The Movement of Sikhs from India to Kenya

Recommended Posts

During the British Colonial rule in Kenya, there was a distinct path followed by Asians (Majority Sikhs). Since the British needed skilled labour - Carpenters and Lohars. The Supervisors were given the authority to 'import' the labour. Apparently one would recieve a letter from his relative in Nairobi and he would travel to Mumbai. Here the meeting point was 'Laldei's Hotel' She was appointed by the British to apply or provide passports for onward journey to Kenya via steam ships. If anyone has further info. on the same or even photographs if possible. I would like to document this in our forthcoming commemorative magazine.

If any person is interested in the history of Giri Gurdwara Railway Landies history, please forward me your address. We had published here in Nairobi a commemorative magazine celebrating celebrating a centenary of the Temple. It is full of historical facts about the Temple and some very interesting photographs.
