Can someone please explain this passage to me? I really do not understand it.

Where is That Door of Yours, and where is That Home, in which You sit and take care of all?

The Sound-current of the Naad vibrates there for You, and countless musicians play all sorts of instruments there for You.

There are so many Ragas and musical harmonies to You; so many minstrels sing hymns of You.

Wind, water and fire sing of You. The Righteous Judge of Dharma sings at Your Door.

Chitr and Gupt, the angels of the conscious and the subconscious who keep the record of actions, and the Righteous Judge of Dharma who reads this record, sing of You.

Shiva, Brahma and the Goddess of Beauty, ever adorned by You, sing of You.

Indra, seated on His Throne, sings of You, with the deities at Your Door.

The Siddhas in Samaadhi sing of You; the Saadhus sing of You in contemplation.

The celibates, the fanatics, and the peacefully accepting sing of You; the fearless warriors sing of You.

The Pandits, the religious scholars who recite the Vedas, with the supreme sages of all the ages, sing of You.

The Mohinis, the enchanting heavenly beauties who entice hearts in paradise, in this world, and in the underworld of the subconscious, sing of You.

The celestial jewels created by You, and the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage, sing of You.

The brave and mighty warriors sing of You. The spiritual heroes and the four sources of creation sing of You.

The worlds, solar systems and galaxies, created and arranged by Your Hand, sing of You.

They alone sing of You, who are pleasing to Your Will. Your devotees are imbued with Your Sublime Essence.

So many others sing of You, they do not come to mind. O Nanak, how can I think of them all?

That True Lord is True, forever True, and True is His Name.

He is, and shall always be. He shall not depart, even when this Universe which He has created departs.

He created the world, with its various colors, species of beings, and the variety of Maya.

Having created the creation, He watches over it Himself, by His Greatness.

He does whatever He pleases. No one can issue any order to Him.

He is the King, the King of kings, the Supreme Lord and Master of kings. Nanak remains subject to His Will.

Thanks

What exactly does it mean? I understand that it is a praise of god, but the metaphors are confusing to me. The doors and siddhas and such don't really make sense. I apologize for my ignorance.

Where is That Door of Yours, and where is That Home, in which You sit and take care of all?

Rhetorically asks where the door is i.e. where is the door to get to God, and where is His home. Remember that Gurbani can be interpreted on many levels, but basically the door, I believe, refers to the tenth gate, anf the home refers to the human body. i.e. there is no use wandering about looking for God because He is inside of you and is accessed through teh tenth gate.

The Sound-current of the Naad vibrates there for You, and countless musicians play all sorts of instruments there for You.

Naad is the unstruck sound heard when one is advanced in their level of meditation.

Wind, water and fire sing of You. The Righteous Judge of Dharma sings at Your Door.

Dharma = way of life

The judge = Dharamrai

There are so many Ragas and musical harmonies to You; so many minstrels sing hymns of You.

Rags are musical measure that set the mood and tone of the shabad, thus giving an implied meaning.

...

The Siddhas in Samaadhi sing of You; the Saadhus sing of You in contemplation.

Siddhas are holy people, samaadhi is a meditative state where one is oblivious of the time passing, the surroundings they are in, and the things around them. Sadhus are are also holy people.

...

anything else?

From what I have learned, this is a description of all that is happening at the doorstep of Sackhkhand, the abode of God. (Now, I know the argument that erupts from this, God is omnipresent...but i'll leave that for now and talk in simple terms).

This is everything Guru Nanak Dev ji saw when he went to Sackhand upon entering the Beas River. Guruji then sang this above shabad in front of God. No metaphors are being used; all that is being stated is what is being seen.

Everything that Vaheguru creates has two forms, the sookham(subtle/hidden) and sathool(visible, the form we see). So, while some parts of God's creation look inanimate to us, like the sun, moon, mountains, air, water, fire, they have an animate form. This animate form is what sings the praises of God, which we obviously can’t hear happening.

This is how the seemingly inanimate objects being mentioned in the Shabad “sing” his praises. Not with the forms visible and known to us, but with the form that only God and other highly elevated souls can see.

The Shabad is praise of God. It has nothing to do with Beas or Sachkhand!

The message here is that everyone is below God.

The message here is that don't get stuck into worshipping religious people or kings or mythological entities such as Dharamraaj or chittarandgupt. Chittargupt were actually brothers and there is a story about them. Sikhs don't belive in chittar-gupt or dharamraaj. Deep understanding of Gurbani is needed. SGPC should get a committe together and make English translations that are very accurate according to Sikhi principles. However, SGPC is lazy and corrupt and doesn't care about anything so doesn't look like they will get anything done! They are always busy in politics trying to make RSS and Badal happy.
