  1. This is the dude from Nanaksar Tath in Wolverhampton isn't it, oh my, the stories i could tell, suffice to say, he's less than white.
  2. Excellent, print spiritual quotes and assume that solves all the problems in the world, good work, keep it up.
  3. Completely disagree, I've said it before on these forums but there seems to be a distinct "I'm better than you because I've taken Amrit" attitude going around at the moment, it's a very arrogant and egotistical stance to take, comments like these are what pushes those who want to learn more away from Sikhism, if your going to have some exclusive club where only those who are Gurmukhs are invited then you've completely, totally and utterly failed at being a Sikh, simple as, Sikhism is for everyone not just for some self-important people who think they are better than others.
  4. I may have been living under a rock or something but I've only ever met 2 people that converted from Sikhism to Islam (both girls, usual story, fell in love etc) so maybe come to the table with some facts and figures, maybe some links showing that this is actively happening, every time i take a walk in the City centre the local Islam conversion club tend not to want to hand me a leaflet or have a life changing discussion with me, maybe because i'm confident in my own religion and beliefs, anyway, i'm going back under my rock.
  5. The Panthers mainly went to Holte school in Aston, i know because i grew up in the midst of it, the SP only helped when they wanted, we used to ask Desi (big dude, pagh and beard) for help all the time, the dude would just laugh at us, in the end we had to sort out our own "issues", contrary to what you said, their were a fair few "Singhs" with them, those could be seen drinking and living it up as well. As difficult as it is to believe, they used to harass girls all the time, i know because my elder sister was on of them, like i've already said, rose tinted glasses and all.
  6. Having grown up in the 80's around the SP I commend what they were trying to do but they were just as bad as the other gangs, they would, to the public, be saving peoples daughters from the hands of Pakistani's but then they would be harassing the same girls they saved, you could find most of them at a private club opposite Soho Road Gurdwara on a Friday and Saturday night drunk off their face's, looking back at stuff with rose tinted glasses is great and all that but when you grow up in the middle of a turf war (I went to Broadway School when all of this was going on) and walking home was always great fun for me and my Sikh friends, we had bugger all help from the SP when we would get harassed and threatened because of their actions so if i look upon them with a little less enthusiasm then please forgive me.
  7. This happened in the UK a while ago, i don't think i have come across a single case where a gay couple have wanted to marry(have the Anand Karaj ceremony) in a Gurdwara, when it happened the media did what they usually do and sprinkle loads of masala on what is a sensitive subject in religious circles, it would be interesting to see what happen if a couple did decide to go down that route (let's face it, it's inevitable) and how the legal system in said country would handle it of the religious organisation had an objection. I have a simple rule, live and let live but if the religion you practise has beliefs that go against your lifestyle then you'd be ill advised to want to have a religious marriage ceremony just for the sake of proving a point.
  8. I know someone who said keeping fish means there is less fighting in the house, they have some lovely tropical fish, every time i walk past his house all i hear is arguing, see that worked then.
  9. It has no links with Islam outside of they may use is an alternative medicine, cupping therapy goes way back before Islam so i really don't understand what relevance it has to your question, whether or not a Sikh can use it is up to you, i've never heard of anything in Sikhism saying it's wrong.
  10. If your talking about the one in Isleworth then i think they are planning to open year 7 (secondary) in 2017.
  11. Yup, family get together's must be a hoot for them i tell you, it's like chalk and cheese.
  12. Ha, i actually know Sunny, he's a decent bloke, if you enjoy a good debate you should see him and his brother (Jagraj Singh, Basic's of Sikhi) go at it. As far as Katy Sian, never heard of her but it's always nice to see someone taking the easy option and making a stance about Palestine, i might look up her book now just to see how opinionated she is.
  13. Innocent or guilty, that's up to the legal system to decide and your right, groups like these bring in some serious golak money and unfortunately that's all out Gurdwara's have become (with a few exception no doubt). We seem do have a huge problem in our religion where we think that's it's okay for people to get away with stuff just because they preach Sikhi, that we may offend god if we call out these people, yeah, no, if you do wrong, no matter how pious you are, you need to face the consequences. As far as carrying on with parchar, that's a difficult thing to do, and your right, it would take a great deal extra effort and strength to do that, maybe he doesn't have that in him, maybe he want's to clear his name first or maybe he know's he did something wrong and his moral compass has finally kicked in, who knows. One thing i have learnt over the years is this, we humans are all fallible so by definition even the most pious person is corruptible so it pays heed not to blindly follow, the only truth is found in Gurbani not out of the mouths of preachers.
  14. Ahh yes, the jury of the white beards and chunni's as i call them, they are the pinnacle of the justice system in our community system don't you know....
  15. If it hasn't been shut down yet it will be now after that post.....
  16. I've seen it and i didn't find it dharmic in any way, it was however a decent break from the normal stuff that comes out of the Punjabi movie industry but each to their own really.
  17. Indeed, and they aim their sermons mainly at the youth, the way they do kirtan reminds me of Jathader Sant Baba Mohinder Singh Ji Rara Sahib from back in the 80's.
  18. The films doesn't have anything to do with religion so I'm at a loss as to why you would be offended, as far as i'm aware it's not even being promoted in that way either, whatever you do, don't what Eastenders, they do plenty of "paapi" scenes in that.
  19. Last i heard he was questioned by the police and released on bail but as with all things i would make sure you have a pinch of salt ready (so to speak).
  20. It's nice to see everything our Guru's taught is worth nothing in our gurghar's, growing up i think i may have been lucky as the Gurdwara i went to didn't have to much in the way of internal conflict and politics but lately i've been moving around the country and have been to different gurghar's and have seen a lot of it, kind of disappointing to be honest.
  21. So, if I've done my maths correctly (which i probably haven't) 1 crore = roughly £115,000 give or take a few thousand with the exchange rate so according to that report their budget is 905 crore which is roughly over £100 million sterling, if that's correct then holy moly these boys are rolling in it, my dad wasn't wrong when he said that the SGPC have enough money to bail out half the third world from debt (but that's assuming my calculation is correct).
  22. The corruption isn't spreading, it's always been there but we choose to focus on the problem's of other communities instead. By definition, as human's we are all flawed, what you pray to or who you bow down to has nothing to do with t.
  23. This and the fact that when it come's down to it, we can't all sit in the same Gurdwara together, how on earth do they think we're going to all boycott an airline together. I can understand why they would think it's a good idea but let's be honest here, if the tickets cheap then people are going to use them, i think very few people are going to but a more expensive ticket just to prove a point, it's a shame really because SFJ look like they are run by a group of intelligent and educated individuals but campaigns like these really don't achieve a lot, i think they should take a leaf out of organisations like Ensaaf's book and do more ground level stuff and help individuals.
  24. Honestly, I'd rather just have an MP who actually does his job, asking for the moon on a stick (Sikh Manifesto) is great and everything but how does that help the normal person, and average Sikh will go to work, make a wage, support his/her family, practise his/her religion and the few other things we get time to do, so with that in mind i'd rather have an MP who represents the community i live in, if that MP is able to lobby on a national scale then great. I think the youth need to stop looking at the "Committees" and the "White beard club" for support and actually go to the communities they live in and speak to them, whatever their religion, and your right, a Sikh MP doesn't necessarily mean they represent Sikhs and their interests but i think for some reason the moment we see someone with a turban in a position of power we automatically think they are on our side.
