  2. You need to get yourself round billets not blocks to make Karai. You will break your CNC/Lathe machine straight away if you put a block onto it. Ontop of that you will be wasting more then half the metal if you buy blocks, and increasing the time it takes to make your Kareh. What machine are you going to be using? What dimensions are you lookin for? Height / Width
  3. You cannot turn fat into muscle, you can only burn the fat away and then build muscle to replace the mass that you lost. Secondly you cannot spot reduce fat, you will lose it all over, however it will go from the places you want it to go from last. As your not too far from your goal weight, Id concentrate on doing a good amount of cardio for a period of 2-3 months whilst lifting a bit of weights to build some strength up. Id recommend Dand Behtaks every day for at least 30 minutes, then add some swimming, running or cycling. etc Focus should be mainly on your diet, get rid of all junk food, fried food, crisps, coke, chocolate, cakes, excessive langar. Wake up in the morning and have a good balanced breakfast, good amount of carbs to get your metabolism going, have some toast with no butter, daliya (porridge) with no sugar, and a glass of semi skimmed milk. Have 5-6 light meals through the day so your metabolism doesnt shut down and keep active.
  4. Any hardcore gamer would have got their PS3 chipped and got some "backup" games. Then you can save your money and play the games [Note: This is not an advertisement for chipping PS3's]
  5. Its the beggining of a bola from the oral tradition of the Baba Darbara Singh Akhara
  6. Bina Abhihas Shastar Bhik Maano Without training, recognise your weapons as poison
  7. Maybe the issue is lack of physical excercise and bad eating habits within our community. Most of our elder generation have neglected physical excercise, whereas in olden times all Sikhs would have a good regime of physical excercise, from Kethi Baari, Mehntha, Dand Behtaks, Shastarvidiya, Mal Yudh, Pehri Par Behtna which kept them in good health and promoted well being. Nowadays most Sikhs (including young'uns) are unhealthy, do not excercise and over indulge in bad food. The Gurdwaras should reform the way they cook langar, make it more healthier and provide classes for old and young to participate in physical excercise. Most people are probably beyond help due to their age but even individuals like Fauja Singh the runner are a great inspiration. Even if each old person had a group who they could walk with they would automatically improve their health, sorting out issues which are currently plauging our community, diabities, cholesterol, high blood pressure, stress, mainly caused by bad eating and no excercise. If everyone was fit and well they could sit on the floor no problem. Most westerners are so unflexible they cannot sit down chaunkri maarkeh. Excuses are no reason to change the maryada of the Guru, instead we should change ourselfs. By submitting to peoples ailments and installing tables and chairs we are adding to the problem, by encouraging and improving healthy living we are helping and aiding the older and younger generations. From the times of Guru Arjan Dev Ji, physical excercise has been key to the lifestyle of each Sikh, get up and do some! If your body is healthy your mind is healthy, if your mind is healthy you can focus your mind on meditation easily, Its all connected.
  8. I wont go into details, but the strategies of the feminine penthras[Chandi] are used to counter the aggressive attacks of the masculine penthras [shiv]. This thread is not about Shastarvidiya, and those who wish to learn it should go to the akhara and not attempt to learn stuff over the net as it is impossible.
