  1. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! 1. Soy doesn't contain estrogen. It does have an estrogen-like molecule. 2. Its still better than milk (at least in the western world) which has such high levels of estrogen that girls enter puberty as early as ages 7-9 (previously it used to be 13-16). 2. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Awesome post Singh Soorma, but its completely unrelated to the question. What is the scientific purpose of Amrit? The main key of Amrit is basically water stirred while doing bani. There is some metaphysical stuff going on that I really don't understand, but it goes something like this: Doing bani, while concentrating, allows one to emanate waves. Like anyone in science will tell you, metals, such as iron, act as really good transmitters of waves. The water absorbs these waves. In a way, think of a magnet. The magnet releases magnetic fields (waves) that cause other metals nearby to change their subatomic structure to line up to a wave. That is why a magnet attracts metal. The same thing happens with amrit: the waves are transmitted via the metal (sarbloh in this case) into the water, which you drink and is absorbed into your body. Now your natural meditation is weakish, but when your own water molecules come in contact with the amrit, they can too take on a similar structure, and it kinda passes along. This is my understanding anyways. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  3. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! lol >> medical attention. But actually, there are a couple of lines written by Guru Gobind Singh in Sri guru granth sahib. ...and "Bani Guru Guru Hai Bani" which means that its the words inside Sri Guru Granth sahib that is our Guru. Above that, you only have Satguru (God). Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  4. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! I think it boils down to doing something for the right reasons. Killing people is wrong (generally), but if you do it to protect yourself, then it is OK. (eg: during the wars of our Gurus time). The difference is, when our Gurus killed, it was out of compassion. I've heard that Guru Gobind Singh used to dip his arrows in Gold, so that when it killed an enemy, the family could use the gold from the arrow to pay for a proper burial/funeral. So yes, killing another creature is hard to do, but just as our Gurus hunted, they used compassion to guide when the time is right. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!

  6. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! If you are using firefox (why wouldn't you?) download the "Videodownloader" extension. http://javimoya.com/blog/youtube_en.php If you visit any page with a video, including YouTube or Google Video, just click the little Videodownloader icon, and it will bring up a page letting you download the video to your computer. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Mandatory? no. But don't avoid marriage because you think it might hurt your sikhi. Most of our Gurus got married and showed that you can balance sikhi and a family life together. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  8. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! You can see it as a punishment, or as a challenge. I'd recommend the latter, and get some therapy for it. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  9. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Actions speak louder than words. Our gurus would never do anything that they would not want us to do. They led by example. And the point of sikhi is to reach their level: that is the ultimate goal that may take a thousand lifetimes. If you don't think that you should be like them, then you aren't a good student (Sikh) right? Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  10. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! I suppose I am sorry for my little cow in pot comment, but I hope you understand where I am coming from. Rehat is good: so long as it follows gurbani and serves a purpose. Kesh serves a purpose, so does not eating meat. But as soon as you start to define rehat based on who touched what, it becomes a simple ritual. Bibek itself, sticking with "pure" ingredients is fine. I can understand how that is important. But if your mom isn't amritdhari touches it, it doesn't defile the food. Believing that is PURE brahminism. Our gurus accepted food offerings from others: kings, poor farmers, none of whom were amritdhari nor many who were not even declared servants of Gurujee. So do not say that past karams come to play when I reject this rehat. I reject it because it is WRONG. Last time I checked, when our Gurus found others doing something wrong, they spoke out and did the opposite (eg: Guru Nanak watering his fields, remember this Sakhi?) to show the folly of rituals. 11. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! You can only have milk from a cow born in an iron pot. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  12. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! 1. Please donate organs!! I think its actually somewhat selfish to NOT donate them because once we are dead, we have no use for them (Gurbani says the body doesn't go with us). Instead of burning it all away, give what you can... 2. Ear hair? Luck? Sikhi doesn't believe in "luck". I'm sure body hair has little to do with improving your life... Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! 13. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Whoa, for a second I thought this was some kind of *cough* hindu thread. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  14. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Proof is a scientific concept: you can't prove anything, you can only make theories and see if the evidence disproves it or not. The idea of God is based on a belief that everything in our universe, and our universe itself contains a fundamental property that unites everything. In science, this is appearing to be energy, in Sikhi it is called "paramathma" or the primary-being. But that means that God isn't some guy sitting in a cloud somewhere. Gurbani says that God is in everything: me, you, a rock, your shoe, everything. And so understanding of God requires a higher level of mental ability to get onto that same wavelength (energy) as "God". From that point the existence of God will be made clear. 15. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! I don't use starch in my pag, but I had the exact same problem. My ears would be constantly getting chaffed (which was weird because I don't tie it tight or anything). After a while, i began to tie a patka underneath my pag (but instead of tying the back part around my joora, I tucked it into the back of my patka). For some weird unexplainable reason, I have never had chaffed ears since. Try it, and see if it works for you. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  16. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! They boil the milk to kill micro-organisms in the milk. All milk in the west is pasteurized, which means that the microbes are prekilled. Any chemical preservatives, etc, that are added are not affected by boiling. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  17. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Richest punjabi? Maybe. Sikh? I think not. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  18. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that STTM does work with the Microsoft Powerpoint VIEWER. That is a free download from the microsoft web site. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/info.as...isplayLang%3den Try it out and post back to see if it does! Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Forgiveness?

Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Gurmukhs forgive others. There are very few out there :D Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  20. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! I looked at the (english translation of) the hukamnama. What it says is that Sri Guru Granth Sahib cannot be whereever meat, alcohol, etc. is served, or any anti-panthic activities like dancing, bhangra, etc. are done. Am I correct? (My punjabi is not good, so please clarify!) Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  21. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! A primer on CDs: CDs have all audio tracks stored in a very general WAV format. These files are usually very large, and are about 8.75 MB per minute of audio. That way you can fit about 80 minutes of audio onto one 700 MB CD. But that means if you do copy direct, one CD will be using up nearly a Gigabyte of storage space on your harddrive! MP3 and WMA are formats that COMPRESS the 700 MB CD into about 80 MB (depending on the compression), so that it is about 1 MB/minute. To do that, you NEED a ripper program. Itunes, Windows Media player, are among thousands of free rippers out there. If you had an MP3 CD (which is just a Data CD with MP3 files), then you could just drag-and-drop to copy the files. But not with an audio CD! Hope this helps... Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  22. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! I think instead of trying to talk to the Gurdwara commitees, which usually do not support this kind of thing in Edmonton, talk straight to the Giani. Tell him your concerns and the rehat maryada from akal thakt. Since stuff like this rarely if ever happens here in Edmonton, it could be simple ignorance. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! 23. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Tofu, and tons of soya-meat alternatives (veggie grounds, falafels, and the soya veggie burgers, veggie hot dogs, ...) I once went and bought a Soy-steak... it was pretty crazy. it tasted awesome, except that it was 90% protein and very low in fat. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  24. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Go see a doctor. There are steroid creams which are effective in some cases. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  25. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! hmm... let me give it a try: 1. Computers 2. Forums 3. The Sims (got over that one, thankfully) 4. Diet Coke!! (actually, Diet Pepsi is better) 5. MSN (Got over that I think... avoiding people is a good way to get over this one) Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
