  1. An animator did the "motions" for the Chaar Sahibzaadhe in the film of the same name, surely we hold them up in high enough esteem to make sure no one represents them on the big screen, whether animated or live action. I tell you what, if, as a group of people we're not careful, with this kind of attitude us Sikh's are going to get thrown into the same pile as Muslims with all of the threats they continuously make every time someone even mentions something about Islam. There are different ways and methods to get things done, "dropping hints of violence" isn't one of them, has anyone even thought about going through the right channels and contacting the producers or even the distributors of the film, start a petition on change.org if you haven't already, if you word it correctly then i'm sure everyone who share's the same concerns will sign it and then pass it over to the relevant parties, unfortunately we still have a caveman mentality when it come's to dealing with stuff like this. And as for everything else, none of us, including those so called leader's of Sikhism who stand on their stage's thinking they know better than everyone else have ever been blessed with knowing what any of the Guru's looked like so we're really not in a place to say what's right or wrong, every Sikh has their own interpretation of what they think they looked like, I have my own interpretation based on historical books and the writing's of academics like Kushwant Singh
  2. We can't, just have a walk around the Punjab, you'll find someone pretending to be a Baba or a Guru's re-incarnation in pretty much every corner you look, it's easy to scapegoat a film for this kind of thing but the reality is it's been going on for years and years, while i agree that it's inappropriate to depict any of the Guru's i also thought the Chaar Saahibaadhe movie was full of inaccuracies and really wasn't worthy of all the praise it got (my personal opinion of course) but i let them slide because that film did more good for the younger generation where it got them to ask question's about their faith and learn more, just because it was animated didn't make it right. If you look into the history of this film you'l find that it was filmed and finished in the middle of 2014, it has been shown at plenty of events and the message people have taken away is a positive one but then, as always, one man's art is another man's blasphemy.
  3. He was also responsible for inciting racial hatred against us "ragheads" in the late 80's and early 90's, i still remember those walks home from college, they usually turned into a not so pleasant jog whilst being followed by member's of the BNP. As far as UKIP go, i've already made my feeling's clear a few pages back and i wouldn't touch Labout or the Conservatives with a bargepole, the Lib Dems are like the aunties and the back of the langar hall, you know the ones, always talking about the good old day's but couldn't make a roti between them. The unfortunate truth is we will probably be looking at another coalition government, after watching the debate a few days back the only one who stood out to me was Nicola Sturgeon so i may move up to Scotland.
  4. For those of you voting UKIP, bear in mind they are supported by the likes of this clown. If you don't know who he is, it's Nick Griffin, ask you dad's about him if your a little wet behind the ear, i grew up in fear of what this guy and his party, the BNP, stood for and now he's supporting Farage who is pretty much just a slightly politicly correct version of Griffin.
  5. All this demonstrates to me is what we've all become a human beings, we'll stand around as onlookers and won't even intervene, it's not about who's attacking who, it's not about someone's religion, it's about the fact that we, as a human race have sunk to a new low, all we care about is ourselves, our Guru's gave their live's standing up for the right's of other's yet we can't even intervene when someone's in trouble.
  6. I think the reasoning is that we would start bowing down to photo's, i was taught by my granddad that it's fine keeping photo's as a reminder but that's all they are, I'm glad to hear your local Gurudwara hasn't got any photo's, our local one's still have pictures on the walls. Because he was revered by Muslim's and Hindu's and as he travelled in mainly Islamic countries those muslim's that respected him called him a Fakir, to them it was the highest form of respect they could bestow upon Guru Nanak Dev ji as the term is usually reserved for Muslims only, this was the first time they called a non-muslim a Fakir.
  7. While the name thing is completely off topic, the one thing i've noticed is that it seems more prevalent in Punjabi's who have come to the UK from India in the last 5-10 years either for work or through marriage, they give their children western name's with the hope that they will fit into British society, while i'm not saying all are like that, i'm just speaking from my experiences, it's a shame really, out mother tongue, our maa boli is a beautiful thing yet those who grew up around it seem embarrassed by it.
  8. My point is I don't think giving this clown a good Punjabi or Sikh name would have changed what he did, giving him a good Sikh upbringing doesn't necessarily mean he will do no wrong but i will agree that the influx of westernised names is our community is plain embarrassing, i know a Punjabi boy called Ryan, his dad said he named him that because he thought he would be accepted more in British society, say's it all really.
  9. You do realise you loose about twenty brain cell's every time you listen to Nihal's show, it's the radio version of the Daily Mail, good god, i used to listen to it but i stopped a year or two ago just for the fact that they have about 10 topics that they just recycle, they very rarely talk about anything of value and when they do, they'll get some clown on to discuss it..
  10. Sorry, completely disagree, i know plenty of families who have bought up "good Sikh kids" and their kids go off the rails or get up to no good, to say that any parent with no time for Sikhi is responsible for this kind of behaviour in a child is ridiculous, who's responsible when you bring up your child within Sikhi and your kid goes off on one, giving your kid a good Sikh name doesn't mean jack, what matters is that you teach your kid right from wrong, that has nothing to do with any religion, it's just something you do as a parent.
  11. It's a pretty controversial topic and to some extent a personal one as well, pretty much all of us probably grew up with paintings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji or Guru Gobind Singh Ji by Sobha Singh on our walls, every time we take about the Guru's we associate those images with them. I personally don't have an issue with it, I'm grown up enough and I've educated my young children enough so that we know that that's just someone's interpretation of what they feel the Guru's looked like, I think we need to focus on the message not the format of delivery, the Chaar Sahibzaade movie, while not the best animated film around did enough to spark a new generations interest in their religion and made them ask questions.