  9. Below is the opening sentences of Amarnamah When the Pure One exercised His great mercy; all the worlds became inhabited (1). The Guru pitched his tent at a place on the bank of the Godawari, where existed the graves of those who had found acceptance (at God's court) (2). The Muslims made a lot of noise. The Guru exhibited a spectacular miracle (which calmed them) (3). There (nearby) resided an ill tempered mendicant. He claimed dominion over people of the jungle as well as beings of the nether world (4). He possessed wooden sandals and a vessel of milk believed to be endowed with miraculous powers. His seat rivalled a royal throne in opulence (5). His heart was full of vanity and devoid of love altogether. He hated those who worshipped (Truth) God alone (6). He visibly did not relish our proximity with the Emperor (7). In the presence of thousands of those (assembled on the occasion of the solar eclipse), I stated this is only a normal (periodical) occurrence (8) . I can, however, say without the slightest hesitation, that his mode of worship otherwise conforms to the doctrine of Guru Nanak (9) Banda had gone to the other side of the Godawari, and after him there ~as none occupying his seat (10). The obedient Sikhs, when asked by the Guru to kill the goats belonging to Banda,(ll) Complied and slaughtered all the goats (12). (On seeing this) tribal people (of the vicinity) rushed like wind, obviously eager to cook the meat (13). After taking the sacramental offering, the Sikhs were ordered (20) To rejoice in the name of Guru Nanak, to relax and to take a swim T in the Godawari (21). After the promulgation of these orders distribution of cattle was stopped, and no more cows were distributed to the people of the surrounding forests (22). After crossing the Godawari, Banda saw his goats drenched in blood (26). He sent five of his birs, i.e., musclemen or supernatural beings. Everyone of them vied with others to kill the Guru (27). They tried to hurt, or to hurl devils at the Guru. But the Guru was ever sheltered by the Deathless Being (2
  10. It would be easier for you to learn punjabi and read the steeks than wait for a correct english translation to be released. All english translations are limited and allot of them skew the meanings, I dont know why english "steeks" have one line interpretations, whereas the punjabi steeks can ellaborate on one line for paragraphs. Learning punjabi is easy and beneficial. you will build up a great vocabulary by reading and learning through a proper steek, the main issue is being able to read the punjabi word but not understanding complex steeks. Although the Gobind Sadan Steek is seen as incorrect by some people, it does however provide easy language and simple punjabi for begginers to start reading Sri Dasam Darbar in. The Pritpal Bhindra english translation of Chritropakhyan is not that heritical, he clearly states he does not belief it to be the bani of Guru Gobind Singh and wishes to produce a book which will allow the reader to make up their own mind. Those with a disearning intellect will be able to look past the contraversy and extract the essence of the teachings.
  11. Yes its in gurmukhi / punjabi. I dont have a scanner sorry.
  12. One of the best steeks to read is the one by Pandit Narotam, comes in 7 volumes and includes Chritropakhyan. Costs about 30 quid for the lot, I ordered mine from Singh Brothers and it came in 2 days.
  13. Nothing compares to Punjab, however as mentioned above Singapore is a very nice place to go, the place is surgically clean, you will be hard pushed to even find a peice of paper on the floor its that well kept, theres some great places to viist there, Hong Kong is a great place is you like the hustle and bustle, the people there are probably the most friendly you will ever come accross, unlike Singapore you will be able to move away from the city and visit the more remote parts which contain fantastic budist temples, and there is a place which has the largest buddha statue in the world ontop of a mountain - a fantastic site. Thailand is nice, however the language barrier is a pain as hardly anyone there speaks english, really good places to visit as its a tourist place, but the main thing to check b4 you book is the location, if you go to south phuket, its very remote and nothing is there apart from a gypsie village lol, if you just want peace and quiet you will find some good places to stay there, main phuket town is ok but i didnt really like it - its too touristy and everyone is trying to sell you something.
  14. When I met Baba Ji in India in March, they mentioned that they are making plans to come to UK later on this year.
  15. Playing the victim card isnt going to help anyone, yes first the problem must be accepted however what is the solution? Proactiveness in the face of diversity is the way to resolve these issues. If each individual stood up for their own right then such incidents would be less common. How many times do you hear on these boards "Sikh attacked by...", is this what Guru Gobind Singh would like to hear? There are Singhs whos names still thunder in places like Pakistan and Afghanistan even after 150 years, old muslim women who tell their young children when they misbehave "dont do that, otherwise Hari Singh Nalwa will come get you". Fix up yourselves and stop acting like victims, become tyar bar tyar and so you dont have to rely on others to help you out. The Guru is our protecter, however he only protects you when you come under his shade and follow his hukam of being Shastardhari, and an abhihasi of yudh. Until Singhs stop eating pizza and chips at Gurdwara Langars and getting fatter by the day and neglect training and physical excercise, the beatings will keep coming and the image of modern day Singhs being wimps will still be in the minds of potential oppressors.
