh Jee: "When you say I am a God conscious person it means you realize that your mental capacity is infinity." "Mind is a unit energy given to you to serve you, be its guide and not its slave." "When the one pointed, infinite beam of the mind starts sending the signal into the infinity and the infinity relates to the finite, the unit becomes united and this is called the highest stage of the mind. One will only get to these stages with single-minded loving devotion."
