  1. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Is it ok to steal a computer to make a sikh website? Is it OK to swipe a lawnmover from a hardware store to mow a gurdwara lawn? I'll let you figure those out. The answers are the same to the question you are asking. "Truth is high... higher still is truthful living" Do you remember the story of Guru Nanak: Malik Bhago’s roti was drenched with blood and Bhai Lalo’s with milk. They both offered him a meal, trying to do a good deed for a Guru. But it doesn't matter that the rich man had the better meal: he obtained it unjustly. The end does not justify the means. 2. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! If its downloaded without the consent of its legal owner, then yes it is. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  3. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! If you don't pay for something you should pay for... that's called 'stealing' Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  4. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Doesn't anybody think stealing (pirating) and sikhi don't quite go hand in hand? Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  5. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Try the free stuff first. GIMP Inkscape Paint.NET Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  6. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! I would say its more of a matter of common sense than hukum. Simply put, marry someone on the same path as yourself. If you took amrit, usually that means something: that you have agreed and sworn yourself unconditionally to the path prescribed by Guru Gobind Singh. If your partner hasn't, why? Do they not follow that same path? If they do, then taking amrit shouldn't be a problem. If they don't follow it... that's just a sign of possible disagreements in the future. 7. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! There are ALWAYS exceptions to everything. If you do stuff just because its always been done, you are no better than the hindus whos rituals our Gurus chided. For our Guru, fundamental access is paramount. That means that if someone is disabled, we should do whatever we can to help them reach their Guru. If that means wheelchairs in the back of the darbaar hall, so be it. To say that you should throw them off the chair and make them crawl while we all walk reinforces how much better we are compared to them, and that is wrong wrong wrong. We cover our heads because we all have heads to cover. For those without functional legs, its stupid and it shows your heartlessness to expect them to drag their bodies into darbaar hall. 8. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Maybe because sikhs have threatened and tried to kill him? Irregardless of how good or bad a person is, its the police's responsibility to protect someone who is threatened. If it isn't obvious, resorting to violence only hurts our cause. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  9. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Yup, I've noticed the same thing. Don't forget people there is a huge difference between slang and gibberish. Often if I read a post that is all gibberish, it is garbage to me and I close it and move on. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  10. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Take your time, its rare that everything works "perfect" in the first shot. For ubuntu, the BEST forums are http://ubuntuforums.org I've asked questions, and played and got everything to work perfectly... and when it does its much faster and easier than windows. 11. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Give it time bhenji... and best of luck  Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  12. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! From the article, this sounds like a positive thing. Keshdharis in "traditional punjabi dresses" grilled on their knowledge of sikh history and judged on their abilities. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  13. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Bhenji, that answer isn't here. Its with him. there is no short way around it... every person has their own individual beliefs and ideals. Ask him. Its the only way to know, and the only way you can both move forward. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  14. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! We don't eat meat for pleasure. Its natural that dogs eat meat, they are carnivores, its the way God made them. Thus its ok  Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  15. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Now, I'm just curious. At the risk of making a lot of people sound like hypocrites, how did all of you obtain your Guru Granth Sahib? I'm assuming you must have all hand written it yourself from memory, so kudos to you all  Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  16. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! On a completely unrelated yet related note, drinking too much water causes "water intoxication"... it actually simulates being drunk from alcohol. *sigh* another thing to avoid... Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  17. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! The dealy with the lights? That's like artee pooja. That's totally against sikhi. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  18. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Somtimes, separation is benificial for both groups... all of you by being separate might have time to think about things, and realize what importance (or lack thereof) the others play in everyone's lives. Sometimes, that really helps to bring people together. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  19. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Irrespective of how good or bad of an airline it was, the point is that the perception is there that sikhs took innocent lives, and in this day and age of constant fear of terrorism, it only makes us look bad. All those accusations are based on declassified CSIS and RCMP documents: so they likely have some factual basis. Its no surprise that some of those groups have been labeled as terrorist organizations and banned in Canada. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  20. A Sehaj Paath's Arambh (start) and Bhog (completion) should be done from a Sampooran Saroop of Sri Guru Granth Sahib jee as a Hukamnama can only be taken from a Sampooran Saroop of Sri Guru Granth Sahib jee (which cannot be done from the computer or a Pothi Sahib). After doing Arambh of Sehaj Paath from Sri Guru Granth Sahib jee, if due to personal circumstances if one continues the Sehaj Paath from Pothi Sahibs (small volumes) or from the computer/laptop, then according to elder Gursikhs there is no objection. However, the Bhog (completion) of the Sehaj Paath should be done in presence of Prakaash Saroop of Sri Guru Granth Sahib jee, followed by recitation of 6 Paurian of Anand Sahib, Ardaas and Hukamnama. Then Karhah Parshad is distributed. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! So where in that quote from rehat maryada does it say the beginning and end parts must be done from a physical saroop? Its Bani Guru, Guru hai Bani... not paper guru, nor ink guru, nor glue backing guru. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  21. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! I would be the odd one out to disagree: The "anand" of patt doesn't come from the paper or the ink... its the words that should enlighten you. As they were saying above, its not good if you have shoes on, sit on a chair, etc. Fine. If you have a laptop, you can sit down, cross legged, wash your hands, and read it that way as well, giving gurbani the same level of respect you would give if you did it from the physical sarroop. Its shabad Guru, doesn't matter if its in real ink or electronic ink. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  22. Your right man ...But you cant hear thes people say stuff bout other caste ..When it come to caste i will not stop Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! jaanahu joth n pooshhahu jaathee aagai jaath n hae ||1|| rehaao || Recognize the Lord's Light within all, and do not consider social class or status; there are no classes or castes in the world hereafter. ||1||Pause|| varanaa varan n bhaavanee khehi khehi jalan baa(n)s a(n)gayaaraa|| Different sections(castes) of society develop hatred for one another and finish themselves through squabbles as the bamboos, due to their mutual friction, producing fire burn themselves as well as others. guramukh varan avaran hoe ra(n)g sura(n)g tha(n)bol parachai|| Gurmukhs go beyond the castes, colours and go about in equanimity like the red colour of betel leaf. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! umm.. head and shoulders? Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  24. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Well saying that the answer should be from gurmat: then what does "family honor" have to do with anything? That's a cultural thing strictly for "punjabis". As a gursikh, some might consider dating to be wrong, but that is THEIR choice to decide their own path, not yours, nor your family. We forget that no one is born a sikh, you must actively seek sikhi. If they are not interested, then we have no right to force our views upon them, regardless of if we agree with them or not. Gurbani says that at the end of the day, they will be judged by their own actions, their mistakes will teach them their lessons. If you want to beat them, you are not only committing a criminal act, you are disobeying your own Guru as well. Have you EVER seen ANY instance where a Guru beat someone just because they didn't agree with how to live their life? Doing a violent act like that will just prove that you are NOT a sikh and have NOT been paying any attention to what our Gurus gave up their lives for. Your cuz/sis is over 18. She has as much of a right to decide what to do with her life as you have a right to decide how you want to live yours. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
  25. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh! Actually I would argue that it is MANDATORY for us to donate our organs when we die... gurbani says that we should not remain attached to anything in this world, especially our bodies that have NO purpose after we die. It would be selfish of us to refuse to help another in life and death situations when we don't have to do ANYTHING or pay anything like with our organs. Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa! Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!