  16. The Hari Singh Nalwa book is written by Vanit Nalwa, a decendant of Hari Singh Nalwa. I got my copy 2 weeks ago and it is great read with allot of information in there, a definite purchase for anyone interested in Sikh History. You can purchase the book from http://www.harisinghnalwa.com/shoponline.html and you can have a quick look at the content page by clicking on the cover
  17. Main thing is to have robh, if you dont have that you will be vunerable to being the victim. If you carry yourself with the pride most people will think twice about saying anything to you. It is a dog mentality, they feel that if they are in packs they can say wat they want and when you dont do nothing they can just laugh and affirm their view that Singhs aint <banned word filter activated>. I came accross a bunch of 7, 22+ muslims, who called me a b*astard the other week as i drove past in my car, as i approached the lights they stepped into the road purposely and walked past giving dirty looks, i turned my car off in the middle of the road and stopped all the traffic behind me, got out and then called out to all of them, gave them a few gaala to see if anyone had the guts to come forward, they all bricked it and started saying "i didnt say nothing bro" and huridly walked away. I normally keep myself to myself, but people like that need to know that someone will say something back and if needed will fight back. There is never the need to be scared of anyone, the Khalsas principle is to stand against oppression and victimisation. Everyone should get off their backsides and train daily, do mehntha and bal like the old singhs, learn to fight for real combat and build up your confidence to stand alone and fight alone, cos when the <banned word filter activated> hits the fan you find out who has got your back. Old Singhs had their names glorified for a reason, because they didnt take crap from no one, if you messed with them they took your head, now I aint saying that lets get violent, im saying that if someone says something, stand for your right and uphold the name of the Khalsa, if Singhs are the Gurus Fauj how can we sit back down and look like cowards. Call out to anyone who talks against the traditions and image of the Khalsa and you will soon find out how hard these dogs are. In the words of Baba Raam Singh Nihang who was a accomplished student of Shastarvidiya under Baba Gyana Singh "When you have a group of people, you will have one or two who want chaudhar and be the mukhi, the rest of them are just tagging along to watch the tamasha, one of them will step forward and attempt to hit you, take this one out, break his nose and knock him to the ground, the rest will be in shock and will not want to fight further". Now I know peoples views on Shastarvidiya and Niddar Singh on this forum, but if poeple wanna know how to defend themselves then turn up to the akhara and train hard, forget everything else, his sikhi views, ideologies and just take what will help you in times of need. If not, then attend some serious martial arts school who prime you for real conflict and real fighting, when your confidence is there you will never think of stepping down to some <banned word filter activated> who thinks he can talk against the Guru and his Singhs. Its high time Singhs brought back their image of hardcore soldiers, if people dont want to do that, your the only ones to blame when things will eventually get out of hand.
  18. I beleve its someone with the same or similar name.
  19. From what I know, Niddar Singh has met the Baba Gyana Singh allegedly teaching Jang Vidiya, but he admitted to not having knowledge of the higher penthras, basic stuff and vaars etc only. Baba Gyana Singh "Rabb Ji" taught allot of people near the times of the partition to help them defend themselves against mobs of attackers, however it was quick skills in order for he Sikhs to make do as best as they could duing the troubled time. People must appreciate that the lower level skills and the highest levels are worlds apart. Does anyone know how long Baba Gyana Singh learnt under "Rabb Ji"?
  20. There are some fantastic kali schools, however there are some really crap ones. I popped along to one once and the instructors skills were mediocre, he was struggling even when he trying to teach their triangle footwork, when he tried to get me to sign up for a direct debit I left sharpish! I "sparred" with one of the other instructors and he was walking into simple attacks, you can tell when someone is taught in 1-2-3 sequence, when you break away from that you will see their brains freezing and feet becoming concrete. Again it depends on the school and the teacher. Shastarvidiya is different in the sense we dont aim to trap and manipulate the weapon like Kali guys do, I am a bit dubious about how effective that is because the weapon and hand is always adjusted by a skilled swordsman. If you read Charitrar 404, when Mahakaal enters the battlefield and is attacked by the Raakash, you will see the refference to him being like water against their strikes.
  21. My advice to anyone lookin to buy shastar is stay away from the cheap stuff, save your money up and only buy high quality weapons. Put aside as much as you can every month and keep saving the cash, when you come accross a very good peice buy it. Id rather have 3-4 really good peices than a room full of tat. High quality Shastar will always increase in price and are always a good investment, low quality stuff will not sell again and you wont get as much money as you paid for em if you intend to sell in the future.
