  8. In language, a metaphor (from the Greek: metapherin) is a rhetorical trope defined as a direct comparison between two seemingly unrelated subjects. In a metaphor, a first object is described as being or precisely equal to a second object. Thus, the first object can be economically described because implicit and explicit attributes from the second object are used to enhance the description of the first. This device is exploited in literature and especially in poetry, where with few words, emotions and associations from one context can powerfully be associated with another, different subject. Metaphor is a subset of analogy and is closely related to other rhetorical concepts such as comparison, simile, allegory and parable. In cognitive linguistics, metaphor is often seen as a basic cognitive function, that humans naturally see common traits in subjects which are factually distinct, and such behavior may be required for comprehension and learning. Termed a conceptual metaphor, this trait is exploited in psychotherapy using a therapeutic metaphor where stories unrelated to the patient are used to teach lessons about the patient's situation. Though the word metaphor in linguistic or cognitive areas are analogies, such use falls outside the literary definition of metaphor.
  9. erm atl ji ""Gurus died and their bodies returned to dust just the like the rest of mankind. Jesus is the only resurrected one, who did rise from dead and his body did not see decay."-<banned word filter activated> say that to a Singhs face and we'll see who cryed of pain More, you or your jesus." not that this post writen by rajs isnt the most amount of rubbish i have ever heard, but you called him an <banned word filter activated> for stating the fact that our gurus bodies did turn to dust. they did. rajs is clearly a very confused person, but not for saying this! our guru ji's bodies did turn to dust like the rest of mankind, BUT their souls merged with Vaheguru. "than dhhan hosee shhaar jaanai koe jan || Body and wealth shall return to dust - hardly anyone realizes this." hang on, i was looking through sikhitothemax for a quote to support what i jus said(the one above does), but also found the one below: "bin simaran than shhaar sarapar chaalanaa ||3|| but without the meditative remembrance of the Lord, your body shall surely turn to dust, and you shall have to depart. ||3||" does this mean that only those bodies "without the meditative remmebrance of the lord" will turn to dust?? or all bodies generally will turn to dust?? hmmm..... if it means the latter...then the guru's bodies did turn to dust. sangats views?
  10. penj, alot of people in my college smoke..and some of them used to be close friends of mine.when i took amrit i started to mind the smell of smoke around me and would purposely not go anywhere where i knew people would be smoking. one day i was outside talking to quite a close mate of mine...and she started smoking.i said to her bluntly that i dont like smoking and could she not smoke when i'm there, because it rele gets to me. she didnt mind at all. penji, if this girl rele is a close friend then she'll have no problem not smoking when ur around.u've jus gotta tell her SERIOUSLY that u rele cant stand it.she'll get the message.
  11. hanji, so in essence that means that the word "raam" is actualy a reference to "Vaheguru".hana?