  12. Absolutely ridiculous, this film has been doing the rounds at Independent film festival for nearly a year and no one raised any concerns, it went to Cannes and received positive reviews, now it's getting a major worldwide release the SGPC have a problem with it, maybe they should get their house in order before dictating what's right or wrong, I was always taught that Guru Nanak Dev Ji didn't belong to anyone, he came to spread a message to all of humanity not just what we now refer to as Sikh's, also, i do wonder if ant members of the SGPC have sat down and watched the film in it;s entirety instead of basing an opinion on a trailer.
  13. What on earth has his name got to do with anything, do you think giving him a good traditional punjabi name would change anything, i think the saying we're all looking for here is "amir maa peo di bigdi aulad", i know of one or two cases in the Punjabi community where the parents were well off and the kids went off on one, one involved the father buying his son a Ferrari on the day he passed his driving test, the kid ran over a young mother on his first outing in the car, this guy going to jail ain't gonna fix him, he still stands to inherit £130 million, maybe if his daddy ji did the right thing and gave a few million out of his own pocket towards caring for that poor girl who's life was ruined at the hands of his son it may help, the guys a multi-millionaire yet the tax payers are paying the compensation or maybe he should work in one of his dad's factories making biscuits on minimum wage for a while.
  14. So if the guy wasn't a Muslim it wouldn't be abuse, jesus wept, the guys either Hindu or Sikh, you can clearly hear his name mentioned as Sanjay, either way, even if she did cheat all he's done is uploaded evidence onto a public platform and he can clearly be heard making threats against the girl, if someone saw that video and decided to report him his girlfriend cheating on him would be the least of his worries. I remember a time when people dealt with their problem's in private, kid's today film everything that goes on and then complain when they can't get job's after Uni because prospective employers have seen all of the nonsense they got up to on Youtube, stop putting your private live's on the internet, if i want to to see drama i'll turn on Star Plus son.
  15. This, here, is what i live by, people tend to forget that those you have elevated and look up to are human to and are fallible.
  16. I take it we're talking about that young girl who has Polycystic ovary syndrome and has a beard as a result, i just had a quick look at her social media feeds (Facebook/Instagram),reading through her Instagram it's pretty obvious that she isn't religious, she seem's to have made an image for herself in the early day's which showed her with a dastaar and she's stuck with it, it's more of a fashion statement than anything else, it's a shame really but we only have ourselves to blame, our community didn't want to understand her condition and she looked elsewhere but, yeah, she should really remove her dastaar if she's not willing to respect it but then i see plenty of guys out on a weekend with a full beard and a dastaar with a beer in there hand, is there really any difference.
  17. I do understand, i think you may need to look up the dictionary definition of incest, just in case, i'll copy and paste it below: 1. sexual intercourse between closely related persons. 2. the crime of sexual intercourse, cohabitation, or marriage between persons within the degrees of consanguinity or affinity wherein marriage is legally forbidden. Not marrying into the same gotra, or to coin a non Hindu word, surname, is just common sense, caste doesn't come into it. I'll say it again, caste has nothing to do with incest.
  18. Without wanting to sound like a numpty, would it be possible to cite reference to where Sikhism states you are committing "INCEST" if you cut you hair, that's a pretty big leap considering your comparing cutting you hair to sleeping with your sister, also, any reference you can cite for the following statement would be good as well " Other terms which Satguru jee has used for MONAY are INFIDEL, DOG AND DEVIL". To be honest, it's attitudes like this that drive people away from what is, in essence, a beautiful religion, i know "MONAY" who are more Sikh than baptised Sikh's fella.
  19. To be fair, he was racist towards pretty much anyone who wasn't a Hindu not just Sikhs, when he lived in South Africa he had a thing against blacks, there's a book called Gandhi:Behind the Mask, well worth a read if you want an alternate viewpoint on Gandhi that isn't as tasteful as his public image.
  20. No fella, i don't want to be spoon fed, i'm way to old for that, and as far as my attitude is concerned, it's one of being open and willing to learn, not one of having a closed mind to anything i may disagree with.
  21. No, uneducated in terms of thinking that homosexuality is linked to paedophilia and thinking it is a western thing, homosexuality goes as far back as the history books, as far as i'm aware, Sikhism has no specific teachings about homosexuality, if it does I would love to know, nobody, certainly not me, is making any links between Sikhi and homosexuality.
  22. Absolutely disgusting attitude there, sorry but it's comments like these that make me embarrassed to be a Sikh let alone a human being, so much for Sikhism being a tolerant religion and accepting all, why don't you go the whole hog and just say we should behead anyone who is gay, there's a certain group in the middle east that's doing that at the moment, you might have heard of them, also to compare homosexuality with paedophilia is something i'd expect from some uneducated religious nut job, oh man, sometimes i feel sorry for the future generations.
  23. Not really lack of knowledge, lack of courage, he associated being gay with the fact that he has to cut his hair, he felt that he wouldn't be accepted as gay if he had a turban, maybe he should have tried to talk to his family about his sexuality before telling them he was going to cut his hair, the only other thing i don't get is why the whole "let's make a video about how we told everyone we're gay" thing, you don't see a load of video's of people telling everyone their straight, anyway, each to their own.
  24. I grew up going to this Gurdwara from when it opened in the late 70's and the unfortunate truth is people will have good day's and bad day's and it would appear that a Gurdwara is no different, I would say that don't let one bad egg taint your view. Claiming that everyone who works at a Gurdwara is rude and arrogant is a pretty large accusation, i've been to plenty of Gurdwara around the world and have met good and bad people there, i've never let it taint my view, i'm not biased in anyway, GNNSJ has it's faults like all other Gurdwara's but faults can only be rectified when you do something positive about them, if you have an issue, report it.
